Connecting apple tv through stereo receiver

I just bought apple tv and wanted to know if it's possible to connect it through my HDMI stereo receiver instead of directly through my tv. I ask this because I don't want to have to take the tv off the wall and feed cables through the wall unless I have to. Thanks.

Assuming that your TV is connected to the HDMI output of your receiver, you just need to figure out how to route HMDI 2 to the HDMI Output. How to do this depends on the receiver. You should search for forums that are specific your model to get more detailed help.

  • Connecting apple tv through older receiver to older tv

I have an older (9 years) Yamaha a/v receiver and (same older) Pioneer Elite plasma tv. Neither has hdmi. I am attempting to connect to the receiver via optical cable for sound and RGB (component) connectors for video. I am going through the "D-TV" (digital tv) component hook-ups on the receiver. I get no picture.
I have tried apple's suggestion of changing the video mode ("menu" and "+" on the remote) to no effect.
The receiver and tv function fine in all other respects.
Is there something I am missing?
    All sugestions gladly accepted!

The Apple TV doesn't output in RGB, its component signals are YCbCr. However, I suspect that your TV is also expecting YCbCr so this isn't the likely problem (i.e. it's just a mistake in your terminology). In any case, if your plasma TV supports only RGB then the YCbCr signals won't work without an color space converter.

  • Connecting iTunes/Macmini to stereo receiver using cable

I was wondering if anyone had experience connecting their computer to stereo receiver using cable of medium length (30 - 40 feet). I have Airport Express, but want to circumvent the conversion of aiff files to Apple Lossless that seems to be hard-wired into Airtunes.
    macmini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Yes you can hook up your mini to your stereo using the combined optical digital audio output/headphone out (minijack). On my Powerbook, I have used both my headphone jack and an iMic to connect to my A/V receiver. Remember, with an analog signal, the longer and/or thinner the cable, the more degradation you will get, but only your ears can tell you if you can hear the difference caused by that degradation on your system.

Ok.  I've answered my own question.  For anyone else with difficultites with a receiver, please read.
    1. HDMI connection has sound, so despite the manual's dirction that you need an optical cable for sound, this is incorrect.
    2. When connecting an HDMI cable from Apple TV to a receiver, you often need to "assign" the input on the receiver.  On my Denon AVR-590, I need to o under the menu settings, then assign the input to Apple TV.
Example:  I have run the HDMI cable from Apple Tv to my receiver, HDMI input #2.  I then go the the menu option on the reciever and assin the HDMI #2 to being active.
That's all I needed.  Hope this may help someone out there!  danny

  • Connect apple tv to stereo without optical or hdmi connection

Is there any way to connect apple tv to old model stereo amp without optical or hdmi connection inputs? Right now can only have itunes through tv speakers. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

    Newer MBPs have HDMI ports.
What ATV generation do you have? What MBP do you have (year/model)? ATVs support Airplay, so using the ATV as an Airplay sink and MBP as Airplay client is still possible.
There are display port-ot-HDMI adapters as well.
Alley_Cat has covered iTunes DRM content, but you can still play non-DRM content via Airplay and HDMI/Component (depending on ATV model).
MBPs  usually have a combo analog/Digital Optical connection that can be hooked up to  a stereo for sound.

  • Connect Apple TV 2 to Receiver

    Hi
I have not bought Apple TV jet, but i'm thinking of doing it, but i do not know if i will be able to connect it to my sony receiver called: Sony STR-de495P
Here you see a photo of the receiver from behind:
So my question is, will I be able to connect Apple TV 2 to this, and how can I do it?
    Best Regards
    Emil

The ATV2 only has HDMI out for video.  There's an optical out for audio too, but I don't know much about it.
If you only have RCA-in, you're out of luck for direct use, or you'll need to spend some extra dosh on a converter.
In my case, my TV has HDMI-in and a headphone out, so I just put a mini-stereo-to-RCA cable in place and I'm happy.  YMMV depending on how "central" your receiver is to your setup.

  • Connecting Apple TV to stereo and tv in different rooms

I got apple tv so I could run my iTunes through my new Peachtree Audio amplifier. My stereo is downstairs and my tv is upstairs. Is it possible to connect apple tv to both my stereo AND my tv with out a physical (cable/cord) connection to both?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You'd want the Apple TV with the TV, so you would need an optical cable between the Apple TV and audio equipment.

  • Connect A305-S6905 to stereo receiver

    Hi everybody,
Does anyone know how I can connect my Toshiba A305-S6905 laptop to my stereo receiver (RCA type conncections)
so I can play Pandora internet radio on my stereo?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I'll just order the cheaper model from Monoprice. For only $2.23 it is worth it to see if I can get any better audio quality out of the AX.
The Apple iPod AV cable is working. I meant it is useless since none of the newer iPod/iPhones will work with it and since I have an iPhone I have little need to output photos or videos anymore since they look pretty good on the screen and now that I have the AX I don't plan to connect my Video iPod up to my stereo anymore...so they are just going to collect dust!

    Hi
Im trying to connect Apple TV to a DataProjector in a conference room, connect it to the net via a wireless public hotel network. Then take photos at predinner drinks so they appear in the conference room via photo stream with the ATV screen saver.
ATV is telling me its connected to the hotel public network with a strong signal strenght. But I cant login to my Icloud account saying its unavailable and try later. Same thing with itunes account. From this I'm assuming its connected but Im being blocked by the hotel as I need to enter a password. So where do I enter the password?
    Can anyone help here?

Scratch that, It wasnt connected through the hotel network because I tested connecting through personal hotspot on the iphone and everything came alive.

  • HT5437 connect apple tv to Yamaha receiver RX-A1010

Want to set up Apple TV to Yamaha Receiver RX-A1010 and to use URC Harmony MX980 IR remote.  No info available on Yamaha website or manual
    Anyone done this?
Had Home theater set up by professionals - was hoping we could to this part ourselves.

I just got an Av receiver this week and connected an ATV to it.  You connect from the ATV to one of the receivers HDMI inputs with an HDMI cable and then connect from the receiver's HDMI output to  TV HDMI input.  If your tv does not have HDMI ARC, also connect an optical digital cable between receiver and tv for sound.  Just be sure to remember what input you used on the receiver to connect your ATV to so you can select that input to play the ATV.

  • Connecting Apple TV Through My iMac

    Hi,
I would like to connect my Apple TV through my iMac rather than directly through my router.  Either wired, WIFI or using Bluetooth?

    Unfortunately not.

  • Connecting apple tv to a receiver via optical cable

I connected my apple TV via a digital optical cable to the yamaha receiver RX-V477,but I have not figure out how to hear the music that is coming from the apple tv. Can you help me with the set-up in the yamaha receiver. Thanks

    Hey mgrossi,
The Apple TV's optical digital-audio port, also known as as TOSLINK, carries both audio and video signal when used with the proper cable. See this article for reference -

  • HI,,,,, i HAVE USED THE SITE CALLED OUTPERSONALS FOR SOMETIME BUT CANNOT CONNECT ANYMORE EVEN THROUGH EMAILS RECEIVED FROM THE SITE ,,, ANYBODY THERE HAVE SUGGESTIONS PLEASE ,,, THANK YOU ,,,

    Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,
I'm on g+ chat [email protected]

  • Connect to a stereo receiver?

I feel stupid asking such a basic question, but I'd like to listen to the music on my ipod by connecting it to the stereo receiver I drive my home speakers with instead of using headphones. Is this as simple as finding an audio cable that plugs into the iPod headphones jack at one end, and plugging into an auxilary input or phono input on the receiver end? Seems as if this will have to be some kind of hybrid cable since the receiver has dual (R/L) jack inputs.

Yep, all you need is a cable with a 1/8" Stereo plug on one end (the headphone plug like on your ear buds) and the other side is a pair of RCA plugs. This is a fairly common type of cable that you can buy in many places. You could pay a lot and get a nice white shiny Apple one. Or just go to your local Radio Shack and pick up a generic one for much less.
