Compressing an infocube with agregate

Hi all,
I hade compressed an infocube with agregate.
In the infocube manage (RSA1), the compress status are OK (infocube and agregate), but the job compress run always, it did not stop .
Can you explain me the possible reasons please ?

Hi Keith,
RSA1 --> Your Cube --> right mouse click --> Maintain --> Tab Compression --> Select request till you want to compress --> Flag Marker --> Start compression.
It is a very slow process if you have a lot of request/data, try to execute when you have not jobs running.

Regarding Virtual InfoCube with Services

I have a general doubt regarding two Standard InfoCubes
We have two InfoCubes FIGL_C01, FIGL_C01, based on which we have two Virtual InfoCubes with services. FIGL_VC1, FIGL_VC2.
What is the necessity for maintaining these InfoProviders as we are already having the base InfoCubes on which we can derive the queries.
What is the basic use of Virutal InfoCube with Services.

At query runtime, the service of the virtual InfoCubes uses the data from the basic InfoCubes to determine the balance-dependent location of the financial statement items (contra items), in the financial statement version and presents the result in the query. From the technical point of view, the service determines the item indicator in the key for the financial statement items depending on the balance in the respective node in the financial statement structure.

Note 673564 describes exactly why the virtual Infocubes 0FIGL_VC1 and 0FIGL_VC2 were developed. (because BW cannot handle the FI fin. statement hierarchies)

Virtual infocube with services - division of suppliers in categories

Ive a problem and the idea to solve it with a virtual infocube with services. But unfortunately I dont know if its really possible to solve it like this.
The scenario is:
Ive suppliers, turnovers, goods (which have been delivered) and different quality deficiencies. In dependence of the turnover with each supplier, they will be ranked. For the position in the ranking they get points. From this start points one have to subtract points for the different quality deficiencies. In dependence of this end-sum, the suppliers will be divided into categories. And this division should be shown in the query.
But the suppliers can vary in each run of the query in dependence of the selection in the query. And the turnover of each supplier which depends on the selected goods can vary, too. So the division into the different categories depends on the selection and is dynamic. One doesnt know this before. And so it isnt possible to save the category of each supplier in an infoprovider.
Now I want to know, if its possible to solve this with a virtual infocube with services.
I hope theres somebody who can help me. Thank you.

Hello Susanne,
first of all, yes, it can be solved with VirtualProviders. But I wouldn't expect it to have a good performance. It depends on the number of data records we are talking about.
When you create a VirtualProvider you should make sure that the RFC Packing switch is flagged on. You can then get the selections in the tables-parameter selection with the structure bapi6200sl. Now you need to read the raw data for your selection. Either use the function module RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ or write the data into an ODS to simplify the selection.
Based on the raw data you need to do you calculation and write the data back to the table data.
For details of the implementation of the VirtualProvider and the function module you can check the SDN. These topics are also covered in my book ABAP Development in SAP BW - User Exits and BAdIs that was lately translated into English. Virtual InfoCube with Services - function module parameters documentation ?

I have been trying to use a Virtual Infocube with Services.
I have seen most of the posts in SDN, and read the documentation in http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/8d/2b4e3cb7f4d83ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm
I did not manage to find a precise description of the import
parameters of the Variant 2.
In particular, what is the meaning of the
i_tx_rangetab TYPE rsdri_tx_rangetab parameter. I read in the code of RS_BCT_FIGL_DATA_GET that it has to do with query columns. In the tests I did this table is alway empty.
Also, i_th_sfc gives you the list of characteristics used in the query. But it does not inform you on wether these are in the 'rows' 'free characteristics' or 'filter'. Is there a way of knowing that?

Your file is automatically compressed when using the CreatePDF service to convert from some other file type (e.g. Word, Excel) to PDF. For example, most PowerPoint files get compressed 50% to 90% over their original size.
If there is a particular file you're converting to PDF using the CreatePDF service, and you are not seeing the size savings that you would like, please provide more details.

How to fill a new single field in a Infocube with historical data

Hello Everybody,
We have an SD infocube with historical data since 1997.
Some of the infoobjects (fields) of the infocube were empty during all this time.
Now we require to fill a single field of the infocube with historical data from R/3.
We were thinking that an option could be to upload data from the PSA in order to fill only the required field (infoobject).
Is it possible? is there any problem doing an upload from the PSA requests directly to the infocube.
Some people of our team are thinking that the data may be duplicated... are they right?
Which other solutions can we adopt to solve this issue?
We will appreciate all your valuable help.

After Create InfoCube, a screen will appear for you to key in information/name of the InfoCube. There's a box "Copy From", insert the original InfoCube name you intend to copy from.
After successfully activation of the new Infocube. Return to your old InfoCube, right click on its transformation, click on Copy. A new screen will appear, here you will key in the new Infocube name in the Target of the Transformation field.

Of course, compression works on bytes, not some higher level constructs like Strings or files.
You can use the ZipOutputStream or DeflaterOutputStream for compression.
And the javadoc for Deflater even has a code example of compressing a String.

Copy of an InfoCube with Data

Hi,
I want to make a copy of an infocube with the data.
I tried creating the cube by copying it from the original one. The new cube got created but without data.
Can anyone please help.

Hi,
Actually you can try these options:
1. since you have created a similar cube with hope fully similar info source,
    then you can go to the info package and this time select your new cube
   as target and reload the data..
2. Other wise, generate export data source from the original cube, make a copy
    cube from the original durig the update rule creation for second cube select
    the souce as info cube and put the name of the cube..
3. Then go to the data mart info source area for copy cube create a package
    and then run the init/full load..

I am currently implementing a web page to be served by the NI sbRIO 9636. I was able to get html, css, and js served just fine. I am curious if there is a way to implement gzip compression to help with page load times?

Ok, a couple points:
I have heard it discussed that you can in theory install a webserver on the Linux-based cRIO. But there is a great big caveat: I have never done it, or spoken to anyone who did so I don't know how well it would actually work.
Given the inexpensive price of hardware these days a safer alternative would be to include a separate computer the sole function of which is to host the web interface. There are many small computers that would be ideal for this application -- many of which were originally designed to work in home-theater applications.
The point of my post was that there are certain limitations in the LV webserver that you may have to find your way around.

When updating compressed data Oracle has to read it, uncompress it and update it.
The compression is then performed again later asynchronously. This does require a lot more CPU than for a simple update.
An other drawback is that compression on highly modified tables will generate a major increase in redo / undo log generation. I've experienced it on an DB where RFC tables where by mistake compressed, the redo increase was over 15%.

Possibly this is all part of the trade-off that helps to explain why Oracle doesn't end up compressing the last few rows that get inserted into the block.
The effect can be investigated fairly easily by inserting about 250 rows into the empty table - we see Oracle inserting 90 rows, then generating a lot of undo and redo as it compresses those 90 rows; then we insert another 40 rows, then generate a lot of undo and redo compressing the 130 rows. Ultimately, by the time the block is full we have processed the first 90 rows into the undo and redo four or five times.

Is it possible to view Hebrew characters via a virtual InfoCube with services from an external database?
Requirement
Data which is physically stored in an external database needs to be shown in a SAP BW report to the end users. The movement of data must be avoided.
Concept
We use a virtual InfoCube with services in connection with UDC in order to retrieve data from an external database.
System Architecture
We use BW 3.5 and Web AS 6.40 J2EE on the SAP side. The external database is a Teradata database. All systems communicate in Unicode UTF-8.
Problem
The access of the data using SAP queries in this architecture works fine with regular Latin characters and numeric values. When we try to transfer a field into an InfoObject of the virtual InfoCube, which contains Hebrew characters in the external database, we are getting the following error message:
Messages:
Value '' (hex. '') of characteristic contains invalid characters
System error in program SAPLRRK0 and form RSRDR;SRRK0F30-01-
Can anybody explain this?

Hi Klaus-Peter,
Execute transaction code RSKC. In the "Permitted Extra Characters" field, input all your Hebrew characters and save your entries by executing the "Execute" icon.
Then go back and re-run your upload program. You shouldn't have any invalid characters again, provided you have added them all.
