Confused.. trying to stop a flash video using java

Hi, I am trying to put a video on a webpage that uses java to
hide it's visibility.
This layer has a video, and when a person clicks on a link
java hides the layer and it is supposed to stop the video from
playing. I know how to hide the layer, but I am new to flash and I
have not seen a way to use java to turn of the video.
Any ideas? How I can use a simple java function to turn the
video off?
Many thanks for any ideas to solve this.
Joe

I'm pretty sure that you mean Javascript and not Java. Have a
look at the ExternalInterface class. There are some examples in the
online help that demonstrate calling a function in a Flash movie
from Javascript in the HTML doc.

Basically a compiler similar to javac, but which produces swf binaries instead of .class binaries.

Whenever I try to play a flash video my PC completely crashes or freezes.

If Flash videos actually crash your entire computer, rather than causing [[The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed]] notice, try this:
Turn off hardware acceleration in your Flash Player display settings (Right-click on any Flash video, click "Settings", select the Display tab and uncheck “Enable hardware acceleration".

This is the web page I am having issues with Safari:
    http://doc-fu.com/episodes
NOTE: This site is built using Drupal 6
I've tested this page on all other browsers MAC + PC and the videos load fine and play accordingly, even the preview poster displays
Testing the same page with Safari MAC + PC and I get a blank Flash screen but the YouTube logo still appears, see following image:
Here comes the confusing part, Under HTTP I get the above blank Flash screen YET when I switch to HTTPS like so https://doc-fu.com/episodes, the videos display and play as expected. Additionally, when under HTTPS all the other browsers DO NOT display the flash video.
I am able to play videos on YouTube's website.

  • Trying to export to flash video

I thought there was a way to export to flash video within FCP, but apparently that doesn't look like that's the case. How do I export my project to a flash video file?
Is there a program I should install (e.g. the sorenson squeeze?) in order to convert?
    Thanks.

Sorenson Squeeze will work for you. But also take a look at the products Wes suggested. Pick the one that works for you.
Keep in mind that there are two options for exporting to a flash file. One is to export as an .swf file, which includes the little player with transport controls and all, the other is to export as an .flv file, this file requires that the website or whatever have a flash video player (not to be confused with Adobe's Free Flash Player) this player is a control box that calls for the flv file and then plays it. The flv file is smaller but won't play on its own.
    Hope this helps,
    K

  • Insert Flash Video using Dreamweaver CS3

    Hello,
If I were to import an FLV into Flash CS3, I would have the
ability to add text or images to the movie as needed. However, I am
testing Dreamweaver's ability to insert a Flash video directly onto
a web page, without the use of Flash CS3. I'm using Progressive
Download with the "Halo Skin 3" component. My question is: can the
Flash Video component inserted by Dreamweaver CS3 be edited somehow
using Flash CS3? I would be attempting to add text to the first
    frame of the movie.
    Thanks.

  • My Firefox 30 does not play flash videos using adobe vs 14.0.0.145 which is the build for various browsers including IE. My IE works fine with V14.0.0.145.

It works with youtube, but not my model railroader site. I have added the website to the exceptions list and contacted their administrator. Their administrator says firefox must be blocking it.

I can play the video, but on my connection, it seems to pause and drop some frames every several seconds.
If you haven't already tried this:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
This might not be related, but some users have reported that the Epson E-Web Print extension causes some glitches with the user interface in Firefox 29-30. If you do not use that extension much, you might try disabling it for a time to see whether that affects anything.
Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can disable individual extensions on the right side.

  • Trying to export a small video using Quick Time conversion

Hi...i apologize if this is a stupid question...i'm still kind of new at FCP. I'm trying to export a small one and a half minute video into a Quicktime file that's less than 1 GB. I exported as a Quick Time movie and it came out to 2.6 GB. I tried compressing using Compressor that and it took over 2 hours so I canceled it. I then tried exporting using Quick Time conversion and it came out to 66 MB, which is more what i'd expect. Except that the picture was only in the upper left hand corner of the Quick time viewer...the rest was black. I tried adjusting the dimensions, etc. but it didn't work. Any idea why this is happening? Are there some standard settings I can use for this? The video is for the internet so I'm not too terribly concerned about the picture quality. Thanks.

What format is your media, Easy Setup and what are your Sequence Settings?
    They should all match.
When you export, do so using the following path: File > Export > Export to QuickTime.
Make sure that "With Current Settings" and " Make Movie Self-Contained are selected.
This will give you an independent movie that is not compressed and uses the same codec as your source material.
Depending on how you want to deliver your movie will determine what happens at the next stage.
    Post some details about it.

  • Problem with Flash video/dropdowns in Mozilla

Am trying to add a flash video to a webpage using a
Dreamweaver extension called Active Slideshow Pro by DMXZone.
The page can be viewed: www.faith.org.uk/Testindex.html
In IE7 it works fine. The video shows and the dropdowns of
    the menu work correctly.
In Mozilla Firefox the video works but the dropdowns do not
    show.
If I remove the block of coding which is generated by the
    DMXZone extension:

I would be most grateful for anyone's advice on this.

A discussion with Adobe support lends the idea that MPEG
layer 4 might be an issue. That since these videos come from DVD
perhaps encoded with MPEG layer 4 that that could be the reason tha
all of them have this problem. (Some were done using AVI - I have
to check and see if that makes a difference)
    BUT
According to the PDF from Adobe Design - Flash Video Encoder
Wizard - By Tom Green and Jordan L. Chilcott
Flash should be able to convert an MPEG4 file. (Well it does
but they all stop after 30 sec.) Now how do I solve this problem?
All the videos still stop after 30 sec.s
    quote snip snip>>
    Flash Video Encoder Wizard
By Tom Green and Jordan L. Chilcott
The first thing you have to understand about the use of video
    in Flash® is the original
video must be converted to a format Flash can read. This
    format is FLV (Flash Video)
and you can either use Flash, the Flash Video Encoder, or
    third-party software to
create the FLV file. If you use video-editing software such
    as Adobe® After Effects®,
you can also export the file as a FLV file. If you are a
    Dreamweaver® user, the current
    version of Dreamweaver—Dreamweaver 8—contains a
feature that allows you to add
an FLV at the click of a button.
The purpose of the Encoder, therefore, is to convert the
video file to the FLV format.
When you installed Flash Professional 8, the Flash Video
    Encoder application was
also installed on your machine. If you also have QuickTime,
    Adobe After Effects,
Avid Studio, or Final Cut Pro installed on your machine,
    they, too, were given the
capability to use the Encoder when it was installed.
If you will be converting a video to the FLV format, the
video must be in one of
    these formats:
    • AVI—Audio Video Interleave
    • MOV—QuickTime 4 or later
    • MPEG—Motion Picture Experts Group
