Oracle documentation for Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure
Hi
I want to install 11g Release 2 "Oracle Grid Infrastrucure" on Aix system without Cluster/RAC option. The requirement is to configure ASM on an Standalone system without any Cluster and RAC. Is there any documentation available for this installation.
I have already checked the below link which provide information on Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10814/toc.htm
Please let know if there is any documentation for Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone system.Hi there. Well, the installation of Grid Infrastructure would ask you that what kind of installation you want to do, single instance or cluster? If you would choose single instance installation, it would not be much different from doing any other oracle installation. The key factor to do it and why its mandatory is because from 11.2 onwards, ASM can't be managed from DBCA but from its own tool only, ASMCA and that runs from Grid Home. So I don't think that not finding the docs should be a show stopper for you. I haven't done it on AIX so I am not sure that I can be of some help about it. I have done it on OEL 5 and it didn't throw any issues for me.

Hello Everyone,
We are planning for a Oracle DB Upgrade and it includes several other upgrades as well including storage, hardware, OS and SAP etc.
In the process we need to install the Oracle Grid. As per the SAP recommended installation we should use /oracle directory for the oracle, but oracle is saying to go for /opt directory for this. For the information we will be using RHEL 6 and Oracle 11.2.0.4 Grid. Is it going to create some issue in future and what about the BRTools*. Have anyone faced this situation before?
Thanks.
Kind Regards
AnandHi Anand,
Please refer to below SAP note for configuration

Follow SAP suggestions as it would be useful in future from support perspective.
Hope this helps.

This link has many pdf files but none has the useful information. Those pdf's are just 2 or 3 pages each.Sad Christmas for you then i suppose.
Perhaps you could contact the vendor (quest) and get them to help you in your search for whatever it is you're looking for. An Oracle SQL and PL/SQL forum is not the venue for this, please mark the question as answered, and good luck in your search. -
SUNWsprox package with solaris 10 for Oracle 10g Installation....
Hi
I am in problem with a Solaris 10 package "SUNWsprox - Sun workshop Bundled 64-bit make library" for Oracle 10g Installation. I checked the CDs (In the /.../products) but did't found this packege. Can any one tell me please can I go without this package or where I found this package...Please Its very URGENT for me....
Thanks
Mohammed TanvirHi...
I had the same issue, but found out that the SUNWsprox was replaced by SUNWsprot. The OUI 10.1 Release 2 will 'pass' as the doco in the Oracle quick install guide is wrong (as well as 10g Application Server).
The only way to lay a 10g Release database on Solaris 10 is to lay the software doen only, then cd in the .../bin directory, step your Rdbms ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH and of course the DISPLAY (is X-windowing into the server), and run dbca manually. Oracle 10g is a bit buggy.

Oracle Grid Installer cannot list available disks
Hi all,

Any guideline is appreciated.Hi Srini,
I have tried as you mentioned like installing Java in C:\Java... and I have tried the by setting the JRE_LOCATION of local path. No use of it.
tried with -jreloc and setting the java path in environment variables too.
As I understand, the problem i have seen at files copied path is not expected as required. Please see the path below...
C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-06_03-36-31PM\jre\bin\javaw.exe.
After running the Setup.exe -deinstall... temporary folder is creating with timestamp and all the required files are coping here...
"jre" folder also created and copied required java files directly into jre folder, but not in jre\bin folder.
folder path is like this
C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-06_03-36-31PM\jre\javaw.exe.
Setup application is expecting jre\bin\javaw.exe, but folder structure is created as jre\javaw.exe. There it is coming the issue.
I have even tried with copying all the files into bin folder and executed the setup.exe, it again creating a new temporary file
not able to resolve it... -
Repository for Oracle RDBMS installation ports (Oracle 12c)
Is there a repository for Oracle 12c where to find the configured ports after installation and above all after any change(s) in configuration?
I think about: listener, OEM, EPG,... ports.
Thanks and Regards.OS Details: OEL 5.9 64 bit.
The portlist.ini is only interesting just after installation, and there not always an entry.
For instance, after I have done my installation (with listener, OEM), I still have an "empty file".
From the documentation:
"If you change a port number, it is not updated in the portlist.ini file, so you can only rely on this file immediately after installation"
"To find or change a port number, use the methods described in this appendix".
This is Appendix F. I scrolled it down, and don't find where to change and view the actual ports.
It seems to me there is no way to:
- See clearly the values of the ports used and for what component.
- Modify these ports and how.
Mayve I miss something, does someone understand it better?
Kind Regards. -

Verifying the installable components for oracle rdbms installation
Hi,
Is there a way to check the installable components that appear during oracle rdbms installation like oracle spatial, etc. from a currently working database?
Is there a short way for doing this when doing installation of similar configuration and options on a different server?
regardsHi,
You can get the information from "dba_registry" for current installed components

Solaris 10 configuration parameters for Oracle 10g
Hello all,
I have installed:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit
on the latest version of Solaris 10 SPARC. My /etc/project file looks as follows:
user.oracle:101:Oracle:::process.max-sem-nsems=(privileged,256,deny);project.max-shm-ids=(privileged,256,deny);project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,17179869184,deny)
I followed the installation guide for 10g and used the max-sem-nsems and max-shm-ids that were recommended. However, the guide was for a 4GB SGA and we are using a 8GB SGA on a machine with 32GB of memory.
Now, my question is, do those nsem and shm-id parameters hold true for larger SGAs? We are having a problem that, when new oracle shadows are created, any processes that check the /proc table becomes painfully slow.As allways kernel parameter could be found in documentation: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#sthref258

Prerequisites for Oracle 9i installation AIX 5L V5.3
Hi,
Can anybody give a clear idea on the prerequisites for Oracle 9i release 2 installation IBM AIX 5L V5.3
Thanks
JibuWhere did you get that information from?
If you check the great cert matrix, you'll find that Oracle's support for 5L is rather wide. The general note/page says e.g.
"Oracle products are certified for AIX5L on all servers that IBM supports with AIX5L. ...
AIX5L certifications include AIX5L versions 5.2 and 5.3."
And 9.2 is certified on "5L" (but note that current support ends July this year)
