CNN video question

Hi,
Anyone else have issues watching CNN videos on there Mac?
It keeps telling me to download Windows Media Player 9, but I already have it.

Yes, I've never had any luck with their site on a mac, although there are a couple of people in the Safari forum who swear it works for them. Some people say it's better with firefox than Safari, but I'd rather just go to a site with more mac-friendly video, so I can't say.

Hi, I tried to watch cnn videos, windows media player upgraded to "9". the wmp opens but it does not play. Even tried it from firefox. Any suggestions?

Problems viewing CNN videos

Is it only me? With both Firefox and Safari, whenever I view a video on the CNN.com website, it is terrible. It just shutters and the audio is shaky. Even if I wait for the whole video to download before pressing play, I get the same problem. This has been happening for a long time, with many different versions of Firefox, starting in 2.x and still in 3.x. I never have any problems viewing YouTube video or any QuickTime videos, it is ONLY on the CNN.com website. I have contacted them several times (contact us) and complained, but I have never received a reply.
I just want to make sure it isn't my machine. I have a pretty good system with plenty of RAM, etc.

I've never had an problems viewing CNN video/audio on Safari 3.1.2 (Tiger 10.4.11).
In Safari, from the Menu Bar, select Help/Installed Plug-Ins and make sure you have the following plugin: Shockwave Flash 9.0 r151 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”. You can do a quick search of plugins by pressing Command + F in that plug in window and type in Flash in the search field. If it's there, it will be highlighed.
If not, go here and download the Safari Flash plugin: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
If you already have the Flash plugin, perhaps you need to do some maintenance on your Mac? If you don't have a disk utility to clean out caches, run routine maintenance and cleaning scripts... get Onyx here: http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html It's free, easy to download and install and use.
Also, check your available drive space as BDAqua suggested. Right or control click your MacintoshHD icon, then click: Get Info In the Get Info click the black arrow next to General so it faces down. You will see: Capacity and Available. Make sure your Mac has a minimum of 10% free disk space, 15% is better. Not enough disk space and video/audio, applications.. will crash/free... in general, erratic behavior.

I have iMac (Mavericks). I could no longer view CNN video clips after installing Adobe Flash Player update

Other users and guest account could still view the CNN clips but I can view the Ads and then just a black screen? Any suggestions ?

I uninstalled version 13 and installed the version 12 as they suggested. Did not work.
On my computer now I have three accounts.
1. Mine - Flash Player version 13 originally worked but after updating (as was suggested by onscreen prompt) it did not work with Safari. Uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Playaer version 12 also did not work.
2. Second computer user can still see CNN video clips in Safari. 'This user did NOT install the update to version 13.
3. Guest accoount still can see CNN video clips in Safari.
Any suggestions how to get back to the original configuration on my account. Unfortunately, I did not know about Time Machine and did not have it set up (have subsequently tried to set it up but cannot seem to be able to select a backup disk).
Any suggestions appreciated.

CNN videos not loading in firefox

Absolutely none of the CNN videos play in firefox since 1 month. At first I thought it was something wrong with my computer. I have run all virus scans, ensured Flash player is updated and enabled all plugins. Still nothing works. I am also noticing Firefox stopped loading videos on many other sites. I have even disabled ADBlock Plus (even removed it) thinking that maybe the problem. I have the latest firefox installed V.37 still having problems.
I have been using FireFox since version 5 and now I am pretty much fed up of the garbage you guys are developing with the new versions. It maybe time to move away from FireFox now.

But tell me are u hardware acceleration enabled within Flash player or in browser because they may also experience issues with video.

You need to update or reinstall Flash Player:
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:

You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

Why can't I open CNN videos? I can using Internet Explorer.

When I visit CNN' s website using Firefox I can't open video. If I go back to Internet Explorer I can opn CNN videos with no problem.

If you use extensions like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

Cnn video/ads: adsa play-news video doesn't

I have not been able to find the postings where i left a comment related to
posts about CNN videos not playing but the ad portion did, so I am posting it here. I surmised that CNN may have done something on purpose to push users into PAID programing....am putting money where mouth is...signed up for PIPELINE.......all videos work fine now........wellllll, am I surprised.......NOT!

Safari and CNN video - Empty Cache fix

I have problems with Safari 5 (latest and previous versions) with CNN video being choppy or stalled, but audio continues normally.
This happens quite a few times during a week and while the video is playing, I can click on empty cache and it immediately starts to play normally.
Any ideas?

Sorry.. forgot to mention this is on a MacBook Pro - 2.6Ghz - 4GB ram - MacOS 10.6.6

Firefox 28.0, windows 8.1, CNN videos won't play - show blank screen

This only happens with cnn videos. Same problem when using safe-mode. Internet explorer runs these videos ok. Firefox seems to quit before it gets to the video window.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Access denied on CNN video

I can no longer view video news clips on CNN. The player still loads and the advertising video plays fine but before the news clip loads I get a stop sign with an Access Denied message. I haven't changed anything (other than the security updates). I did try repairing permissions without results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I've tried Firefox, Internet Exporer, Safari, and Camino; CNN video will not play, I get an error message sometimes that says "Access Denied", other times it just continues to load and never finishes. I get this with my OS 10.4 laptop. With my OS 10.3 eMac video plays just fine. I think its a 10.4 issue.

My new and expensive imac came with a preinstalled link to the cnn new site. How do I play the video footage on this site, it just plays on every other computer I own.

CNN in it's infinite wisdom provides much of it's video content in Windows Media Format. You CAN run the Mac version of WMP, but it doesn't seem to have a plug-in for Safari, and the streaming video they use won't open in the WMP application standalone player. Oddly enough, for some of their content, they use QuickTime. My advise - complain to CNN.

Apple TV Streaming Video Question?

I don't know where to post this question but seeing ITunes is part of this query I will try here. I have a combination wired/wireless home network. Two laptops, one a IBook G4, and a Dell desktop. The Laptops are wireless while the desktop is wired. I have a Linksys wired/wireless router for this configuration. I have a passing interest in the Apple TV but I have everything related to ITunes on the desktop as that is my primary computer. My wife and daughter use the laptops. None of the computers are configured to communicate with each other. They just have access to the internet via the router and cable modem. My question is this...If I want to stream from the desktop to the Apple TV how would I do it? Is the fact the the router can do wireless enough and it would automatically sync to the Apple TV or do I have to modify my network for sharing? I question whether the two units will see each other without some changes in my network. If so, how do I do that? I thought about getting a USB wireless adapter for the desktop but I don't want to have to keep disconnecting the Ethernet cable every time I go wireless just to stream the video. I also hate to buy an adapter in addition to the Apple TV. Just an added cost. Any thoughts on this.

64bit os video questions

I've put 2003 64bit on an old ide drive. Used the workstation set up guide from another thread-- video accelerated, dx9b in place. Audio works, lan works (thx for the driver links) -- picked up satellite internet through ICS on another machine (W2K) automatically. But took a while to find the right security settings to let other puters access 2003. OS even correctly installed a logitec wireless joystick I forgot to unplug, without asking for any drivers! Oh, installed the via beta drivers.
A few questions/issues:
How can you tell if the via drivers installed? The via setup program lists audio codecs, but no others.
How can the OS video drivers work? Why don't they need to be 64bit?
I've installed nothing from ati for the 9700pro --- and get 5100 on 3dmark2003 (340). Two issues -- first, 3dmark shows direct x as version 6. I saw the thread about 64 bit vs regular dxdiag, but either way I try it, I still get dx6 in 3dmark, while it's dx9b in dxdiag????
Second, I toyed with agp aperture size in bios to see if the score could climb to other's posted levels. Systems reboots constantly (during the first windows startup screen -- the one that has the little bar moving across the screen) if set above or below 128???

Mpeg-2 flags, dvdsp, and 23.976 video question

just got through this thread:

and have a remaining question. i looked at the m2v file in
mpeg streamclip and i see:
Video Tracks:
224 MPEG-2, 720 × 480, 4:3, 23.976 fps, 7.70 Mbps, upper field first
is the 'upper field first' just a flag to tell how to deal with
this file? or is it stating that the file is interlaced with the
upper field first?
the intent is to make a progressive dvd at 23.976. the original
material is film, captured and edited at 23.976, progressive. the
material was captured off of an old projector, a frame at a time,
with a digital still camera, so the original has no interlacing
or fields. this went to make an image sequence, which was rendered
to a qt movie at 23.976, also progressive, no fields. it was then
output through compressor to the m2v file which produced the mpeg
streamclip stream info dialog quoted above.
