Confusion over just which download is the 11g client

Hello all,
Your newest of newbie's here. I am installing SAS on some windows 7 desktops. SAS looks at the our Oracle Database. I need oracle 11g client in order to make the connection to the database.
From the Oracle download page I selected: microsoft windows 32 bit file 1 and file 2. Is this what you downloaded and called 11g client? I installed it on the system and the SAS program still can't "see" the database. I maybe running into environmental variable and path stuff but I thought I would ask if I was working under the correct assumption that the win32_11gR2_database 1 of 1 and 1 of 2 are, in fact, the client.
If you can answer this you are my savior.

Pl identify which version of Win 7 - you will need Professional or higher.
Pl also identify which exact version of "11g". Yes, there are two zip files that you need to download and extract into the same folder, and then follow the install instruction in the doc
11gR1 -http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32007/toc.htm
11gR2 - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24187/toc.htm
This only installs the client version that can connect to a remote Oracle database
Do you need a database to be created on each Win machine ?

  • I cannot play a movie I just recently downloaded from the iTunes store

I cannot play a movie I just recently downloaded from the iTunes store

I purchased an album from the iTunes store VIA the wish list Purchase option.
The 2 albums and 3 songs were purchased.    However, one of my songs was stuck in the "Computer is not authorized / Already Authorized" loop.  Where it asks me to authorize a song, but then says the computer is already authorized and doesn't play the song.
I noticed looking at "Get Info" there were two key differences.
The songs that were valid and would play have:
    Kind: Purchased AAC audio file
    Purchased by: **********
    Account Name: *****@gmail.com
The one song that would NOT play and caused the authorization loop has:
    Kind: AAC audio file
Purchased by:   <this field was NOT PRESENT like it was on the other files>
    Account Name: *****@gmail.com
(**** = redacted, however the two Account Name fields were identical)
As you can see, the Account name match, but the "Purchased By" field is missing and the Kind is not marked as "purchased".
THIS IS A BUG.  As the entire album was bought under the same method, same time, and same account, yet, one file is improperly tagged, and does not play.  The trouble file was found in iTunes store, added to Wish list, and purchased in the same session, no other log-off, shutdown, or iTunes restart to cause a selection of anouther account name.
This leads me to believe that iTunes is not properly tagging a file after it is downloaded that it has been purchased, thus, causing the loop.
Apple can't blame anyone else here, as only apple hardware and software were involved in this.  MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.  iTunes 10.7 (21)

  • Confused about software i downloaded from the Mac App Store

So yesterday i downloaded the Soundcloud App since i love the way that community and music binds together and i got the app to use it like my main music source since iTunes store is not open in my current area and i can't buy my music. And yesterday i took a look at the plans and stuff since i saw that you are limited to 120 upload and i was confused because i only want to listen to music not upload can someone clear this out for me please ?
    Thanks

If you google "soundcloud app" you come up with a lot of links. One of which was this. Hope it helps:

  • Download for XDK 11g as add-on to 11g Client?

    At http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/xml/xdkhome.html I can see only a 10g XDK package. Where's the 11g XDK?
I have sample OCI Spatial code, which also depends on XMLType, and thus the code includes xml.h, but this header is only available as part of a full 11g server install, not the 11g client install.
I don't think it's practical to have all developers install the server instead of the client just to be able to interact in the code with XMLType. Does anyone know when the 11 XDK will be available as a stand-alone download?
Any advice / work-around awaiting this, to avoid having to install the full 11g server?
    Thanks, --DD

This section assumes that you installed Oracle Database from either CD-ROM or from an archive downloaded from Oracle Technology Network (OTN). The Oracle Database CD installs the Oracle XDK by default.

  • Which way do the packets go?

Hi folks- I've done my best to eliminate sources of wireless interference in my apartment, however, some interference does remain (there are about 10 neighboring wireless devices, albeit none are on my channel) and with my network configuration it's possible that there is just no solution to the occasional airTunes music skip... For the record, playing music on my MBP, even when playing 320kpbs tracks I only get skips when my MBP is backing up to the TimeCapsule. In general I have 30SNR on my MBP connection and 25SNR on my AirPort Express (AX) (readings taken off my TC when viewed through AirPort utility, under normal operating conditions). This is also with multicast at 11mbps, which thus far has provided the best results to airTunes.
    Here's my setup:
MBP(n) in kitchen via wifi 15ft & 2 walls to TC(n) in bedroom
AX(g) in kitchen via wifi 10ft & 2 walls to TC(n) in bedroom
    Now here's the question:
When I play music on my MBP over airTunes which way do the packets go? Do they first go to the TC and then get routed over to the AX? Or is airTunes smart enough just to send the audio packets direct to the AX? I assume it is the former because if it was the latter I'd expect no music skips at all.
Thanks in advance! Any other recommendations on resolving airTunes skips would be greatly appreciated.
    Scott

Previously, in an effort to make my airTunes more stable, I tested a WDS setup with the TC(n)&AX(g). This didn't prove to be any better than my current setup so I abandoned the WDS due to concern over the additional bandwidth it uses.
Well, as you already know, the biggest disadvantage of using a WDS in a mixed (802.11g/n) environment is two-fold: 1) The overall bandwidth is cut in half for each base station added to the WDS, and 2) It only operates in 802.11g. Both major drawbacks for streaming, even audio streaming ... so, even if you gain a bit of ground by being able to stream directly to the AX, you lost a lot to get there bandwidth-wise.
I do currently have the TC(n) configured to Allow this network to be extended, however, I'm not certain the AX(g) plays well with that. Does it ?
Unfortunately, you would need another 802.11n AirPort to take advantage of that feature. The AX(g) wouldn't know what to do with that. Basically, you're telling the TC that it could be extended.

  • How to access .dmp data with the Instant Client?

I'm a total beginner, and am trying to access a .Dmp database. I have installed (on Linux i386):
Instant Client Basic 11.2 + SDK + SQLPlus
I'm aware that I have to further set the environment variables ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and think I know how it should be done.
The files installed in the oracle directory are as follows:
    $ ls /usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/lib
    glogin.sql libocci.so libsqlplusic.so ottclasses.zip
    libclntsh.so libocci.so.11.1 libsqlplus.so xstreams.jar
    libclntsh.so.11.1 libociei.so ojdbc5.jar
    libnnz11.so libocijdbc11.so ojdbc6.jar
    $ ls /usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/bin
    adrci genezi sqlplus
But this is where I hit the wall. Just a couple of questions:
How do I make the Client to access the data? I've read a bit about name resolution such as tnsnames.ora and EZConnect, but have no idea what these are, even conceptually.
How do I actually start/configure the Oracle client? Is there an executable somewhere?
Can the .dmp file be even read by the client or do I have to use the SQLPlus to make queries (as I've read somewhere)?
As you see I'm clueless. What are the next steps, or could you point me to a practical tutorial that would show what I need to do.
Thanks a lot for any help..

    Right,
I browsed the manual, but I didn't understand whether the import utility part of the oracle database software?
Are there any freely downloadable tools by which I can import the data (and then read with a client?).Everything in the Utilities manual is part of the database software set. If you have a database, you have all of those utilities. If you don't have a database, no third party equivalent to those utilities (if such existed) would be of any value.
Depending on your database version, the .dmp file could have been created with either 'exp' (export) or 'expdp' (datapump). Unfortunately, by default both utilities produce a file with the .dmp extension, but they are different formats and not interchangeable. You will need to find out exactly how the .dmp file was created. Actually, you need to find out the entire command used to create it, not just which utility, because the options used at export time will affect what options are available and desirable at import time.

  • 11g Client result set caching in OCI

I'm trying out this feature in the 11.1.0.6 release. My understanding of this feature is that when enabled with the appropriate server-side init.ora parameters, a 11g OCI client connecting to the instance will cache SQL results locally in some fixed amount of RAM on the client. The idea is that network roundtrips would simply disappear in this situation.
I'm not sure if it's working--or how to tell if it is. I have a 11g instance running and put the 11g client incl. sqlplus on a separate box, setting up TNS connectivity from client to server. Pretty standard stuff. I can connect fine and run the same query over and over, but I see incrementing execution counts on the database side and network traffic between the client and server so I'm guessing that the client-side caching isn't happening. There doesn't seem to be a ton of clear documentation on this feature so I wanted to see if anyone else has kicked it around.
    Bob

I am also facing the same issue (enabling client result set caching). I am using Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.2.0.
I have made the below configuration changes
    1. Enabled the client result set cache by setting the server side parameter 'client_result_cache_size' to 10485760 (10 MB)
    2. Restarted the oracle instance after setting the above parameter
    3. Added a table annotation by executing the statement ALTER TABLE emp RESULT_CACHE (MODE FORCE). I verified that the annotation is applied by query the user table later.
    4. Enabled statement caching on the client side i.e. on the JDBC driver.
    5. Used prepared statements to execute the query so that statement caching kicks in. From the driver logs I verified that execution of subsequent queries after the first one used the same statement handle.
After executing the select prepared statement query for three times I checked the CLIENT_RESULT_CACHE_STATS$ view. But this view didn't result in any rows.
As part of troubleshooting I even tried adding the /*+ RESULT_CACHE */ hint to the query but the view didn't gave any result.
Also on enabling sql trace I could see from tkprof that every execution of the query increased the number of rows fetched on the server which indicates that the client result set caching in OCI isn't working.
Are there any steps which I have missed?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle 11g Client and XML DB

We have moved our applications in a mix environment (DB on Linux and App. Server on Windows) on Oracle 11g.
On the past we have tested the applications and they were working, now seems nothing is ok, it is like the 10g instant client on Windows is unable to communicate with Oracle 11g DB working on XMLDB.
May I ask if someone have seen the same problems?
Testing on Windows all the environment it was all working, but it was installed all on the same machine.

Just need confirmation that the old 10g Java based Enterprise Manager is gone forever with 11g and there is no management console in the 11g client installation (at least I cannot find one). Confirmed. Same as in the Database install.
And after searching the threads ond Oracle documentation, it appears that I can install 11g database on my local pc and then have a dbconsole (not grid control). Please confirm that this dbconsole only points to the specific database installed on the same local pc, and it cannot be used to manage remotely located 10 or 11g databases. Confirmed. The DB Console is tied to one ORACLE_HOME one one HOST for one INSTANCE. The HOST and INSTANCE are used in the directory naming (of all stupidity) and configuration file contents under the ORACLE_HOME.
I am still in the planning stages for grid control installation and would like to use the smaller enterprise manager - java control. But again, there is no such Oracle application for 11g now? I must use grid control to manage multiple databases?Confirmed. Fortunately, the Grid Control is included in the Database license as per the database Licensing manual, and you can put the Grid Control on a separate machine. Since the Grid Control is fed using a single agent for all product (database, and anything else) on the target host, the Grid Control puts on a much smaller footprint on a database machine than even the old Java console.
Note that the 11g Grid Control will be (at least) announced tomorrow by WebCast - check OTN.

  • ODM client not bundled with 11g client install?

    All,
Our 10g Oracle Client install includes the Oracle Directory Manager.
We just installed the Administration version of the 11g client and I don't see ODM there.

  • Oracle 11g client Update Problem

    Hi ,
I have problem with oracle 11g client, I have a treatment that is has selected information and update after the last treatment. The problem is that the update is sometimes the enssemble fields, even those I do not want to update.
I use the 11g client with c #, my procedure is like update WHERE num = @ aram.I have doubts about the problems of loss of connection, because it give me the log: host not found, but there is a transaction, and in case of emergency I did a rollback.is there anyone who approaches to this problem??I took you to kindly help me, because the project and in production mode

Apart from the fact that this has nothing to do with Oracle Forms the certifications and the version checks of the installer are there for a reason. Copying one version file doesn't make your RHEL6 a RHEL3. RHEL6 most certainly uses a different kernel, different libraries, different everything then RHEL3 (yes, Software Vendors change version numbers of their products not just for fun!). You might get lucky (using your friend google) that you get it working with some effort, but this doesn't guarantee that everything works and given the fact that this is not certified getting help is not that easy. Better yet is to save yourself the time and stick with certified combinations (maybe use OEL insted of RHEL?)
    cheers

  • I give up with 11g client..

..well, I never found the admin tools to set up my TNSNames so i copied the relevant files from an old home backup. Toad started kicking out with a "Could not locate OCI.dll" and SQL Developer wouldnt work properly unless using direct connections. I removed everything and reinstalled 10g, which all worked well, I got my admin tools back and the only problem was the oci.dll being named oci.dll.o.1 which required a rename before Toad would start working again..
Hopefully, when 11g client proper (non beta) is released, there will be fewer problems

I have installed the 11g client for windows and so far it has properly worked, even though I have several Oracle Homes installed in my test server. You have mentioned something about a 10g database, does it mean that you have both DB10g and Cli11g installed on the same box along your toad application? 11g client works fine with a 10g database, but I have not tested how the toad environment works with 11g.
I suggest you to test the 11g installation and make sure you don't mix your paths in your PATH environment variable, otherwise, you may end up running a 10g application with 11g libraries.

  • 11g client connection to XE fails

    Hi,
I have installed the 11g client beta and Oracle XE on the same system running Vista Ultimate.
The 11g client can connect to Oracle 9i running on remote systems.
The XE sqlplus can connect to the local XE instance (and remote Oracle instance).
When I try to connect my application to the XE instance I get an exception:
    Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: ORA-12532: TNS:invalid argument
    In sqlnet.log I get:

When I change HOST and SERVICE_NAME it works perfectly well to connect to a remote Oracle instance.
Disabling the local firewall does not help.
In the PATH, the 11g client path comes before the XE path. (No ORACLE_HOME set)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Strange. I have 10g XE with the 11g ODAC beta, but I can connect using localhost as my TNS host name. Another solution may be using the IP address for localhost: 127.0.0.1
One thing to keep in mind is that SQLPlus comes with 10gXE, not 11g ODAC beta. So, the version of SQLPlus you are using is really from the 10g Home.
    Ming Man,
It sounds like you need to copy over a tnsnames.ora file to your new ODP.NET 11g Home or some other general Oracle connectivity configuration not set.

  • Latest Oracle 11g Client for Windows

I was able to download base Oracle 11g Client from
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html
Does anybody knows if this latest what they have for 11g ? Did Oracle release any patchset on top of that?

Patch 11.1.0.7.0 is available for download from metalink. Patch number is 6890831. Of course, you would need to use your metalink login credentials for this download.

  • 11g client create trigger

    Hi
I am trying to create a trigger using the 11g client
i go into the schema on the database tree in the window on the left and find the table i want and right click triggers
i click create and name my trigger and write the code in the trigger body
in advanced i click trigger for each row and then fill out the "Old as" and "New as" fields as "old" and "new"
i change it to an after trigger and on insert and update
in my trigger body i reference old and new with :old and :new and i get an error saying
missing in out parameter at index:: 1
    heres the code
    if :old.segment4 <> :new.segment4 then
    insert into pa_projects_status_change
    (project_id, status, changedate)
    select
    :new.project_id, segment4, sysdate
    from dual;
    end if;
the database is version 9.1 I think
    thanks in advance

Although I didn't have any problems to install the client on Windows XP (assuming it's Professional, not Home), you may try a custom installation instead of 'runtime'. The last lines in the logfile refer to the .net component, not sure whether there's a problem.
