Combine Files issue

Why do my PDF bookmarks get removed when I combine files in Adobe XI? I have checked the options and the "always add bookmarks to Adobe PDFs" is selected. The original PDF files do have bookmarks.

Ok I got an update this morning and I am seeing more of my bookmarks (one from each individual PDF) however it doesn't bring over the detail? Any additional help?

  • Acrobat 8 Mac G4, G5 Combine files issue

We run Acrobat 8 Professional on a number of our machines (G4s & G5s) running OSX.
On the majority of machines, when trying to use the menu item 'Combine Files', the files can be selected moved to the dialogue box, but when the 'Create' button is pressed Acrobat crashes.
Does/has anyone suffer/ed similiar and know of a fix?
    Steve

Also, what version of OSX are you running?
Are you combining files over the network, or are the files resident to a solitary computer when you are combining?

  • Issues with combining files in Adobe XI

We have never come across this before.  We are trying to combine two pdf documents into one and once combined - information from the second documents is missing or put somewhere else in the document. HELP.

Text is missing.  the method is by using the "combining files into PDF" link in adobe acrobat XI.  This has never happened before and I have been using this function for all of the year.  If I insert in the opposite order the information stays correct but the order has to be the other way around.  I am not sure how to correct.

  • Problem with Funktion "Combine Files into PDF" on Samba Fileshares

    Hi!
When i try to combine Files from a Sambashare witch is connected as V: (\\Server\all_x) then i can choose the Files from the location but when i klick "Combine Files" after a while the ErrorMessage "Cannot open U:\_x\test.doc" Check if you have permission.
Why suddenly Adobe Acrobat will read the File form U: instead of V: ?
The Path before "Underline" (Underscore) was removed : "all_x" -> "_x"
When i renamed the Sambshare to allx without "_" everything is ok.
I can simulate this failure on every Windows XP Workstation. (SP3+all Updates)
    Adobe Acrobat X 10.0.0
    Samba 3.0.28-0.el4.9
Is this an issue in samba or in Adobe Acrobat?
    Update:
This only happens when an other fileshare exists with same name at the beginning.
    example:
    U: -> \\servername\alle
V: -> \\servername\allev or alle_v  (he underscore has no relevance....)
when v: is \\servrname\examplepdf or any other name exept "alle" at the beginning everything is ok.
    very strange...

Have you checked the preferences in Acrobat to see if they have gotten changed?

  • In Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, is there a way to set defaults when combining files?

My specific problem;  When I combine files, Adobe creates the bookmarks (which is desirable).  These bookmarks however, always seem to default on "page width" view.  I would prefer to have the bookmarks set to "fit page".  It is very cumbersome to edit each bookmark to reset the view.  (this is another issue which should be addressed as well).
My preferences already are set to view the files in fit page, single page, however this setting does not seem to transfer to the combined file.
Is there a way to globally set the preferences for this?  Even the settings during the combining function do not give options for the page view settings.

There isn't a way to set this during the Combine process but it's easy to change all the bookmarks in one go using the following technique:
Open the bookmark navigation pane and select all the bookmarks (be sure to expand all subbookmarks).
Right-click and choose Properties from the context-sensitive menu.
Click the Actions tab and choose Execute a menu item from the dropdown.
Click the Add button and choose View > Zoom > Zoom to Page Level and click OK.

  • Combine files to PDF and selecting files one at a time - Adobe CreatePDF online application

Are you able to select up to 10 files at one time through the "select files" browser window?  The instructions at https://www.acrobat.com/createpdf/en/merge-combine-pdf-files-online.html seem to indicate that you are able to select up to 10 items and then convert and combine.
"1 Sign in to your CreatePDF account online
2 Click on Combine files to PDF, then Select Files
3 Choose one or more files to merge into a single PDF
    4 Click Open"
At this point I am only able to select files 1 at a time, which means steps 3 and 4 repeat up to 10 times if you are combining the maximum 10 files at once.  I have tried using shift select and ctrl select to no avail.
Thank you for any help on this issue.

I think I found my answer at a different set of instuctions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/using-createpdf.html.  This set of instructions clearly indicates that files will be selected 1 at a time.
    Click Combine Files To PDF.
    Click Select Files.
Select one of the files that you want to combine.
    Click Open.
Click Add Files and select additional files to combine. Click Open."
If anyone has any ideas on how to more quickly combine files, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to open the document when combining files.

We have a user that gets an error when combining files. It says
    Unable to open the document:
    <Filename and path>
Please check to see if you have read permission for the above file.
    Retry and cancel buttons.
We get this error on every subsequent file, it works on the first one after the computer starts.
This computer has Windows Vista Business with SP2, Adobe Acrobat X with the latest patches.
It doesn't matter if the files are local or on a network drive, the same always occurs. I have cleared
all user and system temporary files, re-installed, verified the Acrobat Add-In for Word 2010 is active,
verifed the PDF printer is working fine. It only happens when trying to combine files. I have given the
user local administrator privilidges, tried with my account that has domain admin priviledges, no luck.
    I really need some suggestions...
    Thanks,
    Tom

I have found out from Adobe technical support that this is a known issue with Office 2010 SP1 installed.
This is an FYI for anyone else experiencing this issue, remove SP1 and it will work ok.
They said an update to correct this issue will be coming within the next quarter.

In acrobat 9 the "save as" dialog box auto populated when I combined files, in Acrobat X it creates binder1 and then I have to click file and save as.  Is there a setting that I am missing so I do not have to do the extra step of file, save as?

Please elaborate your issue and if possible then please attach the screenshot.

This issue orignally occured on Acrobat 9. I repair installed 9, then uninstalled and removed the Acrobat folder from the program data folder, rebooted and reinstalled 9. This did not work. Next I upgraded to 10 rebooted and attempted the combine and it still failed. I logged in as the administrator and tried again and it still crashed. I am not sure where else to go with this.
I am currently on Acrobat X Standard version 10.0.0
    You help is appreciated.

First of all, update to the latest version of Acrobat X.

  • How to retain numerical order (Of file names) when combining files in Acrobat (9) Standard

How to retain numerical order (Of file names) when combining files in Acrobat (9) Standard, please see the attached screenshot for a clearer explanation.
I understand that if we prefix all files with leading zero's this will probably resolve the issue but I just wondered if anyone new the answer. The ironic situation is that version 6 has no problem.
I have spent over an hour with techincal support who were unable to provide me with an answer

It is not clear how you are trying to do the order. Have you tried to select a set of files and then use the arrow buttons to move them in the list? If you select the heading, that will typically reorder the files by that heading and undo everything you had done before.
You should be able to select groups of files and move them up and down in the list. All of those options appear on your view, so what is the real question?

  • Combining files to create a PDF - stalls, then doesn't work

My organization has just pushed out Office 2013, and one person has had trouble when she combines files to create a pdf. At first, it seems like the process works, but when it comes to the "Merging Files" stage, it hangs up - it doesn't even finish converting the first file. It stays like this for a very long time, then a small pop-up comes up and says "Acrobat failed to send a DDE command."
The reason I bring up Office 2013 is because before we pushed it out, it worked just fine with either the 2010 and 2007, and now I'm wondering if this problem is occurring because of our recent 2013 installations.

    suicot,
Did you ever find a solution to this problem?  I have the same issues.  I can get maybe 3 files (word/excel) to start (slowly) converting then the the stall happens.   Also, Acrobat opens the word / excel application each time it attempts to convert a file, then word/excel freezes and I have to force a close.  What a mess!  (Windows 8.1 / Acrobat X Pro)

  • Combining files into a single pdf stopped working

I used to be able to combine files into a single pdf on my Mac using Adobe Acrobat XI Professional. Now when I select "combine files into a single pdf", I just get a short vertical line with a gray cloud around it in the center of my screen. Do I need to reinstall the program?

    Hi geolawrocks,
Welcome to Forums, I would be more than happy to help you with the issue but, i have few questions.
    1) What is the error message you get while combining files?
    2) When did it last worked?
3)Any changes to the application/OS that you made (Update)?
If possible, Kindly include the screenshot.
    Thanks,
    Vikrantt

  • Combine Files Function Fails

when trying to combine files, the process seems to work, but utlimately "Conversion Failed" message flashes.  Any ideas why?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, there was some issue with the "context menu" commands that occured during the last update. I called Adobe Customer Service and they fixed it by remotely accessing my computer. The also gave me a link which tells how to fix this if it happens in the future. I've copied it below just in case this happens to someone else. But thanks again for your reply!

  • Acrobat X - Std - Combine files

    Hello,
When we try to combine office files, doc and docx files, we get prompted to save the PDF and then MS word will open. Once that step is complete. The combine files dialogue appears and the process stalls after the 1st file is converted. If we kill the process, it stops without errors and adobe acrobat opens, without issue,  and displaying the PDF that was just created.
What could be causing the combine files dialogue to stall?
Also note, combining PDF works flawlessly.
    Thanks

    Hi Dave,
We receive hundreds of these files every few weeks.
We may have found the problem thanks to your first post.
Most of the files are "ESP Ghostscript 815.01", however there are a few that are "GPL Ghostscript 8.15".
If we exclude the GPL files, it works we don't have any problems.
Looking at ways to convert formats now.
    Cheers, Steve
