Connect oracle 8 client to oracle 9i server

hi friends,
I have earlier oracle 8.0.4 installed on my network.
Now i upgraded server to oracle 9i release 1.
How can i make connectivity between oracle 8.0.4 client to oracle 9i server?
Should i install oracle 9i client on every machine?
what will be the role of net configuration assistant's listner and naming method setting?
thanks.

You should be able to connect to your Oracle 9i databases just as you would connect to your 8.0.4 databases using the 8.0.4 client. To simply make a connection, you should not need to install new versions of the Oracle client, although it may be necessary to take advantage of some of the 9i functionality that requires client-side support.
If you are using local naming now (i.e. you maintain a tnsnames.ora file on each machine), you will need to continue maintaining a tnsnames.ora file and just add new entries, either manually or through the Net Configuration Assistant (may be called Net8 Easy Config on 8.0.4).

  • Install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003 server

    Hello,
Is it possible to install Oracle SQL* Net 2.3(16 bit) Client on Windows 2003 server. If it is then could someone give me links from where I could get more information on this (like the steps to install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003).
    Thanks.

the 16-bit applications are not supported by Windows 2003 server x64 edition.

I have never tried to use 16-bit SQLNet client on Windows 2003 x86. I'm pretty sure that this combination will not be supported by Oracle , athough it could work.
As far as I remember the 2.3 client was shipped with the Oracle 7.3.
here is the desupport notice for Oracle 7

  • Oracle Client in Oracle 9iLite Setup

    Hi to all,
I am hving a Oracle 9i Database running on WINNT. Now i want my Linux Box to access that database certainly i will be needing a Net Assistant on Linux Box ie a Oracle Client.
I want to if I download oracle 9i Lite for linux then will it be having Oracle client to connect to the other database.

Not sure what you want to accomplish. Intalling Oracle9i Lite/Mobile Server on Linux is certainly doable, and in fact it would connect Mobile Server/Linux with the Oracle9i Database/NT during installation. We simply install the Net9 Linux client software on the Linux.

  • Oracle Client vs Oracle Database

Hi all, I am trying to istall Oracle 9i database on my laptop and I have a few questions. Does the Oracle 9i Database include the Oracle client or di I have to install them seperately?
I have Oracle 8i database running on my system, do I need to uninstall it before installing Oracle 9i or they can both co-exist?
I will appreciate your insight on these questions. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
client software is integrated into server software. It's possible to have both concurrently, 8i and 9i, on your machine. But, especially since this is laptop and not a server machine,
pay attention to the system requirements.

  • Issue with re-connecting a Client Computer to the Server Essentials R2 2012

I have an issue re-connecting a Client Computer to Server Essentials R2 2012.  The Client Computer in question was connected to the Sever originally.  I started getting Error Messages indicating that I was running out of storage room.  I
had been wanting to re-configure this Server with additional Hard Drives for some time, but something else always came up first.  Now, I was forced to address the problem.  I shut down the Server and added additional Hard Drives and while I was at
it I replaced the original Hard Drive that the Server Operating System was on with a much smaller Hard Drive, and reinstalled Server Essentials on that Drive.  Everything was working fine and the Server Back-up went fine to an external Hard Drive.
I was ready to re-install my Client Computers.  I started with my primary Production Computer first.  The Connector Software seemed to install fine, but as I moved through the Connection Wizard I received the following Error Message:  "Cannot
connect this computer to the network.  This computer is already connected to another Windows Server Network.  Before connecting this computer to the Windows Server Essentials network, you must remove this computer from the current network.
To resolve this issue, contact the person responsible for your network".  I am the Administrator.  I removed the Connector Software following the instructions in the "Troubleshooting connecting computers to the Server", but I continue
to get the Error Message whenever I attempt to re-connect the Client Computer.  I have not attempted to connect any of the other three Client Computers yet as I need to resolve this issue first on my primary production machine.  Where am I going
wrong?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi PARADOX-RED,
Based on the error messages that you provided, please remove the connector software from Control Panel completely. Then, in the problematic computer, please locate
to: Control Panel-> System-> select Change settings. And select the Computer Name tab in the System Properties dialog box, click
change button. Then in the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box, please take the computer out of the domain as a workgroup, and rejoin in new domain.
Please check if this issue can be solved. If it still exists, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • Oracle client for siebel server configuration

    Hi ,
To install siebel as prerequisite we are installing oracle client on the siebel server machine. Our client is providing ldap.ora instead of tnsnames.ora file. Through out my earlier projects we used to have tnsnames.ora entry which is having connection details of database. CAn you Please confirm instead of having tnsnames.ora , can we use ldap .ora which is having Db server details in it. Have you ever seen other clients using this way without tnsnames.ora for siebel installation.
Can you please provide any documentation which confirms that we must need tnsnames.ora, not ldap.ora.
    Thanks much in advance.

  • How to install Oracle client Version 10.2.0.4 on a Windows server 2008

    Hi,
I need to install an Oracle client on a Windows Server 2008 (32-bit), how do I do that?
I want to install Oracle client version 10.2.0.4 (Instant Client Package - Basic: All files required to run OCI, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications).
Pls. advice, I can't find instructions for this installation on Oracle.com or anywhere else.

    thx, it looks promising...
but how to run the .jar files and which one to run, both Class12.jar and ojdbc14.jar, to start the installation?
Do I need to install the java runtime environment to run the .jar files?

  • How to validate prerequisite for ODP and Oracle Client connection

    Hi.
I have a very simple application on .Net that connect to Oracle using ODP (was compiled with Oracle.DataAccess dll 10.2).
I want to check "connection prerequisite" (application will be able to connect to DB) before installing this aplication on other computers?
How can I check that ODP.NET version 10.2 or higher is installed on target host (registry check is not enopugh)?
I know that I can check ODP entries in registry - but this will not check Oracle Client and compatibility between client and ODP.
Also, if ODP was installed by ODAC XCopy installation - registry may be not updated by new ODP entry.
And - if I am installing on the computer, DB was installed on, Oracle Client can be not installed separately.
And one more issue: When I tried to run "test connection" method from installation, that use referenced dll on machine, that has only ODAC (with ODP) 11, - "Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleInit.Initialize()
at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection..cctor()" error message was thrown (policies for both ODAC 10.2 and 11 are exists in GAC (assembly), pointing to Oracle.DataAccess 11 from ODP 2x bin).
So, How and which components can I check to ensure appropriate versions of ODP and Oracle Client were installed and application will be connected?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
You could check for the presense of Oracle.DataAccess.dll in the GAC. Bear in mind you'd also want to check the version and whether a policy files exists as well as a newer version + policy file will work too (but not without the policy file).
That wouldn't confirm the install is valid and works though, and I don't know of a way you could easily check that, apart from perhaps simply trying to run a small exe that attempts a connection to the database.
With respect to the type initializer exception, that occurs when ODP cant find the right oraops*.dll or oci.dll, usually due to the wrong one being found, but can also occur if one is not found at all. Quite often this is due to the application including ODP in its bin directory rather than letting ODP get picked up out of the gac. Prior to 10.2.0.2.20, ODP loads the dependencies based in PATH so multiple homes can cause it as well. 10.2.0.2.20 and higher ODP loads dll's based on DLLPATH registry entry.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • SSIS used to integrate SQ Server and Oracle - Is it necessary both 32 and 64 bits Oracle Clients installed?

    Hi all,
SQL Server 2012 EE 64 bits (SOURCE)
        Oracle 12c 64 bits (DESTINATION)
To make my solution - integrate SQL Server with Oracle - work, i had to install both 32 and 64 bits of the Oracle 12c Client. After that, i had to change the properties of my SSIS package to run on 32 bits only (properties > Debugging >
Run64BitRuntime set to FALSE). Before i made this change, the execution of my package was failing, but after setting Run64BitRuntime to false, the package ran successfully. Why is that?
I am thinking of unistalling the 64 bits ORacle Client from my Windows Server, but i fear that if i uninstall, my package stop working.
Any suggestions/corrections will be most appreciated.
       Thanks in advance
OBS1: I am using ODBC as the source and destination tasks.

    Hi FabrícioPJ,
The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of a provider have the same ID. Therefore, the SSIS runtime will select the appropriate version of the provider to use. 32-bit SSIS Designer always requires and uses the 32-bit version of a provider at design time. However
when running the package in 64-bit mode that the Run64BitRuntime project property is True, it automatically switches to the 64-bit version of the provider. When it couldn’t find 64-bit version of the provider, the package would be failed. For more details,
    please see:
    http://dougbert.com/blog/post/64-bit-considerations-for-sql-server-integration-services-final.aspx
So in your scenario, it seems that there is not a 64 bit provider for Oracle in your environment, so the issue occurs. Please make sure you have installed the correct 64-bit version of the Oracle provider.

  • Unable to open Oracle client "not located OCI.dll" (URGENT)

    Hi Experts,
I was installed the Oracle client 10g in my server to use the UDL file. for that i was installed oraOLEDB10.dll . now i am trying to connect to database servier from client throughing the error
The procedure entry point lxsCnvIntToNumStr could not be located in the dynamic link library OCI.dll.
    Please help on this
    Regards

    Obviously it is not urgent.
If it was truly urgent, you would:
    1) use your support contract to ask Oracle Support and/or
    2) describe in detail what your internet searching has found, what efforts you have tried and what has failed, and/or
    3) provide operating system information (which Windows, which edition, which service pack) and client information (how many Oracle products are installed, which versions, which patches)

  • What is an Oracle Client and why is it needed

    Hi,
I have an application that is using an Oracle database as data source. Application and database is located on two different servers. Now I will move application to a new server and to do this I need to install an Oracle client and install this on the new application server. From my understanding this Oracle client is needed to make it possible for the application server to communicate with the database server. I wonder if someone can tell me more about this Oracle client, functionality, role and why it is needed?
I have been recommended to install the Oracle client 10g version. Where can I download this together with instructions of installation process?
FYI - database used is Oracle 10g EE.

Third-party products (and Oracle's own too) need certain Oracle DLLs in order to connect to the database. This set of files is called the Oracle client. You may also want to learn about tnsnames.ora because you need to edit it in order to use Oracle client to Oracle database.
