Client unmount volume problem

Dear Sir,
I get an error "No Space!" and clients unmount volume.
Does it mean that there is no free space on Xsan Volume?
Best Regards.

Running Mac OS X v10.9.4, TechTool Pro 7 v7.0.4, and Disk Warrior v4.4 using two Samsung 840 EVO SSDs, 2nd SSD cloned from the 1st. Recently xlr8yourmac.com published a Terminal command which allegedly re-activates the TRIM feature on SSDs, which was apparently lost with the OS X 10.9.4 upgrade from 10.9.3. See this web page:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/Chameleon_SSD_Optimizer.html#OSX_Trim_Comman ds
Looking at System Information (SATA/SATA express) I saw that "Trim Support" said "No." I entered the recommended command in Terminal on only the boot disk, and indeed, Apple System Information newly showed the "Trim support - yes" response. I immediately attempted to run TTP7's Volume Structures test on the other disk. The result was the error message in the subject line above, which suggested I quit any open applications on the other disk. There weren't any apps open. Next I tried Disk Warrior, run from the boot disk on the other disk, and got the same equivalent error, i.e. DW couldn't rebuild the other disk's directory because "the disk is still in use." This problem is 100% repeatable through restarts and shut down/reboots.
It looks as if re-enabling the "TRIM" capability causes the problem, but I don't know how to reverse that terminal command to check it out. A little help here?
    Thanks!

No, the problem is due to cloning the second drive from the first which apparently has left a "connection" behind so the system believes something is still using files on the other SSD.
If you open the Terminal you can force the SSD to unmount. Use these command lines:
         diskutil list
Press RETURN. You will get a listing of the device IDs for each drive. For example, your startup SSD may be /dev/disk0 and the other SSD would be /dev/disk1. Be sure you note the device ID for the SSD you need to unmount.
         sudo diskutil unmountDisk force /dev/disk1
Press RETIRN. You will be prompted for your admin password. Type it in carefully because it won't be echoed to the Terminal window.
If all is well you should see the SSD disappear from the Desktop. You should now be able to enter the command line to enable TRIM. Be sure you Restart afterward.

  • Cannot unmount volume

I was doing a maintenance on my system yesterday. I used DiskWarrior to do a rebuild on all the volumes. All was okay, except for my Mac HD 5 volume. I got this message when I tried to run DW 3.0.2 on this volume:
Repairing disk for “Mac HD 5”
    Repair attempted on 1 volume
    0 HFS volumes repaired
1 volume could not be repaired
Repairing disk failed with error Could not unmount disk (-10000)
When I used Disk Utility, verify disk volume, it said all was OK. But when I tried to verify permissions, it stopped about 1/4 of the way through. And then gave me a message "lost connection to volume, cannot unmount". Or to that effect.
I then tried TechTool Pro 4.1.1. I did a disk check, and all was okay. But when I tried to do a Volume check, I got this message from TTP:

There are a variety of invisible files, settings, and parameters that the Macintosh file system uses to locate files, free disk space, and for other maintenance and management routines. Damage to these critical data structures can result in lost or damaged files and may even necessitate a complete reformat of the volume.

TTP didn't actually complete a volume check. I hit start volume check. And it would just indicate it was complete, without actually every doing a full check.
Hopefully, there is a way of fixing this, without have to reformat the volume.
Also, I cannot startup from this volume. Tried, just got the grey Apple screen.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks dot. But I figured it out already. The problem was that the "automount volume folder" was deleted from the Mac HD 5 volume (have no idea how). These are invisible files, so I used Tinkertool to make them visible. That's how I realized that the automount file was missing. All the other volumes contained automount files for ALL the volumes (including for Mac HD 5). Except for Mac HD 5. This volume was missing it's own automount file. So I just copied the file over from one of the other volumes. And voila, Mac HD 5 is now bootable, and can be unmounted for volume maintenance.
Everything is working as it was.

  • Anyone know when Apple will bring out a patch to fix the volume problem you get on mac mini after downloading OS 10.8.5

Anyone know when Apple will bring out a patch to fix the volume problem you get on mac mini after downloading OS 10.8.5?

Only Apple knows the answer to whether or not there is a verified problem and if so when will a fix be released.  As is their custom, Apple does not talk about these things and the rules of these communities prohibit speculation about future udates or upgrades. It is probably safe to say if a fix is deemed necessary it will be called OS X 10.8.6.

  • Duplicating de confirmation for Clients with credit problems

    Hi,
We are using GATP to confirmed the sales orders quantities. In the check instructions,
we are using check availability and then RBA (product substitution)
When I create a sales order for a client with credit problems the confirmed quantity
is being duplicated after releasing the order.
The steps I am following are next:
    1.        VA01: create sales order (i.e: order product D 10 PC, I got 10 PC of product E confirmed because of the RBA)
    2.        VKM3: Release the order
    3.        VA03: display the sales order
(it duplicates the lines with confirmed quantity - i.e: I got line 10: product D 0 PC confirmed; line 11: product E 10 PC confirmed; line 12: product E 10 PC confirmed, so line 12 is repeating line 11)
We have explore any issues related to the availability check, but it seems to be a problem with the configuration of the credit processing.
Have you ever had this issue? Any recommendation to solve it?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    777,
    Are you using product allocation?
In what case you see duplicate confirmation? in case of partial delivered order? if so check OSS note 1442425.

  • Trying to backup despite Volume problems

I appear to have some volume problems with my internal HDD.
When I try to diagnose and fix it with Disk Utility the error is:
"Incorrect number of thread records" & "Invalid volume directory count"
Though the volume needs repairing, disk utility can't do it (nor can TechTool Pro http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id= 525&catid=6)
Since I can't fix it I think I understand that it would be best to back things up, reformat the drive.
My question is esssentially academic. Would backing things up copy the volume problem I'm experiencing? or would it even allow me to copy things correctly? And how does one know what file was damaged or corrupted?

Good questions. Repairing the HD problem is something Disk Warrior could possibly correct. It's the best app. for resolving directory problems.
Did Disk Utility specifically tell you that it couldn't fix the drive, or did it simply report the error. If it's the latter, I would rerun Disk Utility as many times as necessary to get a clean run (no problems). This may not be possible given what was reported in your Micromat referenced link, however, it's worth a try.
Given the current state of the directory, you would not be able to create a clean clone backup of the drive. I suspect you would see an error during the copying. You could though drag/drop specific folders/files to the drive to the extent your HD cooperates. IMO, a "must" for any maintenance strategy.
Do you have a current cloned backup of your system. If you do, you could always copy it over the existing drive. If it is "somewhat current", you could drag/drop important data files on your computer's HD to either external media or another parition on the external, then recopy the clone to the HD. Afterward, move the data files back to their original locations.

  • Unplugged my imac by accident and unable to unmount volume for repair

Managed to unplugged my imac yesterday without realizing it was still on. Now when trying to repair the disk I get: unable to unmount volume for repair. I tried to reinstall OS Maverick but it goes to OS X Yosemite telling me that I need to go to the app shop (the OS X Yosemite update never worked) and can't since I am blocked in Utilites. Can you please help? I don't want to lose my files.
    I have an IMac 25" 3 years old-on Maverick
    Thanks

If the computer will not see the internal HD when you start in the Recovery volume then it may be damaged. Time to take it to an Apple Store or AASP tone looked at.
You can attempt to reset the SMC and PRAM and that may help, if you don't know how do the SMC 2-3 times and instructions are in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

  • Audio volume problem in Premiere elements 12

How can I reduce or increase volume in the soundtrack???

Sorry for my English but I hope you understandthe following.
I have for the moment no time to go through your comments and ideas, but I certainly will do the coming days.
For good order I’ll explain my problem more in detail: (working with Window’s 7)
When I use Tools>smartmix, I change Audio 1 in “forground”, Comments in “foreground”, Soundtrack in “Background”, Audio 2 and 3 in “Background”. So far so good!.
Next step is: edit>preferences>audio>smartmixer, and the only thing I can change is “milliseconds (i.e. 10)”, “mix pause (i.e. 5 sec)”, and “reduce background in % (i.e. 90%)”. So far so good again!
The volume sound  of the audio track is indeed reduced when there is a conversation in the clip, but not enough, so still too loud, certainly when the conversation stops, the volume sound is far too loud.
    What do I want:
    a)      Remain the original volume from the conversations etc. in the clip, so don’t change anything in here.
    b)      Reduce the volume to the level I like!
I realise, this looks an easy and simple question, but I can’t fide out  hou too lower only the volume in a soudtrack!
Waiting your reply and many thanks in advance

  • Unable to unmount volume for repair.

"Unable to unmount volume for repair."
It only does it to 2 of my 4 external disks.
Do I do something wrong ?
    Thanx anyone.

You can't risk sawing off the tree limb you are standing on.
    Your Mac will not Repair:
    • The Boot drive
    • A drive with Open files on it
the solution for drives with open files is to do a restart and do not re-open old Applications. The solution for the boot drive is to use Recovery_HD as the "place to stand" and run the version of Disk Utility from there. (this means you are no longer booted from the Mac OS X partition, and the regular boot Volume is then free for full repair.)
If the drive passes Verify, it does not need to be repaired.

  • Unmounting volumes in 10.5

In my school we have some Intel iMacs which have a Windows partition as well as the usual Mac partition. Under OS X 10.4, we were able to prevent the Windows partition from showing up on the Mac desktop. We did this by logging in as root and editing the file "etc/rc". The addition of "diskutil unmount /Volumes/WinVol" immediately before the final line of "exit 0" unmounted the Windows partition called "WinVol" before the desktop appeared. We are upgrading to OS X 10.5 and have discovered that the file "etc/rc" no longer exists. Also, after examining all the other files in "etc/", there seems to be no direct equivalent. Does anybody know which file we can edit to achieve the same result as before?
Message was edited by: Steven Jones

Thank you both for your suggestions.
After much thought, examining of the files which are in the etc folder, and some internet searching, I did the following: after logging in as System Administrator (root), I went into the etc folder, duplicated the rc.common file and renamed it to rc.local, opened the renamed file in TextEdit, deleted its contents, typed in "diskutil unmount /Volumes/WinVol" (without the quote marks), then saved it and rebooted. Interestingly, if you are logged in as root (or another account with admin privileges) and use Disk Utility to mount the partition, it stays mounted after you log out and then go in as any other user (with or without admin privileges).

  • Continuing Speakerphone Volume Problem

After anxiously waiting three months for a firmware/software update that would fix the speakerphone volume problem I updated my two iPhones to v. 1.1.1. Unfortunately, neither of my iphones showed any increase in speakerphone volume.
We spoke to an Apple employee at our nearest Apple store (also the biggest and busiest Apple store in our area), and found out that if we wanted a speakerphone that we could use we should bring the phones in and have the Genius verify the low volume and give us a "part substitution" (which meant an opened iphone).
Instead (for various reasons) we decided to buy another IPhone, figuring "what are the chances that we would get three iPhones with very low speakerphones?" Also figuring that this very busy Apple store would have the latest IPhones available, with the speakerphone volume fixed. Apparently three is not the charm. Our new iPhone's speakerphone volume was just as low as our other two iPhones.
And our newest iPhone had the 1.1.1 update on it from the start. So I guess we will now try option (1).
For those of you who have had problems with the speakerphone volume and brought the IPhone back to the Apple store, were you able to find one with good speakerphone volume? I sure hope so!
    Thanks!
    Ashley

When people started complaining initially about the speakerphone issue. I brought my phone to my local Apple Store and the guy at the Genius Bar and I compared the speakerphone volume with the display phones. We did notice that mine was quieter than the rest. Because my phone was past the 14 day return period, my phone was sent out.
In all honesty, if there was an improvement, I would say it's very minimal. Long story short, I was able to swap out my phone for a brand new one and the speaker volume is relatively the same. Did the firmware 1.1.1 make it any louder? Not really. What I do notice is that the alert volumes have improved and that volume went up. But the speakerphone volume remained unchanged.
Personally this phone wasn't built for speakerphone use and you'll do better buying a bluetooth headset or a speakerphone instead. It's acceptable in a quiet environment but trying to use the speakerphone in public is out of the question.

  • DiskManagementTool / system.volume.unmount authentication problem

I have an OS X server that has both SCSI and SATA external drives. I have found that a non-Admin user cannot unmount or eject a drive without an administrator password, as the Finder is requesting access to system.volume.unmount. There is a fix to this by modifying the /etc/authorization file, as inelegant as that may be.
My problem is that mounting a SCSI (or SATA drive) in Disk Utility appears to require administrator access to 'make changes to DiskManagementTool' for the same system.volume.unmount right. The only workaround I've found so far is to make the unprivileged user a member of the Administrator group. This is far from ideal, and a major security problem.
Has anyone else found this problematic and seen a fix for it?
    Thanks!
