Compressor 1.2.1 flat out broken?

I'm about to fire up TMPEnc Xpress 3 and QT's MPEG 2 exporter.
I"m wondering if anyone else is having these problems or if it's just me. I have goten Compressor to consistently crank out the same video file at the wrong length. It gets better. Each time I've imported it into DVD SP 3.0.2, the time code/duration of it is different too. Meanwhile at teh same time it seems to magically add anywhere from 300 megs to 800 megs of I guess filler data. On hte latest encode, in the Finder the file is listed at just over 4 gigs, no big deal, the AC3 file is 121 megs should easily work on a standard single layer DVD right? After importing the ifle is now 4.5 GBs, combine this with teh audio and i'm over the limit. DVDSP actually shows it ocming in at 4.8 GBs and refuses to burn it.
A few months ago, I did mixed angle authoring and foudn out that NOTHING from Compressor would work with DVD SP for mixed angle authoring. Meanwhile i log into here and i keep seeing complaints on Compressor 2.
Apple you have me wondering if Compressor is just plain broken. I hvae yet to get it to work for any of my projects for what I actually need.....
If anyone knows w*f is going on and my description fits a known issue please post. I cna't figure it out. i need to get this done and make the deadline, not sit here trying and doing diagnostics only to find nohting's wrong with my computer.
At this rate I don't dare upgrade anything, we all probably know how wonderful QT 7 works.
Confirmed: Opened source file and latest compressor output in QuickTime Player . Compressor output is 5 minutes longer and chopped off the end.
I don't mean to rant but come on Apple this IS SUPPOSED to be the pro level software here.

How are you trying to launch Compressor? Are you using the Dock or going directly to the Application directory? Try the latter if you have previously been using the Dock.
Next thing to check would be to create a new user account and see if you can access Compressor from there.
Do you see qmasterd in the process list when you run Apple's Activity Monitor utility? You need to select the show "All Processes" item at the top of the activity window to show this task (owned by root).
If you don't see qmasterd then it's possible that something went wrong during the startup of your system. Either that, or you still have an installation problem. By the way, you did restart the system after you completed the removal of Compressor and DVDSP. Also, did you see any warning about a security setting when you restarted after you reinstalled DVDSP? If you did, you should have selected to fix the security problem.
You might also want to check the console and system logs to look for errors related to Compressor or QMaster. You can review these logs by going to "About This Mac" -> "More Info..." -> "Contents:Software:Logs" (look on left side of the System Profiler window to see the "Contents:Software:Logs" selection). You may see several warnings or even errors in these logs, but just look for those that might be related to Compressor, QuickTime, or QMaster.

  • How do I deal with flat out lie in an app review in another country?

I just found out how to see reviews from other countries. So I picked Canada first and looked at one of my apps. There is one review - 1 star. The person claims I stole pictures from Flickr and used them in my app. This is flat out untrue.
I have one image in my app and I took it myself while on vacation, ironically while in Canada.
Since I live in the USA I can't log into the Canadian store and "Report A Concern" with the review.
Any idea on how to resolve this?
Anyone in Canada care to post a counter "review" clearing up the situation for me?
    Ugh.

To answer the general point rather than the specific question: this is a very good example why it's better not to read one's reviews! As we all know, the only qualification for writing a review is having a credit card with a billing address in the country in question. Anyone who uses the App Store will quite quickly realise that (a) the quality of the reviews is variable and (b) if someone genuinely had an issue of this type then he'd communicate directly with the publisher or with Apple rather than posting a pathetic one-star whinge.
In general I think we might all benefit if we all, as App Store developers, said something like the following in our product descriptions:
    1. We do not read or comment on our App Store reviews.
    2. We provide a public space where you can post comments and support requests, at http://xxxxxxxxxxx. We read every posting and respond to it in public.
This will not stop nutters from posting weird reviews, but it will make the readers of those reviews think: "if this is a problem, why didn't he post it in the publisher's comment space?" and consequently pay less attention to what the nutters say.
To focus a little closer in to this particular case: it's worth remembering that we are not politicians. Politicians are always anxious that any error or misrepresentation should be corrected "for the record". It seems comic sometimes but for them it's necessary, or someone will dig it out years later and say "well, if it isn't true that you said/did/thought this, +why didn't you say so at the time?"+ But we aren't politicians, and it's a lot easier for us just to leave a lot of stuff alone as being beneath contempt. I've also had reviews that claim the exact opposite of the truth (I know because people have told me about them) but in the end they're best ignored.
The review in question is pretty innocuous commercially, I don't think it would make anyone less likely to buy the application.
As for your own reputation: if you don't like Apple publishing accusations of theft against you, there is a law of libel and it is there for this purpose. Use it. Get the address of Apple's legal department and write to them. Invite them very politely to take down the offending material or publish a rebuttal. It will cost them a lot more to defend the case than it will to take down the review. I once found some stolen IP being offered through an Apple online store, and after a friendly conversation with Apple and one email, it was taken down within days.

  • The submit button in Compressor 3.5 is greyed out when i attempt to submit a batch

The submit button on Compressor (3.5) is greyed out and will not allow me to submit a batch.  This problem appeared suddenly with no changes made to the settings.  Final cut has been scrubbed from the mac and reinstalled, but the problem persisted. I have downloaded and installed the Digital Rebellion  patch with no success.  Does anyone have a fix for this?
    Thank you

I had the problem with Submit button greyed out...
Tried trashing prefs for Compressor. Nothing changed.
Tried "Compressor > Preferences. ... Enter IP addresses..". Nothing changed.
Then i had a look at System Preferences for QMaster .... and tried to work out if anything was wrong ( looked through the instructions for setting up QMaster:  http://documentation.apple.com/en/appleqmaster/distributedprocessingsetupguide/i ndex.html#chapter=5%26section=2%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:TempBookID-ReplacedWhen AssociatingWithMessierRevision-90620CRE-1015456.....
.. at the end of the "To turn on cluster controller services" section.. it mentions
    "Click Start Sharing.
The cluster is enabled, making this computer a cluster controller."
    So i clicked start sharing.
    Compressor now works fine.
    Hooray!
(i don't have any idea why Sharing had stopped.. i haven't updated Final Cut Studio or the MacOS recently)

I have an iPad 2 for less than a month, I updated the IOS to 6 about two weeks ago... It was great, up until tonight. My WiFi flat out won't work... and all the other laptops, iphones in the house are working fine.
Would LOVE to have it fixed.
Not very happy with Apple and this 'mishap'...
it does NOT have the cellular wifi, or whatever it's called. it's not capable of connecting to a carrier... just through regular wifi.

    1. Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again.
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Line Out broken.

    Hello all,
    I have a problem.
The line-out socket in my G5 is broken. I think it is physical damage (possibly caused by someone tripping on a wore plugged into it).
I am fairly technically minded, but thought I would check... does anyone have any experience with this problem?
If I said I was thinking about boring a bigger hole and replacng the sicket with a stereo 1/4" Neutrick locking jack socket what would people say? Possible?
    Any comments, suggestions, advice appreciated.
    Cheers.

Hi. As can be seen from page 112 here
    http://akserver.dyndns.org/macosx/hw/asm/PowerMac/PowerMac-G3-G4-G5/PowerMac-G5/ powermac_g5.pdf
the rear audio out/line out socket is mounted on the main logic board.
To facilitate access for inspection and repair, the rear exhaust fan assembly can be removed
    http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/073-0814.pdf
Personally - if the problem with the rear socket could not easily be fixed, I might be irresistably tempted to use the front audio socket. Good Luck.

  • Call  form   with out  broken image icon

Question: How can fit the tags of a <form> into a small
cell without the tags causing misalingment in the table?
I need to put a PayPal button on my site. The shopping cart I
was using up until now used only a link so I simply used hotspots
on button images. This new PayPal button sends information from my
site to PayPal with a <form>. The problem I am having is with
the elements in the red dotted form box ( yellow tags and broken

broken image icon won't fit into the small cell( 86x22 ) of my
sites menu bar with out misaligning the table of cells. I spent
considerable time building my menu bar from layers so I would like
    to keep intact.
The gray broken image icon shows because PayPal requires
that you copy the button image location directly from the browser
    webpage <input type="image" src="

I just was not able find it anywhere on the net.

  • Compressor 3.02 In and Out Points Not Correct

This is a follow up to my compressor truncating movies post. I'd like to reiterate that my workflow has not changed and no new software has been added to my system. This work flow used to work like a charm, however after the most recent pro applications update this bug surfaced.
If i drag and drop any uncompressed .mov into compressor, compressor incorrectly detects the in and out points for that clip and truncates the file on output. It seems to be by the same amount every time.
    Example:
Clip 1 is a 320x240 uncompressed .mov file created and exported directly from final cut pro (exported as self-contained). the file is 1:53:32 in duration.
Drop that clip into compressor and it sets the in-point at 59:56:09 (it does this every time no matter what clip i try to compress...) and incorrectly reports the duration of the movie as 1:53:05. these in and out times and duration are found in the preview window. no in and out points are set in compressor.
this being said, the resulting output file (same size, same frame rate - no changes to timing) is truncated and the last 4 seconds and change are cropped off the end of the clip.
Any ideas? anybody else have the same kind of problem and find a fix?
I've trashed preferences to no avail... help!
    karl

right - the question is... what do we do about it?
i have been able to narrow this down to a problem with footage that's 23.98 fps only however as this is part of my 24p workflow - and because it's the only reason i'm using fcp at this point -- in essence, this problem renders the entire final cut studio useless.
    so frustrating!
who's found a workaround/fix for this?? i've been using this same workflow successfully for years and in previous versions of final cut. this problem only surfaced in the past couple of weeks.
    AAARGH!

  • ITunes 7 flat-out will not open - NO error message, nothing

Same thing happened when I downloaded, I mean, was FORCED to download version 6. I had no desire to upgrade to 7 but I had to to download an album, now I click on the iTunes icon and nothing happens. I've seen similar discussions to this but they all involve error messages of some kind. I get nothing, don't know if that means my problem is different or not...I know I'm getting a little fed up with these coerced upgrades that then turn out not working.

now I click on the iTunes icon and nothing happens. I've seen similar discussions to this but they all involve error messages of some kind. I get nothing
a few preliminary questions, aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
    (1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
    (2) try opening your QuickTime for us. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) refuse to launch, with an error message? (if so, please tell us what it says.)
    (c) exhibit some kind of peculiar behavior? (if so, please describe the peculiar behavior for us.)
    (3) reboot the PC. launch your Task Manager, and click on the Processes tab. try launching itunes again.
does an itunes.exe show up in your Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

    Dear Moderators,
The Forum (ID=870) "Expanding your iMac (Flat Panel)" is coming up with 'Error' in both Safari and Firefox right now (so I don't think it's me).
This is also causing errors on the iMac Flat Panel Category page where no posts are being listed.

  • IPod Touch video out broken with 3.1.3

Anyone else experienced this? I updated to 3.1.3 this afternoon, and now when I plug my iPod into the dock in my LG Home Theatre the iPod displays a message about it not being compatible with that accessory. I get the same result when trying to output a video using the Apple branded component iPod cables.
47 hours remaining on the movie rental -_-;; would like to watch it on the bigger screen.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
What cable are yu using and what is the source of the videos?
Have yu tried another app that supports TV out?

  • Line Out: broken ground connection?

    Hi!
At home, I ususally connect my MacBook Pro with my stereo using the line out socket to listen to music.
Today, after coming home from work, I plugged in my stereo into the line out of my MacBook and all I got was some nasty buzzing. Just like if there was no ground connection between the Mac and my stereo. The internal speakers worked fine.
So I plugged in my headphones and started an AC/DC song. The guitars where OK, but the drums, the base and Bon Scott was gone. Yes I know, Bon Scott died some 30 years ago, but I mean: His voice could not be heard. The line out combined with the headphones now act like a karaoke machine, cancelling out the vocals.
Looks like there's no ground connection and the headphones are drawing all the current through the left an right channel, creating an out-of-phase cancellation effect.
Does anybody experience the same "lost ground connection" with their line out?

I don't have a mac, but am having a similar issue with my first gen iphone. Weird thing is for me, only headphones are affected (no center), while any speakers (line out) seem to play fine.

  • Flat-out not working.

Yo. I've had my iPod nano for over a year and it has always been pretty reliable. But recently, I took it out and tried to turn it on but it wouldn't. I don't remember the battery life being low, but I went home and plugged it in to my iHome to see if it would charge. Surprisingly, it didn't do anything. So I tried to charge it with my computer - still nothing. I left it plugged in to the computer still with no response. It just won't turn on. I've tried restarting it with the center+menu thing, flipping every switch and pressing every button, but nothing is working. Perhaps the battery has just died, but I'm not sure.
Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

My girlfriend and I are having this same problem. Her's is acting just like you said, won't turn on, won't recharge or turn on when plugged into computer or ihome. Mine will turn on but after that no buttons will work and it will just sit at the menu until it goes to sleep or the battery dies. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

  • Overloud's TH1 Amp Sim FLAT OUT RAWKS

Just PURCHASED Overloud's TH1 last night - and NO I didn't Pirate it either IT'S THAT FRIGGIN' GOOD! I tried the demo out a few weeks ago and was amazed at the sounds I was getting - sounded closer to real amps than Amplitube, Guitar Rig, etc. in my opinion. this baby RAWKS! Been using it in Garageband (Logic too) and it makes it all so much nicer...
There's a demo on their website to try for 14-days - test this thing out boys you might be amazed like I was. It talks about ILOK protection but I don't use ILOK's and I was able to install it just fine without it. It also uses a challenge/response type of activation for those who don't own an ILOK key. Nothing is needed to test out the demo and with my serial number (when I purchased it) submitted to their website along the small file it generated when I installed it - I was able to unlock it with ease - NO ILOK KEY IS REQUIRED.
    Here's the site:
    http://www.overloud.com
*I am in NO WAY connected to them.* I am simply a guitarist who enjoys amp sims and this one was well worth buying. The amps. stompboxes, cabs, etc are all amazing. The presets it comes with are endless and fully customizable too or simply build your own. I spent hours last night with it and am actually staying home from work today to PLAY! It's that good IMO. I love my real amps - I currently have 6 (including 3 tube amps) TH1 is not just a SIM - it's a room full of NEW AMPS.

    Hi,
I just bought the Overloud TH-1 today after playing around with the demo for one day. Every word you say is 100% true! It´s just the best sounding guitar amp simulation ever. Especially the hi-gain sounds are phantastic. The punch and the responsiveness feels like a real amp and it´s pure fun playing that baby. (I´m in no way connected to them, too! - I´m just that impressed) I´ve tested guitar rig, revalver, amplitube but none of them can come as close to a real amp as the TH-1.
A tip for those who want to test the baby: When you use distored/hi-gain sounds you will experience quite a high noise level. Just click on the word "open" in the top area of the th-1 to open the global controls. There you find a "gate" knob. Crank up that value just a bit and the noise is gone!
