Hey guys and gals I am looking at getting a macbook and selling my mini. Does anyone know the best and most secure way to delete any data saved on my machine?

Boot up the Mac Mini with the install disc that shipped with it when it was new. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Click the Erase tab, then click the Security Options button. Choose "Zero out data", or an even stronger overwriting algorithm if you want. When it's done, all the old data will be gone.

Getting ready to sell, help appreciated!
Hey guys, Im getting ready to sell my 8330 on Sprint and I want to make sure I get this thing completely wiped clean. I did the Wipe clean in the security settings, I removed all media, I just want to make sure when I sell it the next person wont be able to restore it at all. I want to take my Sim card out right? what is your question ?
1) it's easy to put the microSD card in. Just keep in mind that the metal part is like a door. Open the door by sliding it (there are little arrows on it), put the memory card in it, close the door, then slide to lock the door.
2) he memory card belongs to you, there are datas on it ; I don't know if they are erased by the wiping but I doubt it. I think you don't want the new owner to find pictures of you in your bathroom.

When I reboot my mac it automatically launches disk utilities. i have run the utility. all clear. but each time i reboot i get the disk utility. how do i override so i can have my hard drive back?

I accidentally cleared all my cookies. Now I get the Japanese home page and I want ONLY the English home page. I was on the home page at the time & I copied the address. It is still in my preferences section. but even when I paste it in, I still get the Japanese site. How do I get the English site back, and ensure that I never see the japanese site on my computer ever again?
Some sites automatically redirect you to a site in the local language.
There is usually a link on such websites choose a language or go to an international version that allows to chose the language.
You can click the link at the bottom of the local Google page (www.google.xx.xx) to go to the [http://www.gooogle.com/ncr "Google.com in English"] site.
You may need to hover that local Google page with the mouse to make extra content appear.
You can set the Google preferences on the [http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en Google Search settings] page (link at the top right).
Such settings are stored in a cookie on your computer that you need to allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions" or Tools > Page Info > Permissions.

When I get ready to burn my dvds they tend to be blurred. Even with pictures they do the same thing. When I preview them they blur while playing. But when I stop the video it becomes crystal clear.

Important that we define the issue as being related to just preview or to preview and export.
Project Preset....
When you start a new project, a project preset (project settings) need to be set by you or the project. The program
is designed to do that based on the properties of the first video file that you drag to the Timeline. Sometimes the program
does it right, sometimes not. If not, then you set the project preset manually assuring that the description of the project preset
matches your video properties for at least frame size, frame rate, etc. A major function of the project preset is to direct
the program to give you the correct space in the Edit area monitor for editing. If you select a project preset which includes
1920 x 1080 in its description, then the space in the Edit area monitor will reflect that 16:9 format.
If you or the program have set the correct project preset, then, when you drag your video to the Timeline for the first time, there
will be no colored line over its content. That means that you are getting the best possible preview in the monitor. Once you
edit that video, you will get an orange line over it. That is the program telling you that you no longer have the best possible preview
and to get it you Timeline render using the Render button above the Timeline. When that Timeline rendering is complete, the orange
line turns to green. That is the program telling you that you have the best possible preview which will be in effect until you edit the
file again. Then orange to green again.
Right now I would prefer to stay with trying to get your photos to an acceptable preview stage. No matter what the project preset,
these will need Timeline rendering after they are dragged to the Timeline. Several have reported that the use of the DSLR project preset results in sharper images pre and post export. I want to see if any of that can enhance your situation.
Please review and consider and then let me know if I am going in the right direction for the explanations. I will adjust
my instructions/suggestions accordingly.

Getting Ready to upgrade from 1.6 to 3.2 - any pointers?
We are getting ready to upgrade our servers and all our applications from 1.6.1.00.02 to either 3.1 or 3.2. I'm being asked to estimate the amount of time it will take for the remediation effort for all of our apps to make sure they are working properly in the new environment. (we have about 30 separate apps total I believe)
Does anyone have any pointers for me or things they've encountered when upgrading?

If you perform all the pre/post installation tasks, no remediation will be necessary. All the application should work right from the start.
Of course, now that options like AJAX, Interactive Reports and all the other enhancements of the new version will be available to you, it’s possible that you will want to enhance the functionalities of the current applications, but it’s your own choice.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong category for this..wasn't quite sure where to put it. I recently upgraded to an iPhone 4 from my 3G. I would like to sell my 3G but I wasn't quite sure what exactly I needed to do to get it ready to sell. I am with AT&T so its locked to them. I know on the phone there is a reset option to reset all settings on the phone. But do I leave my SIM in or take it out? Thanks for any info!
I have one more concern..I just reset the phone..I did erase all content and settings. I'll be removing the SIM before I sell it. When the phone is on all its showing is the connect to itunes picture. I'm assuming this is normal and whoever buys it will have to put their sim in or get a new one, then connect the phone to their computer to restore it to factory settings then transfer their stuff? I just want to make sure I won't be selling a brick to anybody.

I was attempting to backup my iphone 5 getting ready to update it to ios 7 and i accidentally restored it to the settings of my last phone which was an iphone 4s and it erased all my new pictures and info off my new phone and was wondering if anyone knows how i can get them back and restore it back like i has it? That means you have not a backup before accidentally restore your new iPhone 5.
So you should recover your new pictures and info with a third recovery tool.

Getting ready to Purchase 9.0 and...
Getting ready to purchase photoshop Elements 9.0 for a brand new mac pro laptop. I currently have version 6.0 on home pc and have over 20K photos and many major albums I dont want to lose. Currently my 6.0 backs up to external harddrive, but I also plan on purchasing a portable hard drive as well.
Question is after installing the new 9.0 on my mac laptop, what do I do next to get all my photos and albums?Thank you. I already use a external drive for back up
but I have to see if its mac compatible.....Im guesiing Ill be able to have them talk to each other...DH has different ext drive so it is a possibility too. Disappointing about losing features, but since I am currently using 6.0 maybe wont notice as much as I was excited to upgrade.

I understand that with my Photoshop/Lightroom 9.95 subscription I can activate two "machines". Do I have to include my iPad and Android cell phone, both of which have LR Mobile installed, or can I just count my desktop and the laptop I'm getting ready to purchase?

Still Using Tiger, Was getting Ready to Install Leopard..

I am still using Tiger but was getting ready to purchase Leopard, get the Missing Manual for Leopard and then Snow Leopard came out. So, I am getting a new MacBook Pro and that comes or is already installed with Snow Leopard. I was going to order one of David Pogue Manuals: Snow Leopard: The Missing Manual, or another one when someone changes, I think, from a Windowez-based OS to Snow Leopard OS X.
After thinking about it, I am wondering should I be getting both or for now just the Leopard Missing Manual rather then Snow Leopard: The Missing Manual. Is Snow Leopard like Leopard? Do you think I would be better off knowing or having a reference available for Leopard and trying to use The Leopard Manual initially rather then the snow Leopard. From what I have read, it sounds like Snow Leopard is almost like a major Leopard update, but I could be wrong.
I am not sure. I don't want to be (again) like the lost guy because I skipped a step. Also, there are a lot of manuals out on these topics but David P's is still not out (as far as I know). Would anybody recommend one of the other manuals that are out?

I am not sure I can accurately explain why I have not done these, but I did do something like this and I had the applecare lady on the phone so I knew she could help me if I messed up. It was something very similar but there were 2 options to repair (choose repair I should say). One said it was very short in length and the other was very long. I do not remember holding down the "C" key but I might have held down the command or some other key. Also I did not get the chance to go any further because I did not pick the short method, I chose the long one and I had to run. The applecare lady was actually not on the phone the whole time she gave me her extension to reach her if I needed to. I thought that was nice.
When I got the MBP about 3 years ago, I was going to do some fixing and I called applecare. They told me (and her is where I am not sure of my facts) that the TechTool should not be used for some reason. They told me to go to the apple support page, get a DVD that allows you to "write" and find the latest DeluxeTechTool (which apparently did not come with my machine because it had not been out yet). Once I copy the Tool from the site to the DVD, I then use that and insert it before I boot up and the rest I forget.
Do you know anything about this? I remember going to the area she said and seeing the ability to download and copy the newer DeluxeTechTool but I did not do it because at Best Buy I could not find anybody who knew the kind of DVD I would need nor what the ones they did have were for.
I do need this info. too because I have never backed up the machine. If I get a new one I want to get into the habit of backing up all the time, but I will have to learn to. If you know of where a good place is on the web that describes what the R, RW, C, CR, etc. mean for the DVDs and CDs. Even at Costco every worker in electronics did not know the answer to that question.
Some I would need to just burn or copy one thing onto either the CD or the DVD like that DeluxeTechTool and some I would want to keep copying or burning multiple times. And then even some I would like to be able to burn songs on them and transfer them to my iTunes and use that same CD or DVD for a movie to be able to do it over and over again. (Unless the quality goes down with each copy and overwrite I do.)
thanks for your help with the "repair procedure" but I could tell there are some things left out that I would not know what to do. I know now because of what I recently did by the "Apple self test" or whatever it was called I did. Questions I would have would be; when you say insert the original software DVD, I would need to know when do I insert and I think I have 2 CDs that came with the machine. Is there one that says "software" and the other says "hard drive?"
When you say C key are you talking about the key with only the "C" on it?
If I repair permissions all the time by using disk utility while the notebook is on, why dos it say it repaired so many (I forge the word it used) but it will then give what it repaired. It will say things like ro-ororro-o should have been ro-ro- . Things like that.
My final question is, somebody told me if I hold down the shift key and restart the computer and keep holding the shift key until the turning wheel stops and it says "Safe Mode." They told me doing this is the same as repairing the permissions by the more complex way. it is interesting because it does create some a long what appears to be either a file name or something like when you start disk utility just by using the utility.app on my dock, once you start that up and get ready to use it there are 2 long (I am not even sure what to call them) but one has Media in it and then the long list of letters and I think numbers and one just has the long list of letters/or numbers. It is here that I never understood which one is my hard drive and which one to select or repair the permissions. The example is terrible because the picture in the Help page shows a list that is about double the length of mine and is very hard to know which list to pick to be repaired. Also when they say pick your hard drive, I have no idea which one is my hard drive. It does not say "hard drive" next to the numeric code but I think one is left aligned and the other is aligned center or something like that. Also, one code I think has "Media" next to the numeric name.
