Client Security Software /. Password Manager / Windows Authentication

I have a T61 w/ XP Pro SP3 installed w/ all current patches & updates installed, Client Security Software v 8.21.006.00 installed, ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software v5.8.4.5476 & the most current BIOS updates installed. I am having a problem with the Client Security Software.
The CSS/Password Manager software is supposed to hold all of my passwords and authenticate me as I access webpages that require an account & password for access. When the software is working correctly, the Client Security Software / Password Manager package is supposed to drop into the system tray in the bottom right corner of windows...pretty much running as a service.
After I login to Windows, the Client Security software starts up, I am prompted for my fingerprint (or password, either appears to work)...which then is supposed to authenticate to my Windows password. I have set my windows password and machine local password to using the same password.
The CSS/Password Manager software then appears to authenticate. I then get the Password Manager application "splash" screen and the Password Manager application opens. The application window appears to be correct and offers several different password options (just like it is supposed to). When I close the Application window, the application icon is in the system tray, running like a service. The Password Manager application window is hiding the small application "splash" screen. When I click "ok" on the application splash screen, the Password Manager "splash" screen disappears AND the Password Manager application icon disappears from the system tray...shutting down the functionality of the application.
When I talked to Lenovo Support, they said,
uninstall the Client Security Software,
uninstall the Fingerprint Reader software,
reboot the laptop
press F1 to go into the BIOS
disable the security chip
clear out / delete cached fingerprints
F10 & yes to save changes
reboot
login to windows
reinstall each application (do not enable the security chip)
reboot
Register / enroll fingerprints as required.
Logout/login and at the CSS screen enter the Windows password.
Problem still exists as described above...
I also did this complete process all over again AND DID enable the security chip.
Prpblem still exists as described above
I have done everything they said to do and still the applications do not function correctly.
Can anyone give me some help here?
Thanks
Cliff

you are lucky, mine hasn't ever worked before. It makes the whole thing useless

  • T61p Client Security Solutions + Password Manager + Two Operating Systems

    Greetings.
I am running both XP and VISTA on my T61p.  I use the client security solutions password manager feature for websites and network shares.  Since my model has the biometric scanner instead of entering the user ID and password I just swipe my finger.  The issue is that when I first setup client security solutions it creates some system key that I assume is tied to the security chip hardware.  Once I have it setup and working under one operating system it fails to authenticate me under the other operating system.  It brings up a windows that says, "Verify Identity" / "reason for authentication:  system key recovery"  Why am I not able to use this feature under both operating systems?
    Thanks for your time.
     XSYLUS

    Thanks for the reply.
I was using an older version of RnR, however, after the attempt to re-install, I upgraded to the latest version.  It still errors out.
As to your second guess, I was hopefull this was the fix, I had forgotten to go through the registry.  I deleted an empty CSS folder in the Common Files folder.  And found several registry entries which have now been deleted.  I don't believe I missed any.  But unfortunately no luck.  I cleared the chip again as well.
If it adds any clues, the system update was not working either.  But the language fix posted on the forums resolved it.  If I remember correctly the first time I tried to reinstall CSS it did ask a question/comment about language not matching.  I could be wrong, however, there have been alot of attempts.
I spoke with tech support on the phone with the only suggestion being a clean restore of the laptop which I would like to avoid.
    Thanks again.

  • Client security Solutions/Password Manager failure - all passwords disappeared from the list

    Dear All,
Could anybody comment what might happened and from where the PW data may be found.
After computer where turned on, only fingerprint reader PW was active. All other where missing. The folder was empty?
I am sorry about grammar mistakes , this is not my native language

    Hi,
based on your description I suggest follwoing:
    - in case you have CSS configured for certain applicaitons to start via finger swipe <configuration, where you replaced the typing of the password with your FPR swipe> then I assume, that during the "cleanup phase", Vista deleted also certain files, that are required for the correct configuration of the finger swipe, so that ceratin applications can start. And this was the trigger. CSS detected, that this file is no longer awailable and since he is using a bacpuk, CSS needed to restore the configuration files, so that it can work correctly. However, this situaiton triggered CSS to reboot the machine, so that the changes will work correctly.
This is my assumption, what probably caused the situation, so that the system turn off.
However, the situation, where you could not start this system. Hmmmmm, that seems prety strange.
In this case I can only imagine, that the reboot, or the shutdown command somehow went not corect and the system accidentelly started into Hybernation state and the system freezed.
Althought this is realy just my assumption, it does not need to be exactly this situation.
I would suggest, that the first part might be partly correct, but with the second part I'm realy not sure. I would need to see it and debug the machine, so that I can say exactly what happened.
Do you think, that this might fit your situation?

  • Client Security Solution password problem

I have just had my computer reformatted to the factory settings. I wanted to avoid having to enter my password each time I logged in but, as has happened before, I forgot what the process was. Eventually I made my password blank and did something else (?) which meant that I wasn't asked for a password by Windows. Unfortunately Client Security Solutions now asks me to validate my identity ("Your Windows password was changed recently. Please enter your Windows password to synchronise with Client security Solution".)
I have just given myself a new Windows password and will see how it goes with Client Security Solution once I reboot. My basic aim is to bypass the Windows password screen.

Since my last message I have reset my Windows password. I no longer get the message from Client Security Solution, instead Windows tells me that I have entered the wrong password. All is OK if I then enter the new password.
Perhaps this query should be placed on a Windows forum? I have set Windows to bypass the password entry screen, so If it weren' for this problem I would never have to enter a password.

  • HP Client Security software preventing the upgrade to Windows 8.1 on my Elitepad 900.

When I tried to upgrade my Elitepad 900 to Windows 8.1 I get a message that the HP ProtectTools Security Manager must be uninstalled before proceeding. I'm then prompted to uninstall the Device Access Manager for HP ProtectTools and Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools. I never bothered to initiate any of this software when I got my Elitepad 900 and now I'm not sure if it's safe to remove it and proceed with the Windows 8.1 upgrade? Hopefully someone here can help me out with this.
    Thanks,

Here is the post. http://208.74.204.203/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Updating-to-WIN-8-1-Fix-to-black-sc... Let me know if yu can help with this issue as soon as possible.
    Thanks!
This  worked for me after 7 attempts with all kind of solutions on different forums. HP Envy 15 Notebook - Intel HD 4000, Nvidia 740
Locate the F11 key and start tapping it as soon as you turn on the system.
Stop tapping once you reach the recovery manager screen.
    Click Troubleshoot .
On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager .
On the OS selection screen, click Windows 8 . Recovery Manager opens.
Under I need immediate help , click Minimized Image Recovery .
When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option.
If you have already backed up personal files or you do not want to back up personal files, select Recover without backing up your files , then click Next . Continue to the next step.
Follow the on screen options and complete the system recovery.
After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup
-Then, make sure to install all updates via Windows Update. Do NOT install any drivers for graphics etc.
-I did NOT do any updates with HP Assistant
-Run the update via Wired network, disable WiFi and Bluetooth
-I did disable all things in Autostart. Could be reached via Win8 taskmanager
    -Ran Microsoft Compability checker
    Update went fine this time.
Some of my steps might not be needed. And of course if MS compbility checker says a driver is not compatible you will have to update it.
Hopefully it will get you there.

  • Thinkadvantage Productivity Center - Password Client Security Solution

Thinkadvantage Productivity Center - Password Client Security Solution password manager opens from sys tray but after you put in your password it shuts down after first minimizing.  At one point firefox was installed, but since removed and it is still doing this.  Please help on next steps?

    Hi,
can you please explain, what exactly is happening on your system?
Based on your description I can imagine multiple situations.
    Here are some of them:
    - You want to save a password using the Client SEcurity Solution Password manager (CSS), BUt after you enter the password for that particular web page and you enter then also the password for the CSS applicaiton, then nothing happens.
    - You try to open the main Page of CSS and after you enter the password into the first screen, then the page goes away, and the nothing more happens.
Please let me know the exact description of your situation and the version of your system, Windows and  the CSS application, so that I can optionally try to reproduce this situation.
    Cheers

  • Password manager hell

My T500 is driving me crazy
I can login with my fingerprint software but when I go to a web page and the password manager pops up requesting autentication I can't login to it. I know what password I set originally, no question about this. But it will not let me login complaining that authentication failed. From time to time when it pops up and asks me to swip my fingerprint, it says there are none enrolled...that makes no sense because I login to my system with my fingerprint so clearly I have enrolled. I even re-enrolled my fingerprints. I have tried everything I canthink of including uninstalling the software then reinstalling but the same issue occurs.
What else can I do ?
    Thanks for any advice
    Chris

    Hi,
in case you want to have the Password manager back, then you need to download and install the applicaitons called "Client Security Solution". Actually the full name is "Client Security Solution -Password Manager"
Once you install this software, then you will have the icon back in the Toolbox and also password manager back again.
    Cheers

  • How Can I Uninstall Thinkvantage Password Manager?

How can I uninstall or disable this without compromising my fingerprint reader?
Failing that, how can I remove an application so Password Manager no longer tries to "help" me with its password?

I've just upgraded to Windows 7, and I've yet to activate the Client Security software, so I can't be specific on what may have changed from Vista.
In the Vista version of Password Manager, I recall there was an "Options" or "preferences" item in the menu bar of the program. Within the options then displayed, it was possible to switch off the manager's recognition of Windows programs' password entry, or for internet browsers' password entry, and maybe one or two other classes of programs. So in your case, switching off recognition of all Windows programs might do it.
Oh, one more thing: I'm pretty sure both Password Manager and the Fingerprint Manager are dependant on the Client Security Solution (CSS) software package installation, since the latter contains the bits and pieces of the framework that connects them all together with the "Trusted Platform Module"  (TPM), the hardware encryption device that's soldered onto the main board of the notebook, as well as the biometric hardware.
Since the CSS has these dependencies (while using the TPM drivers provided in Windows), it's really an all-or-nothing proposition: either you use it, or you switch entirely to another security suite solution vendor such as UPEK, who will use their own security framework, password manager, and fingerprint software.
Windows 7 is significantly more flexible than Vista here: for instance the UPEK security suite uses the "Windows 7 Biometric Device Framework", meaning that any hardware device with drivers for that framework will work "out of the box" with the UPEK security suite, while Vista still depends on manufacturer's device driver kits--e.g. with Vista, the UPEK suite will only support UPEK fingerprint hardware, not the Authentec devices installed on some Thinkpads.

  • Power-on password and windows logon

    Hi,
I have just purchased two T61p's (by accident without the fingerprint reader). From a previous T60p I know that I could configure a poweron password (using the fingerprint) and when that was accepted the system would boot up and log my right into Windows since I was already authenticated.
Now, I would like to configure the same thing with these new T61p's using a poweron password (typed on the keyboard). I have tried to figure out how to do it (e.g. under Client Security Solution/Advanced/Manage security policies) - but so far without success. It still prompts me for the Windows password as well.
I have talked to Lenovo Support but it seems that they only support "genuine" Windows startup issues.... And Client Security Solution is a third-party program that they are not trained in - and thus cannot support.... - although this program (and others in the same category) are under Lenovo copyright etc. etc. if you look under "Help - About". Very strange (seen from a customer viewpoint)... However, the supervisor I ended up talking to was of the personal opinion that the above setup should be possible although he could not remember how to configure it (and could not officially support/help on the issue).
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!
    John

OK - I left the domain and ran FP Mgr Pro and lo and behold, no fingerprints were enrolled.  Unfortunately, when I tried to enroll the fingers that I use for the FP reader, the machine told me that the fingerprints were already enrolled.  Recall that I did not delete the fingerprints that were enrolled under the domain before attempting to enroll at the machine level.
Then - I deleted the fingerprints at the domain level and deleted the fingerprints at the BIOS level.  I then logged in at machine level and enrolled fingerprints.
I rebooted and the machine asked for FPs at power on password and accepted my print.  Unfortunately, it booted me through power on and Windows security into machine level, not my domain which is where I need to be.
    This is very frustrating.

  • HP client security looking for fingerprintscanner that isn't there.

Whenever I want to log onto my laptop I have to wait for the fingerprint scanner software to say that my fingerprintscanner isnt there. After that notification I can just log on with my password. My question is: how do I get the software to stop looking for a scanner and take me to the normal login screen immediately?
Extra piece of information: if I run the HP client security app I always get the final screen of initialization and cannot change any settings.
A lot of thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Keep in mind that I don't own a business notebook -- I don't run your flavor of Client Security software although I am familiar with the security software that runs on the consumer HP notebooks.
Please do make sure you have the means to log into your computer prior to removing the program.
    A couple of ideas:
    Before you make any changes:
Create a Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
Caveat:  Windows 8.1 does include its own Native fingerprint Logon software that is NOT dependent on Client Security software.  Removing the Client Security program does not affect the Windows Native Logon software.  Should that software exist and be active on your system, it must be handled differently.  You might easily dissuade both the Client Security and the Native Logon
Windows key >>type anywhere on the screen  pc > Click on PC Settings >
            Accounts > Sign-in options
If PC Settings does not stop Client Security from bugging your trip:  If you are not interested in using the Client Security software -- for whatever reason -- then I should think that you could uninstall the program from your computer from Programs and Features.
If you do not have an extra admin account on the system, you might consider adding one -- you don't need to USE the account -- but it might "save your backside" down the road.  You do not want to be the one who writes in and says, "I am locked out of my computer!"
Create a User Account with Administrative Privileges – Windows 8-8.1
Reminder:  An extra admin account will not protect you from the lockup of the bootup BIOS password that happens to so many people.  Locking the BIOS at boot usually only locks out the owner, by the way.  Smiling.
Once you uninstall any program, Restart / Reboot the computer -- even if the system does not insist upon the reboot -- and log in.  Windows loves a good reboot!

  • Smart card with Thinkvantage Client Security Solutions doesnt work

    Dear all,
I have the Lenovo Gemalto Expesscard54 Smart card reader (41N3043). I purchased some .Net smart cards from Gemalto also. I have installed the drivers for both the smart card reader and the smart card minidrivers, as well as the PKCS#11 Drivers from Gemalto.
However when I try to setup a smart card using Thinkvanage Client Security, the selection remains greyed out. What is the problem?
When I try to run the executable css_smartcard.exe, I am told PKCS#11 Module is not installed. How do I install the module as there is no command to choose where the driver path is.
Essentially I am wondering how to use smart cards on the client security software. The documentation, even the CSS deployment guide, has so little information on this.

I should add that I am using Windows 7 and my CSS version is 8.3, I can also verify my smart card works for other applications, only thinkvantage CSS 8.3 does not work.

  • HP Client Security and TCPSVCS.EXE

    Hi,
I have a Elitebook 840G1 running Windows 7 professional. I activated the HP Client Security software this morning that came pre-loaded on the laptop. Since that point on, I now have TCPSVCS.EXE process running and taking 80-100% CPU runtime.
The laptop is virtually unuseable in this state. Can anyone advise a fix
