Connect to computer to refresh iPad 2 wifi sync 7.1.1

Not a question as much as a suggestion.
I recently began syncing my iPad 2 via wifi using iTunes and my iMac.
I apologize for not getting the precise wording of the prompt which appeared on my iPad 2 screen during the install of IOS 7.1.1, but it went something like:
'Connect to computer to refresh iPad 2 wifi sync'
I did as I was prompted and as I recall after connecting my iPad 2 to my iMac there were on-screen prompts which had to be answered in order to proceed with the operation, something like 'Trust the computer to which the iPad is connected?' and a similar prompt on my iMac's monitor. After answering both in the affirmative the operation was completed. A few seconds later I get another iMac alert to the effect that the sync could not complete because the iPad could not be found, or words to that effect. Initially I had this sinking feeling, wondering what else might go wrong so I began to click the tabs / buttons at the top of my iTunes iPad 2 interface to discover that my photos seemed to be missing, etc.
It's easy to over-think a situation like this and while I do not profess to be any sort of an Apple guru, I have been a Mac user since the release of the very first Black and White Mac Classic which is to say I have owned and operated my share of Apple 'devices' over the years and have found that sometimes the most effective 'fix' for a problem is to do nothing at all EXCEPT to restart, so that's what I did. I quit iTunes and while it wasn't running I restarted my iPad 2. After my iPad was completely up and running I re-opened iTunes and eureka! Problem solved.

I guess "a reboot" might have been a little ambiguous, but I meant that I restarted OS X (10.8.5, iTunes 11.1, iPad on 5.1.1, iPhone 3Gs on 6.1.3, iPhone 5s (originally not showing up) on 7.0.2).
Prior to that I had rebooted the iPhone 5s a couple of times, connected via cable and toggled WiFi sync settings a few times, restarted iTunes a few times, attempted to "Sync Now" from the iPhone 5s (connected to power and not) a few times. None of these actions had any apparent effect.
I also renamed the iPhone 5s, which originally had the same name as the 3Gs, but that didn't appear to make any difference either, and probably isn't at all problematic, nor is it part of your scenario.
The only other thing I did that might have been related was to assign the iPhone 5s a DHCP reservation on the router, which the other devices already had, effectively giving it a fixed IP. But, even that appeared to make no difference. It was only after I restarted OS X that it showed up. The iPad showed up first, and fairly quickly, the iPhone 5s, finally, after a delay of maybe a minute or more.
The OS X restart was almost certainly the first restart after installing iTunes 11.1, so it's possible the install wasn't able to take care of everything it needed to w/o the restart.
Your "Automatically sync..." option is probably disabled because you have the "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically" option (iTunes Preferences/Devices) turned on. My "Prevent..." option is unchecked and "Automatically sync..." is checked, as well as having "Sync ... over WiFi" checked.

Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing.
Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Uncheck all of the albums that you want to remove under the Sync Photos From heading
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
If you are using iTunes 11 and you can't see the sidebar go to View>Show Sidebar from the menu at the top.

  • IPad Air wifi sync a lot slower than iPhone 5s?

I just got my new iPhone 5s yesterday and found out that its wifi syncing to itunes is a lot faster than the iPad Air I bought a few days ago. Actually iPad Air wifi syncing is so much slower than iPhone 5s, almost half speed, just as slow as wifi syncing with my iPhone 4, is this normal?
I've tested another iPad Air of my friend, and found out that his new iPad is as slow as mine. Anyone know WHY? Is there anything / settings we're missing?
I have the latest AirPort Extreme as wifi router.

It's not much help but here is another thread with similar problems.

  • ITunes cannot recognize iPhone/iPad via WiFi Sync following motherboard change

    Hi folks,
I'm having a problem with synchronising my iPhone (and iPad) to iTunes on Windows 7 Home Premium via WiFi sync.
This never used to be a problem - both devices would be identified by iTunes (occasionally this was sporadic, however a simple WiFi off/on would usually solve the problem).
I have recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU in my Windows 7 PC and after updating some drivers, etc. all of a sudden, I cannot connect to WiFi Sync anymore. I can still synchronise my devices via the cable - i.e. the devices are correctly identified by the PC, but for some reason post the motherboard change, as soon as I pull the plug out of the device, the device disappears from iTunes.
I can confirm that the "Synchronise this device via WiFi sync" tick boxes are checked, and the Machine Name is the same, so my iPhone is still looking for the same PC.
I'm wondering if because of the motherboard change, there is an internal signature that the iPhone/iPad looks for that is no longer the same.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes to no avail. I cannot seem to find any solution to this problem - no matter what I do, iTunes will simply not recognise my devices over WiFi anymore.
    Welcome any advice or thoughts.
    System details:

    - iPhone 4S
    - iPad 2
    - Windows 7 Home Premium
    Cheers,
    Mike.

    Folks,
I thought I should post a follow up - in case any Apple Support people scour these forums.
The problem seems to have resolved by itself, which is both a good and bad thing.
I made absolutely no changes last night, not even a system reboot, to launch iTunes today and the system miraculously discover both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2. I think this highlights a broader problem is that the WiFi sync capability is inconsistent and very difficult to troubleshoot. I have no idea why it has all of a sudden started working, especially when I have changed no wireless, networking, firewall or Anti Virus settings.
Anyway thank you to those who had a read, and I wish I could provide more insight on why it has started working all of a sudden, and importantly, what caused it to stop working.
Perhaps it is simply like two people - the new PC and its motherboard needed to 'get to know' the devices before it felt comfortable in allowing a connection .
I have no other more rational explanation!
    Cheers all,
    Mike.

  • IPad & iPhone wifi sync stopped working

It's been since I upgraded my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 to 5.0.1 that I cannot wifi sync my devices.
I have a 2006 White MacBook with OS X 10.6.8, both iDevices upgraded to 5.0.1, last itunes version. My router is a linksys WRT54GL with the latest original firmware. Wifi security is WPA2 personal, TKIP+AES. OSX firewall is set to off.  I am an IT engineer.
I have searched over net and looked for possible solutions here, so these are the procedures I tried:
restarting my mac, iDevices, and router
updating firmware on my linksys router to the latest available
turned off iphone while trying to see if itunes detects the ipad
renew the dhcp lease on the ipad, and macbook
set a static IP both for mac and ipad
disconnect permanently the ipad from the router's wifi, then reconnect to it typing the password
switch off both ipad and mac wifi.
Remote app IS indeed working to control iTunes
disable router's multicast filter: when I did this, my roommate, who has a win7 pc and an ipad2, was able to see its ipad in itunes, and he successfully synced
    disable router firewall
create a custom wifi network with my macbook and connect only the ipad to it
    changing wifi channel
set up port forwarding rules for TCP:123, 3689, UDP:123, 5353 to my mac static dhcp ip address
    using another network @ work
I'm running out of creativity... This problem must rely on apple side, since my roommate can sync wirelessly.
And since his ipad is working, there must be something wrong with itunes for mac, or in the way ipads interact with Macs.
The wifi sync DID work while on iOS 5.0.0, it all started after upgrading.
In any case I will not restore any of my devices, since it is not a problem caused by me.
Please Apple, fix this!  Let me know if you need any logs.
    Thanks,
    Riccardo

I looked into the Console to see what is going on.
This is what I found showing up when I set airplane mode off, and the ipad was set to sync wirelessly:

You should be able to accept this message, it will cause existing music, photos (not camera roll) and videos (also excluding those in camera roll) to be removed and replaced with those from this computer. All other user data on the iPad will be unaffected.

  • HT1296 How do I switch WiFi syncing on my iOS device from an old computer to a new computer?

While trying to move between an old computer a new computer I find that I cannot convince my iPad to WiFi sync to the new computer and no amount of power cycles seems to affect it.

You set up WiFi syncing for a new computer just like you did for the old computer.
If you still have the old computer, connect the iPad to it and unselect WiFi Syncing with it. Uncheck Sync this iPad over WiFi and click on Apply, then eject the iPad.
I assume the power cycles means turning on off the iPad and the computer and restart them. Instead of just restarting the iPad, reset it and reboot your computer again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
It might not hurt to reboot your router either. Unplug it for about 30 seconds - or is this part the the "power cycles" that you already tried?
It would really help if you explain what happens, what steps you have gone through, etc ....rather than just making a statement about what you can't do. If you tell is what you have gone through, it might be helpful.
Are you taking about all WiFi syncing or can you manually initiate the sync but it will not auto sync when plugged in etc, etc. .... Details ....

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Old Computer in IPhones Wifi Sync area

My iTunes has only one computer 'authorized' - it is my Windows 7 laptop.
My IPhone 5 still shows my old laptop (DOA 7 months ago & destroyed) along with my Windows 7 as a choice to WiFi sync to.
How can I remove that no longer existing computer from my phone's WiFi Sync area?
Seriously bothers me that it is there.as it no longer exists
    merci!

    Hi Templeton,
It's just because I'm  'anal' -  it's not physically damaging me that it is there .    I always want to know why and how.   I thought the phone may need a reset - and I know I'm not going to hit that button - have no idea what that will do to other aspects of my phone settings.   Fear of the unknown - and don't want a mess to tackle.
I appreciate your answer very much!

  • Can you use wifi sync with multiple libraries and multiple devices

    Hi all
Does anyone know if you can use wifi sync with 1 computer, 2 libraries and 2 devices?
I have my wife's iPhone synced to 1 library and mine to another library but on the same computer. Will wifi sync work this way or do you need iTunes to be open to the correct library for it to work? As I know you can't have 2 instances of itunes open on the same computer.
    Anyway thanks for any help

I have been looking more and more into this and it appears no.
You need to have iTunes running on the computer to enable it to wifi sync. You can use 2 devices on 1 library but if you don't have all the right options ticked you will then end up with each others stuff on each others device.
To enable wifi sync you need to have your iDevice connected to the same wifi network as your computer and iTunes open on that computer.
With my library open it detected my wife's phone and started to sync. Hasty push of cancel sync button lol.
There is a guide on here somewhere about multiple devices with 1 library which I can't find at the moment that tells you which options to tick so only your stuff stays on your device the the other half's on their device.
Its basically tick 'sync only ticked songs and videos' under summary of your device
Under apps take tick out of 'automatically sync new apps'
Then under edit->preferences click device and click prevent i's from syncing automatically
I think you should then be able to sync both devices to 1 library with mucking them up too much
Hopefully please correct me if I'm wrong
I have tried not doing the last step and asking it to open itunes automatically when phone is connected but this does not work with wifi sync
Have fun hopefully someone else can give us a better answer

  • TS1398 my ipad no longer connects to my wifi and says the password is incorrect when I know it is correct as it is working on my computer and other ipad

I was able to connect to wifi at both school and home on my ipad 5.  However, now I am not able to connect to the wifi at home as the ipad states I am putting in the wrong password.
However, I know the password is right since I used it for my computer and other ipad which are connected to the internet.
Can anyone please help?  I have already tried resetting the settings several times and the wifi settings will not let me forget this network.

If you reset all settings, that should "forget the network" for you. But when you say that you already tried resetting the settings, were you able to reset them? In other words, were all of the settings reset when you tried it?
