problem is that at installation time i am not given any I.p configuration and dns entry .. ..

From Solaris vmware, run
ifconfig -a -> this will show you the available interfaces
then, ifconfig <interface name> <ip address> broadcast <broadcast ip> netmask <netmask ip> up
this will configure the host interface
check the routing table by netstat -nr
From windows 7, open putty and select new session and give the ip address of the solaris host, this will connect you to the vmware solaris, there you can connect oracle db.
Hope i answered you, if not please let me know.Thnks soorya
Is there any I.P entry in vmware on solaris and windows 7 .There is no need of DNS entry and MAC address .....on vmware ..

  • Why pre-configured Solaris VM with 5 (!) virtual hard discs ?

I downloaded the pre-configured Virtual Machine of Solaris Express Edition for VmWare and extracted it as described.
Much to my surprise I found 5 (!) *.vmdks
According to my knowledge these represent 5 independent virtual hard discs.
    Why this ?
Can I merge all the 5 virtual discs to one single virtual disc ?

If for some reason that the server is not cleaned up properly, you may see the error message:
"Error: - 'hostname' has been managed." (from Oracle VM Manager)"
You can manually reset the Oracle VM Server agent. First, shutdown the VMs on the server and make sure no VMs running on the server:
    # xm list
    # xm shutdown domain-id
Then, stop Oracle VM Server agent:
    # service ovs-agent stop
Clean up the Oracle VM server agent state files from /etc/ovs-agent/db location :
    # rm -rf /etc/ovs-agent/db/*
And restart Oracle VM Server agent
    # service ovs-agent start
One the Oracle VM Server agent is up and running, you can register the server with the Oracle VM Manager.

  • How to configure Solaris 10 IPMP for Oracle VDI 3.3.2

    Hi,
Does anyone have an indication on how to configure Solaris 10 IPMP in a manner that supports Oracle VDI?
We have setup two servers with 2 test addresses on physical and 1 logical for the hostname of the box, but when we configure VDI the VDI database does not come up on the 2nd box. We have also tried configuring IPMP without test addresses, but it doesn't make any difference - the DB still doesn't go into the up state after configuration on the 2nd server.
    Solaris 10 u9 with patches
Two physical NICs on management VLAN via 2 switches
Two physical NIcs on VDI VLAN via 2 switches
    VDI 3.3.2
All hostnames are in DNS and resolve for short name, FQDN and also reverse IP lookup
The is a proposal pdf on Oracle website that mentions IPMP, so someone has done it. Just could do with a hint on how it was done so that it works.
    Thanks

OK, updating this with what was causing the issue.
Not an IPMP problem this was a DNS problem. The VDI servers have access to two DNS environments, so had a DNS search path that had the domain where the VMs where going to go and another for management of the box with two DNS servers listed in /etc/resolv.conf.
We configured VDI using the FQDN for the management DNS, however the vda-config script takes the hostname of the box adds the first DNS domain from /etc/resolv.conf search entry and configures using (it seams to ignore what you put into the vda-config). When the config script comes to configuring MySQL because the names didn't match (FQDN it created by adding hostname to the 1st entry in DNS search path & FQDN that you put into vda-config command), it decides that it is configuring a "Client MySQL" instance rather than a "Slave MySQL" instance, which means the VDA DB never comes up in the out of vda-center status.
    So the fix is to:
    1) configure IPMP without test addresses (so traffic comes out of the correct IP and can be reverse looked up in DNS by the other host)
    2) if you have multiple DNS search entries, configure VDI using the first entry in your search path as its FQDN

  • Why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.

    Hi
why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.

    > why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.
Because Oracle says that's the way it has to be.
As @MohaAGOU said, starting in 11gR2, the Listeners (both SCAN and traditional) are now cluster resources. Let's start with the SCAN Listener. There are only 3 of them, even if you have 4 or more nodes in the cluster. If a node goes down and a SCAN Listener were running on it, Grid Infrastructure will relocate the SCAN Listener to a surviving node. Much easier to do this if the entire resource were in the GI home. Note that an instance cannot be relocated and it is running on a different home.
As for the traditional listener. The Listener itself won't be relocated during a node termination, but its VIP will.

  • Configure Solaris network on vmware

    Hi all
I've installed solaris on vmware and now want to configure the network so that I can ping the solaris OS from outside vm (or from the different vm)
Could you please let me know the steps of configurations?
    Thanks in advance

Please provide the name of the network adapter on your solaris vm?
Run dladm show-dev , this will show all network adapters.
If you dont see any then within vmware add a network adapter on the right network to the VM then reboot the VM and run that command again.
Then just let me know and ill proceed with next steps.

  • Network configuration Solaris 10.

    Hi all,
I got my solaris up and running with Audio and graphics working fine. Now I need to setup internet. I know the following details. Can anybody help me how to set this information. In linux I would, network configuration tool and on windows, I chang the TCP/IP properties. I don't know what to do in solaris.
    I ahve the following information.
    1) My IP Address
    2) Subnext mask
    3) DNS
    4) Primary gateway
    5) Sec. Gateway.

If your IP is dynamic, Solaris should get you connected to web, without your intervention. Just make sure the DHCP client is running (it runs, by default). Also check this compatibility list: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/components/views/networking_all_results.page1.html
If everything looks good, you can try "inetmenu" tool to get a valid IP address. More information is available at OpenSolaris web site: http://opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/inetmenu/

  • How to configure Solaris that third-party software can use Netscape

    Hi,
I don't know if this is Solaris configuration issue.
I have Storage Foundation installed on Solaris 10 SPARC.
And I am using the VEA GUI application to manage storage. Then I intentionally made some activities that the Error window appears with the link.
This link point to the Veritas web page.
After clicking on this link the error appears:
"Error attempting to launch web browser.:
    netscape: not found"
Please tell me whether this issue is because it needs some changes in Solaris or maybe the Storage Foundation needs to be configured properly?
The internet connection works fine while executing the Netscape from CDE.
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

I don't think it has anything to do with the third-party software. When you click on a link or document, the OS tries to access it using the associated application. In your case, clicking on a hyperlink tries to load the default web browser which on your system is Netscape.
If say, you installed Firefox and configured it to be the default web browser then Solaris would launch it instead.
Try to manually launch Netscape and in the preferences, set it as the default web browser. See how you go with that.

  • Configuring Solaris 8 Sparc w/router and cable modem

I recently purchased a Sun Ultra 10 with Solaris 7
pre-installed. I decided to immediately upgrade to
Solaris 8. The operating system has installed properly
    so far.
However, I'm at the point now where I am entering
information to allow Solaris to connect to my network
and thus the Internet, and the combinations I have tried
    don't work.
I use a cable modem service with a Netgear RT314
four-port router. It functions in a standard way - the
cable modem is 192.168.0.1 and shows up on my
WinXP PC (in ipconfig /all) as the DNS server and
gateway server. On the PC, for "Connection-specific
DNS suffix", I see nc.rr.com (my ISP).
Solaris 8 wants to know my domain name, as well as
my DNS server. I don't know what domain name to give
it. I have tried nc.rr.com, but when I enter that plus
192.168.0.1 as the DNS server, I end up receiving this
message: ""Unable to find an entry for dchppc3 with the
    specified DNS configuration."
I have been afraid to move beyond this point, although
it's possible that it will work properly and just isn't
    receiving the confirmation it expects.
Any suggestions would be welcome, either in this forum
or emailed to me. My address is [email protected]
    Thanks.

I decided to plow ahead with the installation. It works
properly within my local network - I can ping dchp
addresses and view Web files from my local server
using 192.168.0.3 (that machine's dchp address).
However, it can't get to the Internet. So my problem
now is that I can see the router, but can't see the
Internet services that the router provides to the other
computers on my network. Presumably, I need to
alter my DNS settings ... however, on my PCs, I seem
to simply use the router (192.168.0.1) as the DNS, and
it properly passes the request along to my cable modem
provider. Why would this work for the PCs but not for
    Solaris 8? Thanks -

  • Installing Solaris 10 x86 under VMWare

I got Solaris 10 x86 release 03/05 installed and working under Windows XP VMWare 5.0. I tried to install under Windows XP VMWare 4.5.1, but there was strange behavior: JDS freezes when mouse is clicked on anything on the desktop. Strange thing was that this did not happen until well after the install and using JDS for a few days.
I think it may have something to do with the X VMWare video driver. By default, it seems to choose VMWare 0405; I changed this to VMWare SGA Virtual Display. Seems okay now (using same virtual machine and install of Solaris).
Any other notes anyone has to add?
    Thanx,
    GB

I noticed similar issues, but if you have a window open like an xterm, you can Alt-TAB and regain control. I am not sure it is the X server, but would love to know how to troubleshoot it better.
It seems that if you are clicked in a window, you will be forced to type in that window. But you can open a new X client (like xterm), but you have to Alt-TAB to get to it. Once you cycle through using Alt-TAB, it appears that the mouse control returns.
I have not been able to consistently reproduce it. I have VMware 4.0 and high resolution display by setting up Xorg.conf.

  • Configure Solaris cluster to failover guest domain when NICs were down

    Hi,
I am running Solaris 11 as the control domains on 2 clustered nodes running on Solaris Cluster 4. There is a Solaris 10 guest domain which is managed via the Solaris cluster in failover mode.
2 virtual switches connected to 2 different network switches are presented to the guest domain. I would like to use link based IPMP to facilitate HA for the network connections. I understand that in this case the IPMP can only be configured within the guest domain. Now the question is how do I configure it in such a way that the guest domain fails over to the second cluster node (standby control domain) if both network interfaces are down? Thanks.

  • Network Interface Configuration Solaris 7

    Hi,
I'm new on Solaris platform. How does one change the gateway IP address to a new gateway IP address. I've tried "route change" command but no success. Any suggestion is very much appreciated.
    Kala
    Telikom PNG Ltd

Changing the IP address on a server can be quite involved if there are applications running on the server that "know" about the machines IP address ( typically databases ).
Ordinarily, if you are only changing the IP address you could use the ifconfig command. You might also need to change the netmask value.
Be careful, if your doing this remotely, say via telnet, once you run the ifconfig command and the IP changes, you will loose your connection to the server. It's best to try this sort of thing whilst your on the system console. If there is any mistake in your command and the interface is configured incorrectly or goes down, you will not be able to reconnect unless your on the system console.
If you want the IP address change to be persistent ie after reboots, you will need to edit the /etc/hosts file and add the new IP address in. If your using DNS and/or NIS/NIS+ then these files will also have to be changed.
