Coexistence & Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP3 Unified Messaging to Exchange 2013 SP1 UM

Hello Experts,
We're doing Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade.
This upgrade also include Unified Messaging component which is currently working with Exchange 2010 SP3 and Lync 2013.
We have one dial plan and its SIP URI and Secured.
Looking for high level steps to plan coexistence and upgrade of Unified Messaging  from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 integrated with Lync 2013. I'll also appreciate tips on what kind of certificate and its Subject name(s).
Microsoft documentation is not very clear and I found it confusing for my scenario. Since I we don't want any downtime for UM users, looking for some help.
Thanks in advance for help.
-DK

Hello Hinte,
Thanks for the information. I have been to this article which explains fresh deployment but doesn't address coexistence and migration scenario.
I'm looking for high level steps only. Can anyone validate and suggest if I'm missing something!
1) Install new CAS+MBX Server
2) Move system mailbox as per MS documentation to Exchange 2013 MBX
3) On CAS+MBX Server Enabled internal CA trusted Cert for UM Services.Internal
CA certs contain only CAS+MBX server's FQDN only.UM services Startup Mode is set to "Dual".
4) Assigned existing SIP URI Based Exchange 2010 Dial plan to New Exchange 2013 Servers.
5) Run Exchucutil.ps1
in Exchange 2013 and OcsUMUtil in Lync 2013 (Again?)
Will this be enough or Do I need to create New Auto attendant or
Haunt Group etc?
Thanks for all the help!

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 - Delete messages in a folder

    Hi
We have an Exchange 2010 SP3 server. One user has a folder ("Inbox\Firewall Alerts") containing about 300,000 messages.
How can I use PS to delete all messages older than 10 days in this folder?
    Best regards Harald

    Hi,
You can create a personal tag and apply it to this custom folder named "Firewall Alerts" under the Inbox folder. This personal tag will overwrite the DPT or RPT applied to this folder or items in it.
If these messages have the same subject or sender, you can also consider to use the Search-Mailbox -SearchQuery -DeleteContent command to delete these mails older than 10 days. But there is a limit, it's 10000 at a time if a search query is specified when
    you run this command.
    Best regards,

  • MS Exchange 2010 Sp3 Ent Migration to Exchange 2013

    Hello,
We currently have 2 Exchange 2010 SP3 servers in 1 DAG. Both servers host CAS, Mailbox and Hub Role.
I want to introduce a 3rd Exchange 2013 Server and slowly move users onto a new DAG I build in Exchange 2013.
Can I create a 3rd Exchange 2013 Server with CAS and Mailbox Server Role and make the 3rd Exchange server (2013) a member of the existing (2010) CAS array then slowly perform local move requests for users mailboxes
from my Exchange 2010 DAG to the Exchange 2013 DAG without any disruption to my outlook, OWA and AS clients?
    Exchange 2010 (Windows 2008 R2)
    Exchange 2013 (Windows 2012 R2 DataCenter)

    Hi,
In Exchange 2013, all Outlook connectivity (Internal and External) takes place over Outlook Anywhere(RPC/HTTP). Thus, CAS array which is used internal for RPC/TCP protocol (MAPI) no longer exists in Exchange 2013.
For your coexistence environment and the plan to migrate all mailboxes to Exchange 2013 in the future,
we need to set all virtual directories for CAS 2013 and enable Outlook Anywhere for Exchange 2010. If the mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013, the Outlook client would connect to the server which is set in Outlook Anywhere External host name
and Internal host name instead of CAS array. If all configurations are proper, CAS 2013 would also proxy the service requests for Exchange 2010 users.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup Update 6

Our Exchange environment is currently on Exchange 2010 SP3 RU3 and the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange server version is 11.0.713.0 (Rollup 3).
We planning to upgrade Exchange servers and install Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6, question which I have is it Mandatory to upgrade the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange server version is 11.0.727.0 (Rollup 4) before we install Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 on the
    Exchange servers.
    Thanks,
    AJ

Thanks Adam for the prompt response and yes I recall these cmdlets to disable and there is a similar cmdlet to enable it. Also after Exchange 2010 SP2 after some RU there is no need to disable FPE before installing RU however it is recommended to disable
    it.
If you refer the comments section mentioned in the blog below it talks about it:-
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/05/27/released-update-rollup-6-for-exchange-2010-service-pack-3.aspx
If you read the comment posted by James Knoch posted on this blog which is as below,
SP3 & the Rollup Updates are not supposed to require you to disable Forefront anymore, but it doesn't hurt to be safe and disable/enable it anyways. Make sure you are running Forefront Rollup 4 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2619883)
& the latest security update (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41836).
Above stated confused me a bit, is it mandatory to upgrade Forefront or it is NOT.
    Thanks,
    AJ

    Ashraf

    Hi  Ashraf
    Thank you for your question.
Exchange update cannot continue because the computer that is running update is not in the same Active Directory site or domain as the server that is assigned the domain schema master role, also known as flexible single master operations or FSMO.
You can refer to the following link to change exchange site schema:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/us-cn/zh-hans-cn/library/2376fec1-b9ce-44db-beb6-cb9ac4788988.aspx
You also notice the order for updated:
1.Client Access servers (beginning with the internet-facing site)
2.Hub Transport and Edge Transport servers
    3.Mailbox servers
    4.Unified Messaging servers
You can refer to the following link to update:

If there are any questions, please let me know.

I have tried the FIX: WCF services that are hosted by NLB computers to route messages to Exchange Server fail when WebHeader settings are added by using a .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 application
    Windows6.0-KB2637518-x64.msu
when I run it, it tells me "The Update does not apply to your system.  So im thinking I need to remove the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and the .NET Framework 4 Extended.  reboot, then install
Windows6.0-KB2637518-x64.msu and then reinstall .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and the .NET Framework 4 Extended
this has taken a day or so to figure out the order of dependencies and the order to put them on.
Frustrating, since I won't be using Exchange 2010, were moving all the way to Exchange 2013 on a brand new server.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 upgrade - Event ID 4999 - Address Book Crash

    0
I just upgraded an Exchange 2010 SP1 CAS server to SP3 - since then anytime an outlook client connects to the CAS server, the Address Book service crash's and event 4999 is logged in App log.  I can reproduce the issue by attempting to create a new
outlook profile and checking the name against the CAS server.  This crash's the service and the client recieves an error message.  The contents of event ID 4999 is below.  I've tried re-installing the CAS role, re-applying the schema extension
for SP3.  I've installed all windows updates, enabled logging but I'm not getting anywhere.  If anyone can help with this issue, I would greatly appreicate it.
    Watson report about to be sent for process id: 10168, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 14.03.0123.004, M.E.AddressBook.Service, M.Exchange.Rpc, M.E.R.R.RfriRpcOperationBase.Complete, System.ArgumentException, a3e, 14.03.0123.002.
    ErrorReportingEnabled: True
That error is followed by a message that the Address Book service has sucessfully started

    Hello,
For exchange 2010 sp3, there is no article to explain the issue.
I suggest you run EXBPA aganist your exchange server health check.

  • After Exchange 2010 SP3 upgrade, UAG publised OWA is throwing a "You do not have permissions to view this folder or page" error

    Hi,
We have an issue with our OWA page.  We are currently publishing OWA via UAG.
We recently upgraded to Exchange 2010 SP3 and then SP3 Rollup7.  Since the upgrade, we are keep getting the following error after entering our credentials on the login page.  I've tried with every possible browser.
You do not have permissions to view this folder or page
Strangely enough, the mobile phones are sending and receiving emails just fine, the phones use the same OWA link, so it's not an authentication issue, the phones login into the UAG servers with no issues.  I can see this on the Active Sessions screen
    on Web Monitor.
I've attempted to connect to the OWA by bypassing the UAG server, so putting in the local OWA address of one of my Exchange servers, it works... so the OWA page is up and running.
No error logs get generated on Web Monitor when we receive the permission error, I think this is because it's past authentication, it's on the Exchange layer.
Any insight would be helpful?  I'm assuming something changed on the Exchange side after the upgrade.
Just in case, I've upgraded the UAG and TMG servers to the latest SP and Rollup packets.
    UAG > SP4
    TMG > SP2 Rollup 5

I've found a solution; UAG requires Basic Authentication over OWA.  For some reason Integrated Windows Authentication got turned on after the SP3 upgrade.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee921443.aspx
Turning Integrated Windows Authentication off via the Client Access OWA settings resolved the issue.  Though beware, you
have do this on all your Client Access servers.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 - "500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command" in SMTP Receive Log. Senders get message with the same problem

    Hi
My exchange environment consist with "Server Exchange 2010 SP3" and "Edge Server with Exchange 2010 SP3".
On Edge server in SMTP receive log i get every now and then an entry: xxxxxx 500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command.
It is serius problem because I got few e-mails from senders that they had problem with sending e-mail messages to our e-mail domain. They receive e-mail report, for example
    Technical details of permanent failure:

I have the same issue, but there is plenty of hard disk storage on the Exchange Server. This seems to only be happening from Google Business account/ Postini. If I send message from my personal Gmail account it works fine, but an agency who is on Google
business seems to have issues sending to us and they are delayed, sometimes they get through and other times they just don't.
    Results from Mail Acceptance Test:
I enter my internal address and the remote users postini account as the test setup I received two emails from the tool but the end results of the test are:

As you can see, on line 9, at 03:26:35, we declared to the receiving server what we were about to send. At the line number 10, almost two minutes passed without an authorization (250 OK) from the receiving server. You can see our status being pushed back
at that moment to the receiving mail server: SMTP:Delivery still in progress after 90 seconds. Two more minutes later the connection was simply dropped and so we generated a 400 error message to encourage the sending server to try again later (since no bounce
was given per say from the receiving server, we won't hard-bounce it but defer it).
I hope this will help. you can try to look in the mydomain.com  inbound logs and see at that exact time what happened? Unfortunately, our visibility pretty much ends there as we don't have full visibility of your mail environment. You'll need to investigate
within your own environment unfortunately. If you have any more information to share with me, in case it might help me help you, feel free to do so. I'll leave this case opened for now.

  • Upgrade Windows 2008 R2 sp1 on an Exchange 2010 SP3 server

I have looked high and low for an answer to this question:
    1. I have Windows 2008 R2 running Exchange 2010 SP3
    2. Can I upgrade Windows 2008 R2 to SP1 with Exchange 2010 SP3 onboard?
    3. Are there pre-requisites for doing this?
    4. If so, where can I get the documentation?
I have spent hours looking through Google and Technet.  Lots of information about compatibility of 2008 R2 and Exchange SP1 and SP2.
Your wisdom and experience would be appreciated.  Thank you!!
    Charlie

    Hi,
    "Can I upgrade Windows 2008 R2 to SP1 with Exchange 2010 SP3 onboard?"
    Yes, you can.
"Are there pre-requisites for doing this?"
There is no pre-requisites, however, as what Idan Vexler mentioned above, downtime is required.
"If so, where can I get the documentation?"

  • Email Delivery problem from Mailman to Exchange 2010 SP3 - Invalid Character Set Name in Message Subject

    Dear all,
we have a problem in the email delivery from Mailman 2.6 List Server to Exchange 2010 SP3 CU7,
related to the encoding name of the Message Subject.
The error we receive is the following:
    #550 5.6.0 CAT.InvalidContent.Exception: InvalidCharsetException, Character set name (iso8859-7) is invalid or not installed.;
cannot handle content of message with InternalId
First of all, we can notice that given an encoding name as 'iso-8859-X',  it is transformed by the Mailman to 'iso8859-X' (without the first dash).
Our previous Exchange version ( Exchange 2003) didn't have any problem with this, but now,
Microsoft Exchange 2010 doesn't like the form of the encoding name without the dash,
and bounces the emails from Mailman.
The strange is that other email systems like Gmail, Yahoo accept the transformed encoding name.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Panagiotis Kontogiannis

    Hi Panagiotis,
Base on my search, I found a similar issue which was caused by the antivirus software in exchange server.
I recommend you try to disable all the antivirus services and check if any helps.

  • Exchange 2013 Sp1 Coexistence with Exchange 2010 SP3 CU5 HTTP 500

I`m trying to make working OWA coexistence between Exchange 2013 SP1 and Exchange 2010 SP3 CU5.
When user login in to OWA where his mailbox is located  on Exchange 2013 server it logon successful and owa opened. When i try to login to the same url with user whose mailbox is located on Exchange 2010 server  i get Error http 50
The website cannot display the page :   HTTP 500   »https://URLEXCHANGE2013/owa/auth.owa«
The same is, when i use https:// URLEXCHANGE2013/ecp?ExchClientVer=14
URL on Exchange 2013 are different  as fro Exchange 2010.
I even tried to setup Internal URL for Exchange 2010 to bi set to »null ,Saem error
Exchange server 2013 Sp1 is installed on Windows server 2012 R2.

Assumption  is correct. I have even  enable verbose logging, and i can see MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy , that successfully connect to Exchange 2010 server.
But remember Exchange 2013 is fresh installation on  Windows server 2012 R2.

    Hi Noel,
Base on my search, it may be due to IRM feature been enabled for OWA.
I recommend you use the following command to check if the value of IRMEnabled parameter is true:
    Get-OWAVirtualDirectory – Identity “servername\owa (default web site)” |FL name,IRMEnabled
If the value is true, you can use "Set-OWAVirtualDirectory" cmdlt to change it to false, and check if any helps.

    Hi,
As you have found, the error is caused by that .msp installer files correlating to all the Update Rollups are not present in the c:\windows\installer folder.
Based on my research, there is no Microsoft article about the hotfix of  KB2492690 (SP1 Update Rollup 3). Because our Exchange Team pulled the download due to issues with integration with Blackberry.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Unable to install rollup4 for Exchange 2010 SP3

    Hi,
I'm unable to install KB2905616 on my multi-role Exchange 2010 SP3 server. The setup wizard gets stuck at "the setup wizard is generating native images for .NET assemblies........"
I know that this process will take some time to complete but I have waited 10 hours.
I've tried to reboot the server and restart the setup.
    Exchange is functioning perfectly otherwise.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    Hi,
I recommend you check if the anti-virus has been disabled before you start the upgrade process.
If you didn't ,the update could fail or take an extended amount of time.
Also, disable all other third-party apps/plugins that might be installed (like backup agents).
In addition, the following articles for your reference:
Install the Latest Update Rollup for Exchange 2010
When you install an update rollup package, Exchange tries to connect to the certificate revocation list (CRL) Web site. Exchange examines the CRL list to verify the code signing certificate. (To download and view the CRL list, see
CodeSignPCA.crl.) If Exchange can't connect to the CRL Web site, the following symptoms may occur:
The installation takes a long time to complete.
You receive the following message during the installation: Creating native images for .Net assemblies
When Exchange isn't connected to the Internet, each CRL request must complete before the installation can continue.
To work around this issue and to reduce installation times, turn off the
Check for publisher’s certificate revocation option on the server that is being upgraded. Use the following steps:
    Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then locate the Security section.
Clear the Check for publisher’s certificate revocation check box, and then click
    OK.
After the update rollup installation is complete, select the Check for publisher’s certificate revocation option.
Generating NGEN images takes longer than expected
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.
