Command for:  Access Mode for Result Set

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a command for "Access Mode for Result Set".
The default view for my characteristic in my query is "Characteristic Relationships".
I would like to have a command button for the user to be able to change the access mode to "Posted Values"
I have searched through all the commands but was unable to find this command.
OR if it is not available does anyone know the XHTML that I could enter into the web template.
Thanks in advance.

  • The operation is not allowed for result set type FORWARD_ONLY

    Hi,
    I am trying to use scroll insensitive resultset in following manner-
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("some sql here");
    rs.last();
    but the rs.last() throws this exception-

    This used to work with 7.5 version driver. Why this is failing with 7.6 driver, any clues?
    Thanks,
    Vinod

    Hi Vinod,
    due to performance improvement when using forward only cursor we changed the default for the resultset type from TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE to TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY starting with JDBC driver version 7.6. So I guess the exception comes from a statement where you didn't set the resultset type while creating it. Please check if all of the statements that you want to be scrollable have set the correct resultset type.

  • Does break work for result set ?

    while(rs.next())

    break is not working when i wanted to go out of while loop like above. how can i go out when condition matches ?

    Well this is what i learned and i'm learning in

    The "break or not" discussion has been around ever since, and there is no agreed-upon solution that says "always do it" or "never do it".
    You don't have to write nice code. The important
    thing is that you code's performance! This is complete bullshit.
    You client will never read your code, (only if it is
    open source or a script).But the guy who maintains it. Sorry, but this is really ignorant. Unclear code will lead to bugs that are difficult to find and resolve. "Optimizations" will lead to more bugs.
    This all leads to longer development time, late project and increased project and maintenance costs. Ask your customer if he really wants that.

  • How can I dynamically alter search spec for results set based on parameter

    We have defined a string parameter in BIP as p_lastName.
    We pass this to our RTF template in $p_lastName, definition in RTF as per below:
    <?param@begin:p_lastName;'%'?>
    We want to include this data in a table based on our dataset but applying the parameter as a search criteria - in the form of
    <?for-each:/DATA/XML/DATA_FEED/row[LAST_NAME= $p_lastName]?>
    Our issue arises if user does not enter any value in the $p_lastName. In this way the comparison becomes = '%' which will not return any records.

    I mentioned defaults in my first post. 'defaults' is the command line utility to set the maximum number of backups, and the key/value is clearly visible in the file, where I see no clearly identified key for the preference setting you seek.
    so you can type 'man defaults' into terminal to read the manual for defaults.
    Also in Logic 6 32bit application... and in Logic 7.2.3 (32bit application)

    BUT I Know.. for sure...I can adress 384Mb for core audio...
    I need to bypass the automatic ram adressing only and strictly focused to achieve 384MB just for CORE AUDIO!!!
    Right right right. I addressed that by typing:
    you'd have insider info to use that utility for the intentions that you have in mind
    If that preference exists, it is not public knowledge (to my knowledge). You would need to know a few things about the preference key/value to set or remove it.
    So, yeah - my original post covered it all, to the best of my knowledge.

  • BW Web Report Issue - Result set too large

    Hi,
    When I execute a BEx Query on Web I am getting “Result set too large ; data retrieval restricted by configuration (maximum = 500000 cells)”.
    Following to my search in SDN I understood we can remove this restriction either across the BW system globally or for a specific query at WAD template.
    In my 7x Web template I am trying to increase default max no of rows parameters, As per the below inputs from SAP Note: 1127156.
    But I can’t find parameter “Size Restriction for Result Sets” for any of the web items (Analysis/Web Template properties/Data Provider properties)….in the WAD Web template
    Please advise where/how can I locate the properites
    Instructions provided in SAP Note…
    The following steps describe how to change the "safety belt" for Query Views:
    1. Use the context menu Properties / Data Provider in a BEx Web Application to maintain the "safety belt" for a Query View.
    2. Choose the register "Size Restriction for Result Sets".
    3. Choose an entry from the dropdown box to specify the maximum number of cells for the result set.
                  The following values are available:
    o Maximum Number
    o Default Number
    o Custom-Defined Number
                  Behind "Maximum Number" and "Default Number" you can find the current numbers defined in the customizing table RSADMIN (see below).

    Hi Yasemin,
    Thanks for all help...i was off couple of days.
    To activate it I can suggest to create a dummy template, add your query in it, add a menu bar component add an action to save the query view. Then you run the template and change the size restriction for result set then you can save it by the menu.
    Can you please elaborate on the solution provided,I created dummy template with analysis and Menu bar item...i couldn't able to configure menu bar item...

  • Result set too large in BI report; Safety belt settings in WAD

    Hello All,
    When we run a BI report, the error " Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration" appears. We did a search on SAP portal and found the SAP note 1127156, whics recommends the configuaration of safety belt to limit memory used.
    Acoordingly the cust table RSADMIN has been configured. But on the web template side, we need to configure the changes as well. The note says:
    "1. Use the context menu Properties / Data Provider in a BEx Web Application to maintain the "safety belt" for a Query View.
    2. Choose the register "Size Restriction for Result Sets".
    3. Choose an entry from the dropdown box to specify the maximum number of cells for the result set.

    I am trying to locate these options in the context menu in Web Applications designer but in vain.
    Can anyone help...

    This option is not available in WAD, it will be available when you run the web template under settings, Data Provider for the standard template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN.
    If you have a custom template you will have to use the Dataprovider settings web item in your custom template to change the values during runtime.

    Hi,
    this is part of the Web Template properties. You can set them either via additional URL parameters, or change the corresponding Web Template in the WAD.

  • Result Sets with the Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle

    Howdy all.
    I have an Oracle database that I have migrated from MSSQL2K. My front end is mostly VB, and I have many (hundreds) DLL's that use ADO to access the database and execute stored procedures in the database. I cannot seem to get result sets from the Oracle procedures. I have tried passing a SYS_REFCURSOR as an IN OUT parameter, and I have tried returning a SYS_REFCURSOR in a function. The Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle does not seem to handle the ref cursors. If I use the Oracle ODBC driver, then ref cursors are handled sort of magically. Just like the result sets are in MSSQL with the SQL Server ODBC Driver.
    The question that I would like to pose to anybody willing to answer is this: Is there any way to use the Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle without changing the way I do the database access (using ADO connection/command/recordset objects)? I need the same DLL's to work on top of both MSSQL and Oracle.
    I know that what I want to do is possible using the Oracle ODBC driver, but this will take some major changes to some of my DB components. I am trying to stay away from this, but it looks like I am going to have to go that route - that is unless somebody wows me with a good answer to this post.

    As you are using Microsoft driver which works in XP and does not on Win 2003 you should post this on microsoft forum.

  • Displaying large result sets in Table View u0096 request for patterns

    When providing a table of results from a large data set from SAP, care needs to be taken in order to not tax the R/3 database or the R/3 and WAS application servers.  Additionally, in terms of performance, results need to be displayed quickly in order to provide sub-second response times to users.
    This post is my thoughts on how to do this based on my findings that the Table UI element cannot send an event to retrieve more data when paging down through data in the table (hopefully a future feature of the Table UI Element).
    Approach:
    For data retrieval, we need to have an RFC with search parameters that retrieves a maximum number of records (say 200) and a flag whether 200 results were returned.
    In terms of display, we use a table UI Element, and bind the result set to the table.
    For sorting, when they sort by a column, if we have less than the maximum search results, we sort the result set we already have (no need to go to SAP), but otherwise the RFC also needs to have sort information as parameters so that sorting can take place during the database retrieval.  We sort it during the SQL select so that we stop as soon as we hit 200 records.
    For filtering, again, if less than 200 results, we just filter the results internally, otherwise, we need to go to SAP, and the RFC needs to have this parameterized also.
    If the requirement is that the user must look at more than 200 results, we need to have a button on the screen to fetch the next 200 results.  This implies that the RFC will also need to have a start point to return results from.  Similarly, a previous 200 results button would need to be enabled once they move beyond the initial result set.
    Limitations of this are:
    1.     We need to use custom RFC function as BAPI’s don’t generally provide this type of sorting and limiting of data.
    2.     Functions need to directly access tables in order to do sorting at the database level (to reduce memory consumption).
    3.     It’s not a great interface to add buttons to “Get next/previous set of 200”.
    4.     Obviously, based on where you are getting the data from, it may be better to load the data completely into an internal table in SAP, and do sorting and filtering on this, rather than use the database to do it.
    Does anyone have a proven pattern for doing this or any improvements to the above design?  I’m sure SAP-CRM must have to do this, or did they just go with a BSP view when searching for customers?
    Note – I noticed there is a pattern for search results in some documentation, but it does not exist in the sneak preview edition of developer studio.  Has anyone had in exposure to this?
    Update - I'm currently investigating whether we can create a new value node and use a supply function to fill the data.  It may be that when we bind this to the table UI element, that it will call this incrementally as it requires more data and hence could be a better solution.

    Hi Matt,
    i'm afraid, the supplyFunction will not help you to get out of this, because it's only called, if the node is invalid or gets invalidated again. The number of elements a node contains defines the number of elements the table uses for the determination of the overall number of table rows. Something quite similar to what you want does already exist in the WD runtime for internal usage. As you've surely noticed, only "visibleRowCount" elements are initially transferred to the client. If you scroll down one or multiple lines, the following rows are internally transferred on demand. But this doesn't help you really, since:
    1. You don't get this event at all and
    2. Even if you would get the event, since the number of node elements determines the table's overall rows number, the event would never request to load elements with an index greater than number of node elements - 1.
    You can mimic the desired behaviour by hiding the table footer and creating your own buttons for pagination and scrolling.
    Assume you have 10 displayed rows and 200 overall rows, What you need to be able to implement the desired behaviour is:
    1. A context attribute "maxNumberOfExpectedRows" type int, which you would set to 200.
    2. A context attribute "visibleRowCount" type int, which you would set to 10 and bind to table's visibleRowCount property.
    3. A context attribute "firstVisibleRow" type int, which you would set to 0 and bind to table's firstVisibleRow property.
    4. The actions PageUp, PageDown, RowUp, RowDown, FirstRow and LastRow, which are used for scrolling and the corresponding buttons.
    The action handlers do the following:
    PageUp: firstVisibleRow -= visibleRowCount (must be >=0 of course)
    PageDown: firstVisibleRow += visibleRowCount (first + visible must be < maxNumberOfExpectedRows)
    RowDown/Up: firstVisibleRow++/-- with the same restrictions as in page "mode"
    FirstRow/LastRow is easy, isn't it?
    Since you know, which sections of elements has already been "loaded" into the dataSource-node, you can fill the necessary sections on demand, when the corresponding action is triggered.
    For example, if you initially display elements 0..9 and goto last row, you load from maxNumberOfExpected (200) - visibleRows (10) entries, so you would request entries 190 to 199 from the backend.
    A drawback is, that the BAPIs/RFCs still have to be capable to process such "section selecting".
    Best regards,
    Stefan
    PS: And this is meant as a workaround and does not really replace your pattern request.

  • JdbcodbcDriver uses the wrong charSet for interpreting the result set data

    Hi everyone,
    I?m having trouble getting results from a MS Access database which uses Greek characters. All the characters in the range 0-127 are returned good but I get ??? for all above 127.
    Here is some more details:
    OS: win2k
    Local setting for current user: Greek (not that it makes a difference)
    Default Language setting for the System: English (Astralia). This uses charSet Cp1252 or ISO 8859-1 encoding.
    Environment: JBuilder 7.0
    JDK: 1.4.1
    DB: MS Access
    DB charSet: Cp1253 (Greek encoding or ISO 8859-7)
    Connection method:
         java.util.Properties prop = new java.util.Properties();
         prop.put("user" , userName);
         prop.put("password" , password);
         //driver is "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver";
         //none of these work
         //prop.put("charSet", "UTF-8");
         //prop.put("charSet", "Greek");
         prop.put("charSet", "Cp1253");
         connection = DriverManager.getConnection(MY_ACCESS_DB,prop);
    DataSet Access method:
         // run query and get resultSet rs here
         char[] cBuff= new char[1000];
         // I have tried getString(), getBytes(), getBinaryStream also
         Reader rReader = rs.getCharacterStream(3);
         BufferedReader fIn = new BufferedReader(rReader);
         int res = fIn.read(cBuff, 0, 999);
         // contents of cBuff is incorrect here
    I have also used -Dfile.encoding=Cp1253 in command line which seems to change the default charSet of the JVM. Tested
         String en = new InputStreamReader(System.in).getEncoding();
         System.out.println("Default encoding: " + en);
    By enabling trace and looking at the content of the resultSet object it shows that
    rs.OdbcApi.charSet = "Cp1253"
    So I'm absolutely stumped. The only possible problems I can think of is either a bug in the jdbcodbcDriver or in my native ODBC driver. The latter is less likely since I connected to the same datasouce using a different application and get the right result.
    One more thing that may be helpful, if I set up the default charSet under Win2K to "Greek" (that is setting default language setting in Regional Options under Control Panel)
    Everything works fine.
    Is there anyone out there with answer to my problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Tried your program and it does exactly as I expected. I get a whole lot of '?'s with my OS default language setting on English but it works fine as soon as I set it to Greek. It does not make a difference if I change the "input language" on the language bar (shift+ctrl) to Greek or not. Or if I change the charSet in your program to something else. Which bring up the question what do you use the charSet setting on your program for? If it is for byte conversion, I don't think you need it since the OS default charset is used by ResultSet.GetString and that needs to be set anyway.
    Anyhow your program basically behaves exactly the same way as mine does. I am almost 100% sure that the problem is with the properties used (or not used) when creating the connections. There has got to be a (provider) property like "useUnicode" or "charSet" or something that is passed through jdbcodbc bridge to ODBC to MS Access to force it to return the result set in UTF-8 format. I confirmed this by using Visual C++ data access program that i wrote (which has the same sort of problem). All other MS Office products know about this property that why they work when i imort data from them.
    This means I don't have a jdbc or even a java problem but my problem is MS Access related. So Im going to post a question on an MS Access user group (if I find one) and see what I get). Thanks for your help with this.
    By the way AOKabc crashed once and froze another time. I think it had more to do with the libraries you are using rather than your code. I have a trace log if you are interested.

  • Oracle Coherence implementation for JDBC result set

    Instead of ORM, is Oracle coherence will support for accessing the data using normal JDBC calls?
    If it supports JDBC , what is the CacheStore implemetation for this?
    Can you provide me some example how to cache the JDBC ResultSet values and retrieve back from Cache?

    Hi,
    I think you mix up several concepts.
    user13266701 wrote:
    Instead of ORM, is Oracle coherence will support for accessing the data using normal JDBC calls?At the moment (up to 3.5.x), there is no way to query Coherence via JDBC out-of-the-box. There were a couple of initiatives to provide such features but they were not part of the product, only initiatives in the Incubator, but I believe they have been dropped.
    Upcoming releases may bring replacement, although I don't think it would be outright JDBC compatible, as that would imply converting an object-oriented data to result set so that you can convert it back, so it would in effect waste CPU resources.
    If it supports JDBC , what is the CacheStore implemetation for this?
    CacheStores have nothing to do with how you access the cache itself. Those are internal operations invoked by Coherence itself. Don't look for a relationship between querying the cache and doing anything with the cache store. The only relationship with them is that key-based operations on the cache may lead to operations on the cache store, but whether they do happen or not depends on the cache content, too.
    Can you provide me some example how to cache the JDBC ResultSet values and retrieve back from Cache?If I understand, that is yet a third concept. If you indeed want to cache JDBC ResultSet-s obtained from the database, then I have to disappoint you: it is not directly possible, as the ResultSet object is an abstraction over an open database cursor, and hence it keeps a database resource. Active resources cannot be cached in Coherence. You may acquire a RowSet from the JDBC driver, which would be possible to cache, however it may not be the most efficient thing to do due to possibly not optimal serialization format used by the RowSet to serialize itself.
    So if I did not answer the questions you wanted to ask, would you please explain in more detail what exactly you would like to do?
    Best regards,
    Robert
