i want to use jdbc thin driver to connect to oracle 8i for linux intel.
my code is:
DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
String dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@dbserver:1521:iasdb";
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL,"scott","tiger");
but an error is reported as "the network adapter can not establish connection".
why?
i can connect to oracle using JDBC-ODBC bridge successfully.

Can you try with the Oracle ODBC driver, rather than the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle? Microsoft's driver still uses the old Oracle 7 OCI calls, which are no longer supported on an Oracle 9.2 client.

Exception with WLS 6.1.3 & Oracle 9.2 thin driver

I'm testing out an upgrade from the Oracle thin driver that ships with WLS
6.1
to the Oracle 9.2 thin driver. My database server is running Oracle 8.1.7.
The only configuration change I made was to put the 9.2 classes12.zip at the
beginning of ths classpath. The line of my code where the exception is
being
throw is the first attempt at performing a resultSet.getLong() call. Has
anyone
gotten this combination to work yet? Any ideas on the error? I'd really
like to test out the native LOB support in the new drivers.

The same test works well with an Oracle 9.0 !
I have already try with this differents drivers :
8.1.7, 9.0 and 9.2 and I always have the same problem.

I have a problem while connecting to Oracle database using JDBC Thin Driver, Basically I am trying to connect using OS Authentication. The following explains clearly what I am trying to do.

Based on your code, when you try to connect your username is null and the password is "/". You are not going to be able to get the OS password using Java.

Connecting to Oracle using JDBC

I am a new to Oracle. I am trying to connect to Oracle using JDBC
The URL with which I tried to connect was:
jdbc:oracle:oci8:@myServiceName,user='myLogin',password='myPassword'
I get an error (ORA-12154)
- TNS could not resolve service name
When I use the same userid, password and service and connect thru' SQL*Plus it goes thru'. Is there any parameter which I am missing. Can anyone throw some light on this. I am held up with this issue badly.

How can I see KSC5602 character set using JDBC thin driver

After I change character set from USASCII7 to KO16KSC5601, I
cannot see korean from the clients
using JDBC thin driver.
But, I can see korean clearly using sqlplus at serer, or
application using SQLNet.
I use Oracle Enterprise Server 8.0.4.1.0, jdbc thin driver
8.0.4.0.6 on Windows 98. I read that all bugs realated
to multibyte language are fixed in Oracle8. What can I do to
solve this problem?

The easiest thing to do is download it as an archive with your applet.
Otherwise, you have to have the files on every client machine.
For netscape, put the classes111.jar in the java classes folder typically:
c:\ProgramFiles\Netscape\Communicator\Program\java\classes.
I'd expect that IE would be setup in a similar way.

Memory Leak when TOMCAT connects to Oracle 10g RAC using JDBC Thin driver.

We had experienced Memory leak when a Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3) RAC node was evicted. TOMCAT app server is connecting to the Oracle 10g RAC database instances using JDBC 10.2.0.3 thin driver.
Anyone had similar experience?
Any ideas? Any bugs reported/fixed?

If you're doing XA, we absolutely do not support
driver-level load-balancing OR failover. Use neither.
For non-XA, you can use driver-level failover. For
non-XA, you could set load-balancing, but it won't
help because we get connections from the driver,
and keep them indefinitely, so the driver never gets
the chance to affect which connections the pool

I'm trying to debug in Visual Cafe (JDK 1.1.7) and have both the classes111.zip and the nls_charset11.zip in my CLASSPATH.

If you're using 8i 8.1.7.1 or 8i 8.1.7.0 thin JDBC drivers on NT, then you can get them to connect to 9i by applying the 8i 8.1.7.1 Patch available at:
http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/solsoft.html
You might have to register/login first.
Basically, it's just a case of replacing a class already in your classes111.zip or classes12.zip with the class in the patch.
Took me a while to find this, but it worked first time after patching. Hope this helps.

Unable to connect to oracle using type4 driver

     I was trying to connect to oracle Database using type 4 thin drivers on win98.
     I downloaded the driver from oracle site and also downloaded some more drivers
     from other sites.While connecting to data base I ran into problems I am working
     for about two days on this thing but couldn't succeed.
     I get the following message:
          Connection refused ...........
     The driver is succefully loaded but when it tries to connect using
     conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@server:1521:orcl","userid","password");
     it gives the above message.
     now I think that I am giving the host name incorrect I couldn't find
     any way in oracle to figure out the host name.
     I am giving
               "jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:orcl"
          I have also tried other options for host name like localhost etc.but it
     didn't resolve.I think that the listener for oracle is not listening at the port 1521.
     I tried telnet to check that but it failed to connect at this port.I tried to do this
     with mysql to connect at port 3306 using telnet it succeeded.
          Second thing is that I tried to create a service name in oracle using TCP/IP protocol
     giving the above mentioned host names at all the attempts it gave the error that it has performed
     an illegal operation .
          I think that there are some settings needed for oracle to listen at this port which
     I dont know or I am giving the host name wrong . I shall be extremely thankful if u help
     me to solve this problem.

It has been a long time since I tried to run Oracle on Win98 (or Win95) for that matter, but I don't believe that there is a listener in the traditional sense since you would be using Personal Oracle. Your first step should be to make sure you can login to Oracle using the standard client and SQLPLUS. You could then use TNSPING to see if the listener is listening (you will need to setup TNSNAMES.ORA properly but you can use the Net8 Assistant or whatever). Next I would suggest you try using the OCI client instead of the thin client.
If you can, it would be much better to install Oracle on an NT, Win2K, or Linux machine. Oracle on Win98 is not really the same thing.

Problem using JDBC Thin driver with Oracle 8i Personal Edition

Hi all, I have an issue I have been unable to figure out. In order to make my code as portable as possible I am using the JDBC thin driver to access my database. I have been able to connect to an instance of Oracle 8i on a Sun box by hardcoding the following string into getConnection() call:

Oracle 7 - JDBC Thin driver - connect - compatibility

When logging on to an Oracle server v.7.2.3.0.0 with JDBC-thin
driver (classes111.zip), I get the message:
ORA-01017 invalid username/ password; logon denied
even if the password, username and connection string is correct.
The connection worked OK until some work was performed on the
database and some changes with SQL*Net was done.
I thought the driver worked OK with all versions of SQL*Net
listeners?
The database can be connected to with SQL*Plus.

I have used the classes12.jar and ojdbc.jar which came with the download and nothing seems to work. A bit surprising when sqlplus works and not the application. I suspect there could be an issue with the driver class. I have been struggling to figure this out for days now...
Can anyone please share their thoughts if something similar was observed earlier please.

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.pathThe case is pretty clear. You want to use the OCI driver (your URL starts with "jdbc:oracle:oci:"), so the Java Virtual Machine is looking for libocijdbc10.so in the Java library path but cannot find it.
What is also clear is that the program does not use the CLASSPATH environment variable you set, because then it would never have found the Oracle Driver.
So it seems that your program is ignoring the environment you set (which would explain why it also ignores LD_LIBRARY_PATH which you set correctly).
You must have the environment variables set and exported in the shell that starts the "java" executable.
Also, check that there is no other ojdbc14.jar on this machine (use "find").
To help you debug your problem, let me explain how Sun Java sets Java library path on Linux:
- If you start java with "java -Djava.library.path=/some/dir:/other/dir ...", the Java library path is set to exactly that value.
- If you do not specify -Djava.library.path, the Java library path is taken from the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
- Directories listed in /etc/ld.so.conf have no influence on the Java library path (which gave me quite a headache in the beginning).
Do you really need the OCI Driver? If you can do with the Thin Driver (i.e., use an URL that starts with "jdbc:oracle:thin:") you don't need any shared libraries at all.

yes i changed the server name and i verified the location of the JDBC driver file(s) on my computer. any way i solved my problem.
you know there was a misunderstanding in what you mean by classpath, i thought that i have to change the classpath from control panel>system>advance>enviroment variable
and then select classpaht and edit it. i was doing this but this is didn't work.
then i don't know why i did that
i went to java program and select my project,right click on it and then select properties>java build path and then select "add external Jars" button and then i simply choose them and add them to my project. and finaly it worked.

Oracle 8 JDBC thin driver for tomcat

Hi all,
I have tomcat3.3 installed on HP UNIX with java version "HP-UX Java C.01.18.05"
I need to connect to an oracle 8 database using a Oracle JDBC thin driver. Where can I obtain this driver? How to install and configure it for the tomcat application?

If you go to the link which the last person posted, http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/content.html, there is no indication for HP-UX. The only OS it lists are NT and Solaris. Does anyone know if these versions will work on HP-UX?
