Cluster Validation Fails on List iSCSI Host Bus Adapters

I have an 8 Node SQL Failover Cluster.
This cluster has been in service for quite some time now, suddenly the Cluster Validation is failing...
When it gets to the "List iSCSI Host Bus Adapters" (which we do no use on any of these nodes) it fails with the error:
"An error occurred while executing the test. There was an error getting information about the iSCSI controllers installed on the nodes. There was an error retrieving information about the iSCSI host bus adapters from node 'node1'. Invalid class "
The test is not performed on any of the other nodes, it just fails.
This is causing a problem when trying to extend SQL to some of the newer nodes that have been added.
I have tried evicting and readding nodes, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling failover clustering, among other things.
I did notice that on node7, if I attempt validation, and ONLY mention node7, the test will complete on that box only.
Again, we do not even use iSCSI, this is a Fibre Channel cluster.  It's just the attempt by the validation wizard to list the iSCSI Host Bus Adapters that do not exist, that is failing....
Any thoughts?  I did see a similar post which mentioned having a problem listing Fibre Channel adapters that sounded like the exact same error, but there was no resolution there either...

  • Windows Server 2012 Cluster Validation Failing On List All Potential Cluster Disks

    I'm in the process of setting up a new cluster using Windows Server 2012 with a view to migrate from our existing 2008 R2 cluster.  I am having problems validating the storage and the wizard keeps failing on the List All Potential Cluster Disks
    test (which causes all the other storage tests to be cancelled).
    I'm getting the following error:
    Failed while verifying removal of any Persistent Reservation on physical disk 19ba99a4 at node RC-HYPERV-3.riddlesdown.local.
    When I look in validation report, disk 19ba99a4 is the management LUN (Access LUN 31 as termed by the storage software).
    Looking on my 2008 R2 cluster this doesn't appear in Disk Management.
    Any ideas how I can get rid of it or the error that it is causing?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
    I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.

  • Failing "List Services Information" Cluster validation test

    Hi
    I'm building a 2 node Windows 2008 SP2 Cluster. I've setup the SAN Disks, NIcs etc and am running the cluster validation tests. However this always fails on the "List Services Information" Test with the following error statement:
    "An error occurred while executing the test. There was an error getting information about the running services on the nodes. There was an error retrieving information about the Services from node '<Server FQDN>'. Object reference not set to an
    instance of an object.
    Note: I replaced the actual server fqdn with <Server FQDN>
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I know it is not a SQL cluster but you could still have a try with steps below as a workaround. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953748/en-us
    •For an integrated failover Add-Note setup, run the following command on each node that is being added:
    Setup /SkipRules=Cluster_VerifyForErrors /Action=InstallFailoverCluster
    •For an advanced or enterprise installation, run the following command:
    Setup /SkipRules=Cluster_VerifyForErrors /Action=CompleteFailoverCluster
    •If you receive this validation failure when you add a node to an existing failover installation, run the following command on each node that is being added:
    Setup /SkipRules=Cluster_VerifyForErrors /Action=AddNode

  • Failed Cluster Validation Wizard - Active Directory

    Hi All,
    I have a problem creating a cluster that has just got me stumped.
    I've created two other clusters at two other sites with exact same hardware and configuration. All worked fine at those location.
    For this third location, the cluster build is not going so well.
    I have 2 x Dell server for a 2 node cluster, and a Dell SAN. There are iSCSI HBAs and switches for iSCSI and a flat network for the LAN and Management on another switch. The heartbeat is connected via a directly connected cable.
    The nodes are running 2012 R2 Core, with latest patches (April 2015).
    Firewall is disabled by Group Policy, both on servers and Domain Controller.
    The Domain Controller at this site is on the local LAN.
    On each future cluster node, the LAN cards can ping the Domain Controller by name and address (using -S to verify the source address). On the DC it can also ping each LAN interface, again both by name and IP. Heartbeat NICs can similarly ping each other.
    Using a Management Server on a remote subnet (Domain Account, local admin of all concerned servers, except the DC, and having read/write on the target OU), the Cluster Validation Wizard fails, on one node only.
    I'm getting an error message on "System Configuration\Validate Active Directory Configuration" of:
    Connectivity to a writable domain controller from node DEN1NTHV02.mycorp.net could not be determined because of this error: Could not get domain controller name from machine DEN1NTHV02.
    Node(s) DEN1NTHV01.mycorp.net can reach a writable domain controller.
    Node(s) DEN1NTHV02.mycorp.net cannot reach a writable domain controller. Please check connectivity of these nodes to the domain controllers.
    The computer accounts are in the same OU, and both are enabled and have no (seeming) other problems.
    So, (1) does anyone have any idea, or (2) where can I find the verbose output text of the failed test?

    Re-check your IP configuration.  Ensure the only NICs with a gateway defined is the primary NIC that will be used for client access.
    "a flat network for the LAN and Management on another switch. The heartbeat is connected via a directly connected cable."
    Just FYI.  Though a cross-over cable between the two nodes works for a two-node cluster, it is not recommended if there is even a chance of the cluster going beyond two nodes.
    Secondly, from your above statement, it sounds like you have the other, non-iSCSI networks plugged into a single switch.  That becomes a single point of failure.

  • List data validation failed when creating a new list item but does not fail when editing an existing item

    Dear SharePoint Experts,
    Please help.
    Why does my simple formula work in Excel but not-work in SharePoint?
    Why does this formula...
    =IF([Request Type]="Review",(IF(ISBLANK([Request Date]),FALSE,TRUE)),TRUE)
    ...work in Excel but fail when I try to use it in SharePoint?
    The intent of this formula is the following...
    If the field "Request Type" has the value "Review" and the field "Request Data" is blank then show FALSE, otherwise show TRUE.
    SharePoint saves the formula, but when a list item is saved where the formula is implemented, (under List Settings, List Validation), SharePoint does not, say anything other than that the formula failed.
    Note that the "list data validation failed" error only happens when I am creating a new item-- the formula above works just fine when one is trying to Save on the edit form.
    Can you help?
    Thanks.
    -- Mark Kamoski

    Dear Jason,
    I appreciate your efforts.
    However, it seems to me that this statement of yours is not correct...
    "If it meet the validation formula, then you can new or edit the item, otherwise, it will throw the 'list data validation failed' error, it is by design".
    I believe this is NOT the answer for the following reasons.
    When I create a new item and click Save, the validation error is "list data validation failed".
    When I edit an existing item and click Save, the validation error is "my custom error message" and this is, I believe, the way it needs to work each time.
    I think, at the core, the error my formula does not handle some condition of null or blank or other default value.
    I tried a forumla that casts the date back to a string, and then checked the string for a default value, but that did not work.
    I tried looking up the Correlation ID in the ULS when "list data validation failed" occurs, but that gave no useful information because, even though logging was set to Verbose, the stack trace in the error log was truncated and did not given any
    good details.
    However, it seems to me that SharePoint 2013 is not well-suited for complex validation rules, because...
    SharePoint 2013 list-level validation (NOT column-level validation) allows only 1 input for all the multi-field validation formulas in a given list-- so, if I had more than 1 multi-field validation rule to implement on a given list, it would need to be packed
    into that single-line-of-code forumla style, like Excel does. That is not practice to write, debug, or maintain.
    SharePoint 2013 list-level validation only allows 1 block of text for all such multi-field validation rules. So that will not work because I would have something like "Validation failed for one or more of the following reasons-- withdrawal cannot exceed
    available balance, date-of-birth cannot be after date-of-death,... etc". That will not work for me.
    The real and awesome solution would simply be enhancing SP 2013 so that column-level validation forumlas are able to reference other columns.
    But, for now, my workaround solution is to use JavaScript and jQuery, hook the onclick handler on the Save button, and that works good. The only problem, is that the jQuery validation rules run before any of the column-level rules created  with OOTB
    SP 2013. So, in some cases, there is an extra click for the enduser.
    Thanks,
    Mark Kamoski

  • Unexpected "Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListDataValidationException: List data validation failed."

    Steps to replicate (I suspect it can be replicated with any list, not just a survey):
    1. Create a survey
    2. Go to Survey Settings / Validation Settings, enter a formula and a user message.

  • List Data Validation failed error

    I'm getting the following error "List data validation failed." while trying to upload a document which already exists.
    My Document library settings : Enabled Version Settings (Major),
    Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited : YES,
    Validation Formula : =[End Date]>=TODAY()
    If I upload a new document  to the document library, everything is
    working fine. If I edit properties of the ListItem everything works fine. The system throws error only when I upload already existing document.
    If i make "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited : NO" , then everything is fine. But business requirement forces me to do checkout.
    Also if i change the Validation Formula : =[End Date]<=TODAY() , then everything works fine.

    Hey Jatin,
    unfortunately the check out before editing = true is against using the same document before overwrite.
    as long as this is a business needs, i advise you to make a user control to be your document library upload form
    while uploading the document, you can check this document out programmatically and the library settings will do the overwrite for you
    also the validation will be easier when you check it programmatically
    i hope this help, let me know if you need more clarifications

  • Hyper-V Guest Cluster Node Failing Regularly

    Hi,
    We currently have a 4-node Server 2012 R2 Cluster witch hosts among other things, a 3 node Guest Cluster running a single clustered file service.
    Around once a week, the guest cluster node that is currently hosting the clustered file service will fail.  It's as if the VM is blue screening.  That in itself is fairly anoying and I'll be doing all the updates and checking event log for clues
    as to the cause.
    The problem then is that whichever physical cluster node that is hosting the VM when it fails,  will not unlock some of the VM's files.  The Virtual machine configuration lists as Online Pending.  This means that the failed VM cannot be restarted
    on any other cluster node.  The only fix is to drain the physical host it failed on, and reboot.
    Looking for suggestions on how to fix the following.
    1. Crashing guest file cluster node
    2. Failed VM with shared VHDX requiring Phyiscal host reboot.
    Event messages for the physical host that was hosting the failed vm in order that they occured.

    Hi,
    I don’t found the similar issue, Does your cluster can pass the cluster validation? Does all your Hyper-V host compatible with Server 2012r2? Have you try to disable all your
    AV soft and firewall? Please rerun Storage validation on the Cluster in non-production hours, the cluster validation report will quickly locate the issue.

  • Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: The handle is invalid.

    I'm stuck here trying to figure this error out.
    2003 domain, 2012 hyper v core 3 nodes.  (I have two of these hyper V groups, hvclust2012 is the problem group, hvclust2008 is okay)
    In Failover Cluster Manager I see these errors, "Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason:  The handle is invalid."
    I restarted the host node that was listed in having the error then another node starts showing the errors.
    I tried to follow this site:  http://blog.subvertallmedia.com/2012/12/06/repairing-a-failover-cluster-in-windows-server-2012-live-migration-fails-dns-cluster-name-errors/
    Then this error shows up when doing the repair:  there was an error repairing the active directory object for 'Cluster Name'
    I looked at our domain controller and noticed I don't have access to local users and groups.  I can access our other hvclust2008 (both clusters are same version 2012).
    <image here>
    I came upon this thread:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/85fc2ad5-b0c0-41f0-900e-df1db8625445/windows-2012-cluster-resource-name-fails-dns-registration-evt-1196?forum=winserverClustering
    Now, I'm stuck on adding a managed service account (mas).  I'm not sure if I'm way off track to fix this.  Any advice?  Thanks in advance!
    <image here>

    Thanks Elton,
    I restarted 3 hosts after applying the hotfix.  Then I did the steps below and got stuck on step 5.  That is when I get the error (image above).  There
    was an error repairing the active directory object for 'Cluster Name'.  For more data, see 'Information Details'.
    To reset the password on the affected name resource, perform the following steps:
    From Failover Cluster Manager, locate the name resource.
    Right-click on the resource, and click Properties.
    On the Policies tab, select If resource fails, do not restart, and then click OK.
    Right-click on the resource, click More Actions, and then click Simulate Failure.
    When the name resource shows "Failed," right-click on the resource, click More Actions, and then click Repair.
    After the name resource is online, right-click on the resource, and then click Properties.
    On the Policies tab, select If resource fails, attempt restart on current node, and then click OK.

  • Cluster Resource Failed in Clustered Role

    Hello All.
    We’re running our VMs on the Cluster of Hyper-V hosts of Windows Server 2012 R2.
    We frequently encounter the following error in the Cluster Events:
    “Cluster resource 'Virtual Machine VM123' of type 'Virtual Machine' in clustered role 'VM123' failed.
    Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart
    it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.”
    VM123 is the hostname of VM. We encounter this error for most of the VMs, however the VMs keep running in the cluster.
    Anybody please guide me what this error mean.
    Please help and advise.
    Regards,

    Hi Hasan Bin Hasib,
    Since in your description there don’t have others detail clue, in your current information we can get the VM123 resource at failed status, you can first run the cluster validation

  • Attaching remote event receiver to a list on host web.

    We have an O365 Sharepoint 2013 site. I am trying to create a remote event receiver and attach it to a list on host web instead of appweb. Below are the links that I am referencing to do it:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/636058/Adventures-with-SharePoint-2013-Remote-Event-Recei
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/knewton/archive/2012/12/11/defining-content-in-host-web-from-an-app-for-sharepoint.aspx
    They are using 'AppInstalled' event to accomplish this. The method is as follows: get the client context of the host web, get our target list in the host web, get the service url of the remote event receiver using code below:
    string remoteUrl = string.Format("https://{0}/OurRemoteEventReceiver.svc",
      OperationContext.Current.Channel.LocalAddress.Uri.DnsSafeHost + "/services");
    and then use it while adding an event receiver to our target list. A different way of obtaining this remoteUrl is shown in the second post.
    When I try to do this I get the below error:
    CorrelationId: eb837c4c-c434-4067-99f4-ad9b38e30d82
    3>        ErrorDetail: The remote event receiver callout failed.

    3>        SourceName: Common App Deployment
    Also, the 'Grant permissions to the App' window appears when I hit Deploy and immediately goes away before I hit or even see the 'Trust it' button. Then, after a while I get the above error in output window. This happens whenever I add the 'AppEventReceiver.svc'
    by selecting 'AppInstalled' property to True and then write any code(or even not write any code) in it that targets the host web. Any suggestions please?

    Hi,
    We can add the code snippet below in the "App Installed" event handler.
    EventReceiverDefinitionCreationInformation eventReceiver = new EventReceiverDefinitionCreationInformation();
    eventReceiver.EventType = EventReceiverType.ItemAdding;
    eventReceiver.ReceiverAssembly = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().FullName;
    eventReceiver.ReceiverClass = "OurRemoteEventReceiver";
    eventReceiver.ReceiverName = "OurRemoteEventReceiver";
    eventReceiver.ReceiverUrl = "http://xxx/OurRemoteEventReceiver.svc";
    eventReceiver.SequenceNumber = 1000;
    Web web = SPutil.getSP("http://sub.domain.com/sites/apps");
    List targetList = web.Lists.GetByTitle("Host Web List");
    targetList.EventReceivers.Add(eventReceiver);
    web.Context.ExecuteQuery();
    You will need to include an additional .NET class as well:
    using System.Reflection;
    If the problem still existed, I  suggest to debug your remote event receiver project to find the cause of the error. The link below for your reference:

  • Process_order api - Validation Failed for Field Bill To

    I am relatively new to the EBS world and I'm having some issues with calling the OE_Order_Pub.Process_order API. When I call this API I am getting a return error of "Validation failed for field - Bill To".
    For a background...I have an APEX application where users can choose parts from a small part master list to add to an existing order. The existing order will not have a status of Closed or Cancelled and there will be atleast 1 line in the order before the new parts are added. The parts will be added as new lines to the order with some of the new line data defaulting to the same information as the first line. I am using EBS version 12.1.3 with a multi-org setup. It seems that the orders under one org (id=3) are working fine, but another org(id=569) they never work and keep getting the error. I am setting the context to the org of the order and initializing the apps user information with the responsibility "Order Management Super User".

    Hello,
    Try the following
    1) Check if any processing constraints are applied to customer/location
    2) Try to create a new customer and associate internal location.
    Create a new order to reproduce the issue
    Thanks

  • VPD "Lost" after validation fails

    Hi,
    We have a custom in house VPD. In the application security section, under VPD, we call a procedure which sets our security context client_id in order to be used to make context references within secure views.
    In our page we have a simple select list which is run against a "secure" view. Once the user selects a value they hit continue to go on. A validation is put in place to make sure that a value has been selected.
    If the validation fails, we go back to the page and the validation error message displays (as it should) however the select list has no values. After doing a lot of testing, references to any view that uses the VPD returns no values when a validation fails.
    We've done some test and it appears that the following happens:
    - On a page submit the VPD function gets called (as per the application security / vpd)
    - Validations are performed
    - If validation fails, run: dbms_session.clear_identifier;
    - Load the page along with the appropriate error messages.
    Is this correct? Is their anyway around this?
    We have tried to set an application process to run before header which would run the same function as that called in the VPD section, however the process isn't run when a validation fails.
    Thank you,
    Martin

    APEX sets client identifier to: APP_USER:APP_SESSION. CLIENT_INFO is set to just APP_USER. Try the following query from the SQL Workshop as well as a region on a page to give you a better idea of what APEX sets:select sys_context('USERENV','CURRENT_SCHEMA') CURRENT_SCHEMA,sys_context('USERENV','SESSION_USER') SESSION_USER,
           sys_context('USERENV','MODULE') module,sys_context('USERENV','ACTION') action,
           sys_context('USERENV','CLIENT_INFO') CLIENT_INFO, sys_context('USERENV','CLIENT_IDENTIFIER') CLIENT_IDENTIFIER
      from dualI would probably include the IP Address of your HTTP Servers in the policy to make sure it's not someone connecting from SQL*Plus: sys_context('USERENV', 'IP_ADDRESS')

    Getting exactly the same errors when trying to implement OCFS2 on a VMWARE solution

    o2cb_ctl: Configuration error discovered while populating cluster ocfs2. None of its nodes were considered local. A node is considered local when its node name in the configuration maches this machine's host name.
    Stopping cluster ocfs2: OK
    And from ocfs2console we get the following errors when trying to add our node to the configuration
    o2cb_ctl: Unable to access cluster service while creating node
    Could not add node raclinux1
    Any one got it to work on VMWARE?
