Cleaning a moth turd off of my iMac 24" Screen

So, moments ago I'm sitting here happily surfing the web and a moth is attracted to my brand new 24" iMac screen and leaves his calling card. A wet dot of poop the size of the letter "o", maybe a tad smaller. So I gently wipe it with a soft cloth and now there is a nice 1 inch smear, dead center on my screen that the second wipe had zero impact on.
DOH!

You should be able to just shut your machine down and then wipe your screen w/ a damp cloth, followed by a gentle buff w/ a soft cloth.

  • What is best to wash/clean iMac glass screen cover?

I have used Glass Cleaner to clean smudges/finger prints off my iMac glass screen cover.  I keep getting swipe marks instead of a sparkeling clean screen.  Anybody have a better product?

Water only applied to a damp cloth per your owner's manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1662/en_US/imac_late2013_ipig.pdf
(I use a micro-fiber cloth slightly dampened with water on my iMac with streak-free results)

Sorry am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to all this. I just need to have them stored someplace and accessible to play when I need to. Thanks for your help.

    Hello DJJOC,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To start troubleshooting this issue where your iMac's screen will not illuminate, please reset your SMC by following the information outlined below.
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: For Intel-based Xserve computers that are not responding, you can shut down locally, or by using remote commands, or by pressing and holding the power button for five seconds.

  • IF I DON'T HAVE A FIND MY PHONE APP ON AN UNUSED WORKING IPHONE HOW CAN I WIPE IT CLEAN OR SHUT IT OFF OR TRACK IT DOWN?

If i had my old iphone 3G stolen from me all it's used for is for music (ipod) and I don't have a passcode on it or a Find my phone app on it is there a way for me to wipe it clean or turn it off completely or maybe even track it down? please help me if possible i have important pics and infos on that old phone that i need deleted.

According to the information you have provided, based on my knowledge, it seems the only option would be to trace back where the iPhone had been.
Do you know where it was stolen? Have you contacted the police?
Unfortunately, if you haven't set up Find My iPhone, obviously, the service will be of no use.
P.S. When asking question, please type without CAPS, because that often gives a bad 'image' on the writer. I understand the urgency, however typing like that is not neccessary.

Before taking it in to the Apple Store... Try this...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • Help: New MBP Retina, need content off mid 2011 iMac!

    Hey everyone,
I have got my new Macbook Pro Retina up and running, but I need to get some things off of my iMac (mid 2011 model).
The retina display MacBook Pro has no firewire socket or ethernet.
Doing this wirelessly would be ideal.
I am just looking for my iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes to be replicated.
Your advice will be much appreciated.
    Lee.

If you have a bootable clone of the 2011's drive, you can use that to migrate your stuff over. Wirelessly will work too but not fast and painlessly.
    More info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
Note that there are two migration scenarios:
If you elect to migrate from another computer, Mac or PC, the first time you start up the new Mac, it will be done thru the Setup Assistant and will essentially copy over everything including the original user accounts and passwords.
If you do it afterwards by running Migration Assistant, incoming user accounts that are the same as those already on the new Mac will be renamed. This can lead to confusion and permission issues.

  • Cannot turn off airport on Imac and PowerBook

I cannot turn off airport on iMac 17" intel (late 2006) and G4 powerbook. One common thing is:
I got rid off .plist files (airport related) on both machines prior to putting new AE in to mix. I set up AE and not only I cannot establish wireless on both machines I cannot turn airport on both as well. Old G4 iMac (3rd machine that was not altered) works.
What did I get rid off?
    iMac gives me this:
    AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.46.9)
Current Wireless Network: AirPort is currently turned off
While Network pref. and icon in menus says airport is on. (Same with powerbook)
    Any suggestions?
Just to ad to confusion. This is replacement AE. First one after firmware upgrade (7.3.2) started to misbehave (very weak signal, mostly). I did downgrade to 7.3.1 but after couple of days I went for factory one (firmware that is), and here I am.

…after waking both computers from sleep situation is reversed. Airport is off and I cannot turn it on. After restart I am back to Airport on (not able to connect, while showing networks to join) and not able to turn off.

  • Turn off messages from imac

I just downloaded the OS Mavericks onto my iMac.  Now all of my imessages on my iphone are also showing up on my iMac.  i do not want this.  My son may accidently see adult conversations.  How do I turn this off on my imac?

    Hi,
As Frank Says you can disable the iPhone Number in the iMessages settings on the Mac.
You can remove the Apple ID from the iPhone.
If you want a deeper reset than that so that the iPhone Number does not even show on the Mac's iMessages settings you can do this:-
    Access ~/Library/Preferences.
    Find the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist file.
Drag it to the Trash then restart Messages.
You will have to re-add the Apple ID.
At this point if you have not removed the Apple ID on the iPhone (or other device) then you will have to Refuse/Dismiss the pop ups that tell you what the iPhone is using.
You will receive periodic prompts on this from now on unless you remove the Apple ID from the iPhone.
If you want totally private messages on the iPhone you will need to use it with Number only.

  • There are to big "rings" appearing in the middle of my iMac 27" screen.

There are to big "rings" appearing in the middle of my iMac 27" screen. They are one visible when the screen is dark. Its very annoying. Does anybody know how i can get rid of these ring-shaped marks in the middle of my screen?

If the marks are on the glass rather than the actual screen, it's an easy job (if you are careful) to remove and clean the glass. Not sure of the implications on your warranty, if you're still covered.
Here's a short video. I've done it a few times on various Macs without problems. I'd turn the Mac off before doing it.

  • Strange Markings on iMac G5 Screen -

In the middle of my 2009 G5 iMac, there is a wriggly vertical track that looks like a worm trail.  It is on the interior of the screen, something I discovered by trying to clean it off.
Interestingly, when I take a screenshot, the image does not appear.  But as I post this quesstion, there the annoying, squiggly, ugly thing is, just off to the right of the center of the screen …
Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

If you are not comfortable removing the glass panel yourself for cleaning...?
see > Aluminium iMac - removing and cleaning glass and LCD - YouTube
and/or > Cleaning screen of Intel iMac - YouTube
Then you will need to take it to your local Apple Store or AASP for cleaning.
see > Apple - Find Locations
FWIW, the last G5 was made in 2005, a 2009 is an Intel iMac.
