Compton shadows issue

I use openbox WM with compton and when I move tab in google-chrome, I see ugly shadow:
How to remove shadows from this?
Last edited by LinX (2012-12-11 20:28:16)

I don't use a .compton.conf, but try 'i:ai:google-chrome', or 'n:ai:google-chrome'. Assuming it is a shadow-based problem.
The topic I was referring to is on the first page of Applications & Desktop Environments, and there's several relevant results on google: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=site%3Abbs.archlin … romium+tab

  • Illustrator CC Drop Shadow Issue

Since upgrading to Illustrator CC, I am having random issues with drop shadows. It doesn't matter if the shadow is applied to a basic vector graphic per screenshot attached, or to a placed transparent image, and it can be on complex shapes or very simple shapes. I get these odd straight lines running through the shadow. It is just a CMYK file (no spot colour), set up for print, document raster effects resolution set to 300ppi. I have tried fiddling with the drop shadow settings, if I move the x and y settings it just moves the line. If I keep the x and y distance the same but remove the blur value, the line disappears (see screenshot without blur). It is not related to transparency, because even if I flatten the image and expand the shadow, it is still there.

Dhirendra Mohan, thanks but it happens on all different shapes and sizes, irrelevant of stroke being added or not, but it is definitely linked to high resolution, larger files.
Raymarcher, I reckon you've nailed it. I did not have this problem with CS5 on the same size files but updating to CC has caused a lot of performance issues on my Mac. Photoshop CC has already told me to update my video card. I'm running:
    iMac 24" 2009 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4gb 1067 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 256MB
    Running OS X 10.8.5
Waiting on the next release of iMac before buying. Will just have to adjust the raster effects resolution in the meantime and will certainly try switching off other applications when working on large files and see if that works. Have never used SVG drop shadow but will read up thanks.
So problem not totally solved, clarification from Adobe that this would be the cause would be great, before I buy a new iMac please.
    Cheers,
    Julie

  • Drop shadow issue in Distiller 9.0

InDesign CS4 has 2-color title, which has Pantone Orange (spot color) and Black (Process Color). The design has two objects, first object has set as Pantone and second object has set as Black on top of the Pantone object and it has Drop shadow too. The drop shadow (Black - Process color) does not appeared on Pantone object while converting PS through PDF whereas the exported PDF from InDesign converted wonderfully. I have attached an images (turned on/off Overprint Preview) for your reference. You can see the difference when you turn on/off "Overprint Preview" in Acrobat. Also thin white rule appeared. Actually the rule should not appear in the PDF. Any help much appreciated.

What happens if you print one page with the drop shadow together with only one or two pages that don't have the drop shadow? What color mix are your drop shadows?  Like Peter suggested, check the corresponding compression settings in your distiller preset. Heck, check all the compression settings in those presets. I had to use PS to work around some issue once and distinctly remember a problem with the presets making my grayscale elements look low-res because compression was set too high in a preset that was supposed to be high quality.
Then again, just use Peter's workaround.

  • [Solved] Compton + Shadow + Hangout Chrome App

When using "compton," I am getting a shadow box around the chrome app which vanishes when I kill compton. I need to do a shadow-exclude for the window but how the heck do I figure out what the window information I need to add do the compton.conf for it to be excluded?

Have you tried clicking on the window using the xprop command?

  • IPhone 4s "Shadow Issues"

Hi, I recently took my phone a part, and repaired my iPhone with a new front screen. Obviously, that requires me taking my entire phone a part, and being very fragile with the parts. I put it completely back together, and my phone functions like every iPhone normally would. Then I noticed my home screen had a shadow like feature (it can be seen behind the icons). There is also a thin line stretching from screen to screen where the icon names/labels are. I have not been able to find the issue anywhere online. I have seen these issues on other websites, but whenever I went to copy and paste the image on a discussion board, the lines would not appear on my PC. Therefore, I'm thinking it is a screen issue. I tried restoring my phone, and had no luck. If anybody knows anything about the issue, please let me know! I can post more pictures if needed.
    Thanks,
    VIENS

I had the same issue with my new 64 GB iphone 4s (white) and AT&T service.
If I use the headset the phone works fine, but if I use the phone's built in microphone it does not work.
I could hear the other people talking but they could not hear me talking. This happened with both, calls from other cells as well as calls from landlines.
I bought the phone from an AT&T store, and when I tried to exchange the phone, they told me to take the phone to an Apple Store, which I think is ridiculous.  I bougth the phone from AT&T and expect them to exchange it in the store.  I returned the phone back to AT&T (no exchange)  and will wait to see what Apple will do about the issue before I buy another one.

  • [SOLVED] Compton + BSPWM issue.

Hey, so I'm pretty new to the whole Arch linux thing and so far have been super happy with everything. I spent my weekend getting Conky, Bspwm, and Bar set up just the way I want and I have only a few customizations to go before I have my dream desktop.
I've run into a small problem though, I'm trying to get compton up and running. I copied the compton.conf from Windelicato's repo, and installed compton.
Compton will actually fire up just fine the only problem is that it's completely unusable, all my windows and bar blink and flash and I can get a glimmer of what they look like but they are gone. It still responds to my commands so I can open a terminal and kill compton but I can't see myself typing basically at all.
I've checked over everything read the Arch Wiki page and even a HOW TO on using compton on XFCE and Ubuntu. I'm pretty stuck.
Rather than paste a gajillion lines of config files here I just uploaded everything to a github repo located here: https://github.com/ChasingLogic/dotfiles/
Thanks for your time and for your help,

Yeah, I am pretty sure that earsplit uses compton-git, which has far more features than the non-git compton.  So if you aren't using the git package, the config could possibly be trying to apply features that are either in their infancy (in that version) or don't exist at all.
Earsplit (Windelicato) frequents these forums, but you can also find him on freenode as well.  In fact he seems to always be in the #bspwm channel.  He tends to be very willing to help others with explaining his setup since his shit is so pretty.

  • [SOLVED]Compton, Conky and RXVT-Unicode not playing nicely

Hello. I'm having some problems making my desktop how I want it. My window manager is fluxbox.
First problem is just a minor inconvenience, but annoying. When I login, a transparent terminal spawns to my specification, but it is skewed.
    http://i.imgur.com/hrEEh3H.jpg
However, as soon as I open any window it fixes itself
    http://i.imgur.com/WXQZ9e3.jpg
Second problem is that I can't figure out how to remove the shadow under conky. I know that it is coming from the slit, but it just won't go away. I can get it to go away if I set conky to desktop instead of panel, but then when I launch any window it overlaps with the conky bar, and that is unaceptable. Maybe there is a fluxbox configuration option that reserves some space so nothing can overlap it? But I couldn't find anything.

using lowercase conky in compton doesn't change anything. I'm pretty sure that shadow is not from conky, but from the slit. When I set the slit to autohide in the init file, the shadow hides as well. And there is no shadow in any other conky window type I've tried, except type panel. Unfortunately, it is the only one so far with the behavior I want.
I would like to use true transparency in urxvrt, since that does solve the skew issue and I think it looks better. However, in doing so the terminal is quite useless since there is a lot of text that I can't see, because the font becomes the same color as certain backgrounds. Unless there is a way to separate it? I want it to look like the one on the left (left = fake transparency, right = true transparency).

  • Pages, printing: still problem with drop shadows . Frustrated.  :

    Hi -
I've spent most of the afternoon trying to get my Pages document to print properly.
I am experiencing the drop-shadow issue :heavy black clump instead of artfully placed& delicate. Printouts do not resemble what is onscreen or in preview etc.
Having read through the forums; the links; the (cruddy) Pages Help and manual; installed new HP offficejet all-in-one software...
I still get the same result.
Most of the threads don't quite fit my situation.
For instance: Several comments have to do with older versions of things. Because I do have Pages 2, I am on Tiger OS X10.4.7 , upgrading is not my problem.
One of the threads had fairly explicit directions to make a new filter in Coloursync which led all the way to a "change resolution" menu but didn't offer advice on what resolution
    modification to make. rrrrrrrr..
I am pretty lost at this point and really just want to print out a document that looks like what I have designed.
    What? How? Help! Please?

tried to print directly from Pages
If printing directly from Pages does not work then it must be an aspect of your printer. Some printers have a black and white setting that might not read shadows (which are more like greyscale) With the doc opened press ⌘ +p and browse through the options of the printer's pulldown menu and see if there are any settings that might be incorrect. (Check, in particular, your 'color sync' and 'print settings' options in the pull down menu.)

  • 3D feature inverting shadows and crashing

I recently updated my drivers from to AMD Catalyst 8.882 to AMD Catalyst 12.10 to promote stability in a 3D modeling program, Photoshop CS6's 3D function is now displaying inverted lighting information, i.e. shadows where light should be hitting and light where shadows should exist. If I try doing anything quickly, the program will crash.
I'm running Win 7 64bit on a HP Pavilion with an i7 multi-core processor with 8 gigs of RAM and with an AMD HD 6770M with 1 Gig of memory, set to fixed graphics.

This explains the shadows issue and provides a workaround:

  • Psc 1350 prints text with shadow in Windows 7

My all in one psc 1350 prints the text with shadow since I upgraded to Windows 7, the buttons do not work, but the rest does, any suggestions about how I can correct the shadow issue?
I tried to upgrade the driver, but with no success

My guess would be this is due to a color cartridge with misdirected nozzles.  Printing from PDF or a web page would print the text as a graphic which would use the color cartridge.  Try the following:  remove the color cartridge and print a page that previously was shadowed.  Does it now print correctly?  If so the issue is the color cartridge and running a cleaning cycle may help.  It is also possible that the color cartridge has failed electrically, causing it to fire nozzles inappropriately.  In this case a new cartridge would be required.

  • Lights in 3d intersection, shadow problem

    Hi,
When setting 2 shapes (plane) in 3D so that they have and intersetion (say 30degrees offsett), and one smaller then the other, when putting a light into the scene, to make the small one cast a shadow on the big on, the shadow looks good, but not at the intersection part. Why do I see shadow in the intersection, this should be just a clean intersection...
    Helge

I had some shadow behavior problems a few projects ago. While they were not the same as yours, I discovered that the "Shadow Softness" parameter on the light was making things behave improperly.
Try setting the "Shadow Softness" parameter to "0". That made things behave properly for me.
Apple has contacted me about this problem and I have provided them with my project files in order to help their engineers debug the shadow issues. Hopefully there will be a patch soon.
    Good-luck

  • Shadows... try to understand them...

Ok I've posted a few questions over the past 12 hours, ugh up almost all night playing with iWeb.
I'm making a website for a friend's who owns not only a "biplane rides" business but is also the manager of a circa 1920's grass strip airport (all very cool) I really want it to be "nice"... I'm struggling with the shadow option, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and I'm wondering if its me or the limits of the program.
I've used the shadow option on text and on pictures - with and without frames. However I have line that divides the FAA Nav information (elevation, open to public, FAA identifier, etc) from the body of the text on the page. It's just a single line. I'd like to add a slight shadow to that and the shadow option does not work. Am I doing something wrong or can you NOT put a shadow on shapes?
Another shadow issue - when make a text box and then go to inspector and go to the 6th "tab" on inspector with the square and circle on it... if I pick "stroke" and then line and pick one of the dotted lines to outline a text box (this box is going to feature "special discounts" so I want it highlighted). If I chose the shadow option there as I type it puts a shadow on the text. I don't want that, I want the dotted line around the text box shadowed. Can I do that.
Lastly, I'm using the Darkroom template (the Welcome one) and then trying to customize it some so its not too templatey looking. It has those pictures grouped together in such a way that they all have the same outer border... so when I try to put a shadow around that it does each picture individually (not to mention once in a while I "hit those pix and they move and screw up how difficult it was to line them up). Now that I have them set, can I group the pix together so they are one and then put a shadow around that outer border.
I'm sorry I can't put the site up yet for you to look at, its going to be on Godaddy and its not set up to upload yet (they said 24-48 hours).
    Susan

    Hello Susan,
    susan-kelly wrote:

Yes, you should be able to add shadow to shapes.
I want the dotted line around the text box shadowed.
No, it will add the shadow to the text. Put a rectangular shape over the text box and give the rectangular shape a shadow (it will shadow on all 4 lines, if you don't want that : add a line shape on top of the bottom line of the rectangular and add shadow to the line)
can I group the pix together so they are one and then put a shadow around that outer border.
Grouping : Not that I know in iWeb '08.
Instead of clicking on them individually to select them, drag your mouse over all of them so you select them all without risking to move them.
If 1 picture is overlapping an other (ex. behind the other), shadow will look messy.
A quick way to avoid this is by "masking" the picture that is overlapping.
    Kind regards,
    Leo
PS : you may want to publish your website to a folder on your computer just for testing with different browser as not all of them understand the command "shadow"

  • Macbook 2011 dark shadow bottom screen

    Hello,
I have a MacBook pro 13 from 2011 and I have recently started to see vertical dark shadows at the bottom of the screen. They are not always there but I can't figure out if they appear at a specific time\battery level\ecc. Sometimes they are flickering as well. They kind of look like this: http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/MacBookProDisfigur edView.jpg
but they are not as pronounced.
Does anyone know what they can be due to?
