Clicking on a link that opens Internet Explorer slows all applications to near frozen. Solution?

Firefox is my default browser. Every time I click on a link that opens in Internet Explorer (I. E.) , my entire system slows to near freezing. All operations, including shut down, take forever. The only way I've found to resolve the issue has been to shut down, and reboot. I've tried to avoid clicking on I. E. links, but some websites (especially some customer service links) seem to be available only through I. E.

Hi,
Usually if such programs are hard-coded to look for and open IE, then setting Firefox as the default browser ('''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u Advanced] > '''General''') may not be effective. You can try to contact the providers and request an update to their programs/services. You can also try to deselect Internet Explorer in Windows Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components (this only removes the references from the Start menu, other locations and hides the IE executable, doesn't uninstall IE).

  • When i run firefox setup all that shows up on my pc four shortcuts that open internet explorer

    I downloaded and saved firefox set up and when i ran it a window showed the extraction but then nothing happened. i searched for mozilla and found only 4 shortcuts that open internet explorer.

    If your Firefox is in FullScreen '''press F11 key''' OR move your Mouse cursor to the top of the window, right-click and Remove Checkmark from '''Hide Toolbars'''
    -> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
    -> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> select '''Menu Bar''' and '''Navigation ToolBar'''
    -> press '''CTRL + B''' for '''Bookmarks Sidebar'''
    Check and tell if its working.

  • When I click on a link that opens up automatically in a new window (ie internet banking), it will not load at all.Page remains blank.

    Links that open in new windows do not load. The page remains blank. I have downloaded other web browsers and these pages all work with these browsers. I have been using firefox for years and this has only started happening in the last month or so. Is there an update that can fix this? I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled firefox and still the same thing.
    There are no error messages, just a picture of a white sheet of paper in the top left hand corner with the writing "search book marks and history". New tabs are working, it's just the new windows that won't load.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • When I click on a link that opens in a new window, it takes an unusual long time to open. (16-20 seconds). Same with opening Firefox when I turn on my laptop.

    Once it's open, it works fine. I can move around the document or page without any issue, it's just opening. This does not happen when it opens a new tab. Only when it opens a new pop up page. Same with opening Firefox in the morning. I did the same process in IE, and did not have the same problem.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Also make sure that your security software is blocking (pop-up) windows.

  • How can I open Internet explorer only pages on a mac? The website that I need to access only permits internet explorer

    How can I open Internet explorer 'only' pages on a mac, without creating a drive partition and installing windows separately?
    I've tried winbottler, but it doesn't seem to serve my purpose. The web site that I'm trying to access only permits Internet explorer.

    Microsoft has not written IE for Mac for years so unless you want to create a parition and install Windows, or user a Windows emulator, you're out of luck for installing IE on a Mac.

    There might be a work around for you since it's just the one site.
    Go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
    Enable the Develop menu.
    Now click Develop from the Safari menu bar then click User Agent > IE 9, 8, or 7

  • When clicking on a link, it opens a new tab rather than just opening in the existing tab. How do I stop that?

    For example, when I'm in Flickr and I'm looking at an album, I click on a picture and it opens a new tab for that picture. When I click on the arrow to see the next picture in the series, it proceeds to open yet another tab, and so on. It's not difficult to have tabs that span the width of my screen in no time at all.

    This should help:
    1. Go to: Tools > Options > Tabs
    2. There is a section at the top that says 'Open links that open in a new window in:' and then a drop-down menu
    3. In the drop-down menu, select the 'Current Tab' Option
    4. Click 'OK'

    Tools > Options > Tabs: [X] "Open new windows in a new tab instead"
    You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to divert all JavaScript window.open() calls to a new tab.

  • Message "Do you mean to switch apps? Reader is trying to open Internet Explorer" in blue bar. Why

    First time user.  Instructions on how to use not clear.  My problem is the message "Do you mean to switch apps?  Reader is trying to open Internet Explorer?" suddenly appeared in blue bar.  Occurs with I click on links in PDF.  What caused this?  How to fix?  How to avoid it from happening again?
    Same conflict with email links, just different message: "Do you mean to switch apps? Reader is trying to open mail?"
    Goal:  Do not want to switch apps and do not want to be asked this question.
    Environment: Windows 8, file developed in Publisher 365, Reader 10 "I think"

    Thank you for responding.  I have recreated the error, but cannot figure out how to use Snipping Tool to get screenshot of a Windows 8 panel.  Have the tool placed in the tool bar, but tool bar not accessible on the PDF display.  Any suggestions?

  • When I open Internet Explorer 10 I can't get the favorites bar to show favorites.

    When I open Internet Explorer 10 I can't get the favorites bar to show my favorites.  I've gone to "view" > toolbars and clicked on favorites bar but it won't show my favorites in the favorite bar.   This problem only started
    a couple of days ago.  Before then the favorites bar always showed with my favorite.

    Hi,
    Do you mean the favorites items don't show up in favorites bar or even the favorites bar
    doesn't shown up in IE?
    I suggest you check whether the favorites link existing in the favorites bar folder, you can click the
    in the up right corner, then expand folder "Favirites Bar", or manually check folder C:\Uses\username\Favorites\Favorites Bar
    Or create new favorite item, then check if it works.
    You can also try to launch IE in no add-on mode, then check the issue again, if problem disappears in this mode, then we can narrow down to find the culprit, launch IE by running
    %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe -extoff

  • Search add ons popping up when opening internet explorer

    had a verizon tech work on this for hours said must  be in a registery file could not resolve with premiuym support

    Hello again bwt80144,
    Thank you for responding to my post requesting additional information. I am going to provide you with some steps to try below to see if we can get this issue of Search Add-Ons popping up on you.
    Step 1: Open Internet Explorer
    Step 2. Click the Tools button
    Step 3. Click Internet options
    Step 4. On the Advanced tab, under Security, select the Enable Enhanced Protected Mode check box
    Step 5. Click OK
    Step 6. Restart your computer
    ***NOTE: Enhanced Protected Mode helps protect your PC and personal data from malware and other attacks. When it's turned on, add-ons such as toolbars, extensions, and browser helper objects can only run if they're compatible with Enhanced Protected Mode. You'll be notified if an add-on is incompatible.
    Now if you are still having issues with the pop-ups you can try the steps below to remove the Add-Ons:
    Step 1. Open Internet Explorer
    Step 2. Click the Tools button
    Step 3. Click Manage Add-Ons
    Step 4. Click All add-ons
    Step 5. Select the add-on you want to delete
    Step 6. If the add-on can be deleted, you'll see the Remove option. Tap or click Remove
    Step 7. Click Close
    If none of the above works I would check my computer to ensure that I did not have a virus. I am providing you with an HP Support document: HP and Compaq Computers - Resolving and Preventing Viruses on Your Computer, which I would recommend that you review and apply to your computer to ensure that you are not infected with a virus.
    Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Is there any way to open Internet Explorer?

    I wonder if there's any way of opening Internet Explorer up, together with the specified URL without the user clicking on the IE icon using Java??
    Thank you in advance.

    IE (Internet Explorer) is fused into Windows and so Windows will always be able to access it, thats right, you can NEVER really get rid of it. That's because Microsoft decided for you that YOU want their browser and no body elses. Either Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, or HotJava will be installed on a Windows-based system so do this to get IE running.
    String theURL = "http://java.sun.com"; // chnage this to whatever URL you want.
    try {
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:/program files/internet explorer/iexplore.exe " + theURL)'
    } catch(IOException e) {
    Now it runs IE, netscape is something similar.
    MacOS will be different, also Unix/Linux.

  • When I click on a link, it opens in a new window but the window is BLANK and I can't type anything. I have firefox 3.5.2

    when I click on a link to open something in a new window, it opens a new window but it's blank!!! it's driving me nuts and I did update Firefox, but since I thought that was the problem I decided to install an older version of Firefox instead. please help!!!

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
