Conflict with color settings

Hello,
I'm using Creative Cloud and all my programs have synchronized colors. My problem is with InDesign. Colors do not look the same there. Everytime I go to color settings, the program shows this error:
"Some parameters in the color settings file could not be used. Default values will be used instead."
And InDesign changes color to default values. I can select my custom color space but I don't know if it is really working, because every time I go to Edit> color settings... I get the same error. I have to manually change my color settings every time I launch InDesing.
My custom color settings (initially set on Photoshop and synchronized using Bridge. I'm copying them from InDesign) are:
Working Spaces
RGB: Adobe RGB (1998)
CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (Swop) v2
Color Management Policies
RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles
CMYK: Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles)
(Nothing selected on "Profile Mismathes" and "Mising profiles")
Conversion Options:
Engine: Adobe (ACE)
Intent: Perceptual
("Use Black Point Compensation" is selected).
InDesing is the only program in the suite that can not synchronize with this settings.
I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. All my Adobe programs are up to date. In design version is 8.0. This problem happens with any other custom workspace created, no matter what options are selected.
Thanks in advanced for any comments or help with this matter,
Alí Marín

Have you tried reinstalling InDesign? It sounds like something's wrong with your color profiles.
That's the only thing I haven´t tried, but I will and post about it.
I found a workaround though: If I set my desired color settings in InDesign, but don´t save them, then it works; I no longer get the error message if I go to Edit> Color Settings...
The color settings dialog box says that my Creative Cloud applications are unsynchronized, because I´m not using the .csf file previously synchronized using Bridge, but the settings are exactly the same and I can get around it. Colors actually work as they should.
So this seems to be a problem with InDesign accessing any saved color settings file. My color profiles aren´t wrong, because all other programs in the Suite use them with no trouble.
InDesign just wants to have it's own, non saved, color settings. How about that? Guess I got the selfish version .

  • Help with Color Settings/Profiles...White's look 'yellow' when exported to PowerPoint as a .png

I am running into this odd occurence and can't seem to figure it out.
First - I am not an expert in the Color settings/Profiles topic but I am thinking there is an issue here.
When I look at this image "McCroreyDigitalLogo.png" in Photoshop the 'whites' appear right.
Then when I import it into ms PowerPoint, the whites look yellowish.
I have done a series of 'tests' and it seems to be that the color profile out of photoshop and the one in PowerPoint are not compatible.
I have reset my Photoshop preferences with no luck/change to the results.
Finally, I did a screen shot out of photoshop and pasted that into Power point.  The white appeared correct.
Could use some guidance on how to fix this one. Basically any files I run through PS, when they are imported into PowerPoint, the whites turn yellow.
    Thanks in advance

PowerPoint is not a color managed program and can display the color values only in the color space of your monitor without any correction.
Color managed programs like Photoshop correct the color values when displaying them in order to simulate within the color space of your monitor other color spaces, for example sRGB, AdobeRGB, the color spaces of various printers, and etc. For this reason you can not match the color in non-color managed programs to the color of color managed programs but you can do the opposite match the color in Photoshop to PowerPoint.
There is two ways to do this:
One way is if you want the color values in Photoshop to remain the same but be displayed in the color space of your monitor which PowerPoint is using, you can either color proof with or assign your monitor profile to the document.
To color proof choose View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB.
To assign, choose Edit > Assign Profile, select Profile and from the menu choose the color profile of your monitor. If you are not sure what's the name of the color profile of your monitor, go to the Color Settings, in the Working Spaces section use the RGB menu, scroll up and check what it says after Monitor RGB-
Both proof and assign will give the same result on your monitor but the difference is - the proof is temporary and will last only for the session and the profile, if embedded when saving the file, will stay and when open in other color managed programs including those on other users' computers the color space of your monitor will be simulated and for those users who don't use color managed programs the colors could be way off than if saved with a profile of a more common color space like sRGB.
The other way is If you want the appearance in Photoshop to remain but the color values converted to the color space of your monitor, choose Edit > Convert to Profile, and from the RGB menu choose the color profile of your monitor. This will preserve the appearance and also match the colors in PowerPoint but like proofing and assigning you are not seeing what other users may see on their computers.
It is not possible to see the same colors in color managed and non-color managed programs and at the same time simulate how others using different computers may see the colors because different monitors display color values differently. Color managed programs can simulate a common standard color space like sRGB while non-color managed programs can not.
Edit: Have in mind all this will work properly if you have a color profile that describes correctly how your monitor displays colors. What you did as described in your post #6 is assign a color space that may be different than the color space of your monitor. The result is when working in sRGB color space your color managed programs will match the non color managed programs on your monitor but that doesn't mean that the actual sRGB space is displayed and any other color space simulation could be based on a wrong monitor profile.

  • Firewire ports conflict with sound settings.

Hi, Peculiar problem. My sound suddenly switched to being internal speaker only, even though I have decklink HD Extreme card and was using it as my audio output the night before. Narrowed the problem down to anything being plugged in to the firewire ports - FW400 and FW800 ports and drives or even my Mini DV deck. When I plug anything into the firewire ports, trying to get to the sound settings in system preferences hangs, and all sound will only work on the internal speaker. This is a sudden problem and leaves me only being able to plug in esata external hard drives. There is some sort of conflict going on somewhere. Can anybody help?

  • Need help with color settings

I am printing from InDesign CS2 to a Lanier LD 335c multifunction color printer.  The colors do not match what is on the pc, and the image quality is grainy.  Unfortunately this is a network printer so I do not have access to make changes to the printer settings.  I have played with the color management settings in InDesign, the printer driver settings on the pc and everything else I can think of.  The technician has come out to look at it, replaced parts and recalibrated the machine, but nothing has changed.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am ready to give up.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Actually this is described in the documentation, here (follow the links): http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/EN/80/e8eb40c4f8712ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm.

    Dammit,
    here's the problem:
The color values need trailing whitespaces, or it won't work
    This works:
    *{backColor: 194 , 194 , 194 }*
    This does not work:
    *{backColor: 194, 194, 194}*

  • I'm having a hard time understanding the best way I should have my color settings, set. Can I get someone's help with this?

I am scanning old photographs with an Epson V750 Pro and have a question on how my Photoshop should be set, or how the scanner should be set.
I have Photoshop 7.0 and it works fine, but I have started scanning some old photographs with my new Epson V750 Pro scanner and every time I go to open a scanned photograph, I receive a message reading:
My Photoshop's color setting are "custom" set: I never changed anything, but this is how I've always ued it and have never had any problem before. Is there a better way it should be set?
Right now these are the Color Settings:
Should any of these settings be different? If something in Photoshop should be changed, what should I do? I don't want to be asked this every time I open a scanned image.
Or, should any of the settings in the Epson Scanner when scanning?
    Right now:
The other color settings available are 48-bit Color and Color Smoothing, but sometimes when I use the 48-bit Color, Photoshop will give me an error when I go to save the edited scan, telling me there isn't enough space to save it. I have no idea why this happens because there is plenty of space, but I end up having to change the scan to 300dpi to save it.
Well, I don't know if any of this makes since, but I would love to receive any help. I would like to understand why I am having this problem and how the color settings should be, so I don't have this trouble anymore.
    Thanks,
    Sean

In Epson Scan, click Configuation at the bottom of the main window, and try these settings.
If it doesn't work, I think it'll  be ok converting to sRGB in Photoshop,
Edit: You can set PS to convert to sRGB automatically under Color Settings > Color Management  Policies > RGB.
But if you can control it from Epson Scan, that's probably preferrable.

  • Acrobat 9.4.4 won't sync with CS5 color settings

The color settings in Acrobat used to sync with the rest of the Creative Suite (via Bridge), but now it doesn't. I'm not seeing any way to make it happen either. It appears to be a bug or defect in the product. Can anyone confirm or resolve this?

Hi, Steve. Yes, I do switch settings with some regularity. I have custom settings for a newspaper that runs ads for one of my largest clients. (The default newspaper setting is not good enough, especially for grayscale.) I use the North American Web/Internet settings for preparing web graphics. And I use the North American Prepress 2 settings for everything else. Even when Acrobat would sync with the rest of the suite, it was grudging. It would take several seconds or longer. Sometimes longer than I could wait. The question that really is left begging is why Acrobat has so much trouble with something that InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator do routinely.

  • Please help with correct color settings

I'm using ID CC. Depending on which one, my printers want my final PDFs either as PDF/x-1a (I know what it does in terms of flattening) or PDF/x-4.
I need all color images to wind up as CMYK regardless of what they were when placed. I need all 100%K blacks to stay that way and not get converted to a rich black.
Presently, my document color settings are as follows:
Settings: North America General Purpose 2
    Working Spaces:
    RGB: sRGB IE61966-2.1
CMYK U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
    Color Management Policies:
    RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles
CMYK: Preserve Numbers (Ignore LInked Profiles)
    Conversion Options:
    Engine: Adobe (ACE)
    Intent: Relative Colorimetric
I use the default settings for either PDF/x-1a or PDF/x-4 (plus having ink manager convert all spots to process) and and always receive a yellow warning triangle with the following warning under general:
The preset specifies source profiles that don't match the current color settings file. Profiles specified by the color settings file will be used.
What do I need to check in my document color settings to avoid that error message (the resulting files do seem to be correct for what I need; just want to make sure I've set it right in terms of that error). Of course, any other thoughts are always appreciated too.
Also, what should my document color settings be if the final document will be black & white (grayscale) and only contains data on the black plate?

    Peter Spier wrote:
That warning is normal and nothing to worry about. It just means your document color settings don't match the preset, and the document settings will be used, which you want.
But the other part of your post that IS bothersome is that by definition PDF/X-4 does not convert colors, and it preserves embedded profiles, so that color conversion can be done at the RIP. There's no way that's compatible with "I need all color images to wind up as CMYK regardless of what they were when placed."
Thank you. I had just begun testing PDF/X-4 at the insistence of people here that it was the way to go. Then it looks like for these jobs wehre I must wind up with everything as CMYK I should continue using PDF/x1-a which does do that and which I've used for that in the past.
What about for work that is all b/w (grayscale)? Any advice on settings for that?

  • Color Settings with Epson R1800

    Hi
I am using an Epson R1800 with Photoshop CS5 and Lion. When trying to print I do not have the color management option and under Print Settings Color: and Color Settings: both are greyed out. This problem does not occur with my Epson D68 or when using Numbers and TextEdit.
Any advice would be much apreciated.
    Peter

Every printer has different drivers and different functionality. You can either continue looking through the printers print dialogue to see if it supports the feature you're looking for or you will need to put in a feature request to Epson and hope on later revisions they include it.  Because the print drivers are supplied to Apple from the printer manufacturer Apple has little control over the drivers.

  • Color Settings change with resizing Photoshop window

I have been seeing a weird phenomenom with Photoshop lately and I hope someone can help me figure this out. I have been editing photos in Lightroom. I occasionally take a photo into Photoshop for more editing and when I do this, if I make any change to the program window side, the color changes to a darker, more muted looking photo. If I minimize the program, nothing changes. If I either change the window size to a smaller, non-maximized window or drag it to my secondary display, the color changes to what I am guessing is a different color space. The only way to fix this is to shut down Photoshop and restart it. I am sure this is some setting in Photoshop color settings, but not sure. Should I have my color settings set to my monitor calibration file or should it be Adobe RGB? Not sure what Lightroom edits in. I do have it set up to send the file to Photoshop in Adobe RGB.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Toby

Do you even know how to nuke and re-set Photoshop's preferences, colorplak?  Your last post seems to reveal that you don't understand what I'm talking about. Here's a link you can click on:
Preference file functions, names, locations | Photoshop CC
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CC Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
Note for Photoshop 14.1 and later: If you use Generator and reset your Preferences, Generator is disabled. Choose Preferences > Plug-ins to turn it back on.
Video: Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.
    Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Export to PDF Color Settings

It's a long time since I've prepared a color document for printing - the last time I was using ID CS - now I'm using CS4. So I want to make sure that I'm doing everything right.
All images originate from Photoshop, and have the CMYK icc profile for the press embedded. There is one grayscale image, in the Gamma 1.8 space.
There are some objects (text frames) that are filled with CMYK swatches, and the document itself is set up with the same CMYK profile as the images.
In the output tab of the Export PDF dialog, I'm tempted to use the following settings:
    Color Conversion: No color conversion
    Destination: -
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include All Profiles
    Or should it be
    Color Conversion:Convert to Destination
    Destination: Document CMYK
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include All Profiles

If your printer wants profiles you need use their output CMYK profile as your working CMYK space, and either assign that profile to your ID doc and its objects or use it to make CMYK conversions.
Including CMYK profiles causes problems downstream only when they conflict with the destination profile use by the printer—if you have good communication with your printer there would be no reason to be using conflicting profiles.
If you decide not to include profiles make sure you convert to Document CMYK when you export. If you choose No Color Conversion and don't include profiles, there's the potential of having untagged RGB objects in the PDF, which may or may not separate correctly at output.

  • Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?

I'm  using Firefox 3.6.8 (and sometimes IE 8.0.6001.18702IC) on Windows XP Pro, SP 3.
For some weeks now, I have been unable to hear any sounds on anything Flash-based, from YouTube to games at MSN.com or embedded videos on any site using Flash.  Initially I had assumed it to be because of having QuickTime installed because I know QT likes to hijack everything.  I uninstalled QT (and Real Player) and Flash Player then reinstalled Flash Player (and Shockwave Player just in case) and guess what?
Yup.  Nothing.  When I uninstalled everything, I used a program called Revo Uninstaller, which includes a registry cleaning option.  I then used Abexo and WinASO's registry cleaners to make sure I got everything else that even looked like QuickTime off my hard drive.
When I reinstalled Flash, the following programs appeared in C:\Windows\system 32\Macromed\Flash:
    Flash 10i.ocx (10.1.82.76)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX (10.1.82.76)
    FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.82.76)
    genuinst (6.0.2800.1531)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.dll (10.1.82.76)
    NPSWF32.dll (10.1.82.76)
    KB931433
    FlashInstall
    Install
    Flashplayer.xpt
When I check IE's "Tools" and look for add-ons, it says that Flash (Shockwave Flash) is enabled.  I even enabled the other Adobe add-ons for Acrobat and such just to be sure.  Firefox shows Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director both to be enabled.  The Flash control panel settings don't help: I have all sites set to store about 100 KB on my computer to make sure there's enough room for everything but still nothing.
Before anyone asks, my audio drivers are up to date, thanks to the manufacturer's website.  I have DirectX 9.0c installed and everything else works fine.  I can play audio and video elsewhere with no problems.  It's only Flash that's showing me this trouble and there's no hint as to what else could be interfering with Flash.
    Any ideas?

Well, great.  I tried the uninstall/reinstall before, but not with the uninstaller, so I was hopeful that this time might do it.  No such luck.  The video still plays, but no sound.
All the sound settings are working with everything else from games to media players.  I set Windows' firewall to allow both the ActiveX and plugin for Flash, just in case.
In the Flash folder, I now have:
    Flash10l.ocx (10.1.102.64)
    Flash Util10l_ActiveX (10.1.102.64)
    FlashUtil10l_Plugin (10.1.102.64)
    Genuinst (6.0.2800.1531)
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll (10.1.102.64)
    NPSWF32.dll (10.1.102.64)
And the setup and text files that went with 'em.
I've also done a system restart since then and zip.
I went through IE and Firefox and looked for any file associations (like .flv) that I could manually change over to using Flash, but no go.  The settings panels for Flash have all been set to allow YouTube specifically (as a test) and to allow 10KB of storage space for all affected sites.
Now what?  I'm really not looking forward to a reformat and reinstall, but it's looking like that's what it's going to take.

Subject: Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?
Something is strange with your list of modules; you list FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.102.64), but this is really 10.1.85.3
I recommend that you uninstall Flash Player completely (using http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html), then restart Windows, and delete all remaining files in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash.
Next reinstall both ActiveX (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe) and the plugin (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe).
After that, if the problem persists, have a look at this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83739.html

  • Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome

Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome. Works in IE. This is my first time trying to post a question - so please be kind. I am also not good with code and am finding css a real challenge after learning to design based on tables. I'm using CS5.
The "test" page with the slide show is: http://www.reardanwa.com/index-slides.html   The same page without the slide show is http://www.reardanwa.com/
I realize the images are not ideally sized - I'll fix those once I get the pages to function.  Maybe I need a different slide show? I would prefer a widget that I can modify to required size & postition. Again - I'm not good at building with code from scratch.
The problem is the naviagation links that are directly next to the slide show do not work in Firefox of Chrome. They do work in IE.
I've read about using jQuery.noConflict(); code but can't figure out the correct way to use it in my case or whether that's even part of the solution. I know my code is not well organized as I have cobbled together from various sources in an attempt to format the page the way the client wants it. Also, FYI, I will eventually try to make the page work in Surreal CMS.
I've spent sevaral days over the last several weeks trying to solve sth slide show/navigation conflict - so any specific light you can shed will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
