Colors went DARK after installing Snow Leopard

Anyone else have this problem? I installed Snow Leopard, everything went smoothly except I noticed my background desktop image was extremely dark. Even the UI is darker, except the dock appears whitewashed, as though the brightness on it was cranked up separately from everything else.
I tried calibrating a new color profile, but it came out looking pretty much exactly the same as it already is.
I found a workaround, and I copied everything out of my libraries/colorsync/profiles folder from my Time Machine drive, from before I installed SL. It's much closer to normal now, but much of the UI displays color information incorrectly, like in the dock.
Does anyone know a real way to fix this problem, without having to rig a temporary solution as I did? Or is this just something we have to wait for an update on?
My monitor is a Dell 3007WFPHC 30" LCD, if that makes any difference. I've also noticed I have NO software screen brightness/contrast controls anywhere. The keys don't do anything, and I have no sliders in the System Prefs, Display area, like many others seem to.
Thanks in advance if anyone knows anything about this.

I can't tell you if "No Display Connected" indicates an error or not. I see the same message on all my Macs, but they all have built-in displays. I think the Display Connector info pertains to external or secondary displays only, but I'm not certain about that. Maybe someone with a similar Mac model will chime in here with a better answer for that.
Is there anything unusual about your setup? Are you maybe using a graphics card not originally shipped with your Mac? Starting up with the 64-bit kernel? Have you installed any graphics drivers besides what came with the OS?
Also, have you checked your display manual for anything relevant? I've used various monitors with client's Macs & some have settings that switch off automatic detection of resolution changes, sending display info back to the source, or other things of that nature. If nothing else, see if there is a reset procedure or general mode setting command mentioned. In particular, look for any automatic "smart" settings that aren't so smart. I was recently running a redundant pair of identically configured Mini's with identical, out-of-the-box new LG monitors for a client. The two monitors refused to behave the same until I went through all their menus & set everything identically. One would think brand new monitors straight out of factory sealed boxes would be set the same, but they weren't. Go figure.

  • Unable to print on HP J6480 after installing Snow Leopard

After installing Snow Leopard I've been unable to print from my HP J6480.  I get an error message saying to check for updates from Apple and the manufacturer.  Apple shows no more updates.  I've added a printer driver v2.6 from Apple, but that hasn't helped.  Had no problems printing before this.  Any suggestions?

Never mind.  Just went to Hewlett Packard site and the suggestion was to reinstall the printer.  I did so and it now works.  Of course, the reinstall wiped out other printers I had on there....Adding Snow Leopard has resulted in much more work than I thought it would be!

  • MacBook Pro won't wake from sleep after installing Snow Leopard

If my MacBook Pro is running while closed with an external display and I unplug it from the display it goes to sleep - as indicated by the white light and the front pulsing. If I then open the MacBook the display remains blank and it is completely unresponsive to any keys or track pad input.
The only thing it responds to at that point is holding the power button down until it powers down and then restarting - loosing all work in progress at that point.
Before installing Snow Leopard the Mac would wake reliably when opened from this state.

I think I may have found the fix for this. My MacBook Pro was dying in its sleep every time (after installing Snow Leopard), whether it went to sleep automatically or I used a Hot Corner. I went into System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver and changed the screen saver to Flurry, and it works now. I had had it set to a folder containing a single .pct file that I had created.
Good advice Mike! When in doubt check the ScreenSaver settings.
Definitely seems that it has a problem with that pic... In my case, selecting any images instead of the default setting (no screensaver) seems to have cured my non waking issue on my early Macbook Pro in Snow Leopard.
My original problem was that no amount of trackpad input woke it, but the space bar did. The space bar seemed to wake it up with the previous Screen Saver setting. Now trackpad wakes it up (even from total sleep as well as screen saver), too. Might be nice to know about if this is an intended 'feature' as a security trick. Otherwise I consider this a bug.
My vote is that it's a bug.

  • Hard drives damaged after installing Snow Leopard :(

After installing Snow Leopard all software seemed to work fine. Then I found out that e-sata doesn't seem to work well with Snow.
I've tried two different e-sata cards, including CalDigit's FASTA-2e, which CalDigit claims works fine with 10.6.
My external enclosure appeared and immediately gave me a kernel panic. I tried several times with different working drives and now they are all heavily damaged. Kernal panic after kernal panic, I am noe having a difficult time accessing the data.
Now here's the strange part...after going back to Leopard 10.5, my internal drives all seemed to be infected as well. After using Disk Warrior and apple's disc utility, I got those working ok.
What could be going wrong here? I installed Snow. It was fast. But it wasn't worth it...at least not yet.
If there's anything else I might be doing wrong or any way to fix these drives now, please let me know.
    Thanks all!

Open the Speech pane of System Preferences and check whether either the listening key or the speech key has become set to that keystroke; if so, change the setting.

  • Opening Photo Files in Photo Shop CS3 after installing Snow Leopard.

After installing Snow Leopard I could only open photo files in a Preview mode. I called Adobe and Apple and could not get a solution. So I called my local Mac tech person where I got the answer to my problem. What to do: Right click on an image file icon.(Do not open image.) Then go to: Get info. In the dropdown menu, Open with: Select Adobe Photoshop CS3.app or whatever app you desire. Then click change all. You have to do this just one time for each extention such as jpg, tif, etc. Trust this helps.

To try to address the browser problem, reset Safari and see if that helps. Also, try an alternate browser (I use Firefox that way) to see if the problem is system-wide. Also, there is a Safari forum here:

  • Met with a white screen after installing Snow Leopard on Macbook (mid 2007)

After installing Snow Leopard on my Mid 2007 mac book pro I was prompted to restart. I restarted and the computer turned on but only got as far as a white screen that stays white with no further activity for an indefinite amount of time. I've restarted the computer a few times with the same results. How do I fix this and get past the white screen?!

Try booting into "verbose mode".  That will cause a series of messages to appear on the screen during the boot process.  When that stalls (presuming it does so), write down the last few messages and post them as a reply.
You might also try running the diagnostics that came with that Mac.  Depending on the model, you can boot with the "system restore disc" in the machine with the "D" key held down to run those.  Run the diagnostics several times.

  • Can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard

I can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have a standard iWork '08 install. Has anyone experienced? And better yet, know of a fix?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Most users who have had a problem opening Office files with the iWork apps after upgrading to Snow Leopard have the problem fixed by updating to the latest versions. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • Why have my plug ins crashed after installing snow leopard ?

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Download and install this: support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
Finally, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • After installing Snow Leopard problems with using any of my Helvetica fonts

I've never really have a problem with any of apple's products until now.
After installing Snow Leopard I've found problems with using any of my Helvetica fonts,
which is a BIG problem if you work in DTP or print. You CAN'T remove the system version of Helvetica, and replace it with your own anymore.
Also Flash CS4 seems to be a dead duck, as after about 5-6 seconds of loading the program it crashes with a "KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE".
    <title edited by host>

Thanks Tom but the original post title was "Work in DTP, don't install snow leopard", but of course apple were unhappy with the title. I know the issue/problem has been discussed for months, the real problem is that it shouldn't be a problem which everyone has to find work arounds for.
After 4 days of playing about, I've finally got flash CS4 working and Quarkxpress was also a big problem for a few months. Printer description (PPD) files which snow leopard doesn't like, but worked in tiger & leopard.....means I can't use my two A3 inkjets for proofing anymore.
I'm just disappointed by snow leopard
