Clearing google history from searchbar on Safari

Yesterday my 85 year old neighbour rang in a panic thinking as he'd 'done something' and had **** on his ipad.  I went round to have a look and what I think he'd done was somehow visited an, er...'dodgy' site and bookmarked one of the pages however, it's not in his Safari bookmarks and I have cleared his history/cache many times over.  Whenever he presses the letter 'k' in his google search bar in Safari up pops 'Keisha rides a...' (you get the idea).  It seems to be either in his google bookmark or histsory (there is nothing else there, just this one link) I'm not sure which but I can't find any way to clear this as he doesn't have a google account so I can't clear it that way, and this is within Safari itself but obviously stored on the google servers.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
PS. I know he could use another search engine within Safari but he likes google and just wants to get rid of this pest.
PPS. I realise this has a 'I'm asking for a friend...' quality. LOL!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How do I clear search history from Safari

hhow do I clear. Search history from Safari

While you are on the Safari page click the open book icon on the top left. This is the bookmarks tab and you will see history listed. Click it and you have the options of removing recent or all your search history. If you want to clear out everything in Safari you can go to settings and click Safari and scroll down to clear history and website data. This clears out saved passwords and search history. Your saved bookmarks are not affected. Hope this helps.

  • Firefox will not display anything from Yahoo! correctly anymore. I get a skeleton text structure whenever I attempt to load any yahoo-based pages. However, they load in Opera fine. I've cleared all history from FF, with no results.

    Update March 7, 2011:
I've managed to get it to work via fiddling with Adblock's settings and what I had it set to block for me.
It will load any other page I go to fine, but Yahoo! is a no-go. I've tried clearing all history, closing FF and then restarting it, but that didn't work. I attempted to open Yahoo! in my backup Opera browser, and it worked fine. This is a little annoying.

Bring it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • How do I clear call history from a 6500A Printer?

I am upgrading to a new HP printer and want to donate my 6500A, but need to clear the call history first.  There was a tool to clear fax log, but how do I clear call history?  I checked after clearing the fax log, and all the phone numbers are still listed in the call history.
Maybe a better question is whether I can reset to factory defaults, clearing all settings/history?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

As it turned out, I contacted HP by phone and received excellent help.
There is a subset menu that can be found when you tap the 'back' icon... the icon on outside the lit display that does not show up until you tap it.  They had me find the appropriate page and do a 'partial reset'.  That brings the printer back to the page where the next time it is turned on, it will ask for all of the original set-up questions and all memory is deleted.  I have therefore been able to donate the machine to the local Women Helping Women organization with no concerns that I may also have donated a list of contacts!  Thanks to HP for the excellent customer service!

  • How do I clear Browsing History from CommandLine in Windows XP / Windows 7 / And Fedora

ok, Here is the reasoning and Scenario.
Thousands of PC's in a corporate environment, All using a web based application so cache's fill up fast.
Most of these are at remote offices with users not able to navigate back end controls, ie they only know how to use what they are shown.
Plus the browsers rarely if ever get closed so the empty on close option does not get a chance to work.
I can for IE users setup a script in scheduled tasks to clear the IE cache files, but I need FireFox options for Windows and Fedora, as we are transitioning to FireFox and in some cases even off the windows platform.

Maybe set browser.cache.check_doc_frequency to 1. That will cause it to check with the webserver each time to see if it is different from the cache. If that doesn't work, network.http.use-cache to false will ignore the cache, which will really hurt performance overall.
The better option is to have the web server set a no-cache (or very short expiration) header on the javascript files, or other server-side tweaking. Although, strictly speaking, it doesn't make sense that caching of javascript files is a problem unless you're doing development. In a production setting, there should be nothing wrong with caching of javascript. If the javascript is changing as the app runs, the web server should either be setting no-cache, or the javascript should be given a different name, perhaps appending a session number, etc.

  • Clearing command history from terminal

Is there a way to clear all the history of remembered commands in Terminal? I am referring to the "Run Command" box after "New Command" is selected showing the most recent command highlighted and a collection of recent commands in a "scroll down" underneath this. They wont delete permanently. Same ones reappear each time box is closed and "new command" is selected.
Is it any problem if I am unable to clear them? I believe it is normal for the computer to remember these recent commands. Thanks

Thanks for reply. First, I am referring to the history of remembered commands as shown in the drop down that appears after "new command" is selected and includes the last command entered, which is highlighted. Is this what you understood I was referring to?
Second, by "bash" do you mean the window that appears when terminal is opened? The window I am seeing is titled "terminal-tcsh-80X24" Lower down it says "welcome to Darwin" plus some other text. In an article "Mac OS X: How to change the Terminal shell" it is written that tcsh as default is meant for pre 10.4 systems and bash as default for 10.4 (which I am running). Does this mean I have the wrong default shell?
Third, I never use Terminal. I don't understand Unix and only got into this by accident (too long a story). I just want to make sure I haven't disturbed anything that will upset the computer. Since all of this is unfamiliar I would be grateful for an answer that includes more detail and explanation. Thanks for your patience.

  • Deleting google history on safari

I have a question about deleting my google history from the iPhone. I have cleared the browsing history etc in general settings page but when in google if you type the first letter it gives you options that you have searched before. How do you delete these??
    Any suggestions?

Ok, I know what you mean now, but don't know if there is a way to clear. Sounds the same as email addresses people complain about. If you hand type an email address when making an email it will remain there as well with no option to clear. The only way to clear (which odds are the same for the search) is to Restore your phone and don't load the backup but start fresh.

  • Hi I need to clear all history on my Imac ,everthing I look at website its all in documents.

HI,need some help in how to clear all history from my Imac,it seems to store all items I browse in documents ,when I check what to delete IM not sure as there could be something important.
    many thanks elaine

It's not clear what you want to remove.
If you intend Recent Items under the Apple menu, you can safely remove what's in there by choosing Clear Menu
You can do the same with Recent Folders in Go menu
That's only a history of the items and folders you used. You don't delete anything.

  • Why does why does Flash container services load into memory whenever I manually clear all history? It's always set to 'ask before activate'.

I am running Windows 7 SP-1 Ultimate and I always keep tabs on my processes with Task Manager. It gets very old always have to stop that process tree after manually clearing Firefox history from within the browser. Is this a glitch or intended? Thank you for any answer.

I am not certain but I believe it is likely to be due to the fact that FlashPlayer use will result in Localy Stored Objects and possibly other cached items and so the service will need to open in order to clear them.
I know a couple of years ago there was a glitch* in the process and plugin container opened unnecessarily multiple times and stayed open for the session
    * Bug 633427 - Clearing cookies launches instance of plugin-container for each plugin installed
As an aside you can choose not to save History or to use Private Browsing on those occasions when it is important not to save the History. There should be no need to clear History manually to improve Firefox performance.

  • Clearing recent history causes very long delay with message "a script has stopped responding"

When I take option to "Clear Recent History" from tools dropdown, there is a very long delay EVERY TIME, followed by this message:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:136
This happens even when Javascript has been disabled. This problem first appeared just after installing Firefox version 4.0
I can proceed to "Clear Recent History" only by again clicking that option after taking option to stop non responding script.

I have resolved the problem (for now) by uninstalling Firefox 4.0 and reinstalling Firefox 3.6. When 4.1 becomes available I will try 4 again.

  • SAFARI 6: how do I clear Google search history?

There used to be an option at the bottom of the scroll down search bar for CLEAR SEARCH.
Now that Safari 6 has adopted the single info bar, that option seems to have disappeared.
So how do I clear search history?
I don't want to clear all history (i.e. sites visited),
    just search history.

    Thank you,
but the point of my question was precisely that in 2012,
the way that Google is presented within Safari is different
(e.g., there is now just a single search bar),
so some of the info on the old threads is no longer relevant.
That is why I titled the qustion clearly "SAFARI 6".
However, I have discovered the answer myself.
I think I was being just too impatient.
The same option of CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES  does come up
if you click and hold on the magnifying glass icon to the left of what is now the single Google search bar.
This click and hold opens a roll-down menu, and near the bottom is the CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES option.

  • Unable to clear Google search history in Safari

I am unable to clear old searches in Safari.  None of the following has any effect: using the clear recent searches button, totally resetting Safari, deleting all history and cache and trying to delete each individual search item manually, or by changing default search method.  These are old items, not recent searches, but they continue to show up in the recent search area.  It appears to be a bug.  Any ideas how to REALLY clear out the search cache?
    THANKS

Seem to have finally fixed it by deleting the safari plist entry.

  • Since last update, Wells Fargo website opens in a sidebar, it it does open in Safari. Only way to make it work is to close all tabs and then open Wells Fargo from a bookmark. Have cleared all history, cache, cookies. Mac OS X 10.7.3 and Firefox 10.0.

Have cleared all history, cache, and cookies. Have a Mac running Lion OS X 10.7.3 and Firefox 10.0. This website works fine on a PC and Mac with Safari.

Opening in the side bar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.<br />
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the side bar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).<br />
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.<br />
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the side bar" is not selected.
