Click on thumbnail and different photo appears

this just happened yesterday...when i click on a thumbnail, a different photo appears...help! do i need to redo all of my albums?
Mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.6) library is on LaCie drive

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You shouldn't have to redo all your albums. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options regarding the thumbnails and database. That should reset the library correctly.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Have you recently deleted photos using the finder or run clean up software? Is so restore your backup
If not the backup your iPhoto Library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option and command keys. Rebuild your database

Others have commented on this too. It seems to be one of the 'improvements' of the newer version you are supposed to embrace with joy as an exciting new development. You can send feedback to Apple but realize you may be perceived as standing in the path of progress.

Like the title says. WhenI click on a thumbnail in a folder on the iphone a different photo from another folder appears. Weird.

When I drag a photo to the timeline on iMovie, a different photo appears. I've tried recreating thumbnails, and also created the problem photos in a test library.

When I drag a photo to the timeline on i-Movie sometimes a different photo, or even a video appear and sometimes it is just a black screen. I've tried recreating thumbnails, and even copied the problem photos into a test library, but still can't get it to work. Genius Bar kept my laptop 6 days and didn't do anything to help, just said the project was corrupt and I would need to recreate. Just tried a completely new project with totallty different photos and still experiencing the same problem. Anyone else had this issue?

Different photo appears when clicking on photo in album

I imported some photos into an album, original source was camera and photo stream. On many, but not all of the photos in the album, when I click on it (say Photo A) a DIFFERENT photo (photo B) appears. If a make the smallest edit to photo B then it appears correctly in the album. This is mystifying !!

Missing Thumbnails and Missing Photos

I updated iphoto to 6.02, and now I'm getting blank spaces for a bunch of photos in the thumbnail section, and I'm getting the empty grey square with the exclamation point in regular sized photos.
Everything was just fine before the upgrade.
HELP!!!

Yes, ditto. I have same problem as Ted if not worse with iPhoto 6.02. There must be 10000s of us out there which means that someone must have figured out a solution by now. Please!
I followed Niantic's instructions but nada. I also updated my OS and followed the link to the Apple com article on images with !s but Show file got no response nor did show original file etc.
Before I rebuilt the library I could click on some (but not all) the blank thumbnails and see the whole photo, but now all the blanks remain blank with the ! in the middle.
Checking the missing photos I noticed two things that might help. First, a great wodge disappeared from those taken between July and September 2005. Although some were still showing.
Of the other that went missing it seemed pretty random with a few here and there from the beginning of my library (2002) onwards.
Also a bunch of photos I gave names to so I could identify them easily in the iPhoto library folders got jumbled in the library so they are now out of sync with when they were taken.
Also some photos have renumbered themselves so 015_13 has duplicated itself as 015_12
Also the dates are wrong (this must be pretty easy to fix), so for example photos I took in March 2006 say Jan 2005
Also when I examine the file directory on iPhoto library none of the dates correspond to when I took them (one strand starts 1970) and many of the subfolders are empty (so I cant quite understand how they came to be created).
Finally, yes I do have backups though I am not looking forward to the hours it will eventually take identifying all the missing photos by number and then reimporting one or several at a time.
I already tried to do this with several different photos and each time it read: "Unreadable file: the following file could not be imported: users/etc/etc/IMG_xxxx.jpg (The file is in the iPhoto library folder). Please could someone translate what this means!
Please excuse the length of this posting but I figured the more info I give the more likely there might be a clue for some bright spark to figure out what the xxxx is going on. Like Ted, my digital photo life was simple and peaceful until iLife 6 came along.
I suspect that messy file management that was tolerated in my earlier version is no longer tolerated by this new version. Whatever the reason i am completely stumped. Over to you, Sherlock…

Two different photos appear in an Event, one photo is on top of the other. Please help!

I own a Mac Book Air OS X computer. In one iPhoto Event I have 936 photos. I noticed that two completely different photos in the Event are on top of each other. "Landscape photo A" appears in the slideshow bar at the bottom of the Event, while "Face photo B" appears on the Viewing screen. Two photos are stored one on top of the other. The photos were taken on the same trip, but on different days. I have tried to re-number or re-date all the photos in the Event, hoping that it would separate these photos. I have also tried to duplicate photo "A" as it appears on the Viewing screen, but photo "B" still lies on top of photo "A" in the slideshow bar at the bottom of the Viewing screen. Photo "B" also appears as an icon in the Event, while photo "A" doesn't appear at all, it continues to be unseen behind photo "B."
Please help. I have already lost several photos in the "Trash" while trying to resolve this problem.

What version of iphoto? Is OS X 10.9.5 as you state correct for you OS? where is your iphoto library located? (if on an external drive what forat is it and how is it connected to your Mac?)
you can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions, rebuild thumbnails and if necessary rebuild your database

Help keeping track of originals, thumbnails, and modified photos

My free hard drive space has dwindled to about 3GB (out of a 100-ish GB drive) because I have about 1100 high-resolution photos. The challenge: copy lesser-used photos to an external drive, but keep often-viewed photos on the internal drive. Problem is
1) I can't figure out how to differentiate between originals, thumbnails, and modified versions to know what to move (or not).
2) Do I have to create two different iPhoto libraries, one for/on the external drive and one on the internal drive？
There has GOT to be an easier way. iPhoto is eating my hard drive up but I'm worried about losing photos or sacrificing accessibility for storage space. Help!

Don't differentiate. Period. Never root around in the iPhoto Library Folder - any time you do you risk damaging your library.

Yes you do, and it's not difficult at all.
Remember: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss

When I tap a photo in my iPhone photo gallery, the photo appears but there is always a "this movie format not supported" alert and then the alert goes away and the photo appears. These are photos I've taken with the iPhone and aren't even movies.

It's very odd. I take photos with my iPhone and then later go to view the photos in the Photo Gallery on my iPhone. The photos to appear, but I keep getting "this movie format not supported" alerts, even though I am looking at photos taken by my iPhone. The alert appears briefly just after the photo appears and then the alert goes away and I can see the photo. They are just still photos and not movies. Why wouldn't the iPhone recognize the format of photos it is taking?

That thread helped for a time. But now it seems as though my computer is back to slow again. But, some of the jargon is over my head as well. Not sure I knew quoite everything they were talking about. But thanks a lot for that, it helped I probably just need to reread it and follow the instructions again. Thanks so much.

Attachment photo asked to use gallery or photos to open picture attachment then is says "just once or always" tapped photo and always and now different photos appear

in text messaging i received a photo as an attachment - i tapped on attached photo and dialogue box says " open with photos or Gallery" I tapped photos, then is says once or forever I tapped forever. Now when I tap an attachment from that sender is displays a random photo from that sender. How can I change back to original settings from this user.

Go into Settings > Applications > Default applications. You should see a listing of apps you have set as a default... and you can change those to your liking from there.

Thumbnail and actual photo orientation out of sync

The thumbnail shows the image sideways, I rotate to it shows properly, then double-click on the image and the image is shown as sideways...
I've rebuilt the library twice and things still aren't sync'd up.
Any ideas?

I imported some images from a photo. CD to my Pictures folder. A couple of then were wrongly oriented in the Preview thumbnail but when double-clicked (in Preview) they opened correctly!! So I imported them "as is" into iPhoto OK, they show properly without needing to rotate them.
I copied the same images from my Pictures folder to my Panther iBook and this time all the Preview thumbnails werre correctly oriented. Again they imported and viewed correctly in iPhoto without the need to rotate.
So perhaps there is a bug in one of my versions of Preview? (They are 2.1.0 and 3.0) The moral is (maybe) to take Preview's thoughts with a grain of salt!

Exclamation marks when i click on thumbnail in i photo

When I click on the thumbnails in IPhoto the picture won't come up, I just get an exclamation mark. I restored my librry from time machine, but not sure where I am going wrong. Any advice appreciated

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

After restoring my photos in PHOTOSHOP 5.0 to new computer, cursor spins and no photos appear

I restored my photos to my new computer from an external HD. I updated to the 5.02. The problem I am having is that PS will not put these photos on screen in the Organizer. The cursor spins. I am using Windows 7, coming from XP. How can I get my photos to appear in PS?

I presume you are talking about Photoshop Elements 5, and not "PHOTOSHOP 5.0".
