Columns text over multiple pages

Greetings.
I''ve created a two-page word processing document with 2 columns. I would like to be able to type in column 1 until it reaches the end of the page and then have it continue on to column 1 on page 2. Ditto for column 2. I would also like to be able to insert returns in column 1 without effecting the text in column 2. In other words, I'd like the columns to operate independent of one another. I am not using text boxes or tables. I've searched the forum and found this handy thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11793863&#11793863 with a great illustration, but that person seemed to be using text boxes. I could do that, but it seems clumsy.
Surely this can be done. I'm using Pages '09 (version 4.0.3). This computer is at OS 10.5.8.

To do what you describe you must use text boxes as explained in your linked post. Sorry, that's the way it is.

  • How do I run a table over multiple pages?

Hi I write TV scripts using a simple two column table which can be many rows long - how can I get Pages to automatically run the table over multiple pages whilst still allowing me to cut and paste and rearrange the script? This is simple in Word and must work in pages but I can't work out how to get it to work. I've tried looking at the Page Break feature but it won't come up from the table?
    many thanks

At this time, There is no way to drive tables in Pages with AppleScript.
Do your job in Numbers which allow that.

  • I am trying to highlight text on multiple pages, but Adobe will not autoscroll via cursor.

I am trying to highlight text on multiple pages, but when I select the text and bring the cursor to the bottom of the screen Adobe does not advance the document. How do I make it so I can highlight from page to page without having to release the mouse button?
Also, how do I get adobe to realize that there is a header and footer on each page, but the actual text in the file is in two columes. Is there a way to make this clear and embade it in the document so other programs recognize this too?

Regarding your first question, change the view to Single Page Continuous.

  • Possible to play a single embedded audio clip over multiple pages?

    hi
i'm wondering if it's possible to have a single audio clip play over more than one page in an interactive pdf generated in indesign cs5.5?  in the media preview it seems to work but when i export to pdf the audio stops playing when i move to the next page, even when the "stop on page flip" is NOT checked in the media object options box.
what i want is the oppositite of an object with multiple states; looking for a single media object with multiple pages.  thoughts?  i'm publishing song lyrics, need to have the audio playing through the whole text of the piece when it runs to the next page.
    thanks

In the other forum I stated:
It can be done by choosing the right option but it has been my experience that the continuous playback only works in Adobe Acrobat and not in any version of Adobe Reader across different devices including computers.
Your best bet would be to publish an interactive Flash file and if you need that to be on an iOS device get someone with an iOS developer license to convert the published Flash file into an iOS app.  You might even be able to convert the Flash file into an epub like a digital magazine but I am inexperienced with this aspect of InDesign.  There are good tutorials that I've seen briefly on creating epub digital magazines from InDesign though so do some research on it and report back.
Have you explored any of this thus far?  I hope you get some good results.

  • Import XML table over multiple pages with rowspan "bug"

Hi, I came across the following oddity:
    I have an XML-file, and a XSL-file to convert the XML-data into a table.
It contains a header, body & a footer.
This table, however, has a rowspan in the first column, spanning [x] rows, where [x] is the amount of items per category, like this example:
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    Header 4
    Header 5
    Header 6
    Appetizers (3 items)
    Appetizers1
    Appetizers2
    Appetizers3
    Soup and Salad (4 items)
    Soup and Salad1
    Soup and Salad2
    Soup and Salad3
    Soup and Salad4
    Deserts (2 items)
    Deserts1
    Deserts2
    Footer
This works fine, as long as all data fits on 1 page.
If I, for example, have 40 "soups & salads", and thus spanning more pages, the "rowspan" is NOT continued on the 2nd page!
This results into an odd-looking table.
I've included the sample-XML & XSL files to see it in practice, and I leave this post with the following question:
Am I missing something? Or is it 'something I have to live with, and edit things manually anyway?

  • How to flow text across multiple pages in 9

My form is lengthy, and one Master Page section will be text with no form fields, but the text is 10+ pages, depending on the version of terms and conditions provided.  In this link, http://forums.adobe.com/message/5112687, there is much discussion on how to accomplish in 8.2, but how would I accomplish in 9?  I would like to be able to paste the 10+ pages and have it automatically flow for that Master Page section. Have tried placing a text field and also tried a text into a flowable subform, setting it to multiple lines, keep with next, but just not sure how to set it up properly.  I can see the plus sign at the bottom of the text box, but when I preview, it does not flow to the other pages.  Was hoping to avoid setting up 10+ pages in the form, as from time to time these terms/conditions are updated, and it would be much faster to just be able to copy/paste from Word into a properly set up text field or subform.  Hope this makes sense, and appreciate any advice, thank you.

Get your text from Word (or wherever you'd like to edit the text so that it looks right).
Open a LiveCycle document (a new one if you're starting from scratch, anyway)
Select your page1 subform, set content to Flowed (Allow page breaks should set automatically).
Add a text field (make sure it's listed as a part of that page1 subform).
Change the text field's caption position to none and make sure Allow multiple lines is checked (as well as allow page breaks). Set height to auto expand
click on the default value for the text field. Paste that 9-page document inside.
Wait a few seconds (or minutes) for LiveCycle to catch up.
Preview and enjoy your new document with several pages automatically paginated for you.

  • How can I copy text spanning multiple pages in iBook?

I like to drop sections of text from i
books into letters, journal entries etc and for the life of me I cannot figure out the functionality of grabbing text that spans multiple pages.

    Hi James,
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out.  You actually solved the problem.  I am able to select as much text as I want now.  The bummer is the lame feature where you cannot take more than a couple hundred words at a time.  The section I wanted was about one and a half pages and it took me 3 separate copy pastes to get it all.  Does anyone know of software or a trick to overcome this limitation?
James thanks again.  I really appreciate your help.

  • How do you stretch an image over multiple pages?

I need to print a large picture, one that will be 30x30 inches. I need to print multiple pages with the image cut up but when I try to resize the image to make it bigger, Pages doesn't create a new page, it just runs the image off the page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pages will accept custom page sizes of 30x30 (or even larger), but then you're faced with the problem of finding a printer that will handle that size of paper.
OTOH, if you move you're project to Numbers, you can:
    Open a "Blank" template.
Use the Metrics Inspector to set the Sheet size to 30" by 30"
Click on the Table in the sidebar to select it.
    Press Delete.
You'll be left with a 30x30 (or larger) blank slate on which you can place Text boxes, Shapes and graphics objects (including your large picture).
Thanks to Yvan, who has been mentioning the use of a Numbers sheet as a canvas foe some time now.

    Barry

  • IPAD3 - Pages: A document I've imported to Pages, has a table. Information in this table doesn't wrap over multiple pages, as it does in Word

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me out.  I'm producing meeting minutes, which have all the actions presented in a table.  For some of these actions, as they are so long, they span multiple pages.  Once I imported the document into Pages, it drops the table off the title row of the table, and then moves it to the next page.  It also doesn't extend the information in the cell onto the 3rd page, it just hides it behing the next cell, which is on the next page.
All the help links I've found give clear instructions as to how it can be done from a Mac, but I'm working off an IPad3.
    Please help...?

The version of Pages for iPad is kind of a stripped down version of the Mac version.  The iPad version has a terrible time with tables.  And if you import a doc from your Mac or PC Pages will try to make it as close as possible to the original but you will see some changes and if you have tables they do tend to get all messed up.  This has been my experience at least.  This is why when I need to be able to work from a doc from my PC on my iPad I try to use OnLive or OnCloud (I am a Windows user)
Or I try to use QuickOffice which does a pretty good job of importing docs and not messing up the formatting.

  • Placing a multiple page pdf over multiple pages in indesign

Ok so I do alot of "print presentations," when designing books or manuals etc
I have to place the spreads of the document into their own A3 pages in another indesign file
So I make a pdf with all the spreads I need.
Then I place the pdf and with import options say all pages.
But now I still have to click on each page where I would like to have the spread
How can I take lets say a 74 spread pdf and place it so that all the spreads go onto their own page all on the same spot?
Is it possible or do I have to place them all on their own?
Also how do I apply the same effect to all these pages, lets say a drop shadow and a stroke?
Please help, because this is very time consuming and deadlines don't wait.
    Thank you

  • How do I split a large image over multiple pages?

I need to produce and A1 sized retail poster, but do not have access to an A1 large-format printer.
I currently have an Epson Stylus R1800 A3+ printer, once I have created the A1 image in PS CS3, is there an effective way to split my image into four-separate A3 pages for printing?
    Any help greatly appreciated :)

You could do it in a Page Layout program like InDesign or Quark or an illustration program like Illustrator (I believe) or Freehand.
But look at all your Printer options first. Many printers have a Poster or Tile option that will do this.

  • Selecting All Images in a Document over multiple pages

    Hello,
Is there anyway to select all the images in a document, not just a spread.
For example, if I want to apply an object style to every image.
I can only do one page (spread) at a time
There was a post out there that started like this, but started talking about converting to outlines, so this part was never answered.
I was teying to find something through GREP, but nothere there either.
    Is this possible?
    thanks
    babs

    Oh bait. I like bait.
    for (a=0; a<app.activeDocument.allGraphics.length; a++)
         if (app.activeDocument.allGraphics[a].imageTypeName in {"JPEG":0, "PNG":0, "TIFF":0, "Windows Bitmap":0, "CompuServe GIF":0, "Photoshop":0})
    app.activeDocument.allGraphics[a].parent.appliedObjectStyle = app.activeDocument.objectStyles.item("test");
    //     else
    //          alert (app.activeDocument.allGraphics[a].imageTypeName);
.. and perhaps some more raster formats -- I don't know exactly which types ID distinguishes by name. You can find the type name per image in the Info palette -- it doesn't seem to differentiate between TIF and TIFF, for example. "Photoshop" is any PSD file.
An Illustrator file is tagged "Adobe PDF" (not weird, if you know how it works), and a placed InDesign page as "InDesign". Didn't find a real EPS quick enough to test that as well, but you could try.
If you remove the comment slashes from the 'else' part the script will show an alert for the image types it did not change.
All of these types are distinguished by type name only, you cannot check for a PDF only containing a single raster image, or a PSD containing vector info.

  • Dynamic table header/footer on multiple pages stay original

    hi experts,
i've got a form with a dynamic table. this means that i have a footerrow with mapped information if it should be visible or not. so the table can have from 1 to 40 columns.
i did some scripting in the table's initialize section:
loop over count of colums and set the headerrow, row1 and footerrow elements for index x to hidden.
everything works out fine BUT if the data spans over multiple pages the headerrow on pages 2 to last is original again. means that the hiding of cells is not effective any more. same with footerrow (but here its fine at last page and original at  page 1 to last -1).
i tried to hide cells again in layout:ready section for the other instances of the headerrow.
cells got hidden, but the still visible cells didnt relocate to the left (if i hide it, there should be no space between staying cells).
can anyone please give me a hint what i am missing here?
does anyone have a simple sample for this task? its all about the header/footer for multiple pages!
    thanks a lot!
    daapoo

When the footer goes to the 2nd page the page subform is incremented so you will have to reference the page subform as well. I suggest that you add a button (this is for a test only) to the footer subform and add the code app.alert(this.somExpression). Now render the form and make sure the footer stays on one page. Hit the button and take note of the someExpression. Now add enough rows to force the footer to a new page. Hit th ebutton again and take note of the changed somExpression. So to solve your problem you will have to find out which page your footer is on. and then construct your expression to incorporate this chane in expression. Note that the indexes are 0 based but the page numbering is 1 based.
    Hope that helps
    Paul
