Combining scored interactions and questions - navigation settings

I'm trying to get to grips with the way the Preferences > Quiz > Settings > Requried options work when my quiz combines both scored interactive objects and questions.
I'm currently using Cp4 but would be interested to know if Cp5 behaves the same.
Am I right in thinking that the effects of the different options are:
Optional
The learner can scrub back and forth with the playbar as much as they like without restrictions.
Required
The learner can scrub back and forth without restriction, but only up to the last slide with a scored interaction or question. To get further into the lesson they have to click any one of the previous scored interations, or submit a single question answer (wrong or right).
Pass Requried
I couldn't figure this out at all! I set a pass score, had a load of scored interactions and questions, but the learner could scrub right through the slides with scored interactions into later slides that weren't scored. Ah well, good job I'll be using the LMS to manage pass/fail
Edit: Oh, it looks like this only comes into play if I select 'show score at end of quiz' - you can only ontinue past the results page if you achieve the pass score.
Answer all
Learner can scrub to the end of any slide with a scored interaction or question, but to get to the next slide must either click the interaction or submit an answer (right or wrong). And if the next slide also has a scored object, repeat. Once they've 'unlocked' a slide they can scrub out and back into it in the same session.
Any observations on that?
Obviously learners won't be able to scrub back if backward movement/review is disallowed.
Incidentally, I did notice that the point Cp locks the slide seems on 'answer all' to have some very odd properties. If I removed the pause from the click box, or the learner clicks play at the pause, then it carries on into a kind of phantom frame - with no captions or slide background - but the click box still works, if you know where on the screen to aim for!
Does anyone know a way to modify that locking frame to provide some info for the learner on what they need to do to progress?
Thanks

Hi BrightonJon
For the back movement there is an additional field. "Allow Back Movement" (or close to that)
Required only mentions that you cannot skip until you have answered
Pass Required means that you have to answer it correct to continue
These are about single questions.
A locking frame often happens at strange places. I have it most often using advanced actions.

  • Quiz and question settings

    I am using Captivate 4. I want my courses to do the following:
    When the student comes to a question:
    ·         Before answering the question:
    o   I would like them to be able to use the Back button on the navigation bar to go back and find the answer, but I also want the Incorrect Message to tell them what the correct answer is. So, if I check Allow backward movement in the Quiz – Settings Preferences, they can answer the question incorrectly, see the correct answer, go back, then answer the question correctly. I can’t find a way to let them go back AND not be able to answer the question more than once in a session.
    ·         After answering the question:
    o   I don’t want them to be able to try answering again unless they get to the end of the course and click the Retake Quiz button or if they close the course and then re-launch it to try again from the beginning (I have the Quiz results and slide views option and the Slide View Completion 100% set in the Choose Report Data section of Quiz Reporting Preferences). This seems to work if I don’t Allow backward movement, but then they can’t go back from a question slide for any reason at all and that I don’t like.
    When the student fails the course:
    ·         I want the Fail message that I typed in the Quiz Result Messages to display on the slide that displays the results of the scores. The message is very important because it tells them what their options are if they fail:
    Sorry, you did not pass the course.
    If you want to retake the quiz, click the Retake Quiz button. DO NOT click the Review Quiz button.
    If you want to retake the course, click the X in the upper right corner of the window to close the course, then relaunch the course and take it again.
    I thought this was once working (I know I saw the message at some point in my testing, but now I never see it when I fail). THIS IS MY MOST IRRITATING PROBLEM! It does not display when I preview the course or when it is uploaded to our LMS. The Pass Message displays when they pass.
    ·         I DON’T want them to be able to go to the last slide in the presentation by clicking the Forward button on the navigation bar or the Continue button on the scoring slide becase that slide is a Congratulations slide and marks the course as completed in the LMS. This is working.

    It would seem that if they can authoritatively say "It is not set up to properly report completion" that they should be able to provide you with a reason for saying that... I'd ask, though I would be surprised if they give you any detail.
    Since it works for most folks, I'd suspect it's more of a Captivate thing in the way that CP reports to the LMS...
    Do you know if there's any correlation between the browser folks are using and the results they're seeing?
    Firefox can have issues with reporting sometimes:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/03/solution-to-inconsistent-lms-reporting-with-capti vate-scorm-courses-on-mozilla-based-browsers.html
    CP seems to want to send tracking data to the LMS on a timed basis, at least in some cases (I've yet to explore that in detail myself). Such timing can take a while to complete, it would seem, resulting in the issues you see (in other words, the lesson could still be trying to send info to the LMS so it's not completing...or users get impatient and close the window before it's done, so data isn't sent completely).
    See if the above link helps - either with the patch or switching 'g_intAPIType'...or a combo...?

  • How to combine Session Facade and Transfer object?

    Hello All!
    I'm working on an enterprise application. Presentation layer is a stand alone client, business logic is build on the Glassfish v2.1 and MySQL is used as a database. The client is connection to the GlassFishj server remotely using EJBs.
    I have problems with business logic architecture.
    Here is the brief description of backend application architecture design:
    1. Session Facade pattern is used to simplify the client and application server interface and to provide application layers between backend (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/SessionFacade.html).
    2.Transfer Object pattern to define update transfer objects strategy in order to decrease network overhead during client and application server interactions and to provide version control for objects. Transfer objects are designed as simple java business serializable objects. (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/TransferObject.html)
    3. Originally the backend application consisted of three modules: users, storage and orders, but at the end I have decided to divide my application into the following parts - assortments, map, menu, orders, transactions, users.
    4. All MySQL database transactions are via JDBC using procedures. No use of entity beans.
    Questions:
    1. I have some doubts about using Session Facade and Transfer object patterns at the same time. At first I'd mike to cite the definitions of the patters from the SUN official web site.
    * Use a session bean as a facade to encapsulate the complexity of interactions between the business objects participating in a workflow. The Session Facade manages the business objects, and provides a uniform coarse-grained service access layer to clients.
    * Use a Transfer Object to encapsulate the business data. A single method call is used to send and retrieve the Transfer Object. When the client requests the enterprise bean for the business data, the enterprise bean can construct the Transfer Object, populate it with its attribute values, and pass it by value to the client.
    * So, if I use Transfer Object along with Session Facade, it makes some difficulties with object version control, because I 2 or
    3 transfer objects controls with the 1 bean class. The best option for Transfer object Pattern is that each transfer object should have its own bean class to provide ability of object's version control. In the case it can bring the network overhead because of frequent remote calls caused by the large number of the bean classes.
    * So, should I use the both patterns? If yes, how to manage the interaction the patterns. If no, which one to use.
    2. E.g. I have a huge list of the Order objects and each Order object consists of other complicated objects. So, would I have trouble to transfer that list over network? If yes, how to manage it.
    Thank you!

    I would simply recommend establishing a service tier. Your services should be stateless. You can go the extra mile and have a session facade, but in the majority of cases, coding to an interface for your service accomplishes the same goals.
    2.Transfer Object pattern to define update transfer objects strategy in order to decrease network overhead during client and application server interactions and to provide version control for objects. Transfer objects are designed as simple java business serializable objects. (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/TransferObject.html)
    The idea of the transfer object is very similar to the Command pattern. I think if you investigate that pattern, it will be more obvious. The transfer object reduces network latency by consolidating all the parameters into an object, ideally, this also consolidates multiple method calls. If you combine a transfer object (or command object) with a service tier, you get the best of both worlds. The service can delegate calls to helper objects (or other services or components) using the data in the transfer / command object.
    3. Originally the backend application consisted of three modules: users, storage and orders, but at the end I have decided to divide my application into the following parts - assortments, map, menu, orders, transactions, users.
    The is your domain. It will vary from application to application. The principles above are more general (e.g., patterns and architectural tiers) and should apply to most domains. However, your actual use case may require something different.
    4. All MySQL database transactions are via JDBC using procedures. No use of entity beans.
    Consider using something like iBatis or Spring's JDBC templating to make your life easier with JDBC.

    Versioning is a separate issue. Generally, the more coarsely grained your transfer / command object is, the more changes are likely to impact dependent objects.
    Your command or transfer object does not have to be a vanilla JavaBean, where you are basically creating a bean that has data from other objects. You can simply use your command / transfer object to encapsulate already existing domain objects. I see no need to map to a JavaBean with what you have described.
    Generally, a method signature should be understandable. This means that many times it is better to pass the method, say, two coarsely grained objects than a signature with a dozen primitives. There are no hard and fast rules here. If you find a method signature getting large, consider a transfer / command object. If you want one service to delegate calls to a number of other services, you can also create a transfer / command object to furnish the controlling service with the data it needs to invoke the dependent services.
    2. E.g. I have a huge list of the Order objects and each Order object consists of other complicated objects. So, would I have trouble to transfer that list over network? If yes, how to manage it.
    This is a large, open-ended question. If you are going to display it to a user on a screen, I do not see how you avoid a network transfer with the data. The general answer is to not pass the data itself but rather a token (such as a primary key, or a primary key and a start and stop range such as you see on a Google search result). You do want to limit the data over the network, but this comes at a cost. Usually, the database will receive additional load. Once that becomes unacceptable, you might start putting things into session. Then you worry about memory concerns, etc. There is no silver bullet to the problem. It depends on what issues you are trying to address and what trade-offs are acceptable in your environment.
    Thank you!
    AstghikBest of luck.

  • How to edit the navigation settings using sandboxed code?

    Hello. I need to create web-provisioned event that changes current navigation settings to "Structural Navigation: Display the current site, the navigation items below the current site, and the current site's siblings".
    Currently I am using following code which does not work (I used SharePont manager to get the xml for _webnavigationsettings).
    public const string Webnavigationsettings = "_webnavigationsettings";
    public const string GlobalNavigationIncludeTypes = "__GlobalNavigationIncludeTypes";
    protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    SPWeb web = SPContext.Current.Web;
    const string webnavigationsettings = @"<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-16' standalone='yes'?>
    <WebNavigationSettings Version='1.1'>
    <SiteMapProviderSettings>
    <SwitchableSiteMapProviderSettings Name='CurrentNavigationSwitchableProvider' TargetProviderName='CurrentNavigation' />

    <SwitchableSiteMapProviderSettings Name='GlobalNavigationSwitchableProvider' UseParentSiteMap='True' />
    <TaxonomySiteMapProviderSettings Name='GlobalNavigationTaxonomyProvider' UseParentSiteMap='True' />
    </SiteMapProviderSettings>
    <NewPageSettings AddNewPagesToNavigation='True' CreateFriendlyUrlsForNewPages='True' />
    </WebNavigationSettings>";
    if (web.GetProperty(Webnavigationsettings) != null)
    web.DeleteProperty(Webnavigationsettings);
    web.AddProperty(Webnavigationsettings, webnavigationsettings);
    if (web.GetProperty(GlobalNavigationIncludeTypes) != null)
    web.DeleteProperty(GlobalNavigationIncludeTypes);
    web.AddProperty(GlobalNavigationIncludeTypes, 3);
    web.Update();
    I can do this with javascript but what about sandboxed c#?

  • Combined order based and delivery based billing

    Hey Gurus,
    We are using ZTAN items and ZTAD items on the sales orders.  We are trying to figure out how to combine these two together to create one invoice.  Can you guys help us with what the configuration should be in order do this?  I woudl like to knwo what settings I need to make in item category and also what settings need to be changed in the copy controls?  Do I need to change them for F2 and other settings in VTFA?
    Please let us know.
    Sincerely,
    Nina

    Hi,
    Delete the Assignment number and Reference number in the copy control at the header level details in VTFA.
    For this message and try it .
    We are using order based billing for the ZTAD items right now and using delivery based billing for the ZTAN items. So, to answer your question, we do want to combine these two together.
    I have tried setting the VTFA copy control settings to 001, and I still can't seem to get the two line items to combine.
    Note, I only created a new copy control for the ZTAD items.
    I looked to see if the header data was different and this was the log that was outputted but I can't seem to figure out what this means:
    Fld Name $000000001 $000000002
    Combination criteria in the bi 0013030 00330308000000064
    Assignment number $
    I am not sure how to analyze this. If you have any suggestions, I would be really appreciative. Thanks for all of your help Shivaji.
    Sincerely,
    Nina

  • Voice Over Navigation Settings

    I am having difficulty with the navigation settings in the Voice Over Utility. I would like to use VO to read a newspaper. I can read the heading of each article but not the text. So I want to select the article with my mouse and then let VO take over. I don't seem to be able to find the right combination of choices in the navigation panel of the utility. Could anyone help?
    Thanks. Mary

    Hi Archie,
    I just installed Leopard and see that the VO Utility has changed a bit, but I will wait until I get your advice before I experiment. I would like to use VO to read newspapers online, but I want to be selective and jump around a lot. I am able to see the headings but the content of the articles. So I would like to point to an article using the mouse pointer and cursor and have the reading begin. Then I would like to go to an article on a different page or section of the paper.
    In the Tiger VO utility, I was never able to select the right combination in the navigation panel. In Leopard, it appears that I would choose only "Voice Over cursor follows mouse cursor," right? And leave everything else unchecked?
    Thanks for your help. . .

  • WRT54G V8 abnormal setup story, and questions

    Seeing that they were on sale in Radio Shack, I bought one to replace the POS BEFW11S4, hoping that as a newer and widely used model it will have fewer design flaws.
    However, trouble began on the very first setup screen - using Web setup on 192.168.1.1 - where I tried to change the time zone from the factory default PST to EST. Clicking "Save settings" (or whatever the button is called) resulted in a totally empty white screen. I waited a little, but nothing changed, so I hit the "back" arrow. In short, the WRT54G was not remembering any of the changes I made - in any of the different setup screens, clicking "Save settings" resulted in a white screen and the factory defaults did not change.
    This was starting to look very much like defective Flash memory (or whatever memory they use to store the settings), but I decided to give it another try with the installation utility that came on its CD. This seemed to run well up to a point, where it said that it failed to install the English language pack (and why did it have to install it to begin with, I wonder - it was communicating properly in English to begin with), and that was that. The utility was not getting past this point. I opened the Web interface again, and found it seriously damaged - only two setup screens present, and no "Save settings" buttons on any of them. Resetting to factory default by any of the methods I looked up here on this forum didn't change a thing - the Web interface was permanently crippled.
    It was clear that the unit is defective and I'll be returning it, but I decided as a final try to run the Linksys EasyLink Advisor (found elsewhere on this forum) and see what it has to say. Well, it ran, and actually configured the router the way I wanted, and the router was working! However, the Web interface remained crippled, and that was decisive, since many of the advanced settings that I use have no controls in LELA.
    So today I exchanged the unit with another one, and will be setting it up tomorrow. I'd be interested in reading any suggestions you might have as answer to my questions:
    - Does my assumption that it was a defective unit seem plausible? I can't imagine that using the Web interface first can damage the firmware, all the warnings on the box and the unit to "run the CD first" notwithstanding.
    - In light of that, should I perhaps upgrade the firmware before I do anything else? (I downloaded the latest version 8.00.2, the one inside is presumably 8.00.0 (it was on the one I returned)).
    - Has anybody run into similar problems when setting up the V8? In particular, have they deprecated the Web setup in favor of setup tools like LELA and such?

    OK, here is the update. As I suspected, the first router was defective. The replacement unit has been up and running for some days now.
    Pros:
    - So far has not frozen from streaming video/audio traffic. This was one of the reasons I was looking for a new router to replace the BEFW11S4.
    - So far has not frozen without reason from just sitting overnight (another reason to replace the BEFW11S4).
    - Does not freeze instantly when UPnP is turned on (a third reason to replace the BEFW11S4), and UPnP actually works.
    Cons:
    - Absolutely no change in user features from the BEFW11S4, the setup menus are almost identical (excluding of course the new wireless options). I was hoping to be able to tell DHCP to give static IP addresses to specific MAC addresses; no such thing.
    - The firewall screen does not show the ports opened by UPnP; it only shows the static ones that can be setup by using the screen. In essence, you don't know the state of the firewall; that's bad. Maybe this is the same behavior as in BEFW11S4, but I wouldn't know - it could not work at all with UPnP activated.
    - There appears to be some mix-up in the router help screen for wireless security. For WPA2, it says "Choose TKIP+AES if you have both WPA and WPA2 devices on your network.". However, when I set WPA2 and selected TKIP+AES, the WPA clients could not connect; I had to set it back to just WPA. I don't think I was doing anything wrong, but I'm not 100% sure.
    - Just like in BEFW11S4, if I look at the DHCP client table from time to time, it empties itself; at some point it becomes totally empty. Combined with the lack of static IP, this makes using IP stuff on the local network (like Telnet or FTP) a PITA.
    - Not unexpectedly, IPX/SPX does not cross the wireless/wired boundary of the LAN, although it should. This is apparently a common problem with cheap equipment, and I'm not sure if it is actually the WRT54G's fault, or the wireless adapters'.
    That's it, more or less. Does anybody here know if any custom firmware for the WRT54G addresses these issues? But with my luck, it will be probably for the old hardware platform, not the new one in V8.

  • New MacBook Pro retina 13" arrived - first impressions and questions!

    My new MacBook Pro retina 13" arrived today, two weeks earlier than the promised delivery date. My version is the 2.6 GHz i5, 512 GB SSD and I maxed the RAM out to 16 GB, since there is no upgrade later. I also customized the keyboard, since I live in Japan but prefer the US keyboard.
    I posted unpacking photos and initial comments to my blog: http://lerner.net/new-macbook-pro-arrived/
    I want to talk about some of those points, and ask some more detailed questions here. I hope others find the questions useful.
    1. The keyboard is extremely nice. I like it better than the Bluetooth keyboard I have for my iMac right now. It has a nice feel to it.
    2. No dead pixels! As some of you might now from old messages, I get really paranoid about new Apple notebook computers. If I find even one dead pixel it gnaws at me and I call Apple and complain until they exchange it for a perfect screen. Well I’m happy to report that I went through thorough pixel tests in white, black, red, blue and green and all the pixels seem 100% perfect. Yay!
    4. The speaker seems quite nice. I played some music, and it sounded very beautiful to me, with good volume. I know some reviews of the MacBook Pro criticize the speaker quality, but it sounds as good or better than any of the speakers I currently have. I was quite pleased with that.
    5. The retina display is very beautiful of course. I don’t need to have it turned up anywhere near the maximum brightness. There is a very good illumination range.
    6. Because of the SSD drive, start up is very quick. Also it makes no noise at all. And it’s very light.  I’m glad I went for the 13 inch pro model. It was just a little bit more expensive, and just 200 g heavier. I can see this  replacing my iMac with the external monitor I bought.
    Some questions:
    Q1. Do I need protection pads for the hand rest to prevent discoloration over time? My old MBP 17" would get black-blotchey after a while. Eventually I got the top case replaced under AppleCare and protected it with pads. That was the late 2006 model. Is the construction material the same? Will my nice metal body lose its metallic finish and show dark blotches over time without protection?
    Q2. What are the best practices for battery use and sleep? My iMac is on all the time and only the display sleeps. I hear it's not best for the lifetime of the MacBook Pro to leave it connected all the time. Yet I need to run my daily CCC (Carbon Copy Clone) complete bootable backup, which runs at 3:30 am every day. So it seems I need to keep it plugged in all the time. Any suggestions here, regarding both battery charging and also turning it off vs putting it to sleep vs power nap vs leaving it running all the time like I do with my iMac?
    Q3. Is the "put hard disk to sleep when possible" meaningful at all for SSD?
    Q4. Is there a sleep indicator when the lid is closed? I didn't notice any.
    Q5. I notice I can view my iMac's music and TV library and everything plays instantly. That’s just wireless right? Because I have sharing turned on on my iMac I suppose. It seems as fast as if it were on my MacBook Pro though.
    Q6. A strategy question: I wonder if I should migrate from Time Machine and carry along years of garbage and wasted disk space, or just install and move things as needed. I'm tempted to do the latter and start afresh. Especially since a lot of stuff is in the cloud already: Evernote, Dropbox, etc. Initial installation of some apps, like Parallels Desktop and Office might take some time, but I bet I would save a huge amount of disk  space.  Yet the Migration tool which uses Time Machine is supposed to be good.
    I guess that's it for now.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Q6 (Migrate using Time Machine?)
    If you don't want to automatically bring over everything, I would use CCC to clone the old system drive and then use that clone to drag the wanted files onto the new machine.  I would treat that CCC clone as a read-only archive until you were sure there are no additional files you want to migrate.
    I use a combination of CCC and Time Machine to backup my Mac.  CCC provides the reliability of simplicity and quick booting should the internal drive fail.  Time Machine's incremental backups have saved my bacon several times when a file "disapeared" or I saved a modificaton that I needed to reverse.  However the complexity of Time Machine during full restores can be a problem.  I have had Time Machine full restores fail at which time I was very happy I had a second backup to fall back on.   It is prudent to maintain more than one backup.
    I agree completely about using the combination of CCC and Time Machine and it sounds like you and I use it the exact same way, and for the exact same reason. I hae also had Time Machine full restores fail (particularly with Apple Mail) and was very glad to also have the CCC backup.
    The only thing I'm concerned about is making sure I grab everything I need for particular applications. For example, I'm not quite sure what all needs to be copied over from CCC to the new computer for Office 2008, which I am still running. It might be easier in that case to re-install certain software.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hello NotAppleSavy,
    Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the computer wont connect to networks. I see you have used network diagnostic. I would recommend that you read this article, there are a lot of other things you can do in this article that may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • My complaints and Questions MP4 M4V video files and other complaints

    My complaints and Questions MP4 M4V video files and other complaints
    I have been scratching my head as to how to fix my problem and I found some answers and some questions along the way. First of all, I have a video that should be correctly formatted for my iPod. Its specs are:
    Kind: MPEG-4 video file
    Size: 19.4 MB
    Bit Rate: 125 kbps
    Date Modified: 8/18/2009 2:15 PM
    Play Count: 1
    Last played: 8/21/2009 12:25 PM
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
    Total Bit Rate: 360 kbps
    Video Dimensions: 352x264
    Video Codec: H.264
    F:\File\AnotherFile\A3rdFile\TheMovieFileInQuestion.mp4
    Wow that was a chore. Apple! Let us drag copy and paste our info tabs information so we don’t have to type all this stuff when we are having trouble. **another problem and suggestion** right there.
    Ok, back to the problem of the forum.
    From what I can see from http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html this file falls in line of everything required in order to be able to play on my iPod. It plays in iTunes fine but will NOT sync with my iPod. I get an annoying message that states, “Some of the Songs and videos in your iTunes library, including “BlaBlaBlaiPondFixYourJunkBlaBlaBla”, were not copied to the iPod “My iPod” because they cannot be played on this iPod.” Why oh why can iTunes play this video file but my iPod cant. Especially when the specs on Apple’s website say it can.
    So that was bugging me for a LONG time until I found my “Create iPod or iPhone version” option in the “Advanced” heading. Thank goodness this made my files playable on my iPod. Extremely LONG wait though. I know that other programs convert it in ½ the time. But times not to important as long as it gets done, (would be very convenient if it was faster though **Problem and suggestion**)
    Ok, now that I have used the “Create iPod or iPhone version” option it has slowly but surly converted my video. Ok, here is my main problem, the new file which is the result of the conversions information is as follows:
    Kind: MPEG-4 video file
    Size: 35.4 MB
    Bit Rate: 125 kbps
    Date Modified: 8/18/2009 2:15 PM
    Play Count: 1
    Last played: 8/21/2009 1:28 PM
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
    Total Bit Rate: 658 kbps
    Video Dimensions: 352x264
    Video Codec: H.264
    C:\File\WhyIsThisNewFileInMyMusicFolder\TheMovieFileInQuestion.m4v
    So basically it has made my file bigger *not a bonus in my book* greatly increased my Bit Rate *another interesting feature*, and I think the biggest change it has changed it from an .mp4 to an m4v.
    Why does it need to be an .m4v I could have sworn some of my videos were or are in mp4 which shouldn’t matter anyway because I was under the impression that iPods could play mp4 files. So that’s my biggest complaint and question. Why can my 80GB classic iPod not play my MP4 files and why am I forced to convert them??
    This conversion also creates 2 files in iTunes when I am done which is annoying because I have to go into my files info and look to see what file is the mp3 in order to remove it. Very annoying I can open my iPod options and see the files and some are faded (the ones it can not play) why can’t I remove them from that area.Suggestion Apple please make files that cannot be played on my iPod stand out some how for easier cleaning Suggestion. Thank you.
    Speaking of cleaning iPods, when I moved my entire library to an external drive I was faced with a terrible problem. “This file could not be found, would you like to locate file”, I was faced with this annoying message at least 600 times. Now I am glad that iTunes has a little “!” mark to show dead links so that you do some minor cleaning, Good Job iTunes No compliant there. However iTunes has no way of selecting all the broken files for major cleaning (like in my case). Going through and deleting over 600 files 1 by 1 is extremely time consuming and annoying. **Suggestion Apple please add more cleaning features for organizing iTunes**.
    Ok, speaking of organization now, another problem that appeared when converting my video files was that it put my new videos into the location where I have all my songs (my external hard drive) why can’t it put the new files in the locations of the original file? I have my computer highly organized and my original files were in that drive in that folder for a reason. If I could open my original file and skip the conversion, my iTunes would go to that specific folder to access the file which is fine. But now these new conversion files are elsewhere taking up space and disorganizing my computer. True I can go into the new location and move the files to where I want them (original location) but I don’t think I should have to hunt them down, copy, move, delete ect etc for all these files over and over. Very annoying, time consuming and should be unnecessary. **Suggestion Make file creation and location more customizable, and user friendly, your customers will love you for it**.
    Well since I have gotten into Apples iTunes and iPod problems that I have had to face I might as well bring up one or two more problems and suggestions. About a month after purchasing my iPod a sibling bought one as well. His however is way more convenient then mine. I suppose he has a 5th gen. so here is my question: why does he have a search option and I don’t!!!! Why does he get more features every so often and I don’t?! Why can’t Apple write some software for us classic guys which got the iPods going! It’s very annoying when I have to spend more time looking for the song then I spend actually listening to it, when he can pull his up in like 3-6 seconds? I highly doubt the hardware between our iPods is that dissimilar and even if they are why cant software be written for us. **Suggestion treat all your customers good not just the newer ones, and make some more features for the classics like me and my iPod.” We will be grateful for it I promise.
    Ok, I am almost done. Let me just recap my questions, I know my post is kind of lengthy.
    #1. Why can’t my iPod play MP3 video files? And why do I have to convert to almost all the same settings except changing it from an mp4 to an m4v. according to Apples own site I should be able to play .m4v .mp4 and .mov files!! Note: remember iTunes plays them fine but my iPod will not.
    #2. Would be much more convenient to be able to copy the information from the windows in iTunes so that problems and trouble shooting would be much easier. A little check on off options in iTunes advanced settings would be terrific.
    #3. Why is the conversion so slow? Please speed it, you have the power. Convenience is the thing that sells products.
    #4. Files that cannot be played on the current iPod need to be easier recognized for simpler cleaning.
    #5. Also make an easier way to select all dead link files for faster cleaning, deleting, etc. This one is important.
    #6. Make a user friendly way to change where my files are going to end up once I convert them for iPod more options and better customizable settings are need.
    #7. One of the most important is ADD A SEARCH OPTION. I and we classics will LOVE Apple for it.
    For you readers, I apologize for the long post, and any grammatical errors you might find throughout it. These are problems that I have faced with these programs and hardware and I wanted to make sure they got acknowledged and hopefully addressed. Any information about why I cannot play MP4 Video files on my iPod would be the best. If anything in my post gets answered that’s the one I want most. Will save me a lot of hassle.
    Thank you all and I look forward to your suggestions and comments. All are welcome and appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Bond, James

    Was playing with iTunes and thought of another suggestion! Let us play files in iTunes from an iPod! A friend or sibling should be able to plug his iPod into my computer open iTunes and play any of the files there. Many times I have wanted to show a movie clip or video to a friend, and I have the dock so I can do it on my T.V. but play it on their computer in their iTunes forget it. That would be a very nice feature as well so we can watch our movies at maximum size or listen to music on a better sound system, just another suggestion that would be nice. Thanks

    I performed a time machine backup without plugging my labtop into a power source. My computer died and all the settings were changed, ie the clock and date were changed back to 2001. So I tried to restore my computer using a previous time machine backup. (which I now know was wrong). However, when time machine tried to restore it said there was not enough room to do a backup. It seems that it did a half backup because some essential  files such as system profiler are now missing. Can I undo this restore...? What can I do to fix this

    You need to do a full system restore, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.
    If that sends a message, please note the exact wording.

  • I just bought this iPhone 4S second hand and during incoming and outgoing calls I can't hear the other person talk unless it's on speaker or if I have headphones in. I don't know what to do I've turned up my volume and checked my settings!! Need help

    I Just bought a second hand iPhone 4S I am having issues with the hearing during incoming and outgoing calls, I have turned the volume up and checked my settings but I still have trouble hearing the other person speak. It works if it's on speaker or if I have headphones plugged in. I need help desperately!!!!! Any suggestions on what to do???

    Hey Itsanaasaunders,
    Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues hearing sound while on a call (receiver wise, not speakerphone). The following resource provides troubleshooting steps for this symptom:
    If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound quality is poor on iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203800
    Clear the receiver
    The iPhone receiver won't work properly if it's blocked or dirty. Here's where the receiver is:
    Follow these steps, testing after each:
    - Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver, such as a case or film.
    If you have a new iPhone, remove the plastic film on the front and back of the device.
    - Check the receiver opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the receiver opening with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
    - While you're on a call, turn on speakerphone. If you still can't hear, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try calling again later or from a different location.
    Restart and update
    1. Restart your iPhone and test again.
    2. If there's still no sound or poor sound quality, update to the latest version of iOS.

    If you've tried these steps and there's still no sound or poor sound quality from your iPhone, contact Apple Support.

  • Black screen is in interactive and interactive text (console) mode

    I want to install Solaris 10 on HP Proliant DL380 G5. After installing drivers for Smart Array (from CPQary3.iso) I can't see this:
    "Starting Solaris Interactive (graphical user interface) Installation.
    You must respond to the first question within 30 seconds or the installer
    proceeds in a non-window environment (console mode)".
    The screen now is black in both modes: interactive and interactive text (console)
    If I don't install CPQary3 then graphical user interface works good, but "No disks found" :)
    What can I do with it?

    well the problem has been solved...hope this may help others having this issue.
    i basically just let the battery run out, then connected the ipod to my laptop and voila...it reset and all is well again...
    pretty random, but glad it is all working again.

    Maanasa..

    Maanasa,
    Welcome to SDN
    It entirely depends upon the project, on  your team and on the specs of the requirement....
    From interview point of view no body is going to ask u such questions, becz there is no specific answer for such question.
