Configuring WASAPI in QuickTime

Hi,
I'm trying to activate WASAPI (Windows Audio Session) in Quicktime for playback using iTunes 9 in Windows XP Pro (32-bit). I'm opening Quicktime, on QuickTime Preferences I click "Audio" tab, then under Play Audio Using the "Windows Audio Session" is greyed out. How do I activate this?
Thanks!

In Quicktime version 7.6.6, how many milliseconds are in one video frame?
That depends on the video frame rate. To find out, simply divide 1 second by the frame rate and multiply your answer by 1000.

  • Itunes and Quicktime won't open.

I recently had a problem with Itunes, which deleted anything new I purchased or downloaded. I found out that if I rebuilt the library the problem could be solved, but I didn't want to risk losing any data so I didn't do it. I figured I'd wait for an update that would fix it and a couple days later I downloaded Itunes 7.3.1. The download did not go smoothly at all. During the course of it: it had to stop downloading and download both Itunes and Quicktime seperatly and it kept saying that my Quicktime was not up to date (something it's been saying for the last couple months). I've tried fixing that before, but when I do it prevents me from going into Itunes.
Now after downloading 7.3.1 neither one of the programs will open. Itunes says, "Itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." and Quicktime says, "Runtime Error! ... This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."
I'm starting to get really annoyed with Itunes, for the last couple months it's had nothing but problems. Can someone please help me.

    Hi Clyde33.
Itunes says, "Itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration."
Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.
Quicktime says, "Runtime Error! ... This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."

  • Quicktime software won't install

After I've downloaded Quicktime from the Software Update, it required me to restart the computer. When the computer's restarted, the installation for the quicktime update begins but it gets stuck at configuring installation. I waited for hours but still the installation does not progress any further than configuring installation. Help! What should I do, how do I fix the problem? I already tried reformatting the whole computer and it was successful, but the software update gets stuck at configuring installation.

Uninstall quicktime completely. Then download the latest quicktime and reinstall.

  • Error Installing Latest Update to Quicktime

I have downloaded the latest update to Quicktime, but I can not get it to install. Not long after the installation begins, a message comes up that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Quick Time' disk and click OK."
I don't have an idea why it would be asking me for a CD because I always update through the website. I tried removing all the files related to the old version so I could do a clean install, but this message still comes up. Does anyone have any other ideas I could try?

+The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.+
Okay. If QuickTime was on the C drive to begin with, what I think you're getting is a variation on an error message that says, roughly: +The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is not available.+ (In those cases, typically QuickTime was installed on the C and not a network drive.)
That's usually caused by a problem with the installation configuration information for QuickTime. So we'll try a procedure that works for that message in your case as well.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in My Computer.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • IChat used to work, now does not.. same chat partner even....

    Ok, this is REALLY weird.
    Some details-
    Me Leopard 10.5.2
    Firewall= iChat enabled
    Quicktime= None (streaming band width)
    Internet sharing OFF
    Links sys wireless router WRT54GSV4
    Enabled Both UDP/TCP on 5190, 5678, 16384-16403
    Enabled UDP only on 5060
nothing set up for 5220, 5222 (jabber- dont use it)
nothing set up for 5297-5298 (internal communication, not needed to outside world for iChat)
Router running in gateway mode with udpnp enabled.
Router serving as DHCP server computer is always getting internal address of 192.168.1.101
Cable modem plugs into router and thats it for the network.
NO I DO NOT have 101 devices... we just started at 100 for IP assigning (we have 2 computers, 1 PC 1 MAC)
Now, sad story please read on and offer your help.
I WAS (past tense) able to chat with another family member in VT who is also running leopard and who is using a NetGear wireless router (known good for iChat) .
Here is the story, sorry it is long but I hope someone will spot what I missed if I give enough details.
Prior to december 21st I was using my setup (leopard see above) and was chatting (always VIDEO) with parents in MN as well as other relatives in VT (we live in UT). Both of these people were running tiger, both using netgear wireless routers (different ISP obviously). Had an issue chatting to the individual in VT at first, but changed their iChat preferences under accounts to use port 1080 for the aim oscar login (from 5190) and it worked every time from then out... good nuff...
So, I go to MN for Xmas and find out we cannot chat from their computer to the one in VT, both were tiger... turns out I was upgrading the MN computer to leopard for Xmas... so I upgrade and its still not working. I went into the net gear router and endabled TCP and UDP on ALL the ports I listed for my set up (ALL Of them, even the Jabber and "Internal" ports). I set up the leopard firewall to enable iChat and set the quick time etc etc... and whalla it worked to chat to VT, but only if we the same computer initiated the chat, i.e. had to be from MN (leopard)===> VT (tiger) (I THINK... **** wish I remembered this).
ANyhow, we did not care, it was a temporary thing (my wife wanted to chat with her sister) so those computers did not really need to chat much and it was good enough for us ....
Now... we fly back to our house (NO ONE WAS THERE i.e nothing changed on the computer) and now we cannot chat to VT (runing tiger) but we could 8 days ago. So, I looked into the error messages... it initiates, starts and then ends the chats with an error -7 message and later yeilds an error -8. I know the -7 can be a time out so I check our true speed and found at least 1Mbps both here and in VT. I figured maybe a security update changed something either in leopard or tiger, so I carefully configured my firewall, quicktime, and router (as well, no one is internet sharing) and everything else I could think of (even switched off DHCP for a while) to NO avail. After all this I confirmed (1 minute ago) that I CAN chat back to MN which is now upgraded to leopard with the NetGear wireless router and all the ports open etc etc...
The computer in VT has the usual set up with the 10.4 firewall ports enabled according to the Apple SOP (read the document in apple support if you need to know what this looks like). It also is not internet sharing, its quicktime is enabled and the et gear router appears appropriately configured with TCP and UDP enabled on ALL the ports I listed under my set up (ALL OF THEM just in case)
I have tried enabling ALL of the ports (i.e. the jaber and internal ports.. but this is pretty stupid on my end since I am using LEOPARD and it only requires a single port to chat (starts at 16384 and goes up to 16403 until it finds one open), but I was not sure what happens with a leopard - tiger iChat so I tried it, still broken.
One potential clue (or a red herring?). My sister-in-law HAS to use port 1080 for the AIM login, if she tries 5190 she gets kicked of AIM immediately (YES her firewall is configured to let that out as well as the portforward (TCP and UDP) is configured on the netgear wireless router. This seems strange to me and I almost want to call her and double triple check that she has all this correct.. but IT WORKED 8 days ago (we used it literally 3-4 + days a week, it working was NOT a fluke).
Anyhow, sorry for the book. Any and all help appreciated I have tried to do my homework but am now stumped and hope I did not miss anything super obvious.
    me
    SO. . . .
    What changed?
What is left to "fix" and most important
Who broke this so I can hunt them down (just kidding)... but seriously, what gives. Am I missing something OBVIOUS... like apple said we broke tiger too leopard chats and you have to buy leopard or something else reminiscent of the iPhone story (sorry, inappropriate jab, I just beat myself).

Ok- obviously I was tired and did not communicate.
    Here is the simplified problem.
We live in UT, my parents live in MN, my wifes sister and parents live in VT.
    3 computers
UT= 10.5.1 iMac silver case new computer purchased with 10.5.0 and IMMEDIATELY upgraded to 10.5.1 prior to running a single app. LinkSys wireless running in gateway mode.
VT= Leopard iMac core duo white (last years) with NetGear wireless adapter
MN= Leopard iMac core duo white (last years) with NetGear wireless adapter
This is how it was prior to Christmas
WE left UT and flew to MN where one of the iMacs lives. We were able to (FINALLY) chat with the VT iMAC (still running leopard) after UPRGADING the MN iMAC to Leopard version 10.5.1 and making some changes to the router and Mac Firewall as well as quicktime streaming settings. Then the chat would work from MN-VT.
We FLEW home to UT, where our leopard iMac had been sitting gathering dust for 8 days. It no longer can chat with VT, but it can chat perfectly well with the MN computer, which of course is now running leopard 10.5.1
So- I can assure you nothing changed on my computer while I was sitting in MN eating Xmas dinner and the computer sat in an empty house in Utah. Nothing, I am told, changed on the computer in VT.. and I can still chat to MN
I tried to mark my replies with an asterics, strangely they are in the message when I try to edit it but I do not see them all in the post... so if you see them great... if not you will have to read to find my replies... sorry.
    OK Solution(s)
Get all the routers set to do UPnP
    *all ready there
On the Linksys this is in Adminstration.
Disable then Delete all the Port Forwarding you have set and Save Settings.
    * this seems strange most iChat communication help messages start with the individual being told to put this in place. Tell me why this should be done, I am curious what you think is the issue here.
In the Netgears it (UPnP) should be in it's Own menu.
Delete (As there is no Disable) the Port Forwarding settings.
    Save settings
    * Again, I will try this since it obviously did not solve the problem but again, I am curious what you think the core issue is here.
In the Linksys go to the Security page and Disable the Anonymous Ping Blocking
    Save Settings.
*No anonymous ping blocking setting there... but I disabled the filter anonymous requests line.
In the Netgear go the WAN pages and Disable the Dos (or SPI) line. It is a Check to Do this.
Also check the Box to Respond to Pings on the WAN port
    Save Settings
Yes it is a good idea on the Tiger computers to have the Firewall On and the ports set.
    TCP 5190, 5220, 5222, 5223, 5298
    UDP 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678 16384-16403
(this will include the ports from Leopard machines)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208
*Yes, I concur with your statement, this is why I told everyone this is what I have set up, its in the apple recommendations for iChat.
It is better that the Leopard Firewall is On and set to Allow Specific apps ans services.
If set before the 10.5.1 Update then delete the apps in the list.
    Set to Allow All.
The set to Allow Specifics and re-add apps
This is because of a problem with the 10.5 firewall and settings being held over.
*not an issue, computer purchased with 10.5.0 and immediately upgraded but I all ready tried this anyhow, and its not the fix.
The port iChat uses to Login for the AIM server can be changed when not logged into AIM.
WE suggest port 443 as it is also used for Secure mail. In Tiger it means the port is likely to be open in the firewall for another app and not need setting.
*Great, that makes sense, thanks for your informative response.. I like to know why I am doing things, it makes me that much better fixing my own issues. Seriously
In Leopard the firewall works by Application and it will open any port the app uses. (it gets a"certificate" from the firewall).
    * I sorta figured it worked this way or in some similar fashion when I configured it to allow iChat, this again makes sense but it is all ready in place.
In fact it is possible to log in to the AIM server on virtually any port.
*OK, for another time but is this relevant... why is it that the VT computer can log into AIM using 1080 but NOT 5190.. odd.. anyhow no need to reply if this is not relevant to me being unable to chat to VT but if you consider it worth pursuing let me know.
Some find for Tiger/iChat 3 that separating the UDP and TCP bits of port 5190 helps
*I will check this on her MAC firewall settings over the phone.
I think I have got most of this.
*My bad, it was a rather confusing post.. I hope I clarified
Thanks for you help so far.
Basically simplify things in the routers first.
Then recheck your Leopard settings as
    1) you have miss-named them
    2) possibly referred to other places
    3) have not mentioned half of them.
Which other half would you be interested in?
I am making the changes and will reconfirm everything above and post my chat status... working with computers now.

  • 10.5.3 MacBook Dual Monitor Crashes

I've noticed what I consider to be a *very serious* problem with 10.5.3. In the week since installing 10.5.3 on my MacBook C2D/2Ghz/3Gig RAM I've had 2 hard lock-ups. Another MacBook owned by my company (similarly configured) has also experienced a hard lock-up under the same scenario that I'm about to describe:
I normally use my machine while I DJ (with Native Instruments Traktor) along with GarageCube's Modul8 to run an external display. Prior to the 10.5.3 update, I've never had a problem with this setup (I should also mention that AirPort was off). However, this past weekend, I experienced a hard crash running this config. Normally, I would have been alarmed (as any hard lockup will do), but I'm even more troubled because we had the same kind of hard crash on another machine similarly configured but running QuickTime Player instead of Modul8 (for the second display).
Initially, I had attributed this either to my DJ program or my Video program, however today, I was in the office using a totally different set of apps (but still with a second monitor connected) and I had another hard freeze.
As if the hard freezes aren't bad enough, it doesn't look like ANY log entries are being generated as a result. Neither do I get the "This Computer Unexpectedly Restarted" dialog when restarting. I know that the 10.5.3 update worked on a lot of graphics stuff (particularly related to the MacBook), but it looks like more things were broken than were fixed (at least as far as my setup is concerned).
Has any one else experienced this type of problem?
I've tried all of the routine troubleshooting stuff, but like I said, when it happens on one machine, it's one thing, but when it happens on two different machines, then I really start to wonder...

With all due respect, I highly doubt that there is some connection between Modul8, QuickTime Player, and Daylite (a CRM app from Marketcircle) that's causing this crash. Moreover, OS X really should be able to handle a flaw gracefully if it is application based.
As for the backup, like I said, this is something that's happening on two different machines. If you're suggesting that something went wrong on two different systems, I would have to say that it's more of an Apple issue than it is an isolated incident...
And, no offense, but I know all of the hoops I could try to jump through (e.g. reinstalling, etc.)... What I'm really looking for is to see if others are experiencing the same problems and, if so, if they've been able to trace them down. In short, I just don't have the time to try to shoot at this issue with a shotgun type approach. If the only way to fix it is to go back to 10.5.2, then that's what I will do, but if that's the case, then I hope this is something that Apple takes notice of and makes an effort to address sooner rather than later...

  • Custom Streaming Transport Settings

I can't get QT preferences to retain custom settings for Streaming Transport. I need to see if I am receiving stream via http port 80 or UDP 554. Each time I change and apply settings then close the window, re-open preference the streaming Transport is re-set to automatic
I have Windows version of QTPro 7.04

    My location: at work:
If you are using a workplace computer on a local network this may well be the case. A Firewall blocks out all Internet traffic except those services that local network administrators consider essential. You will need to contact your local network administrators and have the University's streaming server included in the acceptable services. There's an adminsitrator's guide to allowing streaming Quicktime through a firewall <a href "http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/qt4/us/proxy/proxy.html">here. To check to see that you can access any streaming movie, open the Quicktime Player and clicking Edit > Preferences > Quicktime preferences > Streaming transport. Click the Auto Configure button. Quicktime should confirm that it can use UDP/RTSP port 554. If it switches to http:// port 80, then you are most likely behind a firewall that is configured to block Quicktime streaming files.
    My location: at home:
If you have a DSL router with a NAT firewall you will need to configure it to allow streaming media files. Open the Web-based interface for the router, select Advanced and choose "Port forwarding" (wording may differ for your router). Open port 554 for RTSP/TCP data and ports 6970 through 6999 (inclusive) for RTP/UDP data. Consult your router's documentation for specific instructions on configuring port forwarding, or contact the router vendor.

  • Video out is slow

I can recive video fine but my video out is slow. Using an ichat camera, I have set my bandwidth #'s correctly and I uninstalld virex. I'm trying only 1to1 video chatting and my download speed is 1.264Mbps. What else could it be? Any help would be great! Dylan

Inbound video from an iBook looks great on iChat.
Outbound video (of me) looks choppy to other folks.
    My bandwidth is as follows:
    2022 kbps download
    521.32kbps upload
    My framerate is 1 fps
I have set my configuration as follows
Quicktime setting and it is high enough (although you could go as high as 1.5Mbps/T1/LAN) then I would check iCHat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down and check it is set to NONE.
Apple Remote Desktop is off, widgets are disabled, not running postgres.
I welcome any other suggestions? THANKS

  • Error -1302: Another 7.5 problem

Like many others, upgrading to 7.5 became a grease fire. On my computer with XP, when I click on itunes, I get a messsage that says "Error -1302 Library file cannot be saved." My library file isn't found in the itunes folder, but there I do find several in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. So, I move the most recent (they're dated)to the iTunes folder, relaunch iTunes, and it does open, BUT I get a window that shows that it's updating the iTunes library. At the last moment, it says, AGAIN, "Error -1302 Library file cannot be found."
I also downgraded to QT 7.2. I tried downgrading to an earlier version of iTunes, but I received a prompt stating that I could not do that.
Any ideas? Or should I just wait until the next update and hope Apple has a fix? Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Okay. Your technique for uninstalling QuickTime is missing a couple of program files, and also probably leaving installation configuration information for QuickTime on the PC. So we'd better try a different approach for cleaning it out.
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • Quicktime Broadcaster H.264 Configuration

    Hey,
Does anyone have any knowledge of how to configure H.264 settings in Quicktime Broadcaster?
The specs on www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/specs.html say it supports both H.264 Baseline profile and H.264 Main profile, but the software only gives "H.264" as an option (the "Options" button greys out when you select H.264), and it is putting out a H.264 "Main profile" stream.
Does anyone know how to switch this over to a H.264 "Baseline profile" stream?
I'm running QT Broadcaster 1.5.3 under MacOS 10.5.7 with Quicktime Pro 7.6.2.
    Thanks!

After many conversations with Apple representatives, I don't believe Baseline encoding is possible in QuickTime Broadcaster at this point, sorry. I would be interested in this feature too! Too bad they don't seem terribly concerned with updating the software.
In the forums for Wowza Streaming Server (link: http://www.wowzamedia.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20815&postcount=29), someone has claimed success using VLC to live encode to baseline profile, using the following settings:
    venc=x264{keyint=25,nocabac,level=3.0,qpmax=36,qpmin=10,me=hex,merange=24,subme= 9,qcomp=0.6},vcodec=x264,vb={VB},width={SIZEW},height={SIZEH},acodec=mp4a,ab={AB},channels=2
Haven't had a chance to try it out myself, but VLC is certainly flexible enough to accomplish this. (Whether it do so reliably is another matter...)

  • I seem to be "stuck" downloading QuickTime. I'm still less than 1/10 on "Configuring Instillation" on my MacBookPro.

I've repeatedly tried to download QuickTIme on my MacBook Pro.  It seems to be stuck on "Configuring Instillation".....showing less than 1/10 on the status bar.  I don't know what to do.  I'm incredibly challenged when it comes to these things.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Paul cb.  I get the same error message (9), which relates to an apparent dropping of the USB connection.  I have now tried 3 different usb cables on 2 different mac's, same result.
Reading as much as I can understand, there appears to be a dependance on an SHSH signature file. I have never Jailbroken any of my apple hardware, but there is much information that can be gleaned from the associated writings.
I am not a genius my any means, but it appears as though (iMhO) that somehow the files (or some of them) on the iPad have become corrupted and the all important SHSH file is not there. This causes iTunes to have no reference point for restoring the iPad.  Also, it is not possible to force a new firmware (Option click restore in itunes) without an SHSH file, this results in an error that says that the iPad is not eligible for this version ...  or something like that.
MY problem is that in Dubai we do not have an Apple Genius bar and that you guys and gals are the closest I will get to an Apple Genius.  The iPad was purchased for me in the States when my daughter was visting there so, I am pretty much sitting on a brick right now ...  (my wife has annexed my iPad 2 until I can fix her iPad 1 ....  sighs).
Unless there are any other tactics that you guys can suggest (without Jailbreaking) then I think I may be at the end of the road ..
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
    Best Regards
    Richard

  • Can I configure a keyboard shortcut to trigger a QuickTime movie?

Is there a way in Leopard to set up a keyboard shortcut that automatically launches a specific QuickTime movie?

no. you'll need a 3rd party application launcher for that. Try Quciksilver, Butler, ikeys or Quickeys.

  • Need a hand to configure FMS 4.5 to output HTTP stream...

    Hi folks!
I'm trying to setup Flash Media Server (Streaming server) and I'm having issues with outputting HTTP stream.
The system works very well with the Flash ooutput, but for some reason the livepkgr won't work. Tried several things over the past two weeks, I've went thru docs and I don't know anymopre what else I can try... The source of the video feed is upstreamed from my own home computer, via Flash Live Encoder.
I operate a dedicated server, running Windows 2008 Server. The default web site is IIS. I configured the ports so that port 80 is the default IIS inetpub/webroot, and the FMS 4.5 install is accessed via port 8134. So the IP http://184.107.48.113 opens the default Windows IIS, and http://184.107.48.113:8134 takes the request to the FMS install.
The video stream is live on the Flash server, I can see it in the console, the livepkgr appears to be working, and I do see the .STREAM file being generated in the _definst_/livebroadcast/livestream folder. So the server works, and process the HTTP output.
I believe the URL I should use to access the output HLS stream is: http://184.107.48.113:8134/livepkgr/_definst_/livebroadcast/livestream.f4m.m3u8
but it returns a file not found message. Is there something wrong with the URL syntax? Or there is something else in the .conf files I must tweak? Or is it an issue with Apache 2.2 configuration?
You can see the live Flash stream from my web site http://www.blackflag.tv I want to change this Flash stream to HTTP stream.
    Thanks for your help folks!!!

    Hey,
I tried playing HDS now and its working fine. It wasn't playing earlier.
You can try it out by playing the content through the player here: http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/#
    Input: http://184.107.48.113:8134/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livebroadcast/l ivestream.f4m
(Don't forget to select the radio button for HTTP streaming)
This means everything is working on the server side.
Now, I don't have an iDevice on me to check out HLS playback.
You are using an older version of QuickTime, which could be an issue. Please let me know what publish settings you are using (as in the codecs).
Also can you try playing it back through HTML5. To do that, just create an HTML page with the below content.
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Title of the document</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <video width="320" height="240" controls="controls" src="http://184.107.48.113:8134/hls-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livebroadcast/livestream.m3u8"  />
    </body>
    </html>

  • Quicktime plugin for screen capture does not work in flash player 11.2

    Hello,
I have created a quicktime plugin (it is .component file) for screen sharing purpose.
I have used quicktime framework for that. plugin is detected in flash player.
This plugin is working perfectly for flash player 11 and below. But,
It does not working in latest flash player 11.2.
I have seen following error on console -
Google Chrome Helper EH[240:e92b] *** QTCaptureSession warning:
Session received the following error while decompressing video:
    Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-8974
"The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -8974.)".
Make sure that the formats of all video outputs are properly configured
Note - Compression format used in plugin is kBMPCodecType.
    Please, help me.

The issue ended up being the change in resolution to my external monitor. Flash was unable to detect the proper coordinates of the color I was trying to select because I was running my monitor in HD mode rather than selecting an actual resolution from my monitor preferences. Changing the settings to an acutal resolution, instead of generic "HD mode" fixed the issue.
