            Connection conexion = DriverManager.getConnection (
                "jdbc:mysql://localhost/adpostbd","adpost", "");
             PreparedStatement s = conexion.prepareStatement("select cod_depto from depto where edificio_cod_edificio= ?");
            s.setString(1, String.valueOf(jComboBox1.getSelectedItem()));

        }thx for the help.

i did something simular in one of my previous programs...
provided you have an action listener on your comboBoxes
public void ActionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
if(e.getSource == Jcombobox1)
Jcombobox2.removeAllItems();
for(int i = 0; i < (Arraylist listOfObjects = Jcombobox1.getObjects()).size()/*whatever objects associate with jcombobox1*/; i++)
Jcombobox1.add(listOfObjects.get(i));
}

  • How to make JComboBoxes transparent

    For some reason "setOpaque(false)" doesn't seem to work for JComboBoxes. I'm using java 1.4
    Below is some code. If you compile and run it you should get a window with a button and a combo box, the button is transparent, the combo box is not.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.geom.Area;
    * test transparent swing components
    class TransTest
    public static void main(String args[])
         JFrame theFrame = new JFrame("transparency test");
         JComponent contentPane = new JComponent()
              public void paint(Graphics g)
              Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D)g;
              Area s = new Area((Shape)new Rectangle(0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight()));
              g2.setPaint(new GradientPaint(0f, 0f, Color.GRAY, 150f, 100f, Color.WHITE, true));
              g2.fill(s);
              super.paintChildren(g);
         theFrame.setContentPane(contentPane);
         theFrame.setDefaultCloseOperation(javax.swing.WindowConstants.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
         JButton button = new JButton("button");
         button.setOpaque(false);          // this works
         JComboBox combo = new JComboBox();
         combo.addItem("combo");
         combo.setOpaque(false);               // this doesn't seem to work
         JPanel pnl = new JPanel();
         pnl.setOpaque(false);
         pnl.add(button);
         pnl.add(combo);
         contentPane.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
         contentPane.add(pnl, BorderLayout.CENTER);
         theFrame.pack();
         theFrame.setVisible(true);

    Try setOpaque(true) and setBackground(new Color(r,g,b,a)) where r, g and b are respectively the values of red, green and blue and a the alpha value (0 means totaly transparent, 255 totaly opaque). Sometimes a component should be opaque with a transparent background to make the transcparency works.
    But I have to ask you a question : have you bugs with the display ? Indeed, I made an app that doesn't use a gradient paint like you, but the JFrame have a ContentPane that display a picture. I made every JComponent transparent in order to see the background picture. The display is very dirty with JButton, JTextArea, JTextField and JList. Indeed, when moving cursor over JButton, the JButton displays the top lecft corner of the JFrame instead of the underlaying part of the picture as expected with transparency. With JTextField and JTextArea, when typing text the same problem occured. With JList, the problem appear when scrolling. only a full update(Graphics g) can clean the display, that is I must call it with every mouseMoved, mouseClicked, etc. events. The problem appears only with JDK > 1.2.2 (JDK1.3 and later)

  • JComboBox fires an event only after changed selection?!

    I have added a JComboBox to my application, combined with an ActionListener which is added to the combobox just after initialization. It works fine, but there is one problem left:
    Generally, an event for the ActionListener is initially only fired by a combobox, if the user selects a different item than the last selected one. But I need an event that is fired by the combobox each time an item will be selected, even if it is the same item as the last selected one.
    I tried to use an ItemChangeListener, but it gave no success (and sense), it fires an event each time the user wants to select an item from the combobox' item list, that is no solution.
    Best way to solve this problem? I thought about a adding a MouseListener, but that might be the longest way. There seems to be no special method in JComboBox class to set this desired property?
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
    thank you for your answer so far. Well, here is a trivial source code with the problem that still exists (see also my text at the end of this post). This one has been tested using Java 2 SDK V1.4, even using the newest SDK version did not change anything on the behaviour:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.Container;
    import java.awt.FlowLayout;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    * JComboBox-Test: using Java 2 SDK V1.4, ActionEvent is only fired by combobox, if
    * a different item than the previous one is selected from combobox;
    public class Forum3 extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
        String[] CB_ITEMS = {
            "item 1",
            "item 2",
            "item 3",
        public Forum3 () {
            super();
            setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            setLayout(new FlowLayout());
            JComboBox cb = new JComboBox(CB_ITEMS);
            cb.addActionListener(this);
            getContentPane().add(cb);
        public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent e) {
            System.out.println("action!");
        public static void main (String[] argv) {
            Forum3 test = new Forum3();
            test.setSize(300,200);
            test.setVisible(true);
    }If you start this program (I am also using Windows XP), you see the JFrame window including the JComboBox. "item 1" is selected by default. If you click again on "item 1", no event will be fired. An event will be fired only, if you choose "item 2" or "item 3". You can try this with any other of the given items. An event will be only fired, if you choose a different item than the last one.
    What I need, is a routine that fires an event each time any item is selected!
    I would be grateful for a helpful hint, how to solve this in a "clean" way :-)

  • Disabled foreground color in JComboBox

    what's the correct way to set the disabled foreground color of a jcombobox? i don't want to set the disabled color for the entire ui to the same color, but for one jcombobox specifically. i searched the web and found many posts with the same question, but no real solution. this one has been giving me nightmares and i thought i'd share what i've found. the solution seems to be quite simple: wrap the combobox label in a panel. that way the panel gets the disabled colors, but the coloring of the label of the combobox remains. here's the solution in short in case others need it:
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Component;
    import java.awt.FlowLayout;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;

    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JComboBox;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    import javax.swing.JList;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.ListCellRenderer;
    public class MyComboBox extends JComboBox {

        frame.getContentPane().setLayout( new FlowLayout());

    i thought i'd share what i've found. the solution seems to be quite simple: wrap the combobox label in a panel.Brilliant! I'm sure this will be useful to others who find this solution here.
    Your code does have some unnecessary overheads though, like constructing a new JPanel in every call to getListCellRendererComponent, and holding a separate renderer as a field. I've attempted to clean it up for brevity and efficiency.import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Component;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import javax.swing.DefaultListCellRenderer;
    import javax.swing.JCheckBox;
    import javax.swing.JComboBox;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JList;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
    public class DisabledForegroundListCellRenderer extends DefaultListCellRenderer {
      private final JPanel wrapper = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
      public DisabledForegroundListCellRenderer() {
        wrapper.add(this);
      @Override
      public Component getListCellRendererComponent(JList list, Object value,
              int index, boolean isSelected, boolean cellHasFocus) {
        super.getListCellRendererComponent(list, value,
                index, isSelected, cellHasFocus);
        return wrapper;
      // Test rig
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
          @Override
          public void run() {
            new DisabledForegroundListCellRenderer().makeUI();
      public void makeUI() {
        String[] data = {"One", "Two", "Three"};
        final JComboBox combo = new JComboBox(data);
        combo.setRenderer(new DisabledForegroundListCellRenderer());
        final JCheckBox check = new JCheckBox("Combo enabled");
        check.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
          @Override
          public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            boolean selected = check.isSelected();
            combo.setForeground(selected ? Color.BLUE : Color.RED);
            combo.setEnabled(selected);
        check.doClick();
        JFrame frame = new JFrame();
        frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
        frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
        frame.add(check, BorderLayout.NORTH);
        frame.add(combo, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
        frame.pack();
        frame.setVisible(true);
    }I've also changed the class name, as to me "ColorCellRenderer" would rather imply something that renders either the foreground or the background (or both) on the basis of the value parameter.
    if anyone knows a way to remove the dropdown button of a disabled combobox without leaving a blank space when you simply hide the buttonThat would require a custom UI delegate, not a custom renderer. And really, I wouldn't bother -- I would just use a JComboBox and a disabled (or maybe uneditable) JTextField, held in a CardLayout, and swap them instead of disabling the combo.
    Shall take a look at how the combo UIs reserve space for the button though :)
    luck, db
    Edited by: DarrylBurke -- changed wrapper to private final, it shouldn't be static

  • JSF selectOneChoice  VS.  Swing JComboBox

    I have been so impressed with how clean it is using a JSF selectOneChoice with a selectItem and selectItems.
    Using selectItem.itemValue and selectItem.itemLabel is intuitive, and fills a very common need.
    I'm wondering if there is a similar type of component I can use with a JComboBox. It seems that a LOV binding needs a target data collection (and iterator); but I simply want a JComboBox to display labels and manage values, independent from an iterator.
    Any suggestions are very much appreciated!!!

    Well I would just like to update this thread as more than a year has passed since I began working on ADF BC & Faces. Coming from a SWING background, I've learned quite a lot about web development. For starters, it’s not as easy as "Drag and Drop" and RAD like some demo videos or evangelical pitches makes it out to be. There is a steep learning curve (about half year with daily interaction with JDeveloper) to get comfortable with this technology. Personally speaking, a firm understanding of page definition bindings was the hardest to grasp, but then again maybe I’m just a bit slow. Compared to SWING or desktop UI development, the richness of ADF Faces UI is limited to boundaries of the web browser.
    <br>
    However, within the last month, our team has made great strides in taking the first step in launching a ported module our internal system (legacy Oracle Forms used by hundreds of hospital employees). Our Dynamic JDBC authentication piece was the keystone for our first module (a modified version from Steve’s infamous “not yet documented samples”). Trying to take full advantage of this technology, we also have created reusable pages and BC components for CRUD operations.
    <br>
    There is still plenty of work to be done as we are now struggling with team development (difficult due to multiple file modifications within JDev’s). We are also eagerly awaiting several rich UI in the next release of ADF Faces. Overall, the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to appear and I hope the Oracle ADF team and everyone on this forum continues to actively contribute to the growth of this community.
    <br>
    Here are a couple of screen shots of our app if you are interested.

  • JTextField input check (errorDialog if invalid) & JComboBox Focus

    I have a JTextfield which does an input check when the JTextField focus listener's focusLost method is called.
    If I loose focus by clicking in on a JComboBox. The check gets done ok and focus is returned appropriately to the JTextField without any problems.
    But if I try to show an errorDialog when the input is incorrect, the focus is returned to the JTextField without any problems, but the JComboBox remains highlighted as though it is still selected!
    I am using sdk 1.4... on a linux box. does anyone know why this happens? and can anyone provide a clean solution to this?
    Thanx,
    Diego Paloschi.

    Hello Kleopatra,
    Here's a little demo:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class Debug extends JPanel
    private JTextField t1;
    private JComboBox c1;
    private T1Verifier t1Verifier;
    public void init()
         t1 = new JTextField("20", 10);
         t1.setInputVerifier(new T1Verifier(this));
         String[] s = {"v1","v2","v3"};
         c1 = new JComboBox(s);
         add(t1);
         add(c1);
    public static void main(String s[])
         Debug d = new Debug();
         d.init();
         JFrame f = new JFrame("Debug");
         f.getContentPane().add(d);
         f.setSize(300,300);
         f.setVisible(true);
    class T1Verifier extends InputVerifier
    private Debug debug;
    public T1Verifier(Debug debug)
         this.debug = debug;
    public boolean verify(JComponent input)
         JTextField tf = (JTextField) input;
         float value = Float.parseFloat(tf.getText());
         boolean inRange = (value >= 0) && ( value <= 10);
         return inRange;
    public boolean shouldYieldFocus(JComponent input)
         boolean valid = super.shouldYieldFocus(input);
         JTextField tf = (JTextField) input;
         if ( !valid ) {
         tf.requestFocus();
         JOptionPane d = new JOptionPane();
         d.showMessageDialog(debug, "Out Of Range.", "ERROR" , JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
         return valid;
    Even if u comment out the JOptionPane and just make the inputverifier return control to the textfield it still doesn't work! What am I missing? Or how would u doi it?

  • I tried to install latest OS update. Recd error installing. IT tried to load the upgrade in Safe Mode. Now system will not boot up. IT says I have to do a clean install which loses all data.

    After receiving an error when I try to install the latest update of OS-X, I took my laptop to oour schools IT dept. They tried to run the update in safe mode and then they got an error saying the system could not find the hard drive. Now they want to run a clean install which loses 1000's of docs and pictures. I have Block I exams in med school next Monday and all of my notes and slides are on that hard drive.
    The IT dept took the hard drive out and tried to back it up and they said they other computer could not connect or find my hard drive.
    Major panic....
    I have Norton antivirus and have never found any viruses on the system. I also have a program called ExamSoft which some other students here have noted they had similar crashes. Not sure if that is the issue...

    Several take home messages here:
    always back up before you update.
    always back up anything you don't want to lose. Kind of like flossing. Only floss the teeth you don't want to lose.
    Norton is very, very bad software, and you should get rid of it.
    You don't need antivirus software on your mac. Antivirus software on macs causes more trouble than it is worth.
    Your hard drive may be failing and thus may not be salvageable.
    You could try booting into the recovery partition and seeing if you can repair your hard drive.
    If that doesn't work, then there is a small chance that a third party utility (like Disk Warrior or TechTool) might be able to fix your drive (if it is not failing).
    If that doesn't work, you may be able to send your drive and a lot of cash to a drive recovery service and see if they can get your files off it.
    In the mean time, get notes and slides from a (smart) friend.

  • Hi Apple support, my name is Derek Turner and I have been hacked through a friend's email account and I wish to know if 1. I can clean my email list of names and account with software and 2. How is it possible to delete emails that are still coming back

    Hi! My name is Derek Turner and I have been hacked through a friend's email message to me which I opened unsuspecting any danger.  Initially, he sent me an 'attention' or warning email with a link which I tried to open but it could not be opened, so I left it not knowing what it was all about at the time.  Later, I received another email from him (probably the hacker) and opened a 'not very pleasant' web site.  It did not twig with me at the time as I am a bit new to this type of thing but when I mentioned it to my wife she immediately said that I had been 'hacked'.  By this time it was too late, and it infected all my email addresses!  I would be grateful if you may know if there is software that I can use to clean up my email account and if there is anything for iPad minis that can prevent this happening in future? (Malware, Firewall?).  I am also getting emails back that relate to the hacker and I cannot 'delete' them from my iPad, only on my PC!  Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your time regarding this matter,
    Derek Turner,( a very new iPad mini user!)

    Hi,
    I don't think that can be solved by any advice the regular posters could post here.
    I would go back to Apple and explain the situation (again).
    I would also consider closing the account (Apple rarely seem to do this as accounts are never deleted but just closed).
    I understand this may cause issues for things purchased in iTunes and the App Store which my include Restoring the OS at some point.

  • How to clean line items

    Hi,
    This is in 11.5.10.2.
    For Balance Sheet review/clean up of GL Accounts, we are facing following Problems.
    When we query a particular GL account the number of lines fetches are more than 6 lakhs line items due to which we are not able to extract complete dump .
    The data Extracted is not getting classified into open and cleared items (Clearing) at GL level and therefore the data line items are enormous. Can you suggest something in this regard as to how to proceed further? IF you can share the methodology being adopted by any of you, it will be a great help.
    Thanks

    Hello.
    Can you please try the following query? I'm not sure were are you keeping the data that indicates that the lines are not adjusted so i included the JGZZ_RECON_STATUS field but you can adjust the query to your needs.
    SELECT l.effective_date,
    h.je_source,
    h.je_category,
    l.description,
    nvl(sum(l.accounted_dr),0),
    nvl(sum(l.accounted_cr),0),
    l.jgzz_recon_status
    FROM gl_je_lines l,
    gl_je_headers h
    WHERE l.je_header_id = h.je_header_id
    AND l.set_of_books_id = <your set_of_books_id>
    AND l.effective_date >= '1-jul-09'
    AND l.effective_date <= '2-jul-09'
    GROUP BY l.effective_date,

  • How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer?

    How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer? Will the leopard dvd run out of installations and not let you install anymore?

    Hi colman Prez;
    Now that the funny comments have been made, I have a serious question and that why are you worry about reinstalling Leopard with an Erase & Install which is what I take that you mean when you say clean install. In actually fact there is no such thing in OS X as a clean install.
    I am curious because in all the years I have used OS X, I have yet to do an Erase & Install yet.
    I know with Windows that they suggest reformatting and reinstalling at the drop of a hat but that isn't true with OS X.

  • I've tried to eliminate system errors by performing a clean install of ML. What's the best way to set up my iMac for a singlet user?

    One of my main goals is to be able to run a Windows application on my iMac, purchased in July, 2012, with the Intel 2.5Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive. At first I installed Boot Camp and then Win 7, then the application I need to run, and I don't recall having problems. But I tired of the required reboot each time and got greedy and needy - so I installed VMWare Fusion, only to be told that the W7 software I use won't work with Fusion, but it will with Parallels! So, I was able to get Parallels at a discount (because I had Fusion), and decided I would import Boot Camp into Parallels.
    Then the problems began. I suspect I did something I shouldn't have during this process, but to shorten the story I did a clean install of ML, set up iCloud, and monitored Console for problems. And problems there were - lots of them, and they all seemed to reference iCloud in some way. Since I have the ML installer on a thumb drive I thought I'd see what happened if I did another clean install, but this time I'd ignore iCould altogether (yes, I have everything backed up to mypcback.com) and proceeded. As before, the errors streamed down Console's face as if it were my own. I've run OnyX, which seemed to help, but many of the issues persist. I'm at a loss as how to proceed other than invoke Apple Support, which, BTW, is not covered under Warranty.
    I need to have a stable ML platform before I start using W7 and refuse to believe that the OSX is "just buggy." Can someone help. I have no other iDevices that need to be synced, and really don't see the need to set up iCloud. Noone else than I use the iMac. It should be pretty simple to create a stable OSX so I can go where I need to go. I realize 4GB is not a lot of memory and will look into that. For the moment, I can stip down Win 7, and OSX for that matter, to free up memory. I didn't want to included a bunch of log files, but I will if someone thinks that it would be helpful.
    The follow are the latest entries into my system log file, after I lost connection to the internet, and then regained connection after rebooting my cable modem:

    This DNS change is only the lastest manifestation of what seems like an endless list. Can anybody give me some direction before I have to pay Apple to fix what I think they broke themselvesa?!?  BTW, I am not a tech. Thanking everyone who read this and especially to anyone who can help.

    Linc, thanks for the tips. I knew you'd have a good method. I asked for it because I have learned of some of the myths about OSX and it's need (or lack thereof) to be scrubbed, rinsed, and blown dry; suckering folks into buying all manner of utilities to keep your Mac spiffy at all times, when in fact it rarely needs any intervention at all because of its Unix background. In fact, I rarely shut mine down and I've learned that the system is actually designed to be left running under most circumstances.
    To keep your data secure the three most important things to know is backup, backup, backup. I use a third-party, cloud-based back-up system. It can automatically make backups every hour if that's what I want and I can supplement that anytime by simply dropping a file into the application's desktop interface.
    Since I last posted my Mac has been running smoothly and I've been able to install Parallels and Windows 7, as well as the VantagePoint software I mentioned. Though it crashed once this morning and I submit one line from the log file:
    12/20/12 10:31:00.639 AM appleeventsd[54]: BUG in libdispatch: 12C60 - 1510 - 0x4
    After a reboot, log entries spewed all manner of troubling messages, from those that are osascript-related to broken forks, etc. but as far as I know there were no actual crash logs generated until this afternoon, one being just a few minutes ago. Linc, would you be so kind to take a look and tell me if there's something I need to do?

  • Lenovo U310: Clean Windows 7 Installation Guide (including Rapid Start and Caching)

    Hi there,
    this is the first time that I am writing such a guide/tutorial/whatever you may call it – there are probably better ones, but though not being a total computer noob, it took me almost one week to get this pretty (now again) little beast running again. So hopefully this helps some others to avoid such stupid downtimes.
    A brief overview on what has happened to my original win 7 Home Premium:
    As some may know, this laptop is very well usable as a “Hackintosh” called Macbook clone. So that’s what I did. It turned out to be nice, but I wanted to go back to Windows after a while, using a clean W7 Pro installation to start over. Actually an easy task, format all drives, install Windows, be happy. Just as I had been doing this for years. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a real challenge. First, I couldn’t “see” my drives during installation (and thus not install), then I got random errors during installation aborting it at different points and finally rapid start and caching didn’t work. Every time I tried to activate them (after Win installation), it crashed my PC. I even found an (official Lenovo!) guide stating to install W7 on the SSD, which worked, but sucks due to space limitations. Oh and another very nice thing: The SSD showed up during WIN installation (but not the classical hard drive) stating it was about 60 GB. So as you can see, I have had a lot of different tries and errors. Why I didn’t use Lenovo Easy Recover? As said before, I erased all partitions…
    Before we start: If you have a good Windows running on the Laptop, do yourself a favor and disconnect the RAID 0 disks using the Intel Rapid Storage Application before(!!!) proceeding. It will make things much easier. And don’t forget to get all you data on an external drive or something.
    Ok, now let’s start.
    1.)    Prepare a USB Stick with the following driver
             http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=21730 (choose f6flpy-x64.zip If you’re running a
             64-bit system (standard nowadays), take f6flpy-x86.zip if it is a 32-bit Windows, just download and copy them
             into the stick’s root directory) and plug this stick in one of the left side USB ports.
    2.)    You’ll need Win 7 on either a DVD (plus external drive, for sure) or (bootable) USB stick
    3.)    Connect your drive/stick (with W7) to the right side USB port.
    4.)    Switch the computer on, immediately hit FN and F2. That will open the BIOS.
    5.)    In the BIOS, navigate to the very right section (“save and exit”) and navigate the cursor to “load setup defaults”.
             Hit enter to approve.
    6.)    After that, go to the “boot” tab and disable UEFI-boot.
    7.)    Next, go one more tab to the left and set the controller setting to RAID (NOT AHCI or Compatible!!!).
    8.)    Navigate the cursor down to “Intel Rapid Start” and hit enter. A submenu will pop up-
    9.)    Disable the first entry in that window, that will make the rest be disabled as well.
    10.) Navigate to the very right tab, this time hit save and exit.
    11.) The PC restarts.
    12.) Immediately hit FN and F12 to open the boot selection menu. Select to boot from your W7 DVD drive or USB
            stick.
    13.) Click yourself through the whole process of installing Windows 7 until the page comes up where you will have
            to select where to install it.
    14.) Click on “load drivers” and after a few seconds your downloaded driver should be there. Click ok to use them.
            Please do this step even if you can see your drives (SSD Disk 0, 32 GB and HDD Disk 1, 465(<-?) GB) as you
            would expect them – otherwise you’re very likely to get an error during the install process.
    15.) Now erase all partitions on both drives and select the HDD as the drive to install W7 to – NOT THE SSD!!!!!
            Seriously, don’t choose the SSD.
    16.) Windows will probably say that some extra partitions are necessary and so on, click ok and install Windows.
    17.) After the installation has finished and you see your Desktop, I suggest you to proceed with the next steps in the
            following order to see as early as possible if you are on the right way.
    18.) Install the Chipset driver, restart.
    19.) Install the Intel Rapid Storage “driver” and check the box where it asks to additionally install the control center.
            Reboot.
    20.) Go into BIOS (FN and F2) and enable Intel Rapid Start (the one you disabled in Step 8 and 9)
    21.) Boot into Windows.
    22.) Click on the Windows button, type cmd and right klick on the cmd.exe, select to run it as Admin.
    23.) Now you’ll create a hibernation partition on the SSD. (which by now should be completely empty as we’ve
            deleted all partitions in step 15)
    24.) In the command prompt that we have just opened, type: (without quotas, for sure)
    “diskpart” and hit the enter button
    “list disk” and hit the enter button
    Now you should see your ssd as disk 0 and your hdd as disk 1
    If your ssd is disk 0 (that would be standard), write “select disk 0”, otherwise write: “select disk 1”, and hit the enter button.
    Now write “create partition primary size=4096” and hit enter again. [if you have 4GB of ram, type 4096, if you have 8 GB of ram, use 8192]
    Now write “detail disk” and hit enter to see the volume number behind the volume that we have just created (it is 4 GB or 8 respectively, should be easy to find), in my case that was “2”
    Now type “select volume 2” if your 4 or 8 GB volume has number 2 as well, otherwise use the number you found out in step f. Hit enter.
    Finally, type: “set id=84 override” and hit enter for one last time.
    It should now say back that the id has been set successfully.
    Exit the command prompt. (close)
    25.) Reboot
    26.) Install the Rapid Start driver. Reboot.
    27.) Open the Intel Rapid Storage Application.
    28.) Click on accelerate and approve the settings. Two RAID’s will be created. Reboot.
    29.) Install the remaining drivers, have fun with Windows Update and that’s it!
    Good luck to all of you… And hey Lenovo - wouldn't that have been your job after all these posts showing your costumers in trouble? Just my two cents...
    If you want, you can now turn on UEFI-boot in BIOS.
    PS: If, after installing all drivers, you happen to see one unknown device in your device manager – this one belongs to Lenovo Connect Software that came with your Laptop. (Updates FB, Email etc when PC is in sleep mode) If you install Lenovo Connect it’s going to be fine, however, I would not recommend it as it is said to use a lot of energy and cause some other problems. So just live with it, your PC is totally fine without it.
    Kind regards from Shanghai

    Seriously guys, I can't use my 3 days old laptop. Some help would be mostly appreciated. At this point, the network connection issue doesn't show up anymore, it's just a blank screen after reboot. I reinstall windows and do it all over again just to achieve the same result.
    Now couple of things caught my attention: as I load the "6flpy-x64.zip" driver from step 14, I get a message saying I need to install signed drivers, because unsigned ones are likely to mess up the system.
    Secondly, I could not find any Rapid Storage Technology drivers for Windows 7 (particularly for U310 model), so I use the Windows 8 ones (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031455), which seems a silly thing, yet I know of no alternatives.
    Could it be any of these issues to cause my problem? Or smth else? Please help!

  • After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external back-up? Following Apple advice for use of Migration Assistant did not work creating similar issues leading to clean install.

    After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external hard drive?
    Following Apple advice I used Migration Assistant which crashed new system twice which is why I had to clean install Lion in the first place.
    Is there a sure way of doing it?
    I have only a few programs that I will have to install myself and that should not be a problem.
    I just want my data, music and photos back where I can use them.

    Time machine backups. I went to migration assistant a few hours ago and limited my selection to "users", no need for applications, settings and other files.  Stuff started moving over at a fast pace but has now seemed to stall.
    I will let it run overnight as there are lots of songs and photos as well as a few movies.
    If that does not work, then I will go into TM and try restore. I have restored some things in the past such a mail files and it has worked well.
    The Apple fellow at the store told me to go right into TM, he may have had a point. I'll get it eventually.
