Conditional Formatting in one cell with a dates in another cell

I have a simple spreadsheet that will gauge a project's progress.  I wish to have individual cells change color based on another cell.  I can't get the right syntax in order - groan
E2 has today's date, =NOW()
G2 (not started) would change from a color to no color when the start date, F27,  has arrived then
H2 (started) would change to a color when the date is met, F27, (may be change color as the completed date arrives) then no color when the completed date arrives, F28.
I2 (completed) would change to a color when the date is met, F28
When the spread sheet is opened or if I need to change the dates in either of the cells the cells with color gauges will update.
I am using conditional formating through the ribbon.
Please help!

  • Use check cells to enter data in another cell

    I'm creating a table that list my sales. I what the total to reflect money received not money invoiced. I thought i could just check a box and then the amount would be displayed.
    this is what am thinking in my head but it is not right:
    =SUM(R2,IF,U2="true")
    "true" meaning the check box is ticked
    Is this possible? if so how, or can you see another way.

    Reading *_iWork Formulas and Function User Guide_* is often useful when we want to write a formula.
    (1) why use SUM when a formula is designed to return the content of a single cell as the one which you wrote ?
    G2 contains :
    =IF(C2=TRUE,D2,"")
    is the correct syntax.
    (2) if you want to get a conditional sum of a range, the formula must apply to ranges, not to single cell.
    H2 contains :
    =SUMIF(C,TRUE,D)

  • Autofilling cells with existing data above in column? Numbers 2.0 did it, seems lost in 3.0

    Autofilling cells with existing data above in column? Numbers 2.0 did it, seems lost in 3.0
    Hello,
    Just upgraded to Numbers 3.0 and use it for keeping the books on my business. When I input my receipts at the end of the day in to Numbers, it used to autofill the cell with suggestions as I type using existing data that is present in the same column within the table.
    For example, I purchase parts from "Parts Store". Before instead of typing the entire phrase, I could just input the letter P and "Parts Store" would instantly pop up as a suggestion. I could hit enter and I would move on to the next cell. Made inputing data a lot easier.
    It worked in 2.0, but seems lost in 3.0. Is there a way to turn this on? I tried searching with no luck.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi AJ,
    Cells formatted as pop-up are designed for this purpose, to choose from a list of repeating values. Even less typing.  I like them better myself.  No typos.
    In the new Numbers hitting the spacebar doesn't activate a list so you have to go to the trackpad or mouse to make a pick from the list. It's very fast for me, but that depends on your setup and habits.

  • Changing Date in one cell based on text in another cell

    Is there a formula to change the date in a cell in one column to the date in another column on the same row based on the text in a third cell on the same row? For example, I want the date in G3 to change to the date in J3 when the text in H3 says Completed.

    Hi,
    My understanding is that if the value of H3 is "Completed", the G3 is changed the value of J3, is it correct? If yes, we can use If formula (=IF(H2="completed",J2)), please see the image below:
    If no, please share us a sample, we'd like to re-try it.

  • Drag the contents of a cell and drop it into another cell

    dear frankson,
    pls send the source code for drag the contents of a cell and drop it into another cell.

    When I drag and Drop on a Mac (OS 10.2.3), the OS
    builds a transparent image of the component being
    dragged and uses it instead of the default cursors.
    This wouldn't be a big problem except that the
    component it renders is the ENTIRE spreadsheetThis is the default behavior on Mac. You can manually set the dragimage in startdrag(...) in dragGestureRecognized(). So you just need to create an image of what your are actually dragging.
    If you simple want to remove the image just set it to some 1x1 pixel image or a transparent gif...

  • Conditional format of one cell based on contents of another cell

    Preparing list of appointments for visitors with time for each. There are four possible status categories for visitors based on projected activity and whether they have shown up or not. (A Group Scheduled, A Group Showed, B Group Scheduled, B Group Showed). I've created the calendar in iCal with different calendars, then accessed that through Bento iCal Events. Bento adds the column with name of calendar from iCal. Info is now in Numbers. (iWorks 09)
    It shows Title, Start Date, Location, Calendar. I'm adding more fields using Lookup in Numbers drawing on entire data base brought over from Bento. I'm trying to get what info I need, but none that I don't, so the form isn't too crowded and busy.
    I would like to be able to conditionally format the Time column based on the contents of the Calendar column. If successful, the color of the Time column would tell me all I need to know about visitor status, and I could hide the Calendar column and clean up the form.
    I hope I've described it adequately. Can this be done, and if so, how?
    Thanks! Have a great Thanksgiving!

    Does it work to format two cells based on contents of one of them?
    Conditional formatting of a cell depends on the contents of that individual cell, compared with another value, so no.
    But you could use a two-table approach.
    In general terms, the technique is to:
    • make the original table's cell fill transparent,
    • Add a second table to the sheet,
    • Set the second table to copy the control values into a column of cells,
    • Select the cells in that column of Table 2,
    • Apply conditional formatting rules for each possible control value (see below)
    • Set the text opacity for these cells to 0 (full transparency),
    • Click on Table 2 in the sidebar, then use (shift and) the arrow keys to slide Table 2 behind Table 1 to align the highlighted cells with the cells to appear highlighted in Table 1.
    • Set the colour of the cell borders on table 2 to none.
    Using the information you gave regarding the calendar column, you'll need four rules for conditional formatting of this column. All are of the same format:
    Text contains: A Group Scheduled
    With the text changed to match each possible entry.
    Regards,
    Barry
    BTW: by changing the width of the formatted column on table 2, you can appear to highlight as many columns as you wish on Table 1.

  • How do i use conditional formatting to edit the color of other selected other cells?

    I have been playing around with the conditional formatting feature of Numbers, I have figured out how to change font and background color of the cell i am working with.
    However what i am looking to do is apply a background color formatting to another cell (i.e. F2) if conditions are met in (B2).
    the end game is this,
    I want to make a column of check boxes, and using contional formating i want adject cells to change color (I.e. the example above: if (B2) is a check box, then when unchecked the reffered Cell (F2) does nothing, but when check the color of (F2) changes)
    I can make this happen with Logic equations, the give (i.e. F2) some letter or number value, then using conditional formats i can have the color change. but this leaves that particular cell useless to me (i.e. F2) I am not free to enter or edit text in that cell. (i.e. =IF(B2=TRUE,"Paid","Due") ----> then add a conditional statement that chages color when the value is either "Paid" or "Due")
    How do i have F2 change color, when B2 is checked and still retain the ability to enter information (or potential have another formula) in F2? (The Cell is not used up by "Paid" or  "Due" it is editable just like any other cell)
    is there anyway to change cell characteristics like font, color, and background color inside a formula, because in that way i would be able build it manually
    i tried using the formula editor inside the conditional format pane, but the only infor it will allow me to retain is one partictular cell. i cannot add modifiers like "+" or "=" or anything else. what is that space used for then?
    thanks for anyones help

    MC,
    You can do what you want in Numbers. It requires an auxiliary column and it's a bit tedious to set up because conditional formatting by comparison to another cell isn't relative, so each cell has to be programmed individually with no option to Paste or Fill to other cells in a range.
    For explanation purposes, let's say your checkbox is A2, your cell to be conditionally formatted is B2, and your auxiliary cell is  C2. To have the format of B2 determined by the checkbox status in A2, you will:
    1. In C2 write: =IF(A, B, " ") The " " is any string or value that you don't expect to encounter in B normally, and using the space character means you don't have to worry about having it visible if C is in View.
    2. In B2 use Conditional Format: "Equal To" cell C2 and set your text and fill attributes to be used when the box in A is checked.
    That's it. Do that for every cell in the range.

  • Conditional formatting doesn't work with scatter chart

    Hi,
    I am working on OBIEE 11g(11.1.1.7.0) and trying to create scatter chart with conditional formatting. But this is giving issue and conditions are not getting applied.
    suppose I have take columns "product numer","product","office","product type","Revenue" & "Actual unit price"
    I created the scatter chart using above columns and applied below conditions.
    if revenue is equal to/ is in 1080 then color is yellow
    if revenue is less than 1080 then color is blue
    if revenue is greater than 1080 then color is red.
    After applying all the condition, 1st condition is not getting applied. All the charts are showing blue and red color only.
    Anyone have any idea about this issue?
    Thanks

    looks like it is bug in 11.1.1.6.2 which is not fixed in 11.1.1.7.0

  • How i will increment  one day with Selected date

    hi,
    I have written a code, in this code i have selected a date from calendar. Now i want to know how will increment one day with this selected date. IS there anyone who can help me? please help me.
    With regards
    Bina

    Hi Bina,
    Lets break the task into smaller steps.
    You can research on Google and search on how to Implement the select date or enter date with Javascript.
    Lets assume that the date has been entered into a text box inside a form inside the HTML code like this:
    <form action ="target.jsp">
       <input type="text" value="" name="dateField"/>
       <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" />
    </form>When the user clicks the submit button, the form gets submitted, then the form redirects the user to target.jsp
    Inside target.jsp you can add a date like this
    <%
        String dateField = request.getParameter("dateField");
        // Here use substring function to extract the day , month and year from
    // date field.
        Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
        cal.set(year,month,day);
    // assuming you are storing days in an integer field
    int days;
    cal.add(days);
    %>Note that I have used JSP scriptlets, and the above code is somewhat pseudo-code. Since the task is big I suggest that you break it into smaller more specific tasks and then try to implement them by searching on Google for help first.
    If you get stuck with something specific you can ask here.

  • One report with 2 data source

    Hi i want to produce one report from 2 data source where there is no relation but there is one common fields ,Like in form i using 2 datablock to produce the result. My query is
    GLDATA BRDATA

    simple, either put them into one repeating frame by union or use two repeating frames.

  • Run a formula if a cell contains particular data from various cells

    I have a formula which checks a list of domains to see what the TLD is and then returns a renewal price based on the TLD e.g. .co.uk may return with $5.99 and .com $10.00. The formula I am using is below:
    =VLOOKUP(RIGHT(A2,LEN(A2)−SEARCH(".",A2)+1),$A:$B,2,FALSE)
    I am now wanting to expand this formula to check additional criteria before running the above formula.
    I don't know what functions to use, but I know what I'm trying to achieve, so please, humour me when it comes to make believe syntax below:
    if a cell contains the data from a number of cells e.g. C$2:C$5 then run the above formula, if not return "N/A"

    Hi Ian,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I see exactly where you're going with this, but it's not exactly what I'm after.
    Perhaps I need to be a bit more clear in my explanation - my bad.
    Cell A2 has a domain name e.g. example.com, example.co.uk, example.org, example.net
    Cell B2 has a number of options to choose from e.g. Expire, Hosting, Backorder, Mapping
    Column D2:D5 have a number of TLDs e.g. co.uk, .com, .org, .net
    Column E2:E5 have the corresponding annual renewal prices for the TLDs listed in cells F2:F5
    Column F2:F5 have the options than can be chosen in column B2
    I only want to get the renewal price for the TLD where the option in Cell B2 is one of the options listed in cells F2:F5 and if it's not, I want it to return "N/A"

  • Formula to trim off data from another cell after

    Wonder if anyone can help.  Ive got some address columns im editing in Numbers. Unfortunately,( common problem I know!), not all the date in the cells are uniform.  For example: E2 may have  '123 Alphabet Street', whereas E3 might have '123 Alphabet Street, London'.  Im trying to write a quick formula where I can trim off any data after the ',' into another column called Town.
    Im going to continue to scroll through this forum to see if this has been dealt with before, and look on Iwork Help. But in the meantime.. if anyone could give me a pointer that would be ace.
    Thanks

    You'll need two columns, one for each part of the split.
    Original data in column B, Street address in column C, City in column D
    C:   =IFERROR(LEFT(B,FIND(", ",B)-1),B)
    D:   =IFERROR(RIGHT(B,LEN(B)-FIND(", ",B)-1),"")

  • Conditional formating in a pivot table field based on another field

    Hello All,
    I have a pivot table with fields like Division, Day, Current DayTotal, Previous DayTotal. I have to set the background color of CurrentDayTotal field based on PreviousDayTotal. I searched all the blogs and they say Crossconditional Formatting is not possible in 10.1.3.4 pivot table.
    Conditional formatting works fine with the same field but not with a calculated field. I have tried these two options (Java Script and setting XML in Advanced tab) on a similar solution based on Grand Total.
    Conditional formtting in Grand total
    But not able to make it work for my current situation. Can you help.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    I've read all the tips that are offered in this forum. I tried all the solutions provided here, but I can not get the grand total formatted conditionally, what I get is the following error nell'answer:

  • Assigning a Numeric Value in a Cell Based on Text in Another Cell

    In advance, thanks for your assistance. I'm trying, in vain, to assign a numeric value in a cell based on text (from a dropdown menu) in another cell. For example, in cell A5 I have a dropdown list that includes the options "blue", "red", "white", and "gold." I want cell C15 to be 2 if A5="blue"; I want C15 to be 0 if A5="red"; I want C15 to be 2 if A5="white"; and, I want C15 to be 1 if A5="gold."

    Tippet,
    This is a job for LOOKUP.
    The expression for the Result cell is: =LOOKUP(A2, Lookup :: A1:A4, Lookup :: B1:B4)
    The aux. table contains the matches that you assign for the colors.

    Jerry
