Color libraries won't match in AI and PS CS3
Hey guys, perhaps a newb question here...
I have been trying to get my PMS libraries to sync up between illustrator and photoshop. I have selected pantone solid coated 375 in the photoshop color library and the illustrator swatch library and lined them up side by side on the same monitor. The illustrator side looks very desaturated and the photoshop nearly matches my color book. I have tried syncing the color management settings in bridge, both are using the same profiles, and both are in RGB mode without proof colors being viewed. What's weird is I tried to open the photoshop PMS library in Ilustrator, and it looked exactly the same as the desaturated one. Any clue on how to get the Illustrator to show the library properly?

You might want to sticky this or make a note of it.
I found the answer to my question after a lot of research. The problem is the illustrator (as well as indesign) for the CS2 and CS3 versions both default to their legacy CMYK color books given by the manufacturers. Photoshop, however, has used the Lab version from the color book manufacturers for quite a while. Anyhow, the CMYK color books are chosen by default in CS2 and CS3, however, Lab is selected in CS4 from what I've read. To fix it, this is what you should do:
1. Open your swatch pallete
2. Open your swatch pallete options
3. Select "Spot Colors"
4. Click on "use Lab values specified by the book manufacturer
5. Click OK.
You're setup! At least until you close the program, you'll have to save the UI profile to have it stay that way.

CS3 color management won't match prints
Okay, I know there are a lot of boneheds who can't figure out how to set up color in Bridge and CS3 but I am at my wits end on this so bear me out.
Windows XP and CS3
Bridge is set to; Enable color management in Bridge
RAW conversion is SRGB
CS3 color settings/working space set to SRGB
Print color management is set to SRGB and Photoshop manages colors
Printer is set to "application manages colors" (HP B9180)(btw, I have also tried it set to SRGB)
Image looks the same on Bridge, RAW conversion, CS3 and print screen (dark)Image looks LIGHTER when viewed with any other program (including windows picture and fax viewer, HP print program, Paint Shop Pro and online) and prints to match the lighter image both on my HP and from my lab!
The closest I have been able to get to a total sync is to set Photoshop's color settings to "Monitor color," and uncheck the box in Bridge that says "apply color management settings in Bridge." In that case, Bridge and CS3 produce a lighter image but RAW conversion is still darker. Plus, who the hell wants to use monitor color in Photoshop!?That's pretty much it David... I could get Photoshop to match my prints but then any other program would show the prints as being waaaay off-color.
Today I bought a spider2express and color balanced my monitor. Now everything seems to look in sync and my prints match very close (a little warm for my tastes..). Tech support at Photoshop told me it was a calibration issue but I thought that was bull... i mean, how can calibration make an image that looks different in two different programs look the same? Well, it does. As far as I understand it now (layman's terms)when you look at an image in windows viewer ot explorer or any other non-color management program you are looking at the image based on your monitor profile. When you look at the same image in photoshop the program uses it's own color management which then gets filtered through your monitor program to your eyes (but not to the printer). If your monitor profile is bad, the image looks bad.
Or something like that :) -
iPad IOS 7.0.2 and Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Calendar colors do not match between computer and device. Problem did not exist until updated IOS arrived. Colours change of their own free will despite being corrected on both iPAD and MacBook Pro. Any answers?

Go to your hard drive, enter library, go into users, and go into launch agents and delete the thing above. Empty the trash and restart. -
My iPad colors are fuzzy with lots of reds and purples. Looks like my digital camera when it needs to be recharged if that helps describe the issue. Can anyone help?
Next step is to back up and restore via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a new device and test. If the problem is solved, there is some kind of corruption in your backup file. If it continues, take it to an Apple store for evaluation of a possible hardware problem.

Color Libraries not working anymore
Hi,
I was creating an .acb (adobe color book) file to access my company's colors from the color picker's color libraries section and everything was going well. It was all working, I've been using it for some time, and then I decided to change the name of my library in the coding.
After that the color libraries stopped working. Not only my color library, but the color library function in Photoshop. Now when I try to access the color libraries section from the color picker, it simply closes the color picker. It doesn't give me any error message. Photoshop doesn't crash or anything, it's only that I can't access the color libraries section.
I tried removing my .acb file from the \Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Color Books folder, but it didn't solve the problem. The color libraries still won't open.
Anyone knows a solution to this problem. It's kind of urgent since I need that color library file working for a tool I'm developping for my company.
Would there be someplace in Photoshop that I could reset Photoshop's color libraries to start from scratch and go back to my old version of the .acb file that was working perfectly, before I changed it's name?
Right now I'm using Photoshop CS2, I should be switching to Photoshop CS3 soon, but I'd like to have a solution to make sure the same problem doesn't happen on CS3.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I haven't had to try your solutions because for some reason the problem is fixed now. All I did was modify again the code name of my color books to something else and put them back in the color books folder and it got back to life. It still doesn't explain why the problem wasn't fixed when I deleted them from the folder, so I guess if it happens again I'll try your solutions to see if it helps.

my wife and i both have an itunes library installed on to our separate pc's, we are now de-commissioning the pc's and are moving over to a single mac mini, can we install both libraries on to the mac mini and run them as separate libraries?

Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
That's all.

PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

How do I create a text style in CC libraries? Every time I drag and drop text into library form Photoshop or illustrator it turns it into a graphic.
If I select the text layer and click the text style button in the library it just creates a new text style for Myriad Pro 12pt - I'm not using that anywhere in my document.
Can anyone help? Seems like a bug to me as I'm trying what the video tutorials are saying.

My question seems to be all over the forum but no one has been able to answer other than exporting to these file formats, which make text look awful and of no use....
And yet everyone else in the world makes proper web images every day using a plethora of programs, including these...go figure.

Hello, cocteau! What you're calling "transparency" is inherent to object-based vector artwork. But web browsers don't support object-based vector artwork, except via file formats like Flash and SVG, or by viewing as a PDF in a plug-in version of Reader. Raster imaging in general only supports "transparency" by either indexing a specific color (i.e.; "don't display this color", as in GIF) or including an alpha channel (i.e.; "blend all the pixels with existing pixels, based on values from this extra channel", as in PNG). It's all in the raster file format you use, cocteau; it has little-to-nothing to do specifically with Adobe software. Such things are among the most basic matters understood by someone doing web design.
When I export an eps from .ai file, and open the eps in photoshop,...I save as a gif for the web, it goes back to the original problem...creates jagged text. I"m giving up on this garbage...Thanks a lot adobe! Lower the price of this software if this is all that can be done.
Once it leaves Photoshop (or Illustrator, or whatever) as a non-proprietary raster image format, it's all about what the format can do re "transparency". You can do this stuff with most any graphics program. You should read about basic web design and the differences between raster and vector content, rather than rant.

Is there a way to permanently save color libraries in Illustrator CC 2014 so that every time you launch the software, the colors appear in Swatch palette?
Modify the New Document Profile you use the most to reflect what you want it to contain or just make a new document with all the stuff and save it with a distinct name to the New Document Profiles folder in your user profile.

2 identical Strings won't match?
hi, i have a program that takes some bytes out of a data file. It then checks to see if the data matches the
requested IDs. I have a strange problem. I have 2 different IDs that i have requested. When I request the first,
it works fine and the program selects properly. If I select the second, it also works fine and selects correctly.
However, if I select the first, get the correct results, and then try to select the second ID without restarting the
program first it will NOT select. I stepped through, and basically there is a comparison between 2 String that
is returning erronous conclusions. It works the first time around no problem, but for some reason when i am
in there the second time it won't match right. I tried using the '==' operator, the compareTo, and the
equalsIgnoreCase methods, all with the same result. Also, i get this same error no matter which order i put
the IDs in. I.e- i select 1st ID, get correct results, then try to select 2nd ID and get wrong results. It works the
same if I switch the ID selection order. Also, these IDs are number strings. Does anyone know why this is
happening? What am I missing here? thanks!ooops! sorry, here is some code:

Notes: i just added the new String declaration because i thought the static nature of a declaration might
change the results. THe strange part is that i exit this function completely and come back to it between the
2 selections. Although this is inside a listener of a Swing Object that never dies in between so i guess it

Workflow advice on matching different cameras and lenses
Greetings. I'm currently trying to match six cameras and all their different lenses to produce identical images and I need advice on fine tuning my workflow on making the camera profiles.
Me and my team are shooting weddings. We have Nikon D3s, Nikon D3, 2x Canon 5D mk III, Canon 1D mk 3, Canon 5D mk II with 17 lenses and I'm in the middle of the process of matching their colors so when we shoot together I don't go crazy trying to match the white balance between all the cameras in Lightroom.
The issue I have is that I managed to make all the colors, contrast, saturation and brightness for all cameras and lenses on daylight shots identical (with minimal differences) but shots under 2800k light are very different.
I'll explain what I've done so far so that you can find my error and hopefully decide to help me.
I bought a 24 patch color checker and took photos with all cameras - once with a 2800k halogen lamp and then with a 5500k strobe (Nikon SB-800 @ 1/16 power). I shot in RAW. The exposures are good - no blown highlights or unexposed parts. In Camera raw I applied the "Camera neutral" color profile for all cameras. I exported the shots in DNG. For each camera and lens I imported the halogen and flash lit file into DNG Profile editor.
In the chart section I created a color table for the "2850 K only" halogen lit shot and then for the flash lit shot choosing "6500 K only".
So far so good. The colors are good but to achieve them for the different cameras or lenses I need to input different color temperatures and tint. What I want is to set identical color temperature for all photos (say 5500k) and to get identical colors regardless of camera or lens.
So the next step I took to get at least the daylight shots identical is to play with the "White balance calibration" under the "Color matrices" tab. For instance - DNG Profile editor determines that the flash shot should be set to 6050k +8 tint. I move the "white balance calibration" sliders until I reach the numbers I want above the flash shot (5500k). Because the colors shift I press the "Create color table" button again. My goal is to show the program that I want these (calibrated) colors to be achieved at 5500k +0 tint and not 6050k +8 tint. I get the result I want but that affects the 2850k shot. If I readjust the "white balance calibration" sliders for the 2850k shot and use "create color table" again, that ruins the 6500k adjustment.
So using this workflow I get either the daylight shots right or the tungsten lit shots, but not both.
So in short my question is - How do I create proper profiles that produce identical colors among all cameras and lenses under all white balance settings?

"If you exceed your iCloud storage limit, photos and videos won't upload to iCloud, and your library will no longer stay up to date across your devices." Really? Can't we support the existing "last 1k photos will be available in the cloud" model? If we don't do this, won't this kill auto-sync of new photos from iOS devices to our libraries on our Macs (if the Mac's Photos app has auto syncing with the cloud turned on) once we go over our 5gb limit? I have 350GB of photos in my Mac Photos library - I am not going to pay $20/month for 1tb iCloud storage. Please advise, Apple. Thank you.
I agree and am baffled by this also. At first I was really excite about this new feature. Mostly because I would be able to seamlessly sync videos along with my PhotoStream. I just assumed there would be some systematic way to handle large libraries. Like removing older files as the current PhotoStream does. However, it appears that this new feature will simply 'shut down' when you reach your storage limit. This just makes no sense to me. I would have to double check, but I have all my photos and videos in iPhoto and stored on a 3 TB external hard drive and I think the full library is over 1 TB. So, even if I was willing to pay $20 a month for photo syncing (which I am not) I couldn't do it because my library is too large. Again I am just baffled why Apple cannot blend this new service with the existing PhotoSteam model. My favorite aspect of PhotoSteam is that is uploads all my iPad and iPhone Photos to my Mac for permanent storage and it seems this is lost in the new version.

I've created 2 Color Libraries (un RGB and one CMYK) with my company's corporate colors, so that when I need to create something new I just open the library and the colors would be set (which, as I understand, that's the purpose of the libraries) but every time I open them to create a new file, the swatches have changed a few numbers, both in the RGB and the CMYK libraries.
I don't understand why this happens and it is really annoying as I'm trying to make everyone follow the corporate colors.
Does anyone know why could this be happening? Is there a specific way I should be creating/saving the libraries?

AlejandraHi, thanks but that's not the problem. I understand there are two different modes and I've created two different libraries (one RGB for the RGB document and one CMYK for the CMY document); the problem is that the values of the swatch change a few numbers every time I open the document.
Fx.
If I'm supposed to have a corporate blue RGB 0-134-191, the next time I open an RGB document the values have changed to 0-143-189...
The same happens with all the colors in both RGB/CMYK documents.
As you may understand it is very important that the values are the same as it is time consuming to change them every time we create a new document, and as they are corporate colors, minimum variations affect a lot. -
Flash CS5.5 :Android App won't match screensize

I have created an app for ipad recently with Flash CS5.5. It works just fine, but now I'm trying to publishing it for android devices such as the samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. When I set the document dimensions to 1280x800 the app won't match the screen resolution of the tab and the app displays white bars for filling the gaps.
I tried to enlarge the document width to 1380 pixel but the height won't fit on the other hand...
I exported it landscape view and fullscreen.
