Connect Yamaha P-105 keyboard to ipad 2 garageband

I have a Yamaha P-105 piano keyboad. It's said to be an "iPad friendly" keyboard. I have the Camera Connection kit along with a AB USB cable. Everything fits, it's all plugged in correctly. But nothing happens. The sound of garageband still goes through the ipad and my piano still sounds like a piano. haha Do I need to get an Midi-USB cable? I don't see why the normal AB USB cable and the camera connection kit will not work. Thanks guys.

I want to hook my iPad to a Yamaha P-105 keyboard. Do I need a special adapter or app to do this?

At first I thought that this solved my problem, but alas it didn't. It does appear to add display area for your computer or to suplement it. But it is not a view screen for your Mini. I guess I will just have to live on with my monitor and use my Ipad and the "remote" app to run Itunes.
Once I have the system all set up, I could use the display but I don't know why I would. Thanks for your help.

  • How do you connect a USB MIDI keyboard to iPad Air?

    Hello,
I can't get my USB keyboards to connect to my iPad Air.  I used to use the camera connection kit with my 1st gen iPad and it worked perfectly.  Now when trying to connect using my camera connector plugged into a lightning to 30 pin adapter with the iPad Air I get no response when trying to use my keyboards with Garageband, etc.  This seems like a step backwards!!!
Can anyone advise on how to use a USB MIDI keyboard with the iPad Air?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Same problem here...
I just read on another forum that someone managed to connect a midi device using a simple converter.
I have a digital piano with the square type USB connector, bought an adapter to convert the iPad Air's ligtning USB cable's USB end to that square connector, plugged it in, GarageBand did not respond to the Midi input.
on a macbook pro it works ok, but would be nice to use the iPad now that I bought it...

  • Connecting an isound honeycomb keyboard to ipad

    Hey guys
Hoping for a little bit of help with an isound bluetooth keyboard. I have been trying every way known to man to get this to connect to my ipad with no luck whatsoever. It seemingy connects and then prompts me to enter the 4 digit pairing code listed on the screen.
I enter the code as displayed but it comes back with an error message saying the keyboard could not connect and to make sure its turned on and in range. Interestingly enough it connects to my ancient iphone 4 with not a single issue. Its a brand new 32 gig ipad running 6.1.3 as an OS. I scoured the internet and have yet to find a single person with connectivity problems with this keyboard.
    please help!!!

If its paired and in range of the iMac it will auto connect to it. You may need to unpair it form the Mac mini before pairing with the iPad, or make sure the Mac Mini is off or out of range when you initate the pairing with the iPad.

  • Connecting an Apple wireless keyboard to iPad mini

I have an Apple wireless keyboard which I use with my MacMini and have tried to get it to work on my new iPad Mini (it is love at first sight, that is me and the iPad mini) but with no sucess.  This maybe down to me but perhaps the keyboard can only work with one machine.  Any thoughts out there?

  • Connecting Yamaha Motif XS8 Keyboard Workstation To Logic

    Hey everyone!
I am in a really really reeaaally deep hole. I just dropped $3000 and got a Yamaha Motif XS8. I know how to use Logic Pro 7, and I know how to use the Motif, but I have no idea on how to connect them and make them talk to each other. I basically want to record using the sounds in the Motif in Logic (in midi format, not audio) so i can see the notes on the screen and not record as audio files. I have my Motif hooked up with a fire wire and midi cable. I don't know what to do to make this work. I know it can be done. I have called several places, everyone says it can be done, but no one knows how and now i am finally turning to my fellow apple forum members. Lots of people use logic pro here unlike yamaha support or other places so i hope someone has an answer.
This is a very common thing to do, but very complicated, and no one seems to have an answer! =[
I have called everyone possible... woke up at 8 in the morning and made calls all morning. Not one person knew, not even the apple logic pro support guy.
    anyways
Thank You Very Much!! ---in advance!

Ok, it's not hard, and the detail will vary depending on what you want to do exactly, but here goes:
There are two basic things - communication between the keyboard and Logic, and communication from Logic to the keyboard.
Connect up MIDI cables going both ways - keyboard MIDI OUT to computer MIDI IN, and computer MIDI OUT and keyboard MIDI IN.
Run Logic, and play the keyboard - watch Logic's transport, and you should see MIDI activity as you play. Cool - that part's done!
For the second part, I'm assuming you want to use the Motif multitimbrally, ie you want to be able to sequence multiple tracks of different sounds coming from the Motif with Logic.
Open your autoload song, and open the environment. Select New -> MultiInstrument, name it "Motif". Click on all the little channel boxes in the multi to enable all 16 channels. Set the multi's port to the MIDI port that your Motif is connected on.
Back on the Motif, make sure you turn MIDI Local mode OFF (this divorces the keyboard from the Motif's sound engine - because we will be playing it through Logic) and put it into multi mode if necessary.
Now, back in the arrange, click hold on a track and select Motif -> Motif 01 to assign the Motif channel 1 sub-instrument to an arrange. As you play the keyboard, you should hear the Motif playing. You can now sequence away with Logic.
If you regularly sequence like this, assign all the 16 Motif sub-instruments to tracks, and save this as your autoload, so it always comes up like this when you start a new song.
Any queries or problems, post back and I'll try to help.
Does that help clarify things for you?

  • Connecting an old piano keyboard to garageband

I have an "old" Yamaha (PSR-280) electric piano/keyboard which we bought
around (I would guess) 12 years ago.
On the back of my mac (near to all the USB sockets) there are two round plug holes,
one with a headphone symbol and the other with a symbol of a circle with two
triangular arrows pointing into this circle,
Out of all the sockets I would GUESS that this would be the only one that MAY serve
for the connection to the piano keyboard!??
The PIANO has two basic round plug holes
(larger but similar to those on the mac) that say: "phones/output" and the other "sustain"
Then there are two other round sockets that each have 5 pinholes that are termed
"MIDI - IN - OUT" (apologies for my lack of knowledge in naming the plug types)
At this stage I just wanted to know if its worth even trying to connect it to garageband on my mac
before trying to hunt down all the necessary cables and adaptors etc to make it possible
or whether I am wasting my time??
    Any advice very welcome
    Thank you
    Mark

Thanks for your response the other day...
I tried connecting with a cable but no sound comes through.
I went to "sound" in system preferences and the sound meter
seemed to indicate that something was going through because
the meter would jump whenever I hit a key on the piano. I also noticed
that the the meter would stay lit for a couple of seconds each time I hit
a note so even if the sound was coming through I suspect I would have
the same problems with notes getting "stuck" as the person with the post below

Thanks isteveus, I will keep persevering...

  • How to connect my electric keyboard with the GarageBand?

I have a CASIO electric keyboard, and I use a cable to connect it from its audio output to my macbook's audio input. And I wanna use GarageBand to create a song with that keyboard. But it doesn't work, only my voice is recorded. I don't wanna use a microphone to record cuz makes a lot noise. Can anybody teach me how to connect my keyboard to the GarageBand directly?

I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

How do you connect wireless keyboard to ipad?

Go to Settings -> General -> Bluetooth. Turn on the iPad Bluetooth service and then the keyboard. They should find each other.
BTW it's tricky to disconnect them. If you don't turn off the keyboard while it's paired, the iPad virtual keyboard won't work properly. Check the manual.
The green light on the keyboard doesn't stay on all the time the keyboard is on, just for a few seconds after each change of state.
The bluetooth keyboard - iPad combination is a very effective writing tool. The keyboard is very responsive.

I have an Adesso case with bluetooth keyboard for my iPad 2. No affect on performance. Keybord easier to use compared to on-screen keyboard. Plus it has more keys compared to on-screen keyboard.

  • Connecting Casio ctk 900 music keyboard to macbook, garageband 3 can I ?

Connecting Casio Ctk 900 music keyboard to macbook, garageband 3 can I ?
    Can I? Are they compatible???
I can connect to windows but this is not much help.
I hope someone with Casio Keyboard and Mac reads this!!
    Thanks

You can record the audio output of the keyboard - i.e. its own sounds - by plugging the output to the line in of your Mac (if it has one) or to a suitable audio-USB interface.
You can use the keyboard to drive GarageBand - using GB's own sounds - by plugging the MIDI output (a round socket with five smaller sockets within it in a semicircle) into a suitable MIDI-SUB interface.
This keyboard, according to the published specs, does not have a USB connection so the problems about compatibility do not arise. (Casio keyboards with a USB connection for MIDI notoriously don't work with Macs). The incompatibility mentioned in the previous post concerns the transfer of programs and MIDI files to the keyboard rather than using the keyboard as a MIDI source.
There are a number of suitable interfaces around, such as those made by Edirol.
