Connect Oracle Reports to Ms Sql Server DB

Is it possilbe to Connect Oracle Reports to Microsoft Sql Server database. If yes then how. Please advice.
Thanks
Sami.

It is possible to connect Oracle database to MS Sql server database using the Oracle Transparent Gateway for MS SQL Server.
You can use the following links to configure such connection:

    thanksOracle Forms is best used against an Oracle database... so why on Earth would you want to use it against SQL Server?
    Aside from that, Oracle Forms is old technology... you'd be better using Oracle Application Express (Apex) for producing web based apps.
    If you must do things against an SQL Server database, you would need to set up heterogenous services connectivity (HS) and treat the SQL Server database as an external database.

  • Generic Connectivity -Oracle(10gR2) to MS SQL server - Creating DSN

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect Oracle 10gR2(10.2.0.4.0) on linux x86 to MS Sql Server on Windows XP
    I am referring the Metalink Note 264567.1 and using DataDirect ODBC drivers for the same
    I have a question here
    Do I need to create the System DSN on windows XP or on Oracle (linux server)?
    If it is on linux server, how to I create the System DSN on the Linux?
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Pk

    Hi,
    You need to create a DSN on the box where the HSODBC (the oracle db) is running, so in this case the Linux box.
    I'd assume there's documentation that comes with the 3rd party odbc driver on how to create a DSN with it. It probably depends on which version of driver manager you're using (pardon my ignorance, I do strictly Windows) so you'd probably want to check the docs for the driver manager. For example, if using unixODBC, the docs are on [their web site|http://www.unixodbc.org/].
    Hope it helps,

  • Connecting Oracle 8.17 to SQL Server 7.0

    Hi Everybody,
    I am trying to connect to SQL Server 7.0 from Oracle 8.17 using
    generic connectivity.
    I have configured all the files(listener.ora and tsnames.ora)
    and created a database link in Oracle.But when I try to execute
    a query against the linked server it gives me an error that says:
    "Unable to resolve the service name"
    I am using OLE DB connectivity.
    what could have gone wrong ? Please help me.

    Hi Fraser,
    Thank you for responding.
    I think I fixed that problem,actually there was a spelling
    mistake in one of the parameter files.
    But now I get another error message, says:
    "ORA: 02068: following severe error from MSOLEDB
    ORA: 28511: lost RPC connection to heterogenous

    (SERVICE_NAME=<SERVICE_NAME>)))
    Do I have to configure the SQL Server network utilities?
    I pinged both the servers ,they talk to each other.
    But when I use tnsping ,the client machine (i.e.,the SQL Server
    machine)talks to server(Oracle machine) but the server doesn't
    talk to the client.
    I am definitely not doing something right.

    Hi,
    As far as I know this is possible using ODBC and Oracle Open Client Adapter (OCA), but I do not know the details and the howto's.
    Probably you'll get a better answer when posting this question at the Reports forum:

    Have a look at the reports help for the purpose header and trailer sections. Here is an exert:
    "Report sectioning enables you to define multiple layouts in the same report, each with a different target audience, output format, page layout, page size, or orientation. You can define up to three report sections, each with a body area and a margin area: the names of the sections are Header, Main, and Trailer. By default, a report is defined in the Main section. In the other sections, you can define different layouts, rather than creating multiple separate reports. If you wish, you can use the margin and body of the Header and Trailer sections to create a Header and Trailer page for your reports."

    11.2 is beta at the moment. There is no official release date so far.
    As DG4ODBC is independant from the Oracle database (or the target database) you can use a 3 machine model:
    On the first machine you have your Oracle database, on a second machine running 32bit Windows you can install DG4ODBC and on the 3rd machine you can run your foreign database.
    If the SQL Server 2k is installed on a 32bit Windows machine, then you can also install DG4ODBC on this machine.
    In general the connection from an Oracle database to the DG4ODBC machine is done using SDQL*Net. The listener responsible for DG4ODBC will then load the DG4ODBC executable which will connect to the SQL Server using SQL Server ODBC driver.

  • [Forum FAQ] How do I disable all subscriptions without disabling Reporting Services and SQL Server Agent?

    Introduction
    There is the scenario that users configured hundreds of subscriptions for reports. Now they want to disable all the subscriptions, but Reporting Services and SQL Server Agent service should be enable, so the subscriptions will not delivery reports to users
    and users could run the reports and create jobs on the server.
    Solution
    To achieve this requirement, we need to list all subscriptions and their schedules by running query, then use loop statement to disable all the subscription schedules by Job name.
    On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server instance, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
    Type Server name and select Authentication, click Connect.
    Click New Query in menu to open a new Query Editor window.
    List all subscriptions and their schedules by running the following query:
    Use ReportServer
    go
    SELECT   c.[Name] ReportName,
    s.ScheduleID JobName,
    ss.[Description] SubscriptionDescription,
    ss.DeliveryExtension SubscriptionType,
    c.[Path] ReportFolderPath,
    row_number() over(order by s.ScheduleID) as rn
    into
    #Temp
    FROM
    ReportSchedule rs
    INNER JOIN Schedule s ON rs.ScheduleID = s.ScheduleID
    INNER JOIN Subscriptions ss ON rs.SubscriptionID = ss.SubscriptionID
    INNER JOIN [Catalog] c ON rs.ReportID = c.ItemID AND ss.Report_OID = c.ItemID
    select * from #temp
    Use the loop statement to disable all the subscription schedules by Job name:
    DECLARE
    @count INT,
    @maxCount INT
    SET @COUNT=1
    SELECT @maxCount=MAX(RN)
    FROM
    #temp
    DECLARE
    @job_name VARCHAR(MAX)
    WHILE @COUNT <=@maxCount
    BEGIN
    SELECT @job_name=jobname FROM #temp WHERE RN=@COUNT
    exec msdb..sp_update_job @job_name = @job_name,@enabled = 0
    SET @COUNT=@COUNT+1   P
    RINT @job_name
    END
    PRINT @COUNT

    Thanks,
    Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
    For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
    in a supported way?

  • Migrate VS SSDT Reporting Project to SQL Server Report Builder?

    In the past, I have developed SSRS reports using Visual Studio (BIDS/SSDT). Unfortunately, a company server migration has made it impossible for me to deploy my reporting projects using that devlopment environment, so it appears I have to resort to Report
    Builder now.
    I see that the SQL Server Reporting Services web app has an "Upload File" menu item.  However, it's not clear to me how these would then be translated into a Report Builder project.  I've heard that the SSRS project-building
    capabilities of Visual Studio go considerably beynd those of the Report Builder in SQL Server.
    What I'd like to know is: Can I develop a Reporting Services project in Visual Studio and then migrate it to Report Builder via upload? If so, what are the steps to accomplish this, and what, if any, are the drawbacks?
    - Mark Z.

    Hi Mark Zudeck,
    As per my understanding, you developed SSRS reports with report designer, now you could not deploy the reports to report manager, and you want to open the projects with report builder. If that is the case, please refer to the following steps:
    On the Start menu, click All Programs, and then click Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder.
    To create a new report, click the SQL Server icon in the upper left-hand corner of Report Builder, and then click New.
    To open an existing report stored on your local machine or a report server, click the SQL Server icon in the upper left-hand corner, and then click Open.
    If you don’t see the report server in the list of existing servers, close the Open Report dialog box and then click Connect at the bottom of Report Builder to connect to the server.
    For detail information about Report Builder, please refer to the following document:

  • Remote Connection from SAP to MS-SQL server

    Hello Experts,
    We have been following 2 options so far and we have come across some issues
    The first Option is to call a stored procedure (this is our preferred method) which does the data transfer for us
    We have been able to test this scenario successfully from SQL Server side
    However, while calling the stored proc via native SQL from ABAP we have come across an issue which is due to SQL 2005 changes (Schema implementation and difference in the security context)
    While calling the stored procedure from the ABAP Code we have an error
                The program short dumps with runtime error DBIF_DSQL2_SQL_ERROR, exception CX_SY_NATIVE_SQL_ERROR. The database error code is 15274, and the error text is
                 "Access to the remote server     is denied because the current security context is not trusted."
    This issue is new after the SQL Server 2005.
    We are trying to resolve that.
    Secondly we have been trying the DBCON option as well as per OSS Note 323151
    We have a few things thatu2019s impacting our scenario:
    The remote servers are in a different domain
    The remote servers are located  in DIZ
    Remote server is a named instance
    Remote server has been configured with a different port than standard (1565) u2013 All Connection strings will need port in there
    The Database name starts with a numeric value
    Due a combination of factors as mentioned above the standard approach does not work
    Have any of you used this approach while connecting from SAP to MS-SQL server? Do you know of any successful methods to connect to SQL using ABAP (or not) from SAP.
    Thanks in advance,

    Yes,
    DBConnect & UDConnect.
    Works like a charm.
    We write data into a MS-SQL database via DBConnect & an ABAP program (using open sql).

  • Is it possible to deploy 2 SCOM 2012 R2 reporting in a SQL server which already has SCOM reporting of a different management group but with 2 different reporting instance.

    Hi Experts,
    I have a typical situation in the LAB environment. Hope some one helps. I have Installed a SCOM 2012 R2 with SQL 2012 SP1 in a single server (Management group 1). I have installed another management group on another server using this SQL server for its database
    so i have everything going fine.
    The first management group has its reporting installed in the SQL server. For the second i created a new named instance for that. But i cannot run the SCOM setup in the SQL server (Also holding the Management group 1 MS) as 1 st reporting is already there.
    When i run the setup it is asking me to repair it. I don't get the install option so i can install the reporting for management group 2 in the named instance.
    Default instance is being used by the 1st management group.
    Can any one figure a possibility for installing 2 SCOM reporting services for different management groups in a same SQL 2012 server please.
    Gautam.75801

    Hi Yan Li,
    Thank you for the reply. So as you are aware If i need to instal reporting, i need to run the SCOM 2012 R2 setup in the SQL server and select reporting and select the
    instance and then mention the management server there right. I am not getting that option there it is asking me to remove or repair the existing installation as there is already a SCOM entire setup including reporting there. As it is a lab there is no problem
    in testing. I have 2 reporting instances. Any suggestions for me on how to overcome this issue and deploy the second reporting in the new named instance ?
    Below is the screenshot of the error what i am talking about when i run SCOM 2012 R2 setup to install reporting in the SQL server
    When i click on add feature reporting is greyed out (As already 1st management groups reporting is installed)
    When i click on remove or repair it
    uninstalls the existing one. But i want both SCOM 2012 r2 reporting to be there(For both Management group). Is it possible ? If yes What is the trick to run the setup ?

  • Oracle 8i to MS SQL Server replication

    Im new to Oracle, but a MS SQL Server DBA. Im helping in the architecture of a data warehouse that pulls from some disparate sources, including Oracle 8i, into a SQL Server 2000 box. We could use batch processing to pull updated data from the Oracle database to populate our data warehouse, but we were hoping to get real-time transactional processing via some replication scenario. My terminology may be wrong from the Oracle perspective, but I think the transactional replication that SQL Server supports is called synchronous replication in Oracle. My question is, does anybody know how to do synchronous replication from an Oracle server to a SQL Server? Or perhaps which Oracle product supports it? Thanks!

    ===========================================================
    I'm working on the similar requirements, exactly my source DB is DB2, and the target DB is Oracle. I have two year experience with Oracle, but I know nothing about DB2. There a about 50 tables in source DB. Transactions on source DB is not too heavy(less than 10/Second), and the mainfram are all powerful.
    I've though about Oracle Gateway, but I'd rather save it as the backup solution. For one thing, neither co-workers nor I have experience with it. Second, I'm afraid the Gateway performance would not be satisfactory. Furthermore, words has it that we should pay for the Gateway. So My ideas to real-time replication of the two DB is as following:
    (1) use trigger in DB2 to reponse to immediate transactions in source DB;
    (2) use Embedded C/SQL to extract those transactions into flat files;
    (3) FTP files to the target server;
    (4) On target server, SHELL scripts read the files and call Pro*C to apply the transactions into Oracle DB.
    but, some problems really get me.
    A: in step(1) and (2), How to set EC to do its work in reponse to trigger? I know that one can call host script in Oracle trigger, but I have no idea about DB2 trigger. Maybe, I can create a real-time monitoring EC process to address it. what's your opinion?
    B: I should maintain all transaction metadata by myself. e.g. INSERT, UPDATE old/new data, DELETE info. It is originally covered by the database, and it isn't easy to handle it squarely.
    C: How to address some exception? like database rollback, the process recovery in case of any interruptions in the above steps.
    Could you share me some idea, Thank you!
