Cisco VPN on Mac existing with Apani

Hello:
I recently installed Apani VPN ( a Mac client for Nortel Contivity connections that connects through a browser) on the same machine with my Cisco VPN. Now for my customers with Cisco VPN connections I fail to connect with this error:
51     11:12:50.183  09/16/2011  Sev=Critical/1          CVPND/0xC3400003
Function SocketApiBind() failed with an error code of 0xFFFFFFFF(ike-init-state.cpp:402)
52     11:12:50.183  09/16/2011  Sev=Critical/1          CVPND/0x43400012
Unable to bind to IKE port.  This could be because there is another VPN client installed or running.  Please disable or uninstall all VPN Clients other than the Cisco VPN Client.
Only problem is I cannot find this process in my Activity Monitor--I'm not sure what the process is. The is no application that I can see in my "Applications Folder".  I haven't been able to get help from Apani. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Cisco but no joy.
Any idea how I can get cisco taking over again? If I have to choose between the two it is more important to get CIsco working. I am running a Macbook with OS 10.6.8.
Thanks.

Apple's support section (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306256) says "How to enable Cisco VPN connections
You should use Cisco's VPN client software to establish a Cisco VPN connection via an AirPort Extreme base station. Note: In the Cisco VPN client preferences, make sure the "NAT-T" option is enabled.
Note: Some corporate firewall configurations may cause issues with the Cisco VPN software.
Please contact AppleCare support if you are unable to contact a Cisco VPN server via Cisco VPN client software and an AirPort Extreme base station.
I'm experiencing the same thing. DellLatitude D610. Netgear rangemax wireless PC card (WPN511). I can connect to the internet but I try to vpn into work I get half way through the connection process and get an error which states" Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I've spent 2 hours trying different settings. I really want to stick w/the apple product but will have to return it if I can't get it to work. I need cisco vpn via wintel for work.

After installing Lion, my cisco vpn no longer works. If I force boot in 32 bit mode it works fine, so appears to be a cisco client issue. Does anyone know if CISCO is working on  64bit client compatible with Lion?

Not sure this answer helps me or anyone else. My VPN connection no longer works in Lion. How do I re-set the parameters of my VPN connection to work in Lion?

    Hi all,
i just had time to to a network capture
The ip have been changed but btw :
    - 172.20.10.2 = A computer conntect to internet that will try to reach the vpn server behind the E4200
    - 77.56.226.107 = The internet valid ip address of the Linksys E4200 router.
So below is the  proof that GRE protocol is not forwarded/passing the router.

    Frames 32/34/36/37/38/39 : initialization of pp2p using port 1723
    Frame 43 : ACK of 39
Frames 40,52,67,80... Request send using protocol 47 GRE... and the server not responding as the router blocks them...

  • Cisco VPN client install fails with Error 1722 on Windows 7

    Hi,
I am having issues with laptops upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.
Prior to the upgrade they are running Cisco VPN Client 5.0.05.0290.  These laptops also have Juniper Network Connect 6.5 and Citrix web client installed.  The windows upgrade advisor made no recommendations regarding uninstalling / reinstalling these apps.
I have done an inplace upgade to Windows 7 (Windows Vista Enterprise 32bit to Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit) and after the install the Cisco client is not working.  Uninstalled the client (the uninstall was successful) then reinstalled and the installation fails at Installing Cisco Systems Virtual Adapter - error 1722 there was a problem with the windows installer package.
I have followed the steps for a manual uninstall of the Cisco client and then tried the install again - still not successful.  Interestingly (or not) the Juniper Network Connect also fails with the error The Network Connect Virtual adapter driver is not installed properly.  This also fails to reinstall after being removed.
I tried removing the VPN clients on another laptop and then running the upgrade but the same errors occured when reinstalling the VPN Client.  I have tried the Winfix and DNE patch from Citrix but these fail saying there is a corruption in the application.
On another laptop where only the Cisco VPN client was installed a reinstall was required after the upgrade, but it did install successfully.
On a clean image these applications all install fine, however I have a large number of laptops do upgrade and don't want to do a fresh install and settings migration on all of them.
What files / registry entrys are involved with the DNE adapter so I can manually clear it all out before reinstalling?
Anything else I can do to troubleshoot this issue?
    Cheers,
    James

You should be able to install the 64 bit version of the Cisco VPN software
    Latest version is vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe
You should download and run MCPR.exe first, to clean out any traces of McAfee products that conflict with Cisco VPN.
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
If there is a problem with vbscript registration on the system - there is a fixit tool from Microsoft for that:
    MicrosoftFixit50842.msi
(Using Shrew VPN is a possible workaround.)

  • Cisco VPN not working with Lion OSX 10.7

Cisco VPN Client Application did not launch after upgrading to Lion OSX v10.7.
I read https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192535 that suggested rebooting in with a 32bit kernal.
Hold down the '3' and the '2' keys while rebooting to reboot in 32bit mode.
I did this and now my existing Cisco VPN works fine.

Check this out to solve the Cisco ASA connection from OSX 10.7 Lion from rcarrito originally posted under this link:

Cisco VPN Client & OSX Lion
I have been successfully using the built in Mac OS X IPSec client on Lion 10.7.2 for a couple months now. I have no need for the Cisco IPSec client anymore and to boot into stupid 32-bit mode .
Not sure if the issues you guys are having but I followed this guide and it works perfectly. Most of my customers I only have a .pcf file for, which of course, I cannot use to figure out the groupname and password....until now...

I don't know if this will help with SonicWall but my problem for the ASA is solved.

  • CISCO VPN ERROR 51, NNNOOOOOOOOO

I am receiving the dreaded Error 51 when ever I install and try to launch the Cisco VPN Client.
This is on a brand new Mac Book Pro, so this software was never previously installed. Ive been trying to install the Cisco VPN Client version 280, but I've tried older versions too with the same Error 51 problem.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled via the Terminal window, restarted, tried multiple number of Terminal commands found online, nothing has worked. The odd thing, a co worker of mine with a similar set up was able to install the client just fine, so there's something up with my machine.
One other thing I've noticed, sometimes when I restart or uninstall the client via the Terminal, I get this error
/System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) requested architecture/executable not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
I checked my '/System/Library/' directory and I dont have this Extensions folder at all.
Can anyone help with this issue? For the love of God, this is day #3 with this issue and the whole IT department at my work is stumped.
    Thanks

You must have the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder or your computer wouldn't be able to boot.
I have read about problems with the Cisco software.  See the following:
Fix Cisco VPN in 10.6 [Simon Heimlicher] and HDC >> Cisco VPN for Mac OS X 10.6.  If neither of these is helpful then I suggest contacting Cisco tech support.

  • Tunneling using Cisco VPN Client 4.9

    Hello,
in recent times I used the Cisco VPN Client 4.7 with no problems:
    1. I installed the software
    2. I started "Internet Connect.app", created a VPN connection (PPTP) with no entries
    3. created a new network connection ("Tunnel to company"), with ETH and VPN (PPTP) enabled
    4. the ethernet interface points at the local router wich is connected to my ISP
    5. DHCP-Client-ID: our.company.de, DNS-Server: no entry, Domain-Names: our.company.de
    6. Proxies: our companies proxies
    7. the VPN (PPTP) interface is configuered as PPP, DNS-Server: our companies server IPs, Domain-Names: no entries, Proxy: no entries
    8. Starting the Cisco VPN Client I configuered an new session, connected, ok
As said, this was in the old days.
Now using Cisco VPN Client 4.9 on a MacBookPro (Intel) this works also with one exception:
I can establish a network connection (ping, smb, AFP, intranet/HTTP) only using the companies fully qualified domain name, e.g.:
    1. ping server1: unable to resolve name
    2. ping server1.our.company.de: works as exspected
I am using Cisco VPN Client 4.9.00 (0050), Mac OS X 4.8 with all available updates.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Roland

    ...
trying the same (without the "Internet Config.app" / VPN PPTP) using VPN Tracker works fine. But I don´t want to spend Euro 79.-...

  • Mac Pro kernel Panic with Cisco VPN Client

After Having to rebuild my new Mac Pro 3 times I finally found that it was the Cisco VPN Client that was released for Intel in Feb. of this year that does not play nice with the new machines. Don't install or if it's too late boot into Safe Boot mode by holding your shift key during startup and then follow the instructions at the link below.

    Just a heads-up;
the new Cisco VPN Client has now been released and fixes this issue.

CSCsd51113 feature unity nonwindows set mtu vpnclient.ini field
CSCsd51126 unity mac ppp intel fails with mismatch log message 10.4
CSCsc56445 unity mac rebranding volume name voids rebranding files

  • Cisco VPN client crashes with Error 51 on Intel Mac Mini

I am in the process of migrating from XP to Tiger on a brand-new Mac Mini (Intel Duo). Now I am stuck:
I use v 4.8.00 of the Cisco VPN client supplied by my university's IT dept. to connect to the Campus intranet. I have been unable to succesfully use this software, as it crashes upon initializing with "Error 51: Cannot connect to the VPN subsystem." Re-installing the software does not change the state of affairs.
After some research, I used a hack found here (http://www.versiontracker.com/php/feedback/article.php?story=20060107011305622 and http://www.versiontracker.com/php/feedback/article.php?story=20060107011305622) to manually restart the VPN daemon. The Terminal result looks like this:
kld(): warning /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext/Contents/MacOS/CiscoVPN cputype (18, architecture ppc) does not match cputype (7 architecture i386) of objects files previously loaded (file not loaded)
kextload: kldlookup("_kmodinfo") failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext/Contents/MacOS/CiscoVPN
kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext
    load failed for extension /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext
(run kextload with -t for diagnostic output)
Not being fluent in Darwin, I can only interpret this to mean that the VPN client is incompatible with the Intel chip in the Mac mini... Is this correct? Is the only way for me to use VPN to wait for a 4.8.x version to be made available?
    Hopeful still,
    felixx

Also - the Mac VPN system will work with most Cisco networking devices. You can open up the PCF profile that your IT group wants you to use and figure out most of the questions Internet Connect will ask you to set up the VPN connection. For the rest, you have to ask the IT group or try some things and see what works...
    cheers,
    Mike

  • Cisco VPN client and mac mail

    Hi all,
I wonder if someone can be more helpful than my uni IT department who take a minimum of a week to get you an IP address...
My new uni uses Cisco VPN client for connection to the Wi-Fi network. It all works great apart from one (very annoying problem):-my e-mail accounts in mac mail don't seem to be able to connect via the VPN. I have had both an IMAP and a POP server e-mail account work automatically wherever I connect in the world for over a year now-so its not the way I've set up the accounts.
Is there any way to get mac mail to "see" the VPN connection. If I have to physically plug-in my mac this seems a tad ridiculous when it works in every coffee shop with free wi-fi.
My uni are not helpful as they want people to use either outlook or better still log-on to their e-mail using the web. I don't even want to use their e-mail-what is the point when I move jobs again in a year. What I do currently is use an IMAP account from my last job which I've set to forward to my "e-mail for life" from my undergrad uni. I basically only give out my life e-mail address and this also goes on all my papers.
If I can't access this easily and sort all my mail in all the folders I've created to filter out things like facebook etc. I'm wondering what the point of mac mail is.

Yeah, that stuff normally works for me. Unfortunately this is a situation where you have to use an external Cisco VPN client software, whether you like it or not. Its this horrible clunky thing (which at least half works I guess). So its only like normal wi-fi in terms of selecting the network, then you have to open up this application and put in your log-in etc. Most of the settings on this client seem locked, so there isn't much I can do to configure it.
I've just got to my (temporary) accommodation which doesn't have wi-fi or VPN (just ethernet) and my mail is working again-so it must be the VPN. Goodness knows how it works with an iPod touch (interested in getting one but kind of pointless if I spend most of my time at work and it doesn't work...)
    Thanks for your suggestions though!

  • Mac Lion and Cisco VPN client problems

I just installed Lion 10.7 on my iMac and can no longer use the downloaded Cisco VPN client to connect to Microsoft Remote Desktop and access the PC in my company's office. When I try to launch the VPN client I get Error 51. I used to be able to enter a command in the Terminal as a workaround to use the VPN client when that happened, but that no longer works. I have tried booting into 32-bit mode; doesn't work. I tried to use the Cisco client built into Lion using settings provided by my company. When I try to connect I get the following message: "The negotiation with the VPN server failed. Verify the server address and try reconnecting."
I have searched the web looking for a solution. My company's tech department is stumped; the Apple Geniuses haven't been able to help. Does anyone have any ideas how I can use either the downloaded Cisco VPN client or the client built into Lion?
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

Here is the link which you can use to configure the inbuilt VPN client in MAC Lion.
    http://glazenbakje.wordpress.com/2011/07/28/how-to-create-a-cisco-vpn-connection-in-apple-mac-os-x-lion/
Make sure you configure the attributes correctly.
Secondly the inbuilt VPN client code of Lion is made in collaboration with Cisco so there will not be any issues of compatibility.

  • Back To My Mac and Cisco VPN client

I've used back to my mac for a while and love it. Recently I've had to start using the Cisco VPN client and every time I use it it says "Because Back to My Mac is turned on, your VPN connection cannot be established with the server. Would you like to turn off Back to My Mac?". Is there any way to run them both without having to keep starting and stopping back to my mac?

    I too have this issue.
Every time I have to connect via VPN, I have to disable my Back to My Mac.

    Any solution?

  • Mac OS 10.5 - Cisco VPN - Screensaver Security Password Crash

    Hi
I have a client who has a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.6 and uses the Cisco VPN client version 4.9.01 (0100) so that he can work remotely from home. The problem he is experiencing is when he VPN'd into his office network and leaves his computer unattended for enough time for his screen saver to cut and then returns to the computer and it prompts him for his account password to exit the screen saver it crashes. This is not the case if he does not have VPN connection.
I have checked with him which screen saver as some, like the Apple RSS Visualizer, require a valid internet connection to download RSS feeds and I know that the Cisco VPN Client when actively connected to a Cisco router can cannibalise ones network connection thus not allowing the download of RSS feed. Anyway this is not the case as he uses Apple Flurry screensaver.
Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anton

The problem with that is that my client does Cinema 4D work and leaves his system unattended when his drawing are rendering and has password to stop his pesky children causing problems. Sleep would cause the system to hibernate and spin the hard disk down which would pause any rendering from processing in the background.

Latest cisco vpn client does not work with newest mac os 10.5. I have it installed and i get a error 51 unable to communicate with the vpn subsystem. Please fix this asap cisco.

I have heard reports that if you performed an upgrade to 10.5, you may need to reinstall the latest VPN client for it to work. It needs to reinstall some files that the upgrades process may have removed.
I performed a clean install of 10.5 and have been using the VPN client without any issues at all.

  • Cisco VPN 4.7 and Intel Mac

Has anyone been able to get the Cisco VPN 4.7 or 4.8 work with the Intel version of Mac OS X 10.4.4? It gives an error that the subsystem is not running.

Very true - but I am actually using 4.9.0030 beta (from TAC), and have been for about a week now - and it indeed works (on Intel Mac, and a PowerMac G5 Dual).
There is some issue with profiles (imported profile files as well as old ones / certs), but all in all, it does function.
I do remember the long road to a REALLY functioning Tiger client, and it APPEARS Cisco are going to be a bit better off with this one
Having said that, I DO agree with your statement nonetheless I don't work for them !!!
