Configuring udev rules for Oracle 10g R2 Rac on OEL 5.5 U4 with Qnap
I'm trying to setup a 10g RAC Cluster following the guide by Jeff Hunter on http://www.idevelopment.info/
I have to admit, im no Linux admin, and have searched round the net for help with the following Issue.
I'm trying to set my iSCSI targets to have persistent mappings using udev rules
This is what I have done so far

1.) For some reason I cannot get the mappings to work correctly, I have rebooted the server and tried a number of different changes in the rules script. But for the life of me I cannot get it work.
I noticed when I rebooted the server that it failed to execute the iscsidev. When I manually run the shell script with a parameter it produces output
Can anyone help me to get this up and running?
2.) My QNAP Nas doesnt seem to publish iSCSI targets to only one NIC. I think this is down to the firmware/feature not being available. When I discover targets I get the following

How to configure SNMP agent for Oracle 10g
Hello,
I've installed oracle 10g in a Windows 2000 SP4 and I want to monitor database using SNMP.
I've already installed Windows SNMP agent but I haven't any idea how to configure Oracle in order to grant SNMP monitoring.
What should I do?
Is Oracle database ready to be monitored via SNMP by default?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
CarlesHello,
Thanks for your message.
In fact, I already found this doc in oracle, but it just show executables I have to install and my question can I install these executables.
I've already installed Windows SNMP agent, configured and testedwith disk space checkings, but it doesn't work fine with Oracle.
I launched Oracle Universal Installer and I checked Installed Products, but I haven't found how to install SNMP agents for oracle.
How can I add Oracle Peer Master Agent and Encapsulator to my oracle installation?
Thanks again for your help.

RH Linux VIP configuration not working for Oracle 10g RAC installation
Hi all,
I am trying to setup my test cluster on Oracle 10gR2 and Red Hat Linux 4. I have the public and private networks working fine and setup. However, after I setup the two VIP addresses, I cannot even ping these two virtual IPs from Linux. CRS install fails during initial run because it cannot communicate with the two VIP IP addresses. Can anyone help me out as to how to go about fixing the two VIPs so that Linux can ping them and CRS will install?
ThanksIt sounds like you configured your VIP on Linux in advance, before installing Oracle.
You are not supposed to do that.
Decide on an IP that the VIP will use with your network manager, but don't configure it in Linux. So before you start the clusterware install, ifconfig should not show your VIP.
CRS does not need VIP when you install the clusterware, only the interconnect address.
VIP is configured using a utility called VIPCA. If Clusterware installation fails and you think it was caused by VIP issues, try running VIPCA manually and let us know what were the results. -
Hi All,
I have a doubt, We are installing 10g R2 2-node RAC on RHEL4 U4. Can we have same IP address for VIP for both the nodes?
Thanks,
Praveen.Thanks for the response..
Ok, i'll have unique IP addresses for VIP.
Thanks

Hi all!
i am trying to configure snmp with oracle 10g so that i can monitor oracle from some network management system like tivoli, spectrum etc.
i checked in my $ORACLE_HOME/network , but there is no snmp directory ...nor does it have peer. Do i need to run some script to create the snmp directories or there is another path for the
CONFIG.master
CONFIG.encap
start_peer
files??? Please let me know if someone has configured that???
Also, how do you test whether the agent is running on the server or not??Hi,
I'm trying to configure snmp for oracle 10g on Linux using OEM agents.
I followed all the steps mentioned in:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b16244/chap2.htm#CHDCCEFB
I'm nto getting any output when I did snmp walk using below command:
snmpwalk -t 30 -M /usr/share/snmp/mibs/ -m all -c public localhost rdbmsMIB
When I did snmpwalk using below command:
snmpwalk -t 30 -M /RDBMS/oracle/product/10.2.0.4/grid10g/agent10g/network/doc -m all -c public localhost rdbmsMIB (only difference here with the above command is mibs directory)
output:
Cannot find module (CHARACTER-MIB): At line 7 in /RDBMS/oracle/product/10.2.0.4/grid10g/agent10g/network/doc/database.v1
Unlinked OID in RDBMS-MIB: rdbmsMIB ::= { mib-2 39 }
Cannot adopt OID in RDBMS-MIB: rdbmsWellKnownLimitedResources ::= { rdbmsObjects 10 }
Cannot adopt OID in RDBMS-MIB: rdbmsRelTable ::= { rdbmsObjects 9 }
Here I'm trying to monitor Oracle statistics through zenoss console. As an initial est i'm trying to configure the snmp for oracle 10g. Please provide me the complete list of steps on what to do after installing OEM for my requierment.
This will be a great help to me..

Enable autoarchiving for Oracle 10g RAC db
Hello
What are the steps to enable autoarchiving for Oracle 10g cluster database?
It is currentrly in noarchivelog mode.
Thank you,
YelenaHi.
I think that this has been improved in 10g, so that we can do an exclusive mount on any database in a RAC without setting cluster_database to false. Also the parameter log_archive_start has been depreciated so the steps is simply (assuming that you by default wants to use db_recovery_file_dest to store archived redo logs)
1) Shutdown immediate (instance 1)
2) Startup mount
3) Alter database archivelog
4) Alter database open
Repeat this sequence for all nodes in the RAC.
And the best is to leave the log_archive_format by it's default value, to ensure that the incarnation of the database is represented in the archive log name.
(On 10g, backupsets and archivelogs are usable beyond different reincarnation of a database, so there is a good change that S% or s% will repeat itself after an open resetlogs).
Hopes this might help you.
Good Luck
Rgds

also before you do what is suggested on the url posted by Mufalani,
it seems that you should do the following:
Check existence of udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
On RH/EL5, udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules should exist by default as part of the util-linux package, for example:
# ls /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rulesCreate a custom udev raw mapping rule file, /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules say, for example:
# touch /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules3b. Add udev raw binding rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file
Add the udev raw binding rules to the /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file, for example:
# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules

Configuring Web Services for Oracle XML DB
Hi all...
I think I need some help one this subject....
We have a 10G Release 2 Oracle single instance ( not RAC) install on a Linux Redhat v5.3 64 bit server. Are developers are user Visual Studio .Net and wnat to send xml files to a web service so that the xml file (containing data) can call a PL/SQL package (to be written) which will take the data out of the xml input file and insert rows into a prefined table within the instance. Now they have browsed the web and have come upon the following links...
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369/xdb_web_services.htm
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369/xdb22pro.htm#i1026724
Currently, within the database I looked at the schema XDB and have unlocked the account and connected as the user XDB. There are some 680 objects in the following groups...
SQL> select object_type, count(*) from dba_objects where owner='XDB' group by object_type;
OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(*)
SEQUENCE 2
PROCEDURE 5
OPERATOR 8
LOB 334
LIBRARY 12
PACKAGE 20
PACKAGE BODY 17
XML SCHEMA 25
TYPE BODY 5
TRIGGER 12
TABLE 36
INDEX 51
FUNCTION 5
INDEXTYPE 2
VIEW 2
TYPE 144
16 rows selected.
Now in the links above it mentions that the xdbconfig.xml needs to be altered etc. However, I have searched the entire $ORACLE_HOME and there is no file definition of that description.
From a DBA prospective...what do I have to install on the Linux server? I assume from the Oracle Database 10g Companion Products I need to lay down Oracle HTTP Server in a new Oracle home as the first step...or not? Does the HTML DB need to be installed as well?
And for Configuring Web Services for Oracle XML DB...what else has to be installed? And from what product line?
Thanks in Advance....
Cheers
RoegrHi Marco...
First of all ...thanks for the reply.
I followed the link and the infor in that web page. However, there were a few things that did not work....
1. The http://localhost:8080/ as is brought up a web page withe the heading as
==========
ORACLE DATABASE 10g EXPRESS EDITION LICENSE AGREEMENT..
==========
The other browser test ftp://localhost:2100/
did not find any page?
2. Then I went onto running (as the sysdba) the pl/sql to enable the ORAWSV Entry Service
however it error out. So I did a describe on DBMS_XDB and the function deleteServlet does not appear
then I had a look and this link to > http://www.liberidu.com/blog/?p=471
was for 11G and the other link > http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369.pdf
was for 11G.
However, we are on 10G

Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production
Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production?
Standard disclaimer: We don't represent Oracle. Your situation may be different because of specific wording in your particular Oracle contract, because of differences in licensing regimes over the years, because of laws in your particular country, etc. If you have a serious licensing question, you really need to address it to Oracle Sales. Explaining that some guy on the internet told you it was OK is going to be cold comfort if you're ever audited by Oracle and they disagree with my interpretation...
In general, no, you don't need a separate client license. The database is generally licensed to support a number of named users and/or all the users that a certain hardware configuration can support. Assuming the person using the Oracle client is connecting to a properly licensed database (and that they are one of the named users if that is the licensing regime), you shouldn't need a separate license.
There may be slightly different rules if we're talking about developers connecting to the database because of the "Oracle Programmer" set of licenses that appears on pricing sheets that I've never fully understood.

During the installation of grid infra(cluster) for Oracle 11.2 RAC one.
Good Day All, and thanks in advance…
During the installation of grid infrastructure(cluster) for Oracle 11.2 RAC One Node on AIX6.1 ( PROD) , ASM used. I am getting below errors when executing ./root.sh
Upon investigation ,I managed to get note: 1068212.1 from the support oracle site ( see below for details) . I might be hitting Unpublished bug 8670579. I also logged Severity 2 SR with Oracle support to get the bug/patch fix and no one has attended the call.
This might be configuration issue or otherwise , if you have experienced the same issue please assist ? ( if you need more logfiles please feel free to request)….
I ran the Cluster Verify Check – all passed.
Many Thanks

Oracle gateway for Oracle 10g DB on Windows 64 bit server
Is there any place that I can find Oracle dateway for Oracle 10g DB on Windows 64 bit server? I can only find Gateway for Oracle 11g on Windows 32 bit server. Please help me to identify this. Thanks.
yingkuan:
Thanks a lot. The link tells the details. It seems that Oracle has not release Gateway for Oracle database 10.2.0.x on Windows 64 bit server. Probably they don't do it.
So under this circumstance, if I want to install Gateway (32 bit) on Oracle 10.2.0.3 DB on Windows 64 bit server for Teradata, I probably have to install Gateway software in another Oracle Home, then configure it right. Please give more advice on this. 32 bit Gateway will work for 64 bit database? -
Long-term retention backup strategy for Oracle 10g
Hello,
I need design a Archivelog, Level 0 and Level 1 long-term retention backup strategy for Oracle 10g, It must be based in Rman with tapes.
¿Somebody could tell me what it's the best option to configure long-term retention backups in Oracle?, "CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 1825 DAYS;" It's posibble ?
Regards and thanks in advanceHello;
RECOVERY WINDOW is an integer so yes its possible. Does it make sense?
Later My bad, this is Oracle 11 only ( the gavinsoorma link ) . Getting harder and harder to think about 10. Don't think I would use RECOVERY WINDOW.
I would let the tape backup system handle the retention of your rman backups.
Using crosscheck and delete expired commands you can keep the catalog current with the available backups on tape.
Oracle 10
Keeping a Long-Term Backup: Example
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmbackp.htm#i1006840
http://web.njit.edu/info/oracle/DOC/backup.102/b14191/advmaint005.htm
Oracle 11
If you want to keep 5 years worth of backups I might just use KEEP specific date using the UNTIL TIME clause :
keep until time 'sysdate+1825'More info :
RMAN KEEP FOREVER, KEEP UNTIL TIME and FORCE commands
http://gavinsoorma.com/2010/04/rman-keep-forever-keep-until-time-and-force-commands/
Best Regards

Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g
hi all DBA experts.
I am not good familiar with Oracle database while i read a Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g. in which SAP General Recommendation:
You should delete obsolete initialization parameters from the profile.
To determine which obsolete parameters are currently set, proceed as follows:
SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$OBSOLETE_PARAMETER WHERE ISSPECIFIED = 'TRUE';
when i execute above command then result is no rows selected
while there are many parameters in above SAP Note which are already obsolete and not set in initSID.ora file.
for exp. the parameter OPTIMIZER_INDEX_COST_ADJ is showing
#### OPTIMIZER MODE
#optimizer_index_cost_adj = 10
as you know that this parameter is very important regarding System Performance.
now please guide me . I have to set these parameter or no need while there is not showing any parameters against obsolete command.
waiting you valuable reply.
Regards,hi both,
thanks for knowledge sharing with me other SDN users,
Dear Orkun,
Ok. At this stage, I can recommend you that apply what they have suggested,
in the message. So, you already did a part of it by configuring
Oracle parameters, already.
SAP support sent me this file (PRD_Parameters)
