Combining 4:3 and 16:9 footage

Hi!
I have various footage that I want to put on a standard DVD.
The aspect ratio of some of this footage is 4:3 and some of it is in 16:9.
What would be the best way to get them all in 1 DVD without distorting any of it.

The only potential "gotcha" here is that on mixed mode discs (and Encore's abstraction Layer makes this painless for certain) when played back on an upscaling player and/or over HDMI, you may find the full frame footage gets stretched.
You really will be better off putting a 16:9 matte around every full frame asset in your NLE.
In Premiere, simply create a new 16:9 project, import your 4:3 footage andcheck it is correctly interpreted. Then export as a 16:9 film.

Combining 60 fps and 24 fps footage in one project

I've got a unique and confusing problem. I am trying to make a video that has a small amount of 60 fps played back at normal speed, soap opera effect and all, placed inside of a normal 23.976 fps project (full of primarily 23.976 fps footage).

The final destination for this project is YouTube, which now offers 60 fps uploads, so my final export would be at 60fps. If I shoot the rest of my stuff at 23.976, how can I combine the two so the normal stuff looks normal in a 60 fps export, and the 60 fps stiff looks shiny? If I drop 23.976 into a 60 fps project/export, won't it get choppy as hell in the final export?
I've got access to PP and AE CS6 and/or CC to get the job done.

Which sequence for a combination of 1080i and DV PAL footage?

I am editing a documentary where the majority of the footage is 1920 X 1080i (shot on a Sony EX1). There is some DV footage in there as well at 720 X 576 anamorphic.
If my sequence is set for the 1080i footage I have to scale up my DV material to the point where it looks unacceptable. Should I use a 720P sequence which would mean scaling my DV footage much less and shrink my 1080i footage for a 1280 x 720 frame? I assume there is no loss in quality in scaling down from 1080 to 720? My final output needs to be 1280 X 720 movie anyway so am I right in saying there is no point using a 1080 sequence on this occasion?
Also, downside of a 720 sequence with 1080 footage is that everything takes forever to render? Any ways round this?

Were it my project, I'd use a 1080i sequence and upscale the DV.
You are correct in stating your options. It's up to you which you choose.

Combining cropped 3:2 and 16:9 footage in 16:9 sequence, how letterbox?

I SWEAR I have searched through the posts (which contain a lot of 16:9 questions, to be sure) and have not found the answer.
From an HD shoot, I have 16:9 footage imported as DV and I've edited it into a 3:2 sequence with the Anamorphic 16:9 box checked in the settings. Also in the sequence are actual 3:2 clips, which I've cropped to fit the 16:9 aspect.
This is the offline edit (eventually we will recapture the footage uncompressed and export for HD 16:9 deliverable) but I need to create a DVD to show the client. I've tried copying the whole 5 min sequence into a sequence w/o 16:9 checked, then checking the box and resetting the aspect in Distort settings. Frankly, I think I'm missing something.
i need a 3:2 aspect Quicktime movie to export to DVD SP that has the 16:9 footage and 3:2 footage letterboxed - how can I do this? How much reedting is involved? I only have about 24 hours to solve this, so any help would be appreciated.

Did you create a 16:9 project in DVDSP? If you did and your material looks stretched vertically in the DVDSP viewer, make sure your asset is flagged as 16:9.
You won't see any letterboxing in DVDSP or in DVD Player as they will just display a 16:9 format screen.
Letterboxing of 16:9 material is done in the DVD player if the DVD player is set up for a 4:3 display. If the DVD player is set up for a widescreen display no letterboxing will be done. This is how it should be. So if you author your DVD properly you needn't be concerned about how it will display on 4:3 TVs as this is the DVD player's job.

I have iTunes on 2 PC's. Somehow I wound up with 2 Apple ID's. I would like to combine the music and apps under one ID so that I can synch with my iPhone 4 and iPad. Can this be done?

I think I will do this. I will use my apple ID and set face time and message to work independently. That solves one problrem. My other problem and maybe my bigger problem is that if I am using my apple ID, how do I iflter all of this so that my kids don't see my contacts, get my apps, etc. ?

Combining smart quotes and inch marks?

Dilemma! I have smart quotes turned on because I need them. I also need to be able to use inch marks in the same document. I have searched the Help files with no luck. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to have both smart quotes and inch marks in the same Pages document?

You can indeed combine smart quotes and the character that indicates inches, by using the appropriate inch mark character from the system-wide Character Palette. To do this, you will need access the Input Menu at the top right of the menu bar. If you don't have the Input Menu visible, go into the International System Preferences, in the Input Menu tab, check the "Show Input Menu in Menu Bar" option at the bottom of the panel, and check "On" for the Character Palette. This will put a little flag on the right side of your menu bar -- this is the Input Menu.
From the Input Menu, select the Character Palette. With the palette open, choose the Punctuation category. You will be presented with a wide array of punctuation characters, including proper inch and foot marks (which are actually "prime" and "double prime" marks, and are angled, unlike straight quotes). Select in Pages where you want the character to go, and then double-click it, and it will be inserted. The prime and double-prime marks are not considered quotes by the system, and so won't be curlified.

I regret that you're having trouble setting up your email, corbad! You're on the right track with your incoming email address. You might also try incoming.verizon.net or incoming.yahoo.verizon.net as possible alternatives, and 995 as the port number. Please let me know how that goes!

Husband and Wife trying to combine music libraries and share between all Apple technologies in the house.

My husband and I both have apple ids which we use to purchase music, movies etc... We want to combine our libraries and pull from the same. We've been doing this manually - but wonder if we can use the Cloud to support 2 apple ids or if we have to create a 3rd apple id / email and somehow transfer our individual music to the 3rd apple id / email. Creating the 3rd email / apple id will be a pain since we will never use this as an email. We need Help figuring out the best approach.

You can't combine two Apple IDs... I have the same problem I have an iCloud mail account and an Apple ID i use to purchase music with and I'd love a way to combine them. Apple has said in the past their looking into a possible way of doing this but I'm doubtful they will... :/

Wrong combination of Plant and Co code at the time of PO creation

At the time of creating PO when I am entering Plant and Company code system is not giving any error message if I am entering other Co code , i.e. Co code which is not assigned to the plant. I want an error message in case of maintaining wrong combination of plant and Co code.
Any suggestion ??

Looks like the screen is on it's just unresponsive and black obviously. Has anyone had this problem? I was updating via wifi right in front of my router and my computer.

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department. Her suggestions: change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers. So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue. It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more. Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department. Make them aware of this problem!

As of about 2 weeks ago the mac users can no longer read the page numbers they get a font error message and see only -- where the page information should be. The pc users do not have this same problem. When I replace our regular font (URW Grotesk) with a system font (Verdana) everyone is able to read the page numbers. This is a new issues, I have been creating these documents in the same way for years without a problem. I have been on hold and on and off calls for the last two hours, I keep getting hung up on once I find someone in adobe support to talk to!

How to identify combination of created and deleted Bank Details

I will develop a report similar to standard report RFKABL00. The requirement is to display the date, time, vendor number, vendor name, changed by, field name, company, purchasing org, new value and old value everytime a user make a change on the bank details (Bank Key and Bank Account only in XK02).
The content of field name will be either Bank Key or Bank Account with its corresponding old and new value. Using transaction XK02, I tried to replace the Bank Account of the vendor and saved the data. The created and deleted values can be found in CDPOS using: objectclas: kred, tabname: lfbk and fname: key; but it is difficult to identify the correct combination of deleted and created values. I observed that for non-key fields in LFBK table there are entries for old and new values but for key fields like bank key and bank account they have nothing.
How will we identify the correct combination of deleted and created values if there are many entries in CDPOS?

The function to combine pdf files and the function to add bookmarks stopped working in 10.x

We had VBA scripts in Access 2003 running with Acrobat 7.0 standard version to combine pdf files and to add bookmarks. The scripts worked fine. Now we installed 10.x and the functions stopped working. Does anyone share the same experience?
In the scripts, we just call the OLE object with the code like:
Set acroOrigPdfDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
Set acroNewPdfDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
Then we have the call "acroOrigPdfDoc.InsertPages" and "acroOrigPdfDoc.Save" to save the combined pdf files. All these functions work fine under 7.x. Under 10.x, they stopped working without any error messages.
Can anyone help me?
