  • Oracle Forms 9i / Windows 95

    Hi,
    I'm running an Oracle Forms 9i application via a web browser on a windows 95 machine. The Jinitiator version I'm using is 1.3.1.9. Throughout the day, I experience frequent PC freeze ups for no apparent reason, sometimes when I first log in to the application in the morning. (This problem is not related to memory)
    Has anybody know what might be causing this problem and how to go about to troubleshoot it?
    Thank you
    Hind

    It is not possible to upgrade all the PCs from Windows 95 at this point.
    You mentioned that Oracle Forms 9i was not certified to run on Windows 95, have any problems with this combination of products been reported before ?
    Is there some kind of write up from Oracle that I can present to my team to back up your recommendation.

  • How use oracle forms with oracle database  in a local computer network(client -server homogenious network)

    Hello experts,
                         I am new in Oracle forms.I am using oracle forms 11g with weblogic server 10.3.5 and oracle database 11g at windows 7 platform.
    I want to call my oracle forms(main  login form) from different computers(windows7) connected in a local network.My oracle database is installed in a server computer.I am not talking about oracle forms hosting in internet.I want to deploy oracle forms in a local computer network connected via LAN cable or wi-fi.
    thank You.

    In most cases you can copy the same entry found in the tnsnames.ora file used by the database.  In the database home, the file can be found in \network\admin.  Open the file and you should find something like this:
    yourAlias =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.0.100)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
    So in the above, you would need to set the alias (this can be anything you like), the IP address or hostname of the machine where the database is running, the port number used by the db listener, and the service name used by the db.  Most of this will already be set for you if you are copying from the database tnsnames.ora.  So you should be able to just copy and paste.  More information about the tnsnames.ora file can be found in the db documentation:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/network.111/b28317/tnsnames.htm

  • Performance problems on a Oracle 11G with Windows 2008 64bits.

    Hi everyone,
    I have noticed that our db is going low and low every week. My server has 16GB RAM and 10GB are dedicated to the Oracle database, this is a 11.2.0.1 with Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64bits. I like to know acording to the nexts values what you guys recommend to adjust in the init.ora:
    orcl.__db_cache_size=5402263552
    orcl.__java_pool_size=33554432
    orcl.__large_pool_size=33554432
    orcl.__pga_aggregate_target=3657433088
    orcl.__sga_target=6878658560
    orcl.__shared_io_pool_size=0
    orcl.__shared_pool_size=1308622848
    orcl.__streams_pool_size=33554432
    *.memory_target=10511974400
    *.open_cursors=5000
    *.optimizer_mode='RULE'
    *.processes=300
    Acording to the memory target on how values can be increased the processes, pga_agregate_target, etc.
    Also we have problems related to the bug Bug 9593134 that “Connections to Oracle 11g are slow and can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes.” there is a fix on linux by removing the dns names on it but anyone have experience on windows platforms?
    Thanks for all and sorry for my english.
    Regards.
    Arturo.

    Regarding the long connection times, have you tried using network packet capture software (such as Wireshark) to determine what the client computer is doing when a connection attempt is initiated?
    The Oracle Database time model statistics, along with the system wide wait events may help you diagnose the non-connection related performance issues (you should not just look at the statistics, but instead capture the current values, wait a period of time, capture the statistics again, and compare the changes in the statistic values). A statspack report might also help you - but a 10046 trace at level 8 or 12 is more appropriate if you are able to identify a couple of sessions that experience performance problems.
    I do not suggest just blindly modifying parameters, although I am curious to know:
    * Why the session level parameter OPEN_CURSORS is set to 5000 - do you expect a single session to hold open 5,000 cursors?
    * Why are you using the deprecated RULE based optimizer?
    * Why is the MEMORY_TARGET parameter used when the SGA_TARGET and PGA_AGGREGATE target are specified?

  • How compatible is Oracle forms with OCX / ActiveX components

    How compatible is Oracle forms 6.0 with OCX / ActiveX components?
    IFve got to very nice activeX controls (ctSchedule and ctMday)
    from DBI-TECH(www.dbi-tech.com) but they donFt work properly
    within Forms. They work great within VBA (word).
    Sometimes they donFt display things well or donFt react to the
    mouse in the properly manner.
    What can be wrong os is Oracle forms not 100% activeX compatible.

    Hi b w,
    I do not know much about Simply Accounting, however, if the Crystal Reports can be integrated with this software, then their tech support would be the best one to answer the issue with limited access to reports.
    Secondly, if you can get an ODBC driver for your Simply Accounting, you might be able to create reports in Crystal reports (Again with no guarantee as Simply Accounting does not fall in the supported platforms for Crystal Reports).
    I would suggest you to contact the tech support of Simply Accounting to know if there is any specific version of Crystal reports that works best with your software.
    It is simple to create highly professional reports with Crystal reports and you can either refer to the help included with the software or can log on to SAP support site and download the Crystal Reports user's guide to get step by step instructions on creating reports.
    Please do let us know if you have any further questions.

  • Oracle startup with Windows

    We have Oracle 10g (x64) installed on a Windows XP Pro x64 computer, along with ASM. When the computer reboots, both instances start up, but the database instance doesn't actually open the database on startup. So far, I've checked some registry settings (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_OraDb10g_home2) to make sure that autostart was set to true (which it was). I don't know of anything else to check or change to get the database to actually fully start with Windows. We're having this problem with several computers and I'm hoping somebody can help.

Oracle provides the ORADIM utility as mentioned already to manage oracle database services on windows. You can see the syntax by issuing the command on it's own in a cmd window - eg
    ORADIM: <command> [options].  Refer to manual.
    Enter one of the following command:
    Create an instance by specifying the following options:
         -NEW -SID sid | -SRVC srvc | -ASMSID sid | -ASMSRVC srvc [-SYSPWD pass]
    [-STARTMODE auto|manual] [-SRVCSTART system|demand] [-PFILE file | -SPFILE]
    [-SHUTMODE normal|immediate|abort] [-TIMEOUT secs] [-RUNAS osusr/ospass]
    Edit an instance by specifying the following options:
         -EDIT -SID sid | -ASMSID sid [-SYSPWD pass]
    [-STARTMODE auto|manual] [-SRVCSTART system|demand] [-PFILE file | -SPFILE]
    [-SHUTMODE normal|immediate|abort] [-SHUTTYPE srvc|inst] [-RUNAS osusr/ospass]
    Delete instances by specifying the following options:
         -DELETE -SID sid | -ASMSID sid | -SRVC srvc | -ASMSRVC srvc
    Startup services and instance by specifying the following options:
         -STARTUP -SID sid | -ASMSID sid [-SYSPWD pass]
    [-STARTTYPE srvc|inst|srvc,inst] [-PFILE filename | -SPFILE]
    Shutdown service and instance by specifying the following options:
         -SHUTDOWN -SID sid | -ASMSID sid [-SYSPWD pass]
    [-SHUTTYPE srvc|inst|srvc,inst] [-SHUTMODE normal|immediate|abort]
    Query for help by specifying the following parameters: -? | -h | -helpThe above from a 10.2 database install gives you the clue that
    1) You don't need to delete and recreate, you'll be able to edit the service.
    2) The current parameter for the password for sysdba access is -SYSPWD though in older versions it was -INTPWD.
    In addition you should certainly check the Oracle alert log for errors on attempted startup, and the oradim.log for errors encountered when the database itself is started by oardim (you'll find this in %ORACLE_HOME%\database . If I were guessing then I'd hazard a guess that the ASM instance was not fully open before the database was started. The alert log will tell you that.
    If you do find it's the ASM problem then a couple of solutions present themselves.
    1) don't rely on automatic start, but set the services to manual and then schedule a shell script at startup that starts the services using "net start servicename"
    2) Edit the OracleServiceSID to make it dependent on the ASM service using the procedure in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/193888
