Received the following error message when trying to refresh database action for planning application. Searched for this error message, but was not able to find any info.

never mind. Problem resolved. Issue result of a new dimension that was created that was marked as dense vs sparse when it was created. I am guessing there may have been some type of memory issue as a result.

We're getting the same error code on our Windows 2003 Server with Essbase and Panning (both 9.3.1) using the essbase api to create an outline.
Couldn't find any relevant entries in system variables.
We found a tip in an other forum, which says the block size should be between 8-100k but don't have a clue which block size could be meant.
Any idea?

I receive the following message when I attempt to refresh my planning applications: com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException: (1053022)
Any thoughts on how to resolve?

Sounds like the essbase database in read only mode, you will need to take it out of essbase read only mode before you can refresh planning.
This can be done with maxl e.g.
alter database sample.basic end archive;
Or maybe an export is being run so the database will be in read only mode so you would have to wait until it is finished.

Com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException (1060122) Error during refresh

Hello,
We recently upgraded our Hyperion environment from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 and we are getting this error
com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException (1060122) when trying to refresh a database. What does this error mean? Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

The error stands for :-
1060122 - Name [%s] too long for Non-Unicode mode server
Not sure why you are getting the error though.

Where can I download a trial version of Hyperion Planning and essbase?

I am new to Hyperion and want to train in it . Where can I download a trial version of Hyperion Planning and essbase?

Edeliver is where you go to download any of Oracle products. They are not trial versions. They are full versions. The license that you must agree to inorder to download them are for development and self-educational purposes only.
The main site is

From there you pick your language, identify yourself, and agree to the license agreement. Then, you select the product pack and OS of host system. Then, select the product you want to download. The products are splitup by component or modules. You must download everything you need. Foundation, Essbase, Planning, and Reporting and Analysis if you are going to do any reports.
Product pack - Choose Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System
OS - I use a 64bit OS, but choose the right one that you will be installing on.
Then choose,
Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (*11.1.2.0.0*) Media Pack for the OS you choose
Once you have downloaded the required packs, unzip them all into one folder. Merge the folders together and copy and replace all files. Put a check mark in the box that asks to perform this for other conflicts.
Once you have all packs unzipped, run InstallTool.cmd

When i am excecuting the interface i am getting the below error ODI 11.1.

Cannot obtain the connection from hyperion planning to Essbase

Hi,
Does anyone is familiar with following problem:
When I try for example create a new data form and than want to add member for a dimention the following error is displayed: Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator.
My Essbase is running and Eas is running as well.
Will be gratefull for any tips.

Has any of the essbase information such as server or account details changed since you created the datasource connection for the planning application.
If it has you will need to edit the datasource and enter the new details and restart planning.

Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 "Configure Data Sources" freezes at Essbase conf

Hi!
I am setting up a demo environment of Hyperion Planning for one of our customers (my first time installing this application). The platform is Windows Vista Business 32-bit. RDBMS is Oracle 10g on another machine. I've successfully installed Hyperion 9.3.1 Shared Services, Essbase, Essbase Admin Services and Planning application.
I've successfully configured all the applications (with the Configuration Utility) besides Hyperion Planning. I can access Workspace, User Management Console, Essbase Administration Services (and connect to my localhost Essbase server from there), etc - thus I believe that the installations and configuration of these modules is successful.
When I try to finish my Hyperion Planning configuration with the utility, the last step is to "Configure Data Sources" (previous configuration steps including "Product Instance Registration" were successful).
I start the configuration utility, select the properties, enter the Oracle db connection properties (no error there), then enter the Essbase connection properties (the same which enable me to add this server in the Essbase Administration Services, view and start applications, etc) and the installer just freezes.. hangs indefinitely..
Server: localhost
uid and password are the ones I provided during essbase installation/configuration
I've tried this configuration step multiple times, I've restarted the machine. The maximum time I've waited is ~30min.
Questions:
# Is it normal for the Essbase configuration page to freeze after clicking "Next" for 30min (maybe I'm just impatient, I'm new to Hyperion)
# What could be wrong?
# How could I see the error message - is there an error log somewhere?

Error While Creating Essbase Database From Hyperion Planning

Hi,
While creating the Essbase Database From the 'Manage Database' in Hyperion Planning, I am getting the following error:

It gets stuck at Adding Dimensions.
I have tried reconfiguring Planning, but no luck.
My Relation Repository is MS SQL Server 2005 and the Essbase and Shared Services are on a Linux box.

Have you tried restarting the services and giving it a try?
Which version of Essbase/Planning are you on?
If your Essbase server name has more than 30 characters, please use NODENAME with short server name.

Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3: Add New User

1:      When trying to refresh security filters using the workspace interface I get the following error(s) AND the essbase security file gets messed up (including, the native admin id).
I then need to login with an alternate id that does not have access to planning and refresh security using the eas interface ("Refersh security from shared services") to get essbase and native admin to work again.

2:      If I am granting access to users via groups, do I need to refresh filters from workspace for any users added to the group through shared services ?
3:     What happens behind the scenes when I do a "Refersh security from shared services" using EAS ?
4:     When accessing planning via workspace, the authorisation comes from Shared services ... right ? or is this stored in the relational planning DB ?

2. Yes, you have to refresh security filters,
3. Are you checking both refresh database and security at once: check this document: Error: "1051012 - User xyz does not exist." (Doc ID 987434.1)
4. Authorization comes from HSS, but the artifacts level security is present in relational database and (for members) Essbase as security filters.

Hi,
The first thing that stands out is that you are running on Vista, it is not officially supported and I know people have had troubles getting planning working with it.
The error message points to a problem with the connection to essbase.

I am new to Essbase and Hyperion EPM System 11.1.1.1.0, and I am currently trying to test Planning functionality. I have installed and configured the EPM system, and when I run the EPM System Diagnostics, everything is Successful except Connecting to Essbase Studio Server (which is a seperate issue for another thread).
I am trying to work with the sample Planning application included with the install. I followed directions here from John Goodwin's blog, but I encounter an error when I try to initialize the sample application. I have also tried creating the application through the Workspace, which is documented here. I get the same error when initializing the sample application.
The error message I'm getting says: "Failed to initialize Sample Application. Please see log for details." Where is this Planning log located? I am running on Tomcat.
When I try to create the database, following John's blog, through Administration > Manage Database > Create, I also am getting an error on step 18 of 21: [Consol] Verifying member formulas. The error reads:

What do I need to do to get this sample application up and running so I can see what it does?
How do I initialize the sample application?
Why can't I create a database correctly (without the error above) so I can then load data into the Consol database via the Essbase Administration Services Console? Currently the outline in EAS does not verify (it gives me the same list of member error messages above), and so I cannot load the sampleapp_data into the database. If anyone has any insight, please help. Thank you.

This was very helpful, but my problem of initiliazing and creating a functional Sample Applicaiton is not quite solved. I checked my outline in Essbase Administration Services, and received the same member errors I mentioned in my first post. It seems that my outline has member formulas that reference unknown member names (as you suggested), so these members with invalid member formulas are returning errors. I went in to all these members and manually changed the formula scripts to ; (semi-colon) and verified them.
After I fixed all the errors, the outline verified successfully. However, I still am getting an Error when trying to load data from sampleapp_data.txt file. The first couple times, my error was related to unknown members names that were in the datafile but not in my outline, like "FY08", "Plan", "BAS" (i'm guessing this is a currency?), and "Working". It gave me these errors one at a time, so for example, the first time when loading the data the error would read "Unknown Member in File [FY08]", then after i added that member to the outline it would go through a list of other unknown members one by one. Finally, when I manually added them all, I am currently getting this error message after attempting to load the sampleapp_data.txt file:
Parallel dataload enables; [1] block prepare threads, [1] block write threads.
Incorrect Number Of Column Members In Asymmetric File After [1] Records Completed.
Unexpected Essbase error 1003005.
I have the Oracle guide that describes what Essbase error 1003005 means, but the information isn't very helpful to me. The guide simply seems to suggest that I check to see that my datasource is valid. Since my data source is the sampleapp_data.txt file included with the installation, I myself did not create the data so I really don't know how to ensure that it is valid. Is it possible that when I downloaded the files, I got a bad version of the Sample Application database outline or datafile? I am unsure of how to fix this problem, as my goal still remains to test the functionality of Essbase and Hyperion Planning. If anyone can point towards a solution or towards another way to test out applications in Planning, please help. Thank you.

Hyperion Planning Urgent

Hi,
We have a planning application which was working fine since yesterday. When I was working in shared services on user rights, i was able to provision few new users.
After completing this process I tried to login into the Hyperion Planning Application but i got an error "Failed to sync with user provisioning. Check Planning log for details" However I am able to login with "admin" in planning but could not see planning forms because of non-availability of outline and variables in essbase.
I went into essbase to further investigate and noticed that there was no outline in essbase for the planning applocation.
I also tried to push the outlin from planning but it says that " verify that hyperion essbase is running and check your network connections"
I also restarted all the services but with no success.
Please help as this is urgent and we are into UAT phase and moving to production.

Network Error: Cannot Send Data (1042012) in Hyperion Planning

I am using Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1
I'm getting this error when i'm trying to refresh my Planning database.
Com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException: Network error [%s]: Cannot Send Data (1042012)
Any suggestions?

First make sure your essbase is up and running. If it is then:
Increase the values for NETDELAY and NETRETRYCOUNT.
Check the index cache size, data cache size, and data block size to make sure that they are within the recommended ranges.
