Completely unresponsive touchscreen

I sent my Lumia 2520 in to troubleshoot the first instance of the completely unresponsive touchscreen in November 2014, just before the one year warranty expired. NOKIA took my device, labeled it "defective" after the inbound inspection. They then "repaired" it and returned it to me two weeks later.
Since then (and sadly, just days after the original one year warranty expired), on multiple occasions the touchscreen has become completely unresponsive. I'm now unable to turn it off or open the sleep screen to login. I've tried the home/power button reset option. Even that doesn't work.
Today when I tried to call their tech support at 888.665.4228, it rings once then times out in dead air.
If my device was identified as "defective," why did I not receive a NEW DEVICE as a replacement?
If the "defect" was repaired, at a minimum, the warranty for that repair should be extended to one year from date of repair, for the original owner.

Check the terms of the warranty which are usually provided as part of the documentation that you receive with the product, otherwise you can find it on the Microsoft web site for your country (warrsnty terms vary according to the laws of the country where the device is sold).
What you have received is normal service for virtually all major manufacturers: if a faulty device can be repaired, then it will be - you only get a replacement if repair proves impossible; and the original warranty does not extend after a repair.

  • IPhone 3g has unresponsive touchscreen and sleeper button...

Out of nowhere my iPhone 3G has an completely unresponsive touchscreen. The home button and volume control still work, but the sleeper button on the top has not been working for some time. I would really appreciate anybody's help or advice in this, thanks.

Sorry to hear that your iPhone is having so much trouble. Rare, but both these problems can be due to faulty Logic Board and therefore your iPhone would need to be replaced. More commonly however, it is not the Logic Board, and these can be fixed. The repairs are difficult and probably not worth the time or money, so a new iPhone is possibly the best choice. The sleep button repair is very difficult and requires replacement of the Headphone Jack Cable Complex (Flex Cable #5). The unresponsive touchscreen is a faulty digitizer. This can be due to breakage of the screen, visible or not, or can be due to Flex Cable #2 (Digitizer Flex Cable) coming loose from the Logic Board. If #2 is just loose, then Apple Genius at my store will reseat #2 to the Logic Board for free. If it is faulty, then fix is, replacement of Glass Front Screen with the Digitizer attached. Good Luck.

  • Xperia Z1 Compact touchscreen completely unresponsive!

If anyone could assist here, would be really appreciated.  My Xperia Z1 Compact touchscreen has become completely unresponsive for no rhyme or reason!  It had some sound output issues when upgraded to Lollipop which were resolved but today, I noticed that the SIM card slot cover was not closed properly so I opened and closed it.  Next thing I know the screen is totally unresponsive to touch or swipe. Displays fine.  Tried rebooting using power/volume +, removing SIM card, removing memory card, and then updating/repairing via Sony PC Companion (via USB).  Touchscreen is still completely unresponsive on booting up.  Please help if anyone has a potential solution.  I bought the phone just 6 months ago and was working perfect until Lollipop came along!!  Thanks much.

Hi Mutt, welcome to the community!
Rather than taking the phone to a Sony Centre, contact your local Sony Xperia Customer Care team to find out where their authorized repair agents are based and I am sure they will be able to organise for your phone to be sent in to be assessed under the terms of warranty. Am sorry to hear of the long wait you experienced last time.

  • IPhone 6 Plus completely unresponsive screen

I've had my iPhone 6+ since December, and the past few days for extended periods of time (3+ hours) my touchscreen is completely unresponsive. It's almost entirely random when it becomes usable again. I've tried the hard resets, and would do a plain shutdown if I had use of the screen, but alas, I do not. When it starts working again, it becomes completely functional and accurate. What can I do?

  • I'm running Windows 7 and occasionally, Firefox will become completely unresponsive and grey out, then none of my programs will open at all, including the Start menu, forcing me to use a hard restart and shut down. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not able to close and restart Firefox at all, since the computer becomes completely unresponsive, save for mouse input. Task Manager is also of no use.

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...

Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.

  • Qosmio 870 completely unresponsive

I have been using my Qosmio 870 for about a year and a half now and have had it repaired once for issues with the fan (although to the best of my knowledge nothing was done to it except wiping my hard drive). Then out of nowhere, while I was not doing anything out of the ordinary, it shut down. It is completely unresponsive (no charging light or screen light when button is pressed). I have tried the "drain" or "reset" method with taking the battery out and whatnot and all of its given variations. I encountered a reddit post of someone with the EXACT same problem (although a slightly different computer model) , I'll link for clarification:

From what I gather this is relatively rare and a problem with either the AC adapter or mother board. I am out of warranty on the computer and these are pricey to fix so if you happen to have encountered this problem or have useful information it would be much appreciated, Thanks.

You are right . this might be a possible ac adapter or MOBO.. im gonna pm you then

  • Hi, I tried installing the new software update to my iPod touch this morning, got an error message that I could not finish installing it, and now my iPod is completely unresponsive, please help? It won't respond when I plug it into iTunes or anything.

Hi, thank you for helping me! Every time I plug it into the USB port of my computer, there is an image on my iPod touch that shows a USB cord and tells me to plug it into iTunes, but it is completely unresponsive. I have tried holding the home and power buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds, and that does not do anything either. Any ideas? Thank you so much!

Do you remeber the exact (or close to it) wording of the error message?

Sounds like the battery is shot and in need of a replacement.  You can have Apple replace the battery for a flat fee or you can send it into a third party repair center for a bit less.
Not much else you can do for troubleshooting this one.

  • I need to get into my phone, but the screen is completely unresponsive.

I have the iPhone 4 and a few months ago, I dropped my phone and the screen shattered. Now the screen is completely unresponsive and I would like to access my contacts, texts, calls, etc.. Is there anyway I could get into all of that through iTunes or at least my computer?
It's been this way for about a week and the texts and calls are flooding in and I can't even let these people know my phone doesn't work. Which *****.
*I don't have the money to replace/fix my phone at the moment, so I need to find an alternative.
    Thanks.
    -TMB

You cannot access the phone via the computer. You could try and backup the phone and try and access the backup via a 3rd party software, however most of them cost. Touchcopy is a good one to see the texts, but I'm not sure it will allow you to look at the call lists.
I suggest you find a dumbphone so you can at least handle texts and call since you cannot afford to fix the device right now.

  • 2011 MacBook Pro 13" Keyboard and trackpad completely unresponsive. Only external devices work. Restarting does nothing.

Was in the middle of a game and the keyboard and track board became completely unresponsive. Was using an external mouse so I was able to restart the computer but it has done nothing to help. Also closed the screen for a while to no effect.

  • Completely unresponsive iPhone 3g, decides to work 8 hours later

So I have seen a lot of posts on people's 3g shutting down, but I have yet to find this exact behavior elsewhere although it happened to both my wife's and my iPhone.
I took my phone off the charging cradle (with full charge) last night, made a phone call, locked it and put it in my pocket. 10 min later, I was going to make another call and the phone was completely unresponsive. It would not even respond to a hard reset. I plugged it into my MacBookPro and the computer did not even recognize it and the phone would not charge, anything. I had a busy night so I set the phone aside and got back to it several hours later. When I did the phone was still unresponsive and it was warm as if it had been in heavy use. I then plugged it into the computer again and went to bed. Shortly after I woke up this morning (8 hours later) the phone turned on, completely dead and began charging. The phone now seems fine.
So if you have the behavior above, put it on the sync cradle and walk away for 12 hours or so and it might come back. This has happened once before to my wife's iPhone and as yet we have gotten no response from Apple as to what might be causing it. Right after my phone died I scheduled a call from Apple for this afternoon so if I get any solutions or information I'll post it here later today.

It was suggested to me that this may help you. I hope that it does!
Personally I'd do a 'reset' - it's something that's worth doing whenever you see anything 'unusual', 'unexpected' or 'unexplained', and although there are other 'deeper' remedies (such as 'restore' and 'restore as new', and DFU), a simple 'reset' (done every month or so too) seems to help to keep our iPhones healthy, even when 'Other' memory usage gets high or when there are poorly-developed Apps causing 'issues'.
I hope that it is not a distraction and helps with your problem.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox UI becomes completely unresponsive in debugging mode.

I'm using Firefox for web development, and set breakpoints with the `debugger` keyword, or the breakpoint UI in the "Debugger" section of the "Web Developer" tools. I remember that used to work on older versions, but recently it started failing.
Now, when I enter debugging mode (i.e. hit a breakpoint), the debugger UI shows, but it is completely unresponsive: the mouse cursor doesn't change when I hover over any widget, and clicking does nothing.
The only way to get any response is CTRL-r refresh which *sometimes* works, as well as closing the entire Firefox window. Of course, that means I can't actually use it to debug.
I'm on Xubuntu 13.10, running latest stable 64bit Firefox (3.1.1). I also verified the exact same bug on the nightly binary release (firefox-36.0a1.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2) as well as the recently released Developer Edition (firefox-35.0a2.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2).

    HI dunpealer,
Please do file a bug on this and make sure to put version 35 and os linux on bugzilla.mozilla.org.
I am sorry it took so long to get back to you, I also can reproduce this. If you have any questions about bugzilla we are happy to help here as well.
    Thank you!

  • Completely unresponsive... Repetitive showing of Apple. Hacked? Bricked?

I am, indeed, yet another confused iPod touch user, this time however, rightly so.
Before the issue occurred, the iPod was working, but certain things were not, I was unsure if it was my iPod, or simply a problem with the AIM servers. I had been using the application Palringo Lite to use AIM's IM to SMS feature. The returned messages were simply symbols and letters, completely random (was not base64). I figured it was AIM's encryption not working properly, so I simply called the person I was texting, and spoke for a few minutes. The issue seemed to be resolved after the phone call had ended.
My iPod's battery had reached the end of its life yet again, and my nearest charger was my 32-pin USB iPod connector. At first, I plugged it into my keyboard, I thought I'd get enough power through it to charge the iPod. It was plugged in for a few seconds when the apple logo showed up. It came up much faster than normally. I unplugged the iPod, as nothing more was happening with my computer, and I held the top button for two seconds. The Apple logo again appeared, remained for 16 seconds, and disappeared. Nothing more happened. I simply left it alone until this morning.
This morning, I tried again, returning the same results. My charger dock did the same thing. I then moved the iPod to my computer, plugged it into the keyboard again, and watched as iTunes spun the little beachball, sat unresponsive for several seconds, then continued working normally, not showing my iPod anywhere. This told me that iTunes recognized then rejected my iPod. I unplugged the USB end of the cable and plugged it into the back of my computer (iMac mid-2007). This time, iTunes did nothing at all. The iPod again showed the apple for 16 seconds, then the backlight shut off.
I tried holding both the sleep and home buttons down at the same time for 20 seconds, the apple again showed, and 16 seconds later disappeared.
My next step is to simply allow the battery to drain completely, and try again.
Any advice? Have I been hacked? Is my iPod bricked? Has it simply lived and died?

  • ITunes Store completely unresponsive

Anyone have any ideas why the latest version of iTunes makes the iTunes store completely unresponsive. The previews don't load properly and it generally hangs.
I'm pretty sure it's a problem at Apples end. Could be costing them a lot of money as it's been like this for weeks now.
Makes the iTunes Store unusable, for me anyway.

Unfortunately not. But I have the same effect for all of iTunes. This program became almost unusable. Hangs when trying to update Podcasts, hangs when trying to sync iPhone (G3), hangs when trying to access MusicStore, hangs, hangs, hangs,....
I have the impression, that Apple overloaded the Program with Apps, and Books and so forth. Hope they have a fix soon....

  • Everytime I put my Mac Mini to Sleep, Finder becomes completely unresponsive.  How do i fix this?

    Hi,
Everytime I put my Mac Mini to Sleep, Finder becomes completely unresponsive.  I've tried several Terminal commands to kill/quit/relaunch it, but nothing seems to work.  Once my Mac has been put to sleep there is nothing I can do to get it back after I have woken it up.  I always have to restart my computer, and even then, I have to hold the power button to shut it down because it will never fully shut down from the restart.  I have a feeling that Finder is still running in the background and not allowing the mac to shut down.  I'd rather not have to reinstall my OS.  Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this problem?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Hi Andrew, what all is connected USB wise?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for Sleep/Wake problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
