Concatenated Prompts in OBIEE answers

Hello All,
Can we have Concatenated OBIEE Prompts in Answers(Not in Dashboard)
ex: Vendor_Number || Vendor_Name..
it has to be displayed in this way when the user runs the request. either can go into the DB to process the request. This is something like Lookups in the Oracle EBS we have Value -- Description
Can we achieve this in OBIEE if so How?
Please help me.. thanx in advance.....

Could you explain more clearly what your aim is here, is this a saved query to which users have access through Answers? If so why is prompting necessary when they will have access to the query criteria.
You can concatenate the columns in the column formula, a filter on that coulmn would then require the value entered to be a valid concatenation of the two columns.
It seems like an odd thing to do in Answers though, rather than a dashboard.

The only alternative is.. use dashboard prompts and show the reports on dashboard.
But it displays the static filters given for the report also.How to display only the dynamic filters in filters view?Yes, this is the expected result. To display only dynamic filter values in report then use Narrative View, with custom text

How to bring ALL option in Table prompt in OBIEE Answers result area?

Hi All,
This is my requirement. For example, Please consider scott table. There is a column called DEPTNO. I am taking DEPTNO,DNAME,EMPNO,EMPNAME for display. If i edit the table and move this column DEPTNO to Table Prompt section. I am getting a drop down list with the following list of values 10,20,30,40 there is no option all. If i need to get the option ALL What i need to do?

Hi Deva,
I got the extra ALL in my DEPTNO Column which included all the values of 10,20,30,40 but when i move this column to table prompt after getting the option ALL and when i choose ALL it is showing the below error:

How To Give a Validation In Prompt(OBIEE Answers)

I ahve the promt like
Name----------------<text box> Go
if i enter the name then the prompt will effect on the data.
if i didn't enter tha data in name textbox it should dispaly a meassge like:please enter a valid name:
here name comling from backend database to obiee answers
can u please tell me how to sort out this-----------------

Hierarchy Prompts in OBIEE 11g

Hi All,
I have an Issue with Implementing Hierarchy Prompts in OBIEE 11g. I understand that Filters on Hierarchy Prompts can be applied in Selection steps and cannot be viewed in the Physical Query as such. However, what happens is, the Hierarchy prompt only gets applied when the hierarchy is displayed in the report.It is not applied even when it is present in the excluded section. So, it works only when it is displayed in the report. Is this correct? Is there any workaround for this?
Any help on this would be much appreciated

If the column set to prompt no matters what (column is present,or not, excluded or hidden) the prompt should work.
Check it again something might gone wrong.

Image Prompts in OBIEE 11.1.1.5

I am able to display an image as a logo on an analysis using the fmap notation... say fmap:Images/myimage.jpg.
However, I am unable to use the image in an Image Prompt using either the fmap notation or explicit URL.
I have uploaded the image to 2 locations:
/bifoundation/web/app/res/s_blafp/images/myimage.jpg
/user_projects/domains/bifoundation_domain/servers/bi_server1/tmp/_WL_user/analytics_11.1.1/7dezjl/war/res/s_blafp/images/myimages.jpg
I have restarted the services.
I've tried various URLs but cannot display the image in the prompt.
Any ideas?

Cascade dashboard prompts in OBIEE 10.1.3.4

Hi,
Is there any concept of Cascade dashboard prompt in OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
I have a requirement as described below -
Start date and End date dashboard prompts. (Calendar) - Results of Start Date and End Date selected are captured in the Presentation Variables Startdt, Enddt respectively.
Promotions dashboard prompt (multi select) - This Prompt should show the results from the SQL Query -
SELECT "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."National Promotion" FROM "SPDM" where "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."NP Status"='Active' and "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."NP Region"='Canada' and "- National Promotion - Canadian Market"."NP Type"='National' and "- Calendar".Date BETWEEN DATE '@{Startdt}{06/28/2010}' AND DATE '@{Enddt}{12/31/2010}'
But the results are not populating in the Promotions Prompt. Can anyone help me in fixing this.

With a Multi Select dashboard prompt
You cannot set a Presentation Variable in a Multi Select dashboard prompt in OBIEE 10g. This is expected behavior. OBIEE 10g is working as designed. A Presentation variable can assume a single value. Because of that, presentation variables are not available when using multi select prompts. OBIEE 11g will introduce the ability to set Presentation Variables when using multi select prompts. In 10g you can try as a workaround using more than 1 prompt.

Cascaded Prompts in OBIEE 10g

Hello friends,
Can some help me to understand how to implement cascaded prompts in OBIEE 10g? My situation is:
I have three Prompts P1,P2 and P3
P1: Values are comming from a table
P2: Shows the value from a Stored Procedure, such that one stored procedure takes input parameter from P1
P3: Shows the value from a stored procedure , such that one stored procedure takes input parameter from P2
After selecting value from P3 , I will run the report. So here P2 is based on P1 , P3 is based on P2, ie cascaded.
I have tried this by checking the box Constrain for P2 and P3 (red some where that if we make a prompt with checked the Constrain box then its value depends on the previous prompt)
But for me this is not working even if check the Constrain box.
Can I some one help me to do this.

Value of P1 Im passing to a stored procedure (say SP1) to populate P2, same way values in the P2 (which is the result from SP1) I'm passing to SP2 which in turn gives the values in P3.
I'm using the SP1 and SP2 in the Physical layer as
EXEC SP_NAME @parameter1 = 'VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.ID)'
Here ID is the session variable I have created.
And in the Dashboard, I have created the prompt P1 (on a field which is from a table), then the value is passed to the variable ID by choosing the 'Request Variable' option in the Set Variable drop down.
Same way I did for other SP by passing the value from P2..
Here for P2 and P3 I have checked the box for constrain so that value of P2 is depended on P1 and value of P3 is depended on P2.
But my problem is this method of cascading is not working.. that is P2 value is not changing based on the value I'm selecting in P1 ans same way for P3...

HOW TO CREATE PROMPT BASED ON ANOTHER PROMPT IN OBIEE.
Requiremenst is as follows.
Year ,Qtr columns in first prompt.Based on selection on these prompts second prompt should display corresponding prompts
Second prompt will have Month ,Week and Day columns.Second prompt should be hidden and based on first prompt selection second prompt should display with constraint based on first prompt.
Any help would be highly appriciated!!!

OBIEE Answers limitation

Hello,
I have Oracle Business Intelligence 10.1.3.4.1 and I find problem like in point 3. ( http://obiee-blog.info/answers/some-obiee-answers-limitations/ ).
"Inability to display the beginning date and the end-date in the report based on the operator between, because with this operator, you can't define a presentation variable. In this case, the Between Date Prompt isn’t working properly and is a known OBIEE Answers bug."
Is this problem resolved in any obiee version? Do you know any patch which solution?

I have a new query about dashboard prompt in OBIEE 10g..
All below is needed to Operator in the dashboard prompt.
We have 4 columns, 4 columns using multi-select type need to constrain together and need to show value which is related with product..
e.g.
Now I display "REGION" column using multi-select in Control, and I need to show data which product name is not null. After I add "where product name is not null" in the SQL results in Show, then I cannot use the Constrain box.. and I cannot set any variable if I using multi-select type..
So anybody have any idea about this?

How to change the default up arrow in OBIEE Answers

I want to change the default blue up arrow with a green up arrow in OBIEE answers. How to do it?

Do you mean the condition formatting options ? If so I had a similar requirement to create a Green up arrow and an orange 'sideways' arrow. I did the following, all based on a default Windows install using OC4J :
Navigate to :
C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\s_oracle10\meters\arrow\tri\
I copied up.gif to upgreen.gif and change the colour in a image editor.
I coped up.gif, rotated 90 degrees, changed colour to orange and saved this as sideways.gif
I copied the two new files into the Web services stye folders also :
C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\meters\arrow\tri
restarted OC4J and presentation services and they are now available in the conditional formatting options, alongside the defaut Blue (up) and red(down) arrows.
** I believe the new pictures need to exist in any other style folders that you are using, e.g "s_hyperion", "s_oracle10", s_custom if you've done your own.

Field is in DB table/alias but I get ORA904 error using it in OBIEE Answers

Hello, I'm very new at developing with RPD and OBIEE tools, so I'm struggling with something that I thought I did correctly. I added a new field to a database table, and can query it in the database. I added it to the table in RPD Physical layer and I verified that it also now exists in an alias of that table. The physical alias table field is used as a source for a logical column in the presentation layer. Everything looks good in the RPD. But when I try to pull it up in a query in OBIEE Answers I get a 904 error telling me that the column does not exist. I've bounced the servers, dropped cookies and cache, but nothing helps - I still get the error.
What step could I have missed?

THank you all for the advice, but it still appears to be a problem. Here's what I tried and the results:
1. Right-clicked on the new column to do a row count update. As predicted by Gaurav, this also failed with a 904 error.
2. Verified exact spelling is correct.
3. Checked the connection pool. THis looks correct, but I will double-check today with one of my co-workers who has more experience with RPD.
4. Tried querying the column in RPD - this also failed with 904 error.
5. Checked the LTS within BMM layer and my new field does map back to the alias column
6. Ran a consistency check and the only errors (warnnings actually) are for a different, unrelated table.
7. Checked security and it also looks okay, but this is another one I'll double-check later with one of our experts here.
8. Joins in physical layer and BMM look good
9. Checked physical column and table in the presentation layer. These also point to the right columns/tables
10. Selecting the column by itself in analysis fails with 904.
If anyone can think of something else to consider based on this please advise. One thing I did notice is that in performing the steps above I noticed somewhere (the BMM I think) that the new column I added is at the bottom of the table (last field) and not in the middle as it is in the database. In past experience with other tools this hasn't mattered, but I'm going to see if I can change that and if that has an effect. I'm guessing it won't but I'm running out of ideas!

OBIEE Answers functionality questions

I pretty new to OBIEE Answers orginally working with Business Objects XI Webi, I have read through the user guides for Answers but some functionality I would like thats in BO XI but doesnt seem to be avaliable in Answers, Im not sure if its not documented because its more advanced functionality or whether Answers just can't do it ? Is the following functionality avaliable in Answers,
1. I want to build a report based on 2 queries and then link the data in these queries by a common dimension and display this data in 1 report, for example I have query 1 with fields A,B,C and query 2 with fields A, D, E, I want to link on field A as its common and in the 1 report display the fields A,B,C,D,E
is this possible ? This is not the same as union / intersect, and is not the same as dashboard showing two query results, I want 1 table showing the results of two queries.
2. Once you have you data set returned is there anyway to filter on the data displayed in the report without the SQL actually having the filter in ? For example I have 1 query returning 100 rows of data and in that 50 rows are of type = A and 50 are of type = B. I dont want to have two seperate queries one to get all type A and one to get all type B, but I would prefer to return all rows in the query then filter the results in the report itself so I can have 1 report table showing type = A and 1 report table showing type = B, pretty much like how you can add a filter in Excel or again how you would add a report level filter in BO XI ?
