Connecting a 2nd apply studio display

Hey quick question. Im good with Macs but not so good with all the adapters and stuff. heres the problem. I have a powermac G5. dual 2ghz 2005 model. so i have a 15 inch apple studio display connected to the right hand monitor port in the back. i just bought a 17 inch studio display that i wanted to connect to the port on the left. but it seems the piece is too big to fit into the adapter. is this what i need to connect them http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B
thank you.
(both apple studio displays are the LCD versions. they are NOT aluminum. they are the plastic ones.)

  • Connecting 15" studio display LCD to MacPro

Do I need the DVI to ADC adapter to connect my "old" 15" Studio Display (LCD) to the MacPro?
Just bought the MacPro, upgrading from my G4 Powermac circa 2001. No one at the Apple Store mentioned needing an adapter even though I said I had an older display from 6 years ago. I am not happy to say the least. Partly went for the MacPro because I had this display, though small by current standards. Now another $100 I did not expect.
Any recommendations for displays...at a smaller price? Maybe I should have gone with an iMac....
    Thanks.

Unfortunately hardly anyone stops to think that some older Apple displays used the ADC adapter. I bet half of the staff don't even know what an ADC connector is. Anyway, yes you will need the ADC to DVI adapter unless you can already convert your video signal to VGA. In that case you can then use the includes VGA to DVI adapter that was included with your Mac Pro.

You can try Dell. They often have specials which results in very cheap displays.

My parents just bought iMacs (24" with 2.33GHz upgrades) and while they're very nice they can't come close to the performance of the Mac Pro, especially if you implement RAID 0. So while you might be a bit deflated over this just remember that you did buy a far better performing system.

  • Connecting a 2nd display

    HI,
I have a Mac Pro, circa Dec 07 (therefore no mini display port) and currently use a 23" cinema display. I want to attach another identical display and assume I can do this via the other (spare) DVI port at the back of the Mac?
However, my main monitor has the firewire and USB cables plugged into the tower which come cabled along with the DVI cable, but when connecting the 2nd display can I just connect the DVI cable into the Mac Pro and not bother with the firewire and USB cable which are bound with it?
Obviously I understand that using the firewire and USB cable from the first display increases my available ports (at the rear of the first display)... but do I really need to connect those with the 2nd display, because I'm running out of ports at the back of the Mac!
    Hope that makes sense...
    Thanks,
    Mark

One thing that's occured to me, somebody might know...
I calibrate my main monitor, so when the second display is either being mirrored, or just an extension of the desktop, I guess the existing calibration is sufficient as the main display calls the shots?
Or am I wrong, should both be calibrated as separate displays prior to using them together?
Thanks to anybody who can help...

  • Imac 27" Intel Core 7 CPU. Screen goes black and will not respond except with a push of power button. Second monitor connected via displayport continues to display fine. Apply Store did full hardware scan and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back

Imac 27" Intel Core7  CPU 16 Gig RAM. Screen goes black and will not respond except with a push of power button. Second monitor connected via displayport continues to display fine. Apply Store did full hardware diagnostic and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back to Mountain Lion but problem remains. Apple Store can do no more.

I did some more digging, it appears to be a backlight problem only. I can see the screen very dimly if I use a bright flashlight in a very dark room. It also seems to run ok if the brightness is turned down a LOT.
So I'm thinking this is a LED driver board issue or the display itself. I'll open it up and check the connection between the two and see if I can get any more clues. At least I can use it somewhat now by dimming the display significantly...

  • Apple Studio Display 15" LCD Flatscreen Monitor to connect to my MBP

hi have an older 15 inch studio display that has the ACD connection any suggestion on how to get it to work with my macbook pro to do dual monitors? thanks!

In order to do this you need to use an adapter to go from DVI to ADC. This can be found here http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=187 2D402&nplm=M8661LL/B
Good luck hope that works out!

  • Connect MacBook with Studio Display Monitor (2000)

I am trying to connect my MacBook with an old Studio Display monitor (made in 2000) that has an ADC 30 Male cord. I have a Mini-DVI to DVI 24 Female Adapter that fits into my laptop. I can't seem to find a DVI 24 Male to ADC 30 Female adapter, which is what appears I need. Is there anything I can do to make this work? Thanks!

  • Can I connect an iBook G4 12" to a Studio display?

Wirelessly, only if the display supports AirPlay.  Or if the display is Displayport or HDMI, connect with an AppleTV.

  • My 11 year old Apple studio display died. what is best connection with new monitor

The lCD light finally quit after 12 years. So I bought a very cheap acer /led widescreenS200HQL 19 inch as a cheap quick replacement for my monitor on my  quicksilver G4 933. Question is it is connected to the second display port VGA... Is it worth buying a connector so it can be connected to the larger DVI port(where the apple studio display was connected?) will that make any difference??? Things seem fine but was curious as to the difference???

Many of the Studio displays were ADC. Are you sure that other port is really DVI and not ADC?
My 2004 MDD vid card has one DVI and one ADC connector. I have it connected to a Viewsonic display from about 2007 with both VGA and DVI ports. When I connect the DVI port directly to the DVI port on the G4, the native res looks good but it too small to read (old, tired eyes). If I change the desktop res to make things a little bigger, the image looks like carp--fuzzy and possibly some distortion.
If I use the DVI-to-VGA adapter on the computer and connect it to the monitor. the image is shape and proper at any support desktop res I select.
    You mileage may vary.

  • Connecting Studio Display 17' To iMac

hey, my mom had a old mac with the silver tower. And she had a studio Display 17" and she just recently got a cinema dispaly and gave the screen to me. I am wondering what adapters i need to connect the Studio Display 17" TO my iMac G5. Thanks.

    Hi
You need to use a DVI to ADC adapter. They're available from Apple or Dr. Bott. The ADC connector was introduced with the Gigabit Ethernet G4s and requires an extra power connector on the logic board just above the standard AGP slot. The Sawtooth models lack this, hence the power has to be supplied externally via an adapter. Unfortunately they're fairly expensive as the adapter includes the power supply.

I'm not sure whether the above link will time out, but you can search the German online Apple store for DVI ADC adapter.

  • Connecting a Studio Display without adaptor?

Hi, i was just wondering if it's possible to connect a studio display to an xServe without the use of an adaptor. i can't get in behind out xServe here in the office to see what ports are available but i somehow feel it doesn't connect directly with the displays.
The reason i need to connect a display is to use TimeMachine as it doesn't work through the VNC software we have here

    Hi
If it's an Intel XServe you will need the adapter it came with.

  • 17inch Studio Display - What Cable to connect to Mac Pro?

    Hi Folks:
I just got a Mac Pro with a 23" cinema display, and an ATI X-1900 card, but I also have a 17inch Studio Display that I was using with a G5. Which cable adapter do I need to connect the 17inch display to the Mac Pro as a second monitor?

I have the 17 inch studio display connected to my Mac Pro (X1900) via the ADC to DVI adaptor. It sits next to a 23in Cinema HD Display. If you do this be prepared for the rather shocking difference in display quality. I hardly ever use the 17in because I can't stand to look at it compared to the 23in. You probably are better off getting a newer cheaper monitor rather than spending $100 bucks on the adaptor.
