Compund path or white text ona red background with a drop shadow

I have had business cards printed before with white text on a red background & the white wasn't 'punched out' (compound path) of the red so the white didn't print - the solution I was given was to create a compund path in illustrator before saving the PDF to punch the white out of the red & that worked fine ...
I now have dilema in that we want to get some flyers printed that have red starburst with white text over them but they also have a drop shadow behind the red star burst so if I punch the white text out of the startburst the drop shadow then appears through the starburst & the text is no longer white it is the drop shadow gradient from the background - i do not know how to get around this???

As long as your white text isn't set to overprint, you should be fine.  Just place your text in front of your starburst and look at your attributes panel to make sure that overprint fill and overprint stroke are not checked.
I'll bet if you go back and look at the file that gave you trouble in the past, overprint fill is checked.

  • White text on red poster?

Hi, I am somewhat of a newbie at using InDesign and was wondering if someone could enlighten me about white text on a coloured background for print.  I have a poster that is red, with white text.  Do I need to do anything special besides just clicking on the white colour for my text?  I have heard people say "anything white that's on top of a colour needs to be knocked-out".  What does that mean?
    Thank you!
    J

Presuming you are printing the red background, not using red paper, just select [Paper] for the fill color of the text.
[Paper] though editable to simulate different colored paper stocks, is a special non-printing color that means "Knock out everything in this area and show the paper." Normally it appears as "white" because that's the default color (and we mostly print on white paper) but it will leave an area without ink on any color stock you use to print.
This is in contrast to the [None] swatch, which is the equivalent of putting a piece of clear acetate over the page. In areas where there is no other ink, the paper will show through, but any object behind a [None] fill will be completely visible -- not much good for text unless you are looking to do an outlined effect with a colored stroke and no fill.
If you are actually printing on red paper and want the text to be white you will need to print the job on a printing press and create a SPOT color swatch for white ink. Set the mode to CMYK and push all the sliders to 0. It will look white on screen. Either edit the [Paper] swatch to resemble the red of your paper stock (remember, [Paper] does not print) so you can see what things will look like, or add a non-printing red frame as a background. Remember that printing on colored paper is different from printing on white. All of your colors will be darker, with a reddish cast, on the finished piece, and it is very difficult to preview on the screen. Some colors may not show up at all.

  • Need Red background with white lettering?

I'm trying to create a document A4 with a complete RED background - no margins etc just as a borderless print - i then want to print some large text onto the RED background in White text.
I cannot for the life of me find out how to do it - any ideas please
    thanks

Place a rectangular object onto your document, and size it the way you'd like. Open the Inspector and choose the Graphic tab. Change the color to the shade of red you like. Select the Text tab in the Inspector, click in the object with your mouse and type your text. Finally, change the color of your text to white

  • Package search? white text on light background

as the title says on the archlinux home page in the package search i have light text on a light background. anyone else got this. its fine in aur

*Change to a light gtk theme
*There's some code that you can add to userContent.css if you search the forum
*Use the stylish extension and install a theme for the arch pages. Look in Community Contributions or search userstyles.org for arch website and you'll find it
*Stare really hard and make out the white text on a cream background
*File a bug in flyspray and get the website changed
*Press ctrl+a to select all so that the text gets highlighted.
I'd go with editing userContent.css to avoid this problem on other sites too.

  • ITunes wont open. Error message has no text just red octagon with !

I plugged in my iPod this morning which is set to automatically launch iTunes. A window came up after several second but there was no text telling me what the error was.
The only thing showing in the window is a red octagon with an exclamation mark in the middle. Overlapping the bottom right portion of the octagon is the blue iTunes cd icon. There is also a button allowing me to close the window.
The system appears to be unaffected by this. I have tried running permissions, deleting the plist from Preferences, rebooting, but the same window keeps popping up.
Can anyone tell me what type of error this is and how to fix it?
I'm running a 1.42 GHz, G4 Mini with 1 GB of RAM. My iTunes music resides on an external firewire drive with the library files in the Music folder on my hard drive.
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm getting the same problem.
I have no iPod. I can quite iTunes. I tried restarting. Same result.

  • How do I change beige tabs with white text to beige tabs with black (or some other dark color) text?

Classic Restore changed by FF 29 tabs to beige with black text on the active tab and to beige with white text on the other open tabs. The white text is not visible. How do I change the white text to a darker color?
If this cannot be done, is there a way to reinstall FF 29 with just the security updates (and not all the other gimmicks) so that I can retain my FF 28 settings? Thank you.

    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to Classic Theme Restorer, click the Options button.
    # Click the Custom Colors tab, then the Tab (active/hover/default) tab below that.
    # Below Tab (active), check "Text", then click the color swatch and pick black.
    # Click the Tab (unread) / New Tab tab.
    # Below Tab (unread), check "Text", then click the color swatch and pick black.

  • Thin white line around black .ai logo and drop shadow question

    Hello,
There's a very thin white line all around a black .ai logo I made when placed on a color background. It shows up in printing and acrobat (PDF % compatibility) too. Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps.
    Thanks
Running OS10.4.11 In Design CS3, intel mac.

Is the logo rasterized in Illustrator? It sounds like something was antialiased against a white background.
    >Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps
No. EPS does not support transparency. If an area is not fully transparent (because nothing is drawn there) then it is fully opaque. PDF and AI support transparency.

  • A image with a drop shadow on a shaded background

When I make a copy from my color printer of my PDF that has a image with a grey drop shadow on a grey shaded background. I get a shaded box around the image. This does not happen when I print from my b&w laser printer. The PDF was exported from Indesign, I had digital prints from the Indesign file and they are ok.

  • PDFs printing with black background and white text.

For some reason some of our PDF's have been printing with black backgrounds and white text, even though they appear to be normal on the screen before they are printed. I haven't been able to confirm 100% yet but it appears to only be happening with pdfs that were created from scanned documents.
Can somebody please offer me some suggestions.

Absolutely agree with the original poster.  I find white text on black background so very very difficult (I changed from using Tweetbot on iOS to Tweetlogix for this very reason) and it physically hurts my eyes to try to read it.  I can just about manage with Spotify using white text on a black background on the large screen of my MacBook Pro - and I do mean "just" - but for the smaller screen of my iPhone 5 it is just impossible.  Even with a retina screen such as that on the iPhone 5S there is a strange ghosting effect and it gives me a headache to look at it for too long.
This may be something to do with age!  I suspect most app developers are youngsters with almost perfect eyesight, but for those of us whose eyesight is less than perfect, this white text on black background really is so very difficult.
I know there is a workaround in setting the iPhone to invert ALL colours (under Accessibility in Settings) but it's a real pain to have to keep altering this setting every time I want to open or close Spotify, and it doesn't look right anyway.  iOS7 is supposed to be a light, bright, easy to read OS - sadly this new Spotify app is the opposite of that.
Please would Spotify consider adding a simple light or dark theme option, so that those of us who want it can have our much easier to read light background back again, with grey or black text?  It would be a great help to those of us who have eyesight problems.
If not, I may have to cancel my Spotify Premium account and move to Deezer instead, as I mainly use Spotify when out and about in the car, so am using the iOS app a lot.
Thank you for considering this plea!

  • Black background and white text physically hurts & creates ghosting. Please add UI color toggle.

    Hi,
The new white text on black design physically hurts my eyes and gives very bad ghosting (i.e. persistent image like those in optical illusions that make you stare at particular color combinations and then look away). I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've researched it in the past. Without an option to switch back to the old design (White background/black text), I'll need to delete my Spotify account and find another service. Please add an option to switch between the two (because I know many prefer black backgrounds). Myself and a host of others, however, cannot use these color combinations. Please let me know if there is a work-around; it would be much appreciated. It's basically unusable to me in it's current state. :(

  • Kernal panics black and white text as well as regular KP screen

Bought a used Powerbook Alum 15" 1.5 mhz. Almost continually having kernal panics. Started out being just the regular ones, and could not trace it to anything special, so after DW said there were problems with the HD, installed a new one. Helped for a while, but they began again. Tried to do software update tonight and it kept killing and having KP. It's gotten so that a restart gives me a black screen and nothing else. Complete stall. After 4 or 5 tries, finally got a boot to finish. BTW, always got the processor bong, but nothing else. On a java update tonight, got the we are hanging KP. then another, which I copied in full.
KP tonight was all white text on black background, as follows. Sorry if I missed some caps:

I know this is a lot of stuff, that I know zero about, but does this mean anything to anyone? Can you suggest the next step I might take to track down the issue? TIA
    Melinda

Probably I can't be of too much help since I can't read panic logs, but here is an article on resolving kernel panics in general:

Have you tried reseating your RAM? I have heard that RAM can be a factor in kp's.
    Good luck!

  • Black drop shadow bleeding onto white text during printing (but looks fine on screen)

For my business card design I have white text overlapping an area of very white grey- causing readability issues (insufficient contrast). It looks great apart from this one problem, so I still want to keep my white text and light background and fix it by separating the text and background with a darker drop shadow..
First, I added a black drop shadow to the text- but this was not enough to increase readability (text still looked faded on background as drop shadow was too subtle at 85% opacity, 0.04" blur) so I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow (100% opacity, 0.02" blur + 18% opacity, 0.02" blur). This produced a heavier drop shadow effect for my text as desired but, for some reason, the text came out slightly grey in print (offset run). It seems the drop shadow somehow got printed over the text itself to some extent- turning the white text somewhat grey (and so not looking as clean as intended).
How could this dropshadow bleed into the text happen? Is it to do with the fact I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow? I would have thought that, even then, the text should entirely overlap all of the drop shadow as the text is the top layer in the group.
What can I do to ensure that drop shadow does not print over text in any way in future? Do I have to stick to only one layer of dropshadow-or is there something else I'm missing?

One way this could happen is if the white fill of your text was not with 100% opacity.
Also, do you see a whiter place than  your text on your business card? It could be the color of the paper if you are comparing with the white of the image on screen without proper color management.
