Configure time capsule to connect to  my  wi-fi router?

I have my 1Gb Time Capsule connected to my iMac using an ethernet cable and it is now FINALLY backup up  my iMac.
However, no matter what I do the light on the front will ONLY flash yellow and there is seemingly no configuration that will allow it to talk to my wi-fi to let it talk to  the Internet and so  stop it.
Is there any meaningful documentation anywhere (other than the scant manual that it came with) that can help in anyway?

Yes, I understand but how is the TC connecting to the Dlink. If it doesn't connect it will have no internet.. without internet it will give you all the error messages.
Looking at the network preferences for Wi-Fi, my iMac is given the IP  address 192.168.0.104; subnet mask; 255.255.255.0; router, 192.168.0.1.  The DNS server is shown as 192.168.0.1.  This configuration allows me to communicate wirelessly to the Internet.
The Ethernet  connection (in network preferences) is shown as using DHCP; IP address, 169.254.206.220; subnet mask, 255.255.0.0.
In AirPort utilities, the IPv4 address is 169.254.156.234; subnet mask, 255.255.0.0; and it connects using DHCP.
Wireless from dlink is working..
The TC is not setup correctly.. so it is failing to give the computer an IP address. This is expected. The 169.254 address is self generated.. the two happened to find each other as both are on 169.254.. but it will not be stable.. this is because you have selected the wrong mode.. I suspect extend wireless.. but you cannot extend wireless unless the other router is another apple.
What are you trying to achieve?? If you want to just use the TC for backup by ethernet.. then give the computer a static ip.. 10.0.1.10, subnet 255.255.255.0 do not use dns or router IP. Turn off ipv6.
If you want internet via the TC, you must connect the TC to the dlink.. and by far the best way is ethernet.. if that is impossible.. then you can join the TC to the dlink.. you cannot extend. When you join ethernet ports will be turned off. It will become a network item via wifi from dlink and slow.. very really slow.

  • Will a time capsule work connected to a Sky wireless router, or should time capsule replace the Sky wireless router

I cant work out whether I should connect my new time capsule to my existing Sky wireless boadbannd router, or does the time capsule kit replace my Sky
router .I would really appreciate a none technical answer to my dilema before I open the box.

It depends on what the sky router exactly is..
If it is a modem, then you definitely have to keep it.. is it satellite or some sort of wireless internet??
If it is a router that plugs into an existing modem then in all  likelihood the TC can replace it.
If the sky router can be bridged then the sky router can be kept but the TC work as the router.
And finally even if the sky router is locked and you cannot do anything.. the TC can still work as a bridged device to provide backup and wireless connection within your network.
So however the situation it is possible to use your TC.

  • How to configure Time Capsule for Automatic Backup AND HARD DRIVE USE

I tried to configure Time Capsule for back up and as a hard drive. I record music and need to copy the music myself onto an external hard drive for speed, so I want the TC to double as an external hard drive, and do the back up. I want to be able to open the TC as a hard drive, to open my songs from it. Can it do both?

I finally figured it out. I am able to access my TC from the "shared folder." When I click on it, I get the "connection failed message." I failed to notice the login button in the upper right -- user error due to my Windows based education. The button is very subtle. Once I login, I can create folders and add content.
I didn't see a partition option. Where is that? Just curious.
    Thanks!

Best thing to do is connect your computer to the Time Capsule (LAN port) using an ethernet cable. Once connected, run Airport Utility and it should let you know why the light is yellow and attempt to fix the problem. If the problem persists, you should either re-configure the Time Capsule properly or conduct a hard reset and start the configuration over from the factory settings.

  • Time Capsule not connected to Ethernet?

    Hello,
I walked in to my office two days ago and the amber light was blinking with an occasional green (on my Time Capsule).
The reported error was that the ethernet was not connected. It was. I ultimately disconnected the ethernet cable from my Time Capsule and connected directly to my iMac. After some configuring issues I was on line. Did what I needed to do and shut down.
Next day  I decided to try powering down the Time Capsule and re-connected the Ethernet cable. Everything worked fine just like it has for well over a year now.
I figured maybe the cleaning crew bumped the power and everything was fine.
    No dice.
Came in this morning and the Time Capsule is blinking amber again (with an occasional green) same issue. "no ethernet connected."
Now I am connected directly to the IMac and asking for help.
    Please.
Thanks in advance for your help.

On our TC, the TC shows a green light even when it refuses our computer/device wireless connections and says the password is invalid.  However, I left the house for three hours and am now on my laptop and it is apparently working normally.  I plan to watch it very closely for the next week and see what happens.
I have read on here (and other Mac-centric review sites) that TC's are very unreliable, have slower than average wireless connections (and short ranges in apartments, especially through walls/several rooms), and fail within 18 months -- all of which is considered "normal" lifespan by Apple (as confirmed by the Apple employees at the San Diego Store in Fashion Valley).
I don't plan on purchasing another TC, and likely not even an Airport extreme.  I will look at buying a more reliable wireless router with stronger (farther) connections and connection ranges. I love apple products and have used them to the exclusion of others for over 15 years, but this is really annoying (and my friends have much better wireless networks!).

  • Time Capsule Not connecting to internet

Hello. So recently I received a new iMac for Christmas and knowing that my wireless network is setup with MAC address filtering, I used my working laptop to connect to both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to add the iMac to the network. That worked and my iMac has been able to connect to the network no problem.
Let me explain what my network setup is before I tell about the problem:
I have the latest generation Airport Extreme (Dual Band II) and a first generation Time Capsule (1TB).
The Airport Extreme is connected to the internet by cable modem and the Airport is the main router sharing a single IP address.
I connected the Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme through Ethernet and set it up automatically with Airport Utility to extend over ethernet.
Now up untill now, I had no problems but since I got my iMac, I haven't been able to ever get a list of the Airport devices connected to the network, while connected to the Time Capsule, however, when connected to the Airport Extreme 5GHz network, I'm having no problems.
And today, the Time Capsule wouldn't connect to the internet over wifi, and all other devices wouldn't either. Of course, I tried to connect to the base station, but Airport Utility wouldn't display any devices connected. This happened with my MacBook as well.
Since connecting to the 5GHz network from the Airport Extreme, I have no problems with internet or Airport Utility. After a while though, the Time Capsule connected to the internet again.
Would someone shed some light on the situation?

I normally use the manual setup mode so I'm not sure what exactly is the end-state when choosing to extend a wireless network with the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet.
I am guessing that the AirPort Utility configured the TC as a bridge to allow the AEBSn to still provide both NAT & DHCP services for all wired or wireless clients connected to either router.
Let's start by double-checking some settings on your TC. Please provide the following TC settings from the AirPort Utility:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Time Capsule > Wireless
    o Wireless Mode = ?
o Allow this network to be extended = checked or unchecked?
    o Radio Mode = ?
    o Radio Channel Selection = ?
    Time Capsule > Access Control
    o MAC Address Access Control = ?
    Internet > Internet Connection
    o Connect Using = ?
    o Connection Sharing = ?
    Internet > TCP/IP
    o Configure IPv4 = ?

  • Configuring Time Capsule for VOIP?

I am trying to connect a VOIP phone to a Time Capsule. I was able to connect it to the internet and configure the phone, but can't make calls. I think it may be a firewall issue, and my provider says that I need to enable SIP Signaling on some specific ports and also open a media port on some specific ports. Is there a way to do this?
My system is that I have aDSL service connected to a Netgear DM111PSP. The Time Capsule is connected to this modem. And, I have connected my VOIP phone to the Time Capsule. Is this a sensible way to connect? Should I be looking at anything else besides opening the ports?
    Thanks!
    George

The problem is the TC is not upnp enabled.. Apple use a different system to open ports.. but it also matters if the TC is working in bridge or router and the netgear is bridge or router.. ie .. tell us exactly what is working as the main router.. is the TC using pppoe client to connect via the netgear.. if not it should be bridged.
You cannot get voip working behind double NAT.

  • HT1178 How setup and configure time capsule with ADSL modem for WiFi internet

For my first time time capsule 2TB set up,would like to know about configuration time capsule with ADSL modem for use WiFi internet!

You will want to turn off the WiFi on your modem (if there is WiFi on your modem). Connect the TC and the modem together with an Ethernet cable. Then, turn on your TC and set it up to be in bridged mode, connection type 'Ethernet'.

  • G4 imac and time capsule wireless connection

I have a dual band time capsule working wirelessly with 3 macs all intel (24 iMac, mbp 13, mb 13) with no issues. I was trying to connect a 17" flat panel G4 to the same wireless network on the time capsule and it fails to see the network.
When I type in the network name and password (WPA) it comes back with "encryption method not supported by the wireless network". Although all the others macs are working on this same network using the same encryption, the old iMac refuses to play nice. Is there something else I've overlooked?
This G4 has been on a various wireless networks over the past 5 years. It is running 10.4.11 and I know it will not support time machine, but still hoping it can share the wireless network.
    Thanks

    James,
You need to configure the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network that is being provided by the Netgear router. The Time Capsule will connect using wireless only in this type of configuration.
Then, the Netgear, Time Capsule and your computer will all be on the same wireless network and you will not have to "switch" networks to access the Internet or back up to the Time Capsule.
Before we make any changes, we want to make sure that you understand that the Time Capsule will not perform any routing functions when it is configured to "join a wireless network".
The Ethernet ports on the  Time Capsule are not enabled in this setup, therefore you will not be able to use Ethernet to back up to the Time Capsule. Backups will be over wireless only, which is significantly slower than an Ethernet connection.
This setup can be tricky because you must know the exact type of wireless security that the Netgear router is using in order to provide the correct settings to the Time Capsule.
If the Time Capsule does not receive the correct settings during setup, you will receive a message that there has been an error and you must start all over again with a complete factory default reset of the Time Capsule and try again.
So, before we go any further, we need to ask....what is the exact type of wireless security that your Netgear router is using?

  • Time Capsule wireless connection through Netgear connection

I am now using a Netgear N300 Gigabite modem/router as my main access point (internet et al). However, I want to continue to use my Time Capsule as a wireless drive.
I'm not sure what I should set the Netgear and Time Capsule so that the Time Capsule does not interfere with the Netgear internet connection. Right now that is what it is doing. I have to set the Time Capsule to bridge and connect to it separately.
So, is there a way to access the TC hard drive through the Netgear wirelessly?
i.e. with my laptop I want to stay connected to the Netgear and have internet access but also be able to connect to TC through that Netgear connection.
I don't want to ethernet the TC to the NG. I have my TC ethernet connected to my iMac. So I need to have the NG and TC cooperating wirelessly.

  • Time Capsule loses connection when Time Machine tries to back up

    Hi,
I am trying to do my first back up using Time Machine but seems there is a problem.
I connect to the internet using cable, which I connect to the Time Capsule. I use it as my router as well and configure my wireless network just fine. When Time Machine tries to connect and do a back up it disconnects everything and I have to umplug everything, reset the Time Capsule sometimes to be able to get the iMac to find it again (netwerk stops working as well)
Please let me know if you need more info to be able to help me out.
    Thanks

I have experienced that myself and I've not found a reason or solution to it yet.
I also read somewhere that the Time Machine software can continue with the backup after an interruption. If that's the case, this may be a minor inconvenience.
    Regards

  • I can't get my airport time capsule to connect to the internet

I can't get my new airport time capsule to connect to the internet. It works fine with my linksys router

We cannot help with that amount of info..
What internet type and modem do you have? Exact modem make and model may help.
Is the linksys router also the modem? You do know there is no modem in the TC?
How is the Linksys authenticating if it is plugged into the modem??
If cable did you shut down the cable modem for at least 20min to change the router.. this is always required with cable system.. often the time is longer.. one hour or overnight even.

You can, but how are you going to back up those other files?  When (not if) your Time Capsule fails, you risk losing them.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for details.
Then can i access these files only on the time capsule without connecting it?
Not sure what you mean.  You have to connect a computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, to read or write to the disk.

A "clicking noise" is often a sign that a hard drive is malfunctioning. Suggest that you power down the device and take it to an Apple store to have them take a look, or contact Customer Service at Apple for instructions.
