Configuring in Purgatory (Problems w/ PCs Recognizng External HD)

Apple does a phenomenal job engineering/designing its products. The problem, however, is when one tries bringing PCs in the mix, in this case integrating my son's PCs into our Airport Extreme home network. I just added an external hard drive to the Airport Extreme's USB connection. All my Apple products recognize/work with this external hard drive. However, although my son's laptops and one hardwired PC (via an Ethernet connection) work fine with the Airport Extreme, they do NOT recognize the external hard drive that is attached to the Airport Extreme. It could be that we have no idea how to enable or recognize this HD at the PCs. Could it be that we have to do something with the PC's network configuration software? I see that a woman posted the same question last fall; however, no one answered it. Since Apple markets its Airport Extreme as being able to work with PCs, I assume that there must be a simple answer.

Thank you for responding. I didn't know that I had to map the network drive. I will follow through with this. One question though...You mentioned that you are prompted to enter a username and password, which leads me to question your selection for securing the shared disk. Did you select "with a disk password," or "with accounts," or "with base station password?" (The choice of selection resides in Airport Utility's Disks dialogue screen.) Once again, I appreciate your time and effort in responding.

How do I configure my timecapsule to back up an external drive connected to macbook?

First, insure that the external drive has been formatted in Mac OS Extended Journaled
If it's not, and you already have data on the drive, you will need to move that data to another temporary storage location....as the format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) will erase everything on the drive. Once the drive has been formatted, move the data from the temporary storage location back to the external drive
Click the Time Machine clock icon at the top of the screen
    Click Time Machine Preferences
    Click Options
Click the name of the external drive to highlight it, and then click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the drive from the list of "excluded" items for backup
The drive will now be backed up by Time Machine on the next and all subsequent backups

  • Strange problem with linking to external vob-file

I have a strange problem with linking to external vob-file. I
have created a link using BudApi:
    on mouseup
set OK = baOpenFile ( the pathname &
    "Files\General\Video\VTS_01_1.VOB", "normal")
    end
This code opens mpg-videos correctly, but nothing happens
when I try to open vob-files with the same code. The strangest
thing is that when I change the default program for vob-files to
WinDVD this code works and the file opens, but when I change the
default program to Nero Showtime this code doesn't do anything
(when I open the file 'manually' from the folder, it opens
correctly on Nero Showtime). My client uses Nero Showtime, so I
really would appreciate any help on this one.

If you open a command prompt, do you get an association
    listed like this
    example for .txt files:
    C:\>assoc .txt
    .txt=txtfile
    C:\>ftype txtfile
    txtfile="D:\Program Files\JGsoft\EditPadLite\EditPadLite.exe"

    Hi,
Please check the parameter icm/server_port_1, if this parameter is not set, add in TX RZ10 with the value:
    PROT=SMTP,PORT=25
Restart the instance, then create a service user with the S_A.SCON profile.
In the SICF, open the SAPCONNECT service and check the configuration:
    Host data: profile parameter = 0 // host configuration= :
Logon Data: Add the service user that you create
    Handler List: CL_SMTP_EXT_SAPCONNECT
    Save and active
In the SCOT add the domain in menu settings and add the mailhost and port in the SMTP node, Click the button SET in the internet option and add a * in field address area.
Go to SMICM --> Go to --> Services and check that the port that you add in the parameter icm/server_port_1 is active
Go to SBWP and send the message.
    Good Luck

  • 2610 LAN configuration with devices on both internal and external IPs

I am more than a bit rusty and reconfiguring a network due the arrival of a new SBS office server. The new office server (and clients) needs to connect to the Internet via our Cisco 2610 router. The server is say 10.1.1.10 and the FastEthernet0 interface on the router is set to 10.1.1.200. The 2600 has a Serial0 interface that is connected to a leased line with an external IP address. We also have our own class C IP range used for web, mail and dns servers.
    So:
    OfficeServer (10.1.1.10)<----->FastEthernet0(10.1.1.200)[2600 ROUTER1]Serial0(123.123.123.54)<---leased line--->ISP(Internet)
However, I also have a webserver etc in our office, with an external IP address from our range, that needs to, and can, see the Internet.
So, we also have, on the same router:
    WebServer (90.4.123.35)<----->FastEthernet0(90.4.123.254)[2600 ROUTER1]Serial0(123.123.123.1)<---leased line--->ISP(Internet)
    interface FastEthernet0/0
    ip address 10.1.1.200 255.255.0.0 secondary
    ip address 90.4.123.254 255.255.255.0
    ip nat inside
    speed auto
    full-duplex
    interface Serial0/0
    description Connection to NTL
    ip address 123.123.123.54 255.255.255.252
    ip broadcast-address 123.123.123.55
    ip access-group inboundfilter in
    ip access-group outboundfilter2 out
    ip nat outside
    encapsulation ppp
    no fair-queue
The FastEthernet0 interface has both an internet and external IP address mapped to it. Currently the office PCs use the external IP address as their gateway address and this works, however the new server is more secure and won't allow this.
There is NAT and access-lists running on the Cisco and each office PC has an internal IP address that is NATted to a dedicated external IP.
At the moment the webserver can see the Internet, but the office server cannot. Office PCs can see the Internet if they use the external IP address mapped to FastEthernet0/0 direct as their gateway address (although you get a message suggesting that this is not the way to go). So I am trying to resolve this whilst also trying to set it up better/properly.
What is the best way to do this (all assistance appreciated)?
Do I need to NAT the internal office server IP to an external IP address for it to see the internet?
Do I need to NAT the internal gateway address to an external IP address or will the router be able to route this anyhow?
Could it be DNS, so should I set the DNS server on the office server NIC to the ISPs DNS server, or to the Cisco

The best solution is to renumber the webserver to an internal ip address and configure a static nat on the router:
    ip nat inside source static

  • Problem while connecting to external DB using DB link

    Hi,
We've recently upgraded SAP(4.6C) Oracle DB to 10g version. SAP is talking to an external DB which is on a 8.x version.

The DB link is running fine and we're able to connect to the external DB.
The 1st record from the extranl DB is read perfectly.
From the 2nd record, some of the numeric fields are reading a value '~'. We checked the external DB view SAP_TRUCK_INVENTORY_ISSUES_V and it has all non-null numeric values.
It's confusing that the 1st record has exactly the same values as the external DB, but from 2nd record onwards, it is reading some numeric values as '~'.
Is there any kind of internal conversion that is happening while reading data from SAP_TRUCK_INVENTORY_ISSUES_V into work area wa_issues.
Are there any problems faced with DB links b/w 2 Oracle DBs with version difference more than 1?
Any inputs on this would be helpful.
    Regards
    Deepthi.

    Hi Rich,
Thank you for a quick reply,
Here is what I've done to connect to the remote ABAP system:
    1. Configured this remote system in the SLD as a Technical System (SLD=> Technical Landscape).
    2. Opened WebDynpro Content Administrator and created two JCO's for my application pointed to that remote ABAP system (defined in SLD). I was able to test them successfully reaching that remote system.
But when I run my application the same error occured.
    What did I miss ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Mike

  • Screeching sounds in games and other problems with Soundblaster live extern

Okay i have the USB external Creative soundblaster li've sound card. i have had a few problems. My first problem is When im in games such as Americas Army i get random Screeches like a tin can being scraped on concrete. My 2nd problem is Talking with my mic. For others to hear me MONITORING has to be enabled, there for i hear myself out of my own speakers as well. I have done everything to try and fix this, i've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, using windows automatic drivers. Is there an option i dont see that is causing my card to not sound good? I am using a 2.0 speaker configuration, and i only play the games with headphones on.
    please help.
thanks for your time.Message Edited by Zombeh on 0-6-2006 08:30 AM

You waited 24 hours and gave up? So I'll offer this for anybody else who reads the thread. I have a USB external SB card, but it's in a box somewhere. But IIRC, the Volume Controls work similar to other SB cards. In Volume Controls, Playback, mute the Microphone. In Volume Controls, Recording, select Microphone. This should let you "record" without hearing it on your speakers. Now if a game sets the mixer options for itself, that complicates things. If allowed, choose game audio options similar to these Volume Controls.

  • Time Machine fails repeatedly with no problem detected on the external disk

Since a couple of days, Time Machine fails repeatedly, several times a day. I repair the disk with the Disk utility, that finds no error, then I reset Time Machine as indicated, and after one or two successful backups, it fails again, with the following report given by the Time Machine Buddy widget:
    Starting standard backup

I insist, the disk utility doesn't find any problem in the external USB disk. Should I reinstall the OS?

  • Firewire Problems : Mounting iPod Using External HD - iBook G4?

I cannot get my iPod to mount on the iBook's desktop. iBook is a 1.33Ghz G4.
I have a 1st generation iPod and bought an external Seagate HD (160GB) and a drive enclosure (the latter included an external powerblock, I can post the make/model if needed). I bought the HD in with the intention of storing my iTunes music library.
I've never had a problem mounting the iPod on the iBook via the Firewire port. Using the external HD is a different story. Because the iBook has only a single Firewire port, I connect the external HD to the iBook's Firewire Port and then connect the iPod to the Firewire port on the back of the external HD. When in this configuration, the iPod fails to mount on the desktop.
I've done a temporary, barebones workaround by copying a few critical music files onto my iBook's HD iTune library and then just downloading those few files to the iPod. But this is a huge PITA. My iPod is pretty much crippled if I cannot load the music files I need on it. I'm frozen out of my music library. My iPod only is only 5gig capacity & will not store my entire music library, so I need to have the flexibility to load the music I want, when I want.
Can any one advise what, if anything can be done to get the iPod to mount while connected to the external HD?
Thanks a bunch for any assistance.

    Anyone?

  • Problem recording narration with external audio converter

I am recording a narration in iMovie using a nice studio quality mic plugged into an external mic pre/ AD converter. The converter (Apogee Mini-Me) is connected to my macbook pro via USB. I am able to select my mic pre in Preferences/Sound, no problem. The mic is hooked to the right channel of the two channel pre. ( I only need to use a single mic for a narration.) Everything sounds great except the sound only comes out of the right channel during iMovie playback. Is there a way to configure the input so that the single input is recorded and plays back on both channels of the iMovie audio track? I have looked and looked and there is no control panel that allows me to route a single input to both channels. Any ideas? Is there a piece of software that does this?

Connect all of your hardware and open the Audio MIDI Setup app (Utilities folder) to set it up.
You'll see the options for a "2" channel input and options to change a "mono" recording to center the channels to two speakers.

  • Problems connecting a USB external disc

    Hi,
I dont know why but when I try to connect an external USB disc to one of my xserves, it does not appear in disk utility. I have a xsan2 between 4 xserves and happen the same in all of then. However, if I connect the USB disc into a xserve that is not configured as a xsan2 ... I can see the disc and mount it automatically without problems.
    Where is the problem?
    Thanks for all,
    Alvaro

Is the problem that the xserve in question is locked on the front panel? Any USB device connected while the unit is locked will not register with the OS.

  • Problem with emails to external users

    Hi
I'm working on EP 6.0.15.0.0. When I try to send a link from KM to an external user I receive the error message:
<b><i>The mail could not be sent to the specified recipients</i></b>
If I try to send the same link to an user belonging to the domain, everything works fine.
I have created a smtp system and an email transport.
I tried also to check that my SMTP is:
    - reachable from the portal machine
    - allows the specified Channel Originator to send notifications
    Could somebody help me?

    Hi Alessia,
the problem will be your SMTP server; this is not really a portal issue. However, check the default.X.trc file(s) for a more detailed exception, which the SMTP server responded to the portal server. I expect from your description that the SMTP server doesn't allow relaying and so doesn't accept the mail which the portal tries to send.
A possible solution would be that your mail server admin configures the server in that way that it accepts mails "to everybody" if the sender for example has the IP your portal has, or depending on the sender's name.
    Hope it helps

  • Configuring dial-up on iMac G5 with External Modem

Ok guys... I give-up. I bought an external USB modem. I don't know what to do to make it work? What detailed procedures should I do for the iMac to read it as a modem from the USB port????
When I open internet connections configurations, the only ports available are firewire, airport, bluetooth and ethernet; nothing about USB.
Help please? Anyone who has the modem working, can you tell me what did you do? There's nothing in the manuals that explains how to set it up!
    Thanks in advance...

Yes it is set on automatic and I've tried everything from plugging and unplugging and rebooting.
And I'm sure the problem is not the modem because I tried it on my Windows based Laptop and it worked perfectly as soon as I plugged it without even doing any configuration.
Weird. Tomorrow I'll go buy an apple one.
Does the apple modem work right away or do I have to select something from the list before it works? I mean is it readable right away or do I have to also select Bluetooh and configure the dial-up? Pardon my ignorance, I'm not too much into Mac configurations yet. I switched only last august.
    Please advise...
    Thank you
