  • Click Wheel Totally Messed Up

I've had my iPod mini (2nd generation) since late May of this year. About three months ago, the click wheel started to not respond very well. I messed around with it a little and reset it a few times and it worked fine.
But then about 1 month ago, it started to do the same thing, accept worse. And now when I try to scroll down the songs, it either doesn't respond or freaks out and keeps going from one song/cattegory on the list to another. When I finally get it to my songs, I can press forward about a billion times to get to the song I want, but that's about the only way it will work.
The songs play fine, and everything else works fine, besides the click wheel. Oh yes, and the screen in kind-of broken like.. on the inside... but that isn't my main concern. I've never dropped it either, it just gets knocked around a little in my purse. Please, if anybody has/had this problem or knows what to do or where to take it, besides sending it in to an Apple store, I could really use some advice!
    Thanks!

I just sent my iPod into apple which i was not happy about because it means that i don't have my Ipod for 2-4 weeks!!! and there are no guarantees that it will work again which stinks but in your case i would sent it to apple it could be better in the long run! Good Luck!!! because right now im not at all happy with my iPod either!!

  • TS1425 OK so I finally got it to turn on but now the click wheel is messed up.

The click wheel isn't working now. I already tried what Apple put up but it didn't work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Dean Winchester

    Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If yu can't turn it off, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try again.
If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and service is required.

  • Using the click wheel quickly pulls up a letter...but the WRONG LETTER

OK, this is funny and somewhat topical. I am afraid it is a predecessor to future problems though.
When using the click wheel rapidly in song selection we all know that letter pop up to help you scroll quicker. Well, the series of letters for me goes something like this:
    A B T B C D E T E F G H T H I J K L T L...you get the idea. Yes, it repeats the letter "T" over and over.
Does anyone have any ideas about this? I have reset the iPod, but am leary about restoring it because I have 45 episodes of The Office and 6700 songs to mess with.
      Windows XP Pro

I am going to post, no so much an answer, but an observation. Here is what I noticed. The letter 'T' pulls up whenever there is the word "the" in the title. So, I am thinking that with the new iTunes, it updates the iPod not to recognize the word "the" when alphabetizing, but it recognizes the letter 'T' when scrolling.
Example: Bananarama - Venus would come first, then the next song is The Band - Acadian Driftwood. So, Band comes after Bananarama if you omit the word "the", but the letters recognize the 'T' in the. Make Sense?
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Does anyone know where I can tell Apple about it?
Apple needs a section that we can click on called "stupid things we seem to overlook" and then fill out opinions on dumb screwed up options like this.

  • Click wheel no longer works unless iPod is docked

I have a 4th-gen iPod nano that was accidentally bumped with a ladder while it was seated in a stereo that has the iPod slot. The leg of the ladder whacked the top of the iPod where it was sticking out of the player/boombox.
The screen is OK. Shake shuffle still works. There's no external evidence of damage. The click wheel can be used to turn the iPod on just fine. But once the iPod is on, the click wheel does not respond.
If you put the iPod back in the boombox slot, the click wheel will work again.
I think maybe what happened is that the circuit board got separated further from the click wheel on the top surface and so it's not able to make contact (or good "non-contact," if that makes sense) anymore. Maybe that's why it will still work in the boombox, but not when you have it out of the boombox. An iPod that's not portable just isn't as much fun.
    Can this be fixed?

  • Unresponsive click wheel

I just got a my old ipod replaced after almost 2 years of use. The old one had a back light probelm. So after about a week without an ipod my "new" aka refurbished unit came in. Not even one day into using it, the click wheel is messed up. I can get a response (the backlight comes on) from switching the hold switch on and back off but the click wheel doesn't work. Sometimes it will work fine and just stop. It will stop working for days at a time. I live a good distance from the apple store and hence the genius bar and im sick of wasting gas driving there and back, so if anyone knows how to fix this problem please share.
I know it's the click wheel because it responds through the bottom port thing. (I can plug it in my iHome and play it through that and use the remote to the iHome on it)
    What I have tried:
    soft reset
    charge (short and long times)
    plugging into computer
    updating ipod software
    updating itunes
    cleaning the wheel
My suggestion to people with minor problems is just keep your old ipod because apple obviously gives you a piece of junk for a replacement ipod.

I have a very similar problem. When listening to a song i can't immediately change the volume, I have to press a button to "wake it up." It does the same thing in the menus and won't even allow me to play the music quiz game. I plan on taking it to the Apple store to talk to a Mac genius because the site doesn't offer much help.. and neither do I sorry good luck though, I know how you feel.

  • 5G click wheel MIDDLE BUTTON STUCK!!!

WOW. i mean i just got my new 60GB black video ipod from the store.
i played with it a bit after transfering all my data onto it.
then the middle button got stuck inside!
its surrounded by the click wheel, and its sunken in.
i have tried to push it back up anyway i could find, but using needles is hard. and it's screwing my brand new ipod, which looks bad right now.
i am too **** far to go back to the store now... [really far!]
never heard of this problem... any ideas ???

Actually you are not the first. The same thing happened to my 4th generation 20gig. About 7 months after I got it. The middle button still worked but was stuck down. It caused some stange behaviors when I would navigate the iPod and when I finally got tired of dealing with it I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced it on the spot. As long as it's still covered don't mess with it, just bring it back.

  • IPod Classic click wheel

Just got one yesterday and it's wonderful apart when you're viewing pix. I have around 2000 pictures on it and when you click pictures, you get the browser opening up. When you selct a picture to see, the screen goes black and nothing happens. I have to click the centre button for the picture to show but when it does, the click wheel does not advance thru the pictures. To do this I have to press the left and right sides of the wheel.
If I reset (using the menu+centre button) the scrool wheel works again like it's supposed to but not for long. In a minute or so, it stops working.
Does anyone have a solution please?
If I have to take it back to the store, how do I delete all my content off the ipod without messing up my iTunes library for the replacement iPod which I'll be getting?
Apart from this one problem, it's a wonderful machine.
    R.

Yeah, about the click wheel. IT *****. I have no clue what happened, but the 6G iPods have a horrible click wheel, I've had multiple friends send in theirs for replacements because the click wheel was non-responsive or only semi-responsive. And the worst part is that the replacements that they have gotten have had the same problems, I've known a couple people that actually have sent theirs in more than 4 times. This seems to be about a 50-50 occurance. I'm having troubles with mine and am hopefully sending it in soon. It's a major problem that needs to be fixed or Apple is going to lose a lot of customers

  • Click Wheel and Center sensitivity?

Been messing around with my newly purchased G4 Nano, and I've noticed something that's mildly annoying. I'm not sure if its just because I've become spoiled by the sensitivity of my main iPod touch, but the wheel on this model seems far less responsive than other click-wheel models I've owned in the past. Even the center button doesn't seem to register on occasion when I press it. And I know its pressed, because one can hear the little click of the button itself. (Not the Nano's speakers, mind you. Just the button!)
Anyone else having this problem? I'll start running my finger around the wheel, and it won't even notice I'm doing it...til I lift my finger off and then start running it over again and then it kicks in.
I'm tempted to bring it in and exchange it for another one, but I'm really not sure if I just need to retrain myself to use a click wheel model again...sigh.

I will say this...I turned the speaker-sound on to check the clicking thing...and when my Nano doesn't react to a center button press...it does NOT make the speaker-click sound. So the button press for me at least does not register on the Nano at all. I'm starting to think I just got a nano with a less sensitive center button...I might just exchange it for another one, or maybe upgrade to 16 GB. The joys of having a brick-and-mortar Apple Store within 10 miles...
And what with my Touch becoming much more a full-on PDA rather than just an iPod these days, I drain the battery on it faster than I thought possible with all the various apps, eBooks and web browsing I do more often now...
So I really WILL be carrying two iPods around with me. Even with the little nano annoyances. Guh. Glad its so bloody tiny...my pockets can't hold much more gear...

  • My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes.

    Hi There,
The title actually says it all..
(My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes 7.4.2, although the iPod works fine.. iTunes keeps saying to reset it, but I don't see why I should)
The iPod seems to work just fine, so I'm not in a big hurry to erase all my songs audio books etc..
I am thinking that this is a problem with Macintosh iTunes version 7.4.2, from what I'm seeing, but how should I proceed?
    Many thanks for any help.
    Eric

Sounds like a dead battery. Take it into your local Apple store/Genius bar and see if there is anything they can do for you.  Another option is to send it in to a third party repair company who can replace the battery at a pretty low cost.

  • My i pod nano click wheel doesn't work. how do i fix it?

my i pod nano click wheel has stopped working. My i pod still works when in my docking station but the wheel doesn't. Anyone got any ideas what I can do? I've tried to restore settings but that hasn't worked.

That is a hardware issue.  Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.  If you want to DIY - iPod Repair Tutorials

  • How Can I Recover Paid For iPod Click Wheel Games

Well, well, well.  It seems that Apple iTunes had really ****** me off today.  Here is what happened
Recovering iPod Classic Click Wheel Games
Here is my story and at the bottom are my Questions
The hard drive on my old computer crashed and I bought myself a new one.  When I finally decided to put more on music onto my iPod Classic something happened.  iTunes disabled without deleting my $300 worth of iPod Classic Click Wheel Games.  I've called and contacted them for support to no avail.  I believe I forgot to authorize my new computer before putting on my new music.
Just before Christmas I called Apple support asking questions & the man on the phone didn't have very good advice for me.  He said that maybe iTunes could replace the games for me.  So I started looking at iTunes for iPod Classic Click Wheel Games and they were no where to be found.  Apparently Apple had removed them from the store and yet they sell iPod classics.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/30/apple-removes-ipod-click-wheel-games-from-it unes/
After Christmas I tried again to contact them about my iPod Classic to try and have my $300 worth of click wheel games replaced.  While I waited on the phone for an hour while they played poor quality music into my ear giving me sever headache.  I was already frustrated as it is and when I got a hold of someone she I had trouble understanding her.  (I have poor hearing, had a headache and was frustrated)  She gave me advice to contact Apple about the iTunes store.  I called again and got a hold of someone who i could better understand.  He gave me a step by step information which was the same as the last person I had contacted.
Now I sent an email to iTunes store asking if i could get help
All the iPod Classic Click wheel games files were still on my iPod.  Now I needed some way of retrieving the files.  I made a that attempt at contacting apple and they told me that i Could "Check for Available Downloads".  Which was the very first thing I'd Tried.  But these are files which i believe apple only allowed One Download.  I could not get my files from Apple.
Now I sent them a 4th Very long message stating what happened and Asking for Answers for Four Questions.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to Please get some answers to My Questions Which I WANT You PLEASE to Help Me with.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to know.
    1) Is there a way for me to Re-Activate my 2.3gb of iPod Classic Games so that they will once again work?
    2) Is it possible to copy the games from my iPod onto my computer & How Can I Copy these iPod Classic Games from my iPod Back Onto my Computer?
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid for the files.
I really want to Download these games back from Apple iTunes Or to re-activate my iPod classic games and copy them from my iPod back onto my computer.  It seems that this isn't possible.  If this isn't possible I Am Going to Be very Skeptical about ever getting a iPod Touch or iPhone.  I've already been telling a lot of people about my problem.
So Far Unfortunately for me Apple & iTunes has not been very much help.
Thank You for reading my message.  Please help me with the answers to the 4 Questions
The message which they sent back Has Made Me Angry.  I'm Not going on apple pay per incident Paying $35 for a phone call if they can't send me an email with answers to these four ******g questions.  So I suppose you can tell that right now I Am ****** Off.
Since I sent the first message I authorized my new computer which didn't re-activate me games.
Then I went onto Google searching "how to copy files from iPod to computer."
Which Led me to this website
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/
I downloaded a trial version of Touch Copy
Somehow I managed to re-activate my lost games and copy most of the files back onto my computer using "Touch Copy".
Then I downloaded the last 4 missing files from somewhere else but I'm not posting where i got them.
Now that I have fixed my problem without Apple's expensive help
I Really Want To Know the answers to questions # 3 & 4
    3) Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid $300 for the files.
I Thank You For taking the time to read my message.
    PLEASE HELP ME

Transfer your purchases into an authorized library, recover other media from the device, restore the device.

Transfer your purchases into an authorized library
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
Not really. All ClickWheel games should be locked to the account used to purchase them. If your friend wished to authorize your library that would work. At the time of purchase you were told that you got only one (successful) download of the content after which it would be your responsibility to maintain backups.
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
It will be fine. If you transfer the games into your library they can then be copied to any compatible device where they will work. The key is that the library doing the transfer is authorized to the relevant account when you update the content.

Hi, Last night, I had a strange shutdown problem on my iMac G5 (revB, 20", 2.0 Gig), with 1 Gig RAM, running 10.4.4 with all updates. I had had the computer on most of the day, using it off and on. I shut it down, and left the room. When I came back
