Color Palette Conundrum

Is there a way to set up a preference in Illustrator CS5 in which a custom color palette opens with every new document instead of the standard color palette?  Can't seem to figure this one out and it would be a tremendous time saver for me.

  • Animated gif changes color palette while playing

    Hi everyone,
I've been creating animted gifs using Matlab and the ImageMagick suite (convert). If I open the gifs in Preview, the color comes out fine in each frame; however i I use Quicktime (which is necessary, that's what we use for presentations) the color palette will change as the frames play.
I just got the newest version of Quicktime, hoping that it would solve the problem, but it didn't. Any ideas?

I'm not familiar to the software but I can guess what is happening.
Too many colors. A GIF is 8 bit (256 colors) but some of them are not used by all software. Windows and Mac's are different.
Does the software offer a way to reduce the number of colors used? Can you get it down to 8 bit? Can you discard unused colors with some other software?
Have you considered building an image sequence movie? These allow many different images formats and support up to 32 bit formats (millions of colors).
QuickTime Pro ($30) can import a series of images as a movie. The file size is much smaller than any video format used today (just the total of the images file size).

  • INDD to PDF: web-safe color palette?

Context: currently, the Google Docs Viewer/Embedder, when used to display a PDF in a browser, heavily downsamples images in the PDF resulting in grisly color changes and posterization. This has been discussed for a long time elsewhere on the web (example) and is something Google might eventually deal with.
I assume Google's intention was to hack down bandwidth usage, which I don't begrudge them, but the results stand out glaringly in an otherwise vibrant WWW. Embedded fonts work fine, and the only other visual/layout errors can be with some more advanced design effects—unless they are flattened down to Acrobat 5 compatibility.
With the nasty color changes, what I believe I'm seeing is a re-processing of the images in the PDF with ye olde web-safe color palette. Or maybe its paleolithic predecessor. FYI the source PDF is unaffected. And FYI, yes, I am aware of  many other options for embedding a PDF in a web page; I'd like to try and solve this one.
My thinking is this: if I can output my InDesign file such that images are converted more gracefully to a web-safe palette, and possibly with more satisfactory color dithering, then the results via the Google Docs Viewer/Embedder might be improved, more predictable, good enough for now.
I know how to do this with Photoshop, and I assume it's a Photoshop engine working behind the scenes in/for InDesign when processing images, so I'm hoping this is attainable.
    Semi-educated guesses:
That a suitable color profile could be created and selected when outputting either PDF or PS, resulting in 255-color (indexed) RGB images in the final PDF layout.
That the long way is to make alternate versions of each image used in the layout, swap them (such as with relink to file extension, e.g. GIF for TIF), and output a version specifically for embedding.
Thanks in advance for any creative thinking.
Edit: it's looking like the limit is far fewer colors, possibly 16. Gross. But I'm still curious about the possibility of a method for this, as it could have other applications.

After getting both your replies, I went back and experimented some more. I am creating a pdf for a b&w book interior, and it is setup as an ID book, with two files. I was trying to generate the pdf from the book.indb file without the individual book indd files being open. That resulted in the screen in my initial question.
I went back and doubleclicked both of my book indd files and selected both, then generated the pdf from the book.indb file. This time I got the proper choices Document CMYK - U.S. Web Coated ....

  • Reports (10.1.2.0.2) developer crashes when I try to import a color palette

I had enough with this Reports Developer tool. Did not have this problem with 6i version (have been using for years) and do not have problem with changing the color palette with Forms in the 10.1.2.0.2 version. But the :(!@#$%! reports keeps crashing when I try to change (import) a color palette. The only option available is the Export color palette, the Import is always greyed out. This report that I am trying to change the color palette was originally designed with 6i reports tool and I am porting it to iAS format. It is running on Linux. If I start a new report (from scratch) in iDS (reports tool), then I have the paper layouts uses the new canvas of the iDS. But if you try to open up an old report, it shows the old color palette and does not allow importing the proper new color palette. I had no problem with changing the color palette when porting 6i forms to 10gR2 forms. Whe the hell the reports is not working? It supposed to be the same process to import a color palette. I need to port this old reports into new iAS format and this stupid color palette stuff is holding us back.
Any step by step instructions to import a color palette in Reports, is appreciated. Write it for dummies please - I am tired and need step by step instructions please. I never liked the Reports tool (contrary to Forms) and I hate it now.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
Additionally I have no idea what you are saying here

And it always helps for you to dientify the version of iPhoto that you are using

  • Custom Color Palette - Chart Designer

Hi all,  I need to change the colors that my pie chart uses.  You can do this in chart designer under the global settings section.  The property,  color pallete has 4 selectable entries,  Frog, Streamline, Tradeshow, and Custom.   By selecting "Custom", this means that I can choose the exact colors that I want to use, right?  If so, where and how do I specify the colors for my custom color palette.   Any reply would be appreciated.  Thanks.
    Regards,
    Rich Heilman

    Hi Rich,
Did you go through my post here https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/profile?userid=397656 ? I`m not 100% sure that you are able to do this using only Chart Designer. The problem is that you need association between series data id in cutomization XML and data XML. If you know such id on design time, you can re-design my example by moving generated piece of XML from WD to static customizing XML.

  • Custom Color Palette for Charts

    Hi all,
Can I define the colors of a chart by a custom color palette in Design Studio (as you can do it in Web Intelligence) or does SAP intend to implement such a function in a next release? With CSS this isn't fully possible, because it doesn't allow you to coloring the additional line like the corresponding main line.
I've already seen and commented this post Re: Custom Color Palette for Charts / CSS, but it's still unanswered. Maybe I've with a new discussion more success.
    Thank you and kind regards

  • Custom color palette in WAD charts

    Hi BI Experts,
we are trying to create a custom color palette, which we want to apply to all your WAD charts.
Can anyone tell us how to do this?
Of course we can customize the colors in each chart, but that's a hell of a lot of work. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be any way to save the custom colors, but we have to recreate the colors with the color picker for every single chart.
The WAD chart wizard allows to choose between color palettes "Enjoy", "Streamline", "Tradeshow" and "User specific".
If it is not possible to create a custom color palette, can we modify one of these SAP color palettes? What does "User specific" mean?
Any help will be much appreciated (and of course rewarded with points).

  • Custom Color Palette for Charts / CSS

Is there a way of creating a custom color palette for charts (as you can do it in WebIntelligence) and install it on the tomcat?
Or will I have to set my custom colors in the css? And if so: where can I find a description of classes for Charts? Is there any description of css classes at all? All I could find was a list of classes for a crosstab (but no description).
    Thank you
    Carola

  • Custom Composed Look not appearing in Change the Look with custom color palette

    Hi,
I created custom color palette, (which was a copy of one of the out of the box ones) and uploaded it to the Themes folder under a different name. I then went to the Composed Looks and created a new Composed Look(using the New
Items), which the seattle master page, and the new color palette that I created.
When I go to Change a Look, the new Composed Look does not appear as part of the options.
When I change the color palette of the Composed Look, to one of the out of the box ones, I see it I the Change a Look page.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

I would check two things. First, did you check in the spcolor file you created? Second, I would review all of the properties of your composed look found in "/_catalogs/design/AllItems.aspx". You might want to copy and paste all properties (except
title and name) and see if your new composed look shows up in "Change the look". Then link to your own custom spcolor file.

  • Custom color palette not saving.  Why?

Logic is not saving changes that I make to the color palette.  I can make the change, but after I quit and restart Logic, the changes are gone.  Any idea why?

I've answered this question, but I cannot figure out what I've previously done wrong.  I managed to save the colours and get them to reload when I went back in to Logic. Not exactly sure how I did it, but it doesn't save automatically.

  • How do you display a color palette for InDesign

I would like to have a similar color palette displayed that is used in PhotoShop for my InDesign work.  Right now when
clicking on a swatch color it brings up the rgb or cmyk sliders, but I would like to have the full color spectrum available
to select from as in PhotoShop

You can acess the color picker by double clicking the strok or fill proxies in the tool box or color panel rather than the swatch, but Keep in mind that this is an RGB colorspace tool, and the potential for doing great harm to spot colors or CMYK mixes is tremendous if you exit with the wrong set of values highlighted, so I generally recommend giving it a wide berth.

  • What is the top right button in the color palette used for

I've seen several tutorials on different mac apps and when they refer to the color palette I see a oval shape button in the top right corner. Maybe that was in 10.5 or latter but I'm using Lion and there is no oval button in my color palette. I see this in Pages, Pixelmator and Keynote but no oval button showing.
    Thanks in advace

I've found over the past day that its presence comes and goes, presumably based on background apps.
As I'm unable to predict when I'll catch it next time, it's best I close this question and I'll reopen a new question when I can provide a screenshot.
Many thanks for your response, and I'll watch for its reappearance.

  • Plugin for a sort of color palette

    Hello everybody,
is there a plugin or a feature in Photoshop CS6 I haven't discovered yet that offers me a sort of color palette that looks like the 'Color' feature in the 'Window' menu in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014? The palette offered by the plugin should deliver the colors contained in the currently opened picture.
In Gimp e.g. there's a feature in the colors menu that delivers a gradient of all the colors contained in the image.
    Thank you very much.

the only way I know how to do it is:
    1. convert your image to indexed color. (Image/Mode/Indexed Color...) .. hit ok if it asks you to flatten all layers, then hit ok again. By default this will break your image down into 256 colors.
    2. go to Image/Mode/Color Table... and in the pop-up window, click 'save...' and then just type in a new name for the file it is asking you to save. Do not type an extension after your filename. And remember where you're saving the file. Now you're back to the previous pop-up window (the color table window)- just hit ok to get out of it
    3. in your swatches panel, choose 'replace swatches' - if it asks you to save your current swatches, you can do so before proceeding. Then, browse to the folder where you saved the file. At the bottom of the "load" window where it says "Files of Type:" at the bottom, it says "Swatches (*ACO) by default. Click on that, and it drops another menu down, Select "COLOR TABLE (*ACT) instead. Now, the file you saved will show up. Click on that file to load it into your swatches.
    4. hit "step back" or undo a few times until you get your image back into RGB mode (or whatever mode you were in before Indexed mode).
And now your swatches panel will contain every color in your image as a swatch, up to 256 colors. This won't work for millions of colors because obviously how could you have a swatch panel with 16 million colors..
this is a painful, long workaround... but it does what I think you're asking for. Maybe you can find a way to automate it via scripting or something
