Cluster mgmt of off-network (multihomed) addresses
I'm currently in the process of configuring an HA cluster to replace a single machine. The original machine had virtual interfaces plumbed for several different networks, which remote sites connect to for FTP and other data. I'd like to know how to do the same using the cluster (3.1 on Solaris 9 atm).
Part of the problem is when I attempt to define the Logical Hostname resource, I get the error "specified hostname(s) cannot be hosted by any adapter on xxx". I tried configuring a different (permanent) address on both cluster nodes that was on the same network, which allowed the initial configuration; however, when the resource was stopped, it partially unconfigured the permanent interface and brough the entire cluster to its knees.
Does anyone know how I can do this? In detail, I have interface ce3 with a network like 192.1.110, and virtual addresses that need to be failover resources in the cluster on 192.1.33, 192.1.34, etc.
I've managed to succeed in getting the multiple networks managed by the cluster, it appears. Essentially, I did an ifconfig addif to add the network, and explicitly set an appropriate netmask. I also put an entry in /etc/hosts, though I haven't done anything with IPMP. The cluster in question doesn't have multiple public interfaces (two private, one sunray, one public).
I suspect the netmask may have been the cause of my earlier troubles. Since we didn't have an entry for these networks in /etc/netmasks, it probably defaulted to 255.0.0.0, somehow making it such that when the cluster software unconfigured the managed address, it somehow partially unconfigured the permanent address and made things go pretty nuts.
I'm still interested in hearing what you've done to get it to work, however, in case I've missed something.

Hyper-V cluster validation report "Found duplicate physical address" on nic team interfaces.
I recently built a Windows 2012 Hyper-V cluster with 5 nodes. The validation report shows “duplicate physical address” error (error text pasted below).
The hardware: HP BladeSystem – servers are BL460c blades, in a c7000 enclosure, connected to HP Virtual Connect switches.
Each server has 2 physcal nics, teamed in Windows. In the NIC Teaming console, I created the following Team Interfaces and assigned each a VLAN ID:
“Team1” (the default team)
“Team1 - VLAN 204 – Management”
“Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB”
“Team1 - VLAN 211 -Exchange DAG Replication”
I also created 2 HV Virtual Switches. Neither one allows management interface to share. They are assigned to “Team1” and “Team1 - VLAN 211 -Exchange DAG Replication” respectively.
Therefore, in Network Connection, I see the 2 physical Ethernet nics, and 4 “virtual” nics. Only 2 of them have IP addresses assigned: Management and HB. These are the two that the validation wizard complains
about.
The MAC address is not configurable in the NIC Teaming console, so I don’t see a way to resolve this error, except to use separate physical nics. I don’t want to do that because a) I would lose the benefits of
the bandwidth aggregation that Virtual Connect provides, and b) When creating an Interface on a Team in Windows, it looks like it ALWAYS gives it the same MAC address, so that should be a supported configuration.
Everything works just fine, and there are no other errors or IP conflicts or anything else. But I really want to fix it because I don’t know what unknown problems this may be causing.
From the Cluster Validation report:
Found duplicate physical address 10-60-4B-A9-4A-30 on node Cluster201.OurDomain.local adapter
Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster201.OurDomain.local adapter
Team1 - VLAN 204 - Management.
Found duplicate physical address F0-92-1C-13-3C-2C on node Cluster202.OurDomain.local adapter
Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster202.OurDomain.local adapter

Found duplicate physical address 68-B5-99-C1-7E-9C on node Cluster210.OurDomain.local adapter
Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster210.OurDomain.local adapter

Found duplicate physical address 3C-4A-92-DE-1E-74 on node Cluster211.OurDomain.local adapter VC-Team - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster211.OurDomain.local adapter
VC-Team - VLAN 204 - Management.
Found duplicate physical address 68-B5-99-C0-3D-50 on node Cluster212.OurDomain.local adapter
Team1 - VLAN 212 - 2012HB and node Cluster212.OurDomain.local adapter
Team1 - VLAN 204 - Management.
Thanks!
DanHi Dan,
"It turns out that both hosts had the same default MAC address ranges for their virtual switches. Since the host vNICs were attached to the virtual switch on each host they received the first couple of MAC addresses from the switches.
For details please refer to following link:

Hope this helps

I have an older s3 that is off-network, How can I get the kit kat update on my s3?
I have a "retired" Galaxy S3 that I am keeping as a spare- The Kit Kat update supposedly has been available since 6/20, but I cannot get the software on my off-network phone to update- even though is is connected by wi-fi. I spent about a half hour chatting on-line with tech support Monday, 6/23, who assured me that is would update over wi-fe- although I have NOT been able to do so yet. I went into the Verizon store yesterday, and the woman I spoke to there told me all I had to do was swap SIM cards with my active phone, then casually mentioned that if I did that, it would void the warranty on my new phone by taking it off-network. Great, just what I would want to do...
I am seriously considering re-activating it for a couple hours, just to get it updated, then deactivating it again. It would seem there should be an easier way.Thank you for the prompt reply, but still unsatisfying. I spent a couple hundred dollars for this phone less than 2 years ago (not to mention the $600 for the S5 off-contract a couple months ago) and you are telling me that I have to void the warranty or open a new data-service line to get the proper support for my Verizon-branded device? At this point the S3 is off warranty and primarily used on wi-fi- I could just as well root it and run custom ROMs I suppose- nothing to lose at this point, since the company that sold it to me won't even help to keep it up-to-date. I don't mean to sound like a whiner, but this is not what most would consider good customer support.

Windows 7 hangs and switches off network access
We are running a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit operating system as our server.
About on 30 minute intervals the computer hangs and switches off network access.
If the computer is in this state and you try and access it from another computer nothing happens.
While in this state you can see the desktop indicating that it's not in sleep mode.
The problem is rectified by click the mouse on the computer.
It has not gone into a sleep mode as everything on the power options is set to never.
Please help?

Could you plaese share more information about "switches off network access" with us? I don't quite understand this situation
Please also check the event viewer to collect related information about this issue when you re-use the Windows 7.
Meanwhile, Please update the driver for network adapter or reinstall for a test.

How to reset the network IP address from terminal/command line in Mac OSX?
Do anyone knows how to set the network IP address from terminal/command line in Mac OS X?
how about a GUI, ever heard of a GUI? it's this really neat thing, where you don't have to worry about remembering long strings of text to do something. Mac OS X actually has a rather decent one (that was sarcasm by the way, Mac is the best) you could have it done in like 30 sec, if you use the network pane of system preferences.

Bandwidth Calculation based on Network IP Address on SNMP Cisco 3750
Dear All,
Instead of getting bandwidth calculation on cisco switch via snmp for total in and out or based on port, is it possible to get the calculation of bandwidth for in and out for the C Class IP on the network ? That mean i can get the calculation for each of my network IP address from the Cisco, what i'm doing now is to get from my bridge server and i run the iptables and some bash script and also MRTG
Please advice. TQHi Abhi,
you're welcome. Thanks for rating & marking as answered!
I have CISCO 6503 box also with me. Could you please confirm if feature would be supported on 6503 ethernet ports or not?
Have a look at the Release Notes:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SXF/native/release/notes/features.html#wp2800031
"New Software Features in Release 12.2(18)SXF2
Support with Supervisor Engine 2 for these features, which are already supported with other Supervisor Engines:
- IP unnumbered for VLAN-SVI interfaces
-VLANs over IP unnumbered sub-interfaces"
I have to say I've never done this so far on a c6500 but I think you can rely on the RN.

Phaser 3250DN drops off network after printing one or two pages
I have a Phaser 3250DN printer that has started dropping off the network after switched on and printing one or two pages. If I power cycle the printer, it comes back online, but then drops off the network again almost immediately so I can't print any more pages. The printer fails to respond to pings while in this state. The printer is 4 years old but has had >extremely< light usage. We've printed about one thousand pages total and is only turned on when we want to print something so most of the time it's physically powered off.
Network drop-offs can occur for a variety of reasons and be triggered by a variety of causes. You may want to make sure you are using the latest software release on the product, as well as check the network firewall configuration settings. In addition, sometimes disabling unused networking protocols can reduce traffic the device is exposed to and ease the burden if traffic volume is what is shutting down the NIC.
Another thing to consider would be the network topography itself; make sure the device is on a subnet exposed to minimal broadcast/multicast traffic.
Finally, you can verify the device itself is physically functional by testing it with a laptop and crossover cable. If the drop-off behavior occurs while connected directly to another single computer, it may be indicative of an issue with the main board or hard drive.
You may also find additional support articles at the following link: Phaser 3250 KB - http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-3250/support/enus.html
I hope this helps.
Have a great day. -
Network ip address keeps changing and for some reason I can't find the right settings. The diagnostics says to check with my network administrator, but idk whom that is being at a motel and all. I have made. New locations, & changed the ipv4 address. Help plz
Hmmm, is Network set to using DHCP?
Go to System Preferences
Click Network
Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
Choose “By default, join: Preferred networks”
Select your access point and Remove your access point with the minus button.
Launch your keychain access in Utilities and delete your access point keychain entry.
Reboot
Go back to the “By default, join:” page and click the plus this time to add your access point. Enter the correct password, save, reboot.
Instead of joining your network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed -
2- 3G Iphones, One reads "off network"
I have two 3G Iphones sitting side by side on the desk.. one reads Att&t, the other "off network".. Basially it just changed to the off network setting and I dont know why. This phone hasnt left a literal 2 block area in a year. Why would it go "off network" and is there a way to get it to change towers? Tryed rebooting etc.. pretty much everything but a factory reset. Device error possible?
Update: New Sim card (that I had to drive 220 miles to get) fixed this issue for about 30 minutes, then phone went back off network.
Took the sim card out of the other 3G phone and it went back to ATT&T and stayed there.
Took a sim card out of a Blackberry as well, the phone stayed on ATT&T as well...
So did I get 2 bad sim cards in a row? Is it the device... ***... -

HELP: Cannot send mail when off network??
Hi we have set up the mail server on our Leopard server to host mail for our domain, we can successfully recieve and send mail when clients on on our internal network, and when off network can send as well. But when a client is not on the internal network (e.g. StarBucks or at home), they can not send mail using our server, even when on VPN. We have selected to use authentication, and the connection doctor in mail shows it is able to log in and connect with the server. any ideas?
I see it's been a month with no on-line response to your problem from Apple or anybody. That may indicate there isn't one that works 100%. I am having the exact same problem with all of the same companies. Add to it that I cannot get e-mail on my PC at home/office when the I-phone is turned on. I too have been in contact numerous times with Charter and Verizon, and have received zero return phone calls from either when promised. It seems that many people have these problems, but so far nobody can fix them? And I paid for this phone? I never thought I'd be at a point where I would consider returning to my Blackberry.

"Not Responding" when opening Captivate v4 off network
My work laptop was re-imaged with Windows 7 last week. IT reinstalled my Technical Communicator Suite. Captivate works fine when connected to the network. However, off network is another story. The rest of the suite also works off network. I have installed the updates, changed compatibility, verified the application is installed on my C drive. On my last test attempt, I received a Runtime error 217 @004P5C78. Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks!
Hi Rick,
I only get this sort of delay with Captivate.
I have turned off the "auto update" checker option some time ago, so now I wonder if it is possible to turn off the area you highlighted...the flash gizmo that checks the Adobe server?
I reckon that is what is causing the problem.
If it cannt be turned off, then I will have to ask my IT (unhelpful) help desk to take a look "behind the scenes" to see what is happening and where the blockage is....but I know already where that will get me.
Cheers,
