Code Photo Edges in CSS & HTML?

Can someone give me an idea of how I can code the navigation bar shown in the image below? I'm specifically having trouble figuring out how to implement the tiny edges of the navigation bar into CSS & HTML code.

a very thin border on the yellow container will do the rectangle, but IMHO, you will need  2 small graphics to acheive the "folded" ends.
Or do it as a single graphic backbround banner.

  • Centre not working in Dreamweaver Design View (CSS+HTML)- Preview OK- help!

    Hi there
    I am having a slight problem with DW which I have had before, and fixed, but I cant for the life of me remember how I fixed it.  So any help is much appreciated.
    I am producing a proof site for a client and cannot load it to be live just yet so sorry for any inconvience but I have taken some screen shots and will paste code/html.
    The site is currently sitting like this  in the design view of DW
    [IMG]http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb323/SKH_Design/Picture1-1.jpg[/IMG]
    Which it usually doesnt.... its usually centred within the design view!!
    this is how it sits in the preview
    [IMG]http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb323/SKH_Design/Picture2.png[/IMG]
    My main page container is margin left auto and so is the margin right.
    (please excuse my experiment with the drop shadow behind the main container)
    please excuse me if anything is messy, im pretty new to this!!
    Thanks, Sarah

    Can you say what that's doing? "float" is not a legal value for the leftmargin style, which requires an integer value.  But its use is deprecated in favor of CSS anyhow.
    Your pasted code is lacking a doctype or anything that would normally be above that stylesheet link.  Is that just an oversight or is it really not there?

  • Spry select list code to wire it to html data table SET column?

    I am making a page based on Figure 15-14, Pg 878, in David Power's book, "Dw CS4 with CSS, Ajax and PHP. I have two separate html data tables hidden in the page, one for the specialties drop down select list and the other for the teachers master/detail regions. These are populated with php and working well. The spry select list and master/detail regions are working great except for one issue. The column in my html data table that is being filtered ("Specialty" in my code = 'Category' in the book's example code) is a SET column (with possible value of 1, 2, 3, 4, and/or 5). Clicking on the drop down menu brings up the records with a single value beautifully. The result for records with multiple values is a spry error "Invalid row number: 0". After four different versionings and methods of messing with this, I still haven't a clue. Please help me with how to rewire the Spry select list code so that it will read the records that have multiple items in that column. I have included the code below.
    var data_set_teachers = new Spry.Data.HTMLDataSet(null, "teacher_data");
    data_set_teachers.gallery = '1';
    function chooseSet(dataSet, row, rowNumber)
    if (row["Specialty"] == data_set_teachers.gallery) {
       return row;
    return null;
    data_set_teachers.filter(chooseSet);
    function changeSet(set)
    data_set_teachers.gallery = set;
    data_set_teachers.filter(chooseSet);
    data_set_teachers.setCurrentRowNumber(0);
    var rows = data_set_teachers.getData();
    for (var i = 0; i < rows.length; i++) {
       if (rows[i]["Specialty"] == set) {
         data_set_teachers.setCurrentRowNumber(i);
         break;
    var data_set_specialties = new Spry.Data.HTMLDataSet(null, "specialty_data");

    Well I'll be damned!
    What's done in the sample app is, of course, the intuitively obvious choice and is exactly what I started out trying to do the first time round.
    But as I mentioned before, when I first tried it (yes: I'm pretty sure I set the "for" attribute on the inlineMessage components), I got the non-unique component id exception for the inlineMessage component(s) after adding the second (but not the first) row to the page.
    Anyway, after dragging my inlineMessages to the exact same position as those in the AppModel example, now things work fine (except I think I'd like a line break before the message and to change the row/column styles so the values and messages line up properly...the look is rather ugly in the AppModel example when there are validation messages displayed).
    Not sure, but I'm thinking maybe there was an issue with where the inline message markup was placed, my first time through, relative to the data table value bound component and the column header facet?
    I was using the application view drag 'n drop feature the first time round and dragged the inlineMessage component to the spot just below the data table value bound component and hence just above the column header facet. In the AppModel example, OTOH, the inline messages are placed just after the column header facet.
    Of course, I will now try to duplicate the original exception.
    If I can (and it is an issue with placement), I will post back some sort of bug report or RFE. Otherwise, I'll post back declaring what a bone head I've been...;-)
    Anyway, thanks for the quick response, v.

  • CSS/HTML rendering bug

    I created an HTML/CSS code for rendering some shapes. No Javascript. No images. Just plain HTML/CSS. The result displays a bug in an element, compared with Chrome. This is not the first time I'm getting this kind of errors in Firefox browsers. Other HTML/CSS elements created previously have rendering issues, but they seem fine in other browsers.
    You can verify it here: http://codepen.io/doublecaffe/pen/QwmZJB

    Any clue about this or fix in a future update?
    Thx!

    Looks fine here in Firefox 36.

  • Problems CSS/HTML

    Could you please tell me what to do.
    - I don't know how to remove the blue rectangles in the header.
    - there should be a white box for the other secondary info
    - I want a footer with the copyright in it
    - I also want a bit more space around the text in the primary content's box.
    Here's the URL:   http://lave0134.site44.com/dsn1568/Untitled-5.html
    thank you

    Footer: Change this:
    <footer class="bottom">
      <footer>
        <p>©Company name. All right eserved</p>
      </footer>
    </footer>
    to this:
    <div style="clear:both;"></div>
    <footer class="bottom">
        <p>©Company name. All right eserved</p>
      </footer>
    This will bring the footer to the bottom by clearing its floats.
    For header, I don't see the blue boxes. Do you mean an array of checkered looking gray lines?
    For secondary info, when the footer code is changed, the 'gray' background behind secondary info will be gone and you'll see only white.
    For more spacing for primary content, change this:
    <div class="left">
      <article>
      <h2>Primary Content</h2>
    to this:
    <div class="left">
      <article id="primarycontent">
      <h2>Primary Content</h2>
    And in your CSS file, add this:
    #primarycontent{
    padding: 10px;

  • Can't Edit Valid CSS/HTML page with DW

    I have a page that contains valid HTML and CSS but it is VERY

    nothing like the page when displayed in a browser. I can always

  • CSS/HTML issue with nav bar

    I'm trying to create a drop down navigation menu and under my 'Contact' button I want it to drop down and show my social media pages. I'm new to CSS so I am trying to understand where I went wrong...when I hover over 'Contact' it doesn't show anything. Here is my HTML and CSS code:
    HTML-
    <div class="nav">
        <ul id="nav">
            <li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Search Homes</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Buy</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Sell</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Blog</a></li>
      <li><a href="#">Meet My Team</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Contact</a>
                <ul>
                    <li><a href="#">Facebook</a></li>
                    </ul>
                </li>
            </ul>
      </div>
    CSS-
    .nav {
      padding-top: 20px;
      padding-bottom: 20px;
    #nav {
      list-style-type: none;
      margin: 0;
      padding: 0;
    #nav li {
      display: inline-block;
    #nav li a {
      padding: 10px;
      background-color: #fff;
      text-decoration: none;
      color: #333;
      transition: background .35s ease-in-out;
      -webkit-transition: background .35s ease-in-out;
      -o-transition: background .35s ease-in-out;
      -moz-transition: background .35s ease-in-out;
    #nav ul ul {
      display: none;
      position: absolute;
    #nav li a:hover {
      color: #333;
      background-color: #ccc;
      text-decoration: none;
    #nav li ul li {
      display: none;
      position: absolute;
    Thanks in advance!

    You don't actually have the CSS code for the dropdown action. Here is a very simple example you can work from:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <style type="text/css">
    body {
      font-family: 'Lucida Grande', 'Helvetica Neue',
    Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
      padding: 20px 50px 150px;
      font-size: 13px;
      text-align: center;
      background: #E3CAA1;
    ul {
      text-align: left;
      display: inline;
      margin: 0;
      padding: 15px 4px 17px 0;
      list-style: none;
      -webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15);
      -moz-box-shadow: 0 0 5px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15);

  • Flex and CSS / HTML

    Hi,
    I've got a Flex App interface in place. But having a lot of trouble with an CSS styled menu.
    I've pasted the HTML into an <mx:HTMLText> Component. Its recognised it as a list item, but the style is not pulling through.
    How do I achieve this? Did a google search and couldnt see much good for it really.
    Any help appreciated...
    HTML / CSS Code is attached.

  • JEditorPane, CSS, HTML problem

    Hi,
    I am using setEditorKit(new HTMLEditorKit()) with a JEditorPane to render / display a HTML file. The HTML has a stylesheet with it.
    The HTML file has a table in it. When I try to use the CSS values of
    TABLE.black-border { border-width:1px;
                         border-color:black;
                         border-collapse: collapse;
    tr.bb-test { border-width:1px;
                 border-color:black;
                 border-style:solid;
                 border-collapse: collapse;
    td.bb-medium { border-collapse: collapse;
                   border-width:1px;
                   border-color:black;
    <TABLE class=black-border WIDTH=100%>
    <TR>
    <TD class=bb-medium WIDTH=10%>TEST</TD>
    <TD class=bb-medium WIDTH=25%>TEST Number</TD>
    <TD class=bb-medium WIDTH=55%>POLICY Range</TD>
    <TD class=bb-medium WIDTH=10%>DEST DATE</TD>
    </TR>
    <TR class=bb-test>
    <TD class=bb-medium COLSPAN=4>item 1</TD>
    </TR>
    <TR class=bb-test>
    <TD class=bb-medium COLSPAN=4>item 2</TD>
    </TR>
    </TABLE>No matter what I set the border-width to (1, 10, 100), it always comes out as a thick border (same size). But in a web browser, 1, 10 or 100px border looks correct.
    When I try to set the individual borders (i.e. border-top-width ), the JEditorPane shows no border at all (as if it is invalid keyword).
    Does anybody know what the problem is? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Roger...

    Better use JTextPane ,where it supports CSS to some extends.
    (I have used in my case for rendering font size and font face).Try to
    use external stylesheet instead of internal ones. Here I paste some part of the code.
              kit = new HTMLEditorKit();//kit s ur HTMLEditorKit
              doc = (HTMLDocument) (kit.createDefaultDocument());
              this.setEditorKit(kit);//'this' is ur JTextPane object
              this.setDocument(doc);
              this.setContentType("text/html");
              css = kit.getStyleSheet();//css s the StyleSheet object
              css.addRule("body {align : left }");//replace this part by ur CSS attributes for Table rendering
              css.addRule("body {font-size : 14pt; }");
              css.addRule("body {font-family : Sans Serif; }");
              css.addRule("div {margin-top: -20pt; }");
              css.addRule("div {margin-bottom: -20pt; }");Let me know weather this works out.

    That would probably be the default margin/padding on your h1
    inside the
    'content2' <div>
    Zero out and see if the gap goes:
    #content2 h1 {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;

  • Photo edges and blurring background

    Hi, I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 that came with a scanner I purchased.  To date I have not used the software and the main reason I wanted to learn how to use it was because I make hand made cards, and I take a photo of each card and place it on my blog.  I would like to know how to soften the edges of the card and make the background blurry so you only see the card and not the other things in the background.  To see an example of what I am talking about here is the link to my blog:
    http://simplyhavingfunwithstamps5.blogspot.com/
    I would like to know if photoshop elements 3 is able to achieve this task, and if so what it is called.
    Where I live we don't have a bookstore, so I have been searching online (in Australia) for text and came across one called Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 in a Snap by Jennifer Fulton.  This text seems straight to the point type of text.  I wondered if anyone had any reviews on this text or if there is any that people could recommend.  I am not into jargon based text, but something simply written with pictures.  I have previously used visual text which I found to be also very good.
    Thank you.

    To blur the background:
    Select the card using the various selection tools, invert the selection, and apply a Gaussian blur as in this example from your blog:
    Since the card has straight sides I used the Polygonal Lasso to make the selection.
    To soften the edges of selection, feather the selection 1 or 2 pixels. You can enter the feather value either in the Feather box on the tools options bar before making the selection, or via Select > Feather after making the selection (I prefer the latter).
    If you want a solid background instead of a blur, there are severals ways to do this. Perhaps the most versatile is with a Solid Color fill layer. After you have made the inverted selection, click the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" icon in the Layers Palette, and choose Solid Color. This brings up the Color Picker where you click on the color you want. You can also create the fill layer via Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color.  The advantage of the fill layer is that you can easily change the color later: double-click the Layer thumbnail in the Layers Palette to bring up the Color Picker again and click your new color.

  • How do I fade photo edges to black?

    I am trying to figure out how to take a photo and fade the edges of the photo to blend in with a solid black background. Does anyone know how this is done?

    Welcome to the forum.
    As mentioned, several ways to do this.
    I like a bit of this, and a bit of that, and ending up using a Layer Mask, with the Vignetting in it.
    If your initial Image has your subject on the Background Layer, Dbl-click that, to convert it to a regular Layer, and either accept the default Layer Name, or choose something like "Image Layer." Add either a Color Layer (black) below that, or a New Layer, and Fill with black, then just create your Layer Mask, based closely on CurtY's instructions above. One can add a bunch of Filters to that Layer Mask, for different "looks."
    The Layer Mask, when you Save as an Unflattened PSD, can be edited and re-edited forever.
    Yes, several ways to do it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Characters inside content="" code disappears on saving .css

    If I open an existing css file with the code content=""; make some other changes and save the content it disappears.
    My guess is that this is some kind of language/character/utf related setting?
    I only have this problem in Dreamweaver CC, not in old versions of Dreamweaver.
    Before:
    .test {
              content:="";
    After save and reopen the file the line looks like:
    .test {
              content:="";
