Nope....that wouldn't work. We can't install a 64bit software on a 32bit OS/Kernel, as such you can install 32bit on a 64bit OS. Your problem seems to something different than what I initially thought. Did you attempt to create an SR with Oracle Support to get their take on this...

  • Solaris 10x86 06/06 HP DL585 G1 with Grub issues.

    Hello,
    I'm trying to understand why Solaris 10x86 06/06 hang just after grub on HP DL585 G1!
    If I add the option "-v" (kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot -v) then the system will boot up and work fine, without error on screen (Is there a way to redirect the screen output in a file?).
    I tryed to disable ACPI (as I read previous post but without success),
    My question will be why the option "-v" make the system boot up ? is there a better way to sort it out?
    Thx

    Durring the install process I have already the last HP driver, which was a issue.

    This would not be a solution because it's already done.

  • WebStack 1.5 - Apache stops responding - Solaris 10x86 Zone

    I've got a Solaris 10x86 installation with multiple zones. Webstack is installed in the global but only one zone is using the Apache as a generic web server. Other zones are quite happy and fast (could mail servers, simple ftp server).
    The web server however is driving me nuts. It simply stops responding for no apparent reason. Nothing in the apache logs, error, virtual hosts, nothing in the system logs. It just sits there when you are using one of the websites until you stop and restart it.
    I thought perhaps this was a memory issue, but we added more memory to the box and it acts the same. I would expect to see some sort of error but none are displayed.
    I currently have a script that connects to a site on a regular basis to see if it is still responding and if not, restarts the Apache server (includes MySQL as well), but I am at a loss why this is doing this.
    The previous box was very old and used Xampp instead (very very old) and never had this problem.
    If I can't get this to stabilize, I will have to put something else on it (Xampp again perhaps?)..
    Anyone else see this before or have any suggestions. BTW Truss on the master pid of the Apache doesn't really show anything interesting.

    Seems I found the reason....
    http://sysadminsjourney.com/content/2009/09/01/apache-2212-2213-and-solaris-10-bug-nastiness
    Don't know for sure as the article doesn't state if it was Sparc or x86, but it sure sounds like it. This is older software so getting a fix appears to not be favorable. I really can't rebuild the system until after the first of the year.
    No idea if the person mentioned (Jeff Trawick ), would still have the work around .so file.
    Sad that many of the Sun links are gone or redirected into Oracle neverland...

  • Solaris 10x86 fdisk Active partions for Raid 1

    Purchased X2270 with 1TB internal disk (c1t0d0). Layed out partitions during completion of Soalris 10x86 install. fdisk shows a Diagnotstic partion of 4 cylinders (starting at cyl 1) and the remaining partition is an ACTIVE Solaris2 partition (starting at cyl 5) for 60790 cylinders. Bought a 2nd 1TB internal disk. Reconfig booted after installing 2nd disk and format sees it - c1t1d0 and fdisk shows NO partions on this disk. My question - I'm going to mirror 1st disk to 2nd for all Solaris partitions for high availability. I know I have to fdisk 2nd disk before I can create like partions as are on 1st disk. Should I create 1 Solaris2 fdisk partition on 2nd disk starting at cyl 5 for same 60790 cylinders and leave the 1st 4 cylinders unused do to no Diagnotic partion on the new disk?
    Also, Should the new Solaris2 fdisk partition on new disk be Activated or can only 1 Solaris2 fdisk partion be active on a 10x86 system at any given time (given if I'm going to mirrror the "/" ufs partion between both disks)?

    abrante,
    Thanks for the quick reply. I went ahead and fdisk-ed the 2nd drive and made it the ACTIVE partition so I guess you need 1 ACTIVE fdisk partition per disk. I also followed your advice and made fdisk partition start at cylinder 5 just like 1st disk and then formatted it same way as 1st disk and went ahead and setup mirrors OK. Everything is working! I found a sun doc - 819-2789 for x86 that had steps to Raid-1 root that I followed to the "T" without trouble. The other partitions were standard mirroring steps I've used with SPARC boxes.
    Thansk for the help!

  • 10gR2 RDBMS required packages - Solaris patch 112760 is not installed

    Hi,
    Run RDA before 10gR2 installation:
    Test [ FAILED ] : Patch 112760 is not installed = adequate
    Trying to apply this patch:
    # patchadd -d /export/home/~/patches/112760-18
    Checking installed patches...
    One or more patch packages included in
    112760-18 are not installed on this system.
    Patchadd is terminating.
    From the readme file, it is trying to apply a patch for a C compiler, which you don't have on this system.
    Keywords: c 5.5 security
    Synopsis: C 5.5: Patch for S1S8CC C compiler
    Date: Jun/22/2005
    Unbundled Product: Sun ONE Studio 8 Compiler Common C
    Not sure why oracle would require this patch when the system doesn't have a licensed compiler on it. Can anybody explain why this is the case?
    According to Oracle, patch 112760 for Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 is required for:
    PL/SQL native compilation, Pro*C/C++, Pro*FORTRAN, Oracle Call Interface, Oracle C++ Call Interface, Oracle XML Developer's Kit (XDK).
    Unfortunately I am not sure if I should be concerned with this particular patch.
    Please advice.

    Hi,
    I have many ORA-7445 in RMAN ( CATALOG DATABASE ) with native database.
    The DATABASE is also in AL32UTF8 character set.
    I received the same stupid support answers.
    Can you made the following command on the core.
    plimit process_id
    and
    pmap on the core file.
    For an obvous raison the stack is limitied to 32M on solaris it's part of the Oracle excutable
    Check the stack process limit:
    plimit 27135 | egrep '27135|stack'
    27135: oracleariane (LOCAL=NO)
    stack(kbytes) 32768 65536
    plimit 4335 | egrep '4335|stack'
    4335: /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0_64/db_1/bin/tnslsnr listener_ariane -inheri
    stack(kbytes) 65536 65536
    Oracle executable limite the stack size to 32M even it can grow up to 65M.
    Its father listener has n't set this limit in the case 65M.
    FACT THAT IS THE LIMIT:
    pmap core | grep stack
    FFFFFFFF7E000000 32768K rw--- [ stack ]
    That is the same as the shadow process limit.
    FACT THAT THE SETRLIMIT IS USED N ORACLE
    nm $OH/bin/oracle | grep setrlimit
    [135743] | 106048704| 0|FUNC |GLOB |0 |UNDEF |setrlimit
    Stupid test case:
    cat e.c
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <string.h>
    int fct( int nbr ) {
    char buffer [ 65536 ] ;
    ( void ) printf ( "%08d\n" , nbr ) ;
    ( void ) ( memset ( ( void *) buffer , (int) 255 , sizeof ( buffer ) ) ) ;
    ( void ) fct ( nbr + 1 ) ;
    int main ( int agrc , char * argv [] , char * arge [] )
    (void ) fct ( 0 ) ;
    return ( 0 ) ;
    cc -o e e.c
    ulimit -s 2000
    ./e
    00000000
    00000001
    00000030
    Segmentation Fault(coredump)
    pmap core | grep stack
    2000K rw--- [ stack ]
    That is the point.

  • Solaris 10x86 and grub, bootloading and how to add new disk

    In the latest version of Solaris 10 (1/06) it now uses grub to do the bootloading.
    I cannot get grub to create a new partition on my new second disk.
    BIOS sees my disk.
    At first "format" would not see the disk. I ran "reboot -- -r" to fix this.
    Now, I go into the grub shell with /boot/grub/bin/grub and attempt to run "partnew" -- the grub command to add partitions. It fails.
    One of the arguments for 'partnew' is TYPE. However, I've googled my fingers to death, and nowhere can I find out what number I should use in type. The grub docs only say it should be a number between 0 and 0xff.
    I want to multi-partition the second disk for linux/solaris/and or windows.
    What if I take out disk1 containing solaris, move disk2 into that slot, then insert the windows installation cd and let it partition the disk.? Then put it back in slot 2....

    Why are you trying to partition the disk with 'grub'? Since you've completed the installtion you can use 'fdisk' directly.
    However I wouldn't bother. I'd just let the installer of whatever OS you're putting on do the right thing. Either Linux or Windows could partition it as you're installing.
    Then you could go back and edit grub if you needed to so that they would boot properly.
    This page talks about multibooting some different operating systems. You dont need to use it as a recipe, but you might find some of the concepts handy.

  • Trouble when install solaris 10x86 on dell dimension 9100

    I just got my new dell dimension 9100 and I tried to install Solaris 10 on it but it didn't work. I could not type at all when the OS asked me what option do I want to install. It seems like the Solaris could not recognized the motherboard or something like that, that's why the keyboard didn't work. The new dell 9100 only has USB port, no ps/2 and other ports.
    Does anyone know how to resolve this?
    Much appreciate,
    -Andy

    Unfortunately I think it has to do with a combination of a buggy driver and/or buggy chipset - the 8400 had the same problems - same problem occurs on NetBSD as well.
    The best solution is to unplug the keyboard and re-connect it; IIRC, do it when the kernel is loading or just before, you'll see lights flicker on the keyboard when the USB module is initialising - it appears that is when things go all pear shaped.

  • Look for SFTP client for Solaris 10x86

    We need an SFTP client which supports logins with and without passwords for sending files to remote SFTP sites.
    Up until now, we have been using a combination of Perl, Expect and sftp command but need a better solution.
    Have been unable to install into Perl the SFTP modules (Lots of problems with SSHA packates) to use it directly without Expect.
    I see a few (very few) commercial packages like one from tectia.com but am looking for perhaps an open source solution.

    You should be able to use the scp command (which is a part of ssh client on solaris, linux or cygwin/windows) in conjunction with the key based authentication
    For example, if you want a scheduled job as user1 on machine1 to be able to upload a file to a directory owned by user2 on machine2:
    On machine1, run ssh-keygen as user1 to create the RSA key pair (do not enter as password .)
    On machine2, as user2, cd .ssh, add user1's public key to the authorized_keys file.
    e.g.
    ssh-rsa dWU+bihN7kYFYoQ5ycNiIl2urtzdS5GNcCtMSz
    Nykgylo4ccfoAhJhAOVS3htN6hTXk45O9xrpLFrC7BzAq
    aQiuuKTgxT0mOVmzFjTozwQIQmy9EUt= user1@machine1
    Also, update /etc/ssh/sshd_config with
    RSAAuthentication yes
    you will need to ssh from user1 to machine2 and as user2 to machine1 to make sure the known_hosts file for each user gets updated
