  • Connecting MIDI controller via USB

Does anyone know how to connect a Roland SH-201 to a MacBook Pro via USB to use as a midi controller in Logic Express 8. I've installed the SH-201 driver, however I am getting a warning saying it is not compatible with an Intel based Macbook.
Just some general guidance in connecting a keyboard via USB to work within Logic Express 8 would be good.
    Thanks.

Well, if the synth's USB driver is not compatible with your laptop's system, there is nothing you can do about it I'm afraid. There is always an option to get a portable USB to MIDI Interface (price would be around $20-50, I think) and connect your synth to Macbook Pro through it.

  • Is it possible to connect two Macs via USB ?

Is it possible to connect two Macs via USB just like Firewire back in the day via Target mode or is there something similar? I am asking this because about 2-3 years ago I would normally image Macs via Target Mode. I used to have a regular Macbook running 10.6 along with a customized-ready-to-go .dmg image saved on the Desktop. Whenever I needed to put that image into any Mac I would simply connect the two Macs via Firewire, I would then press "T" at startup which will get me in Target Mode, I would then see the disk appear in the desktop of the Mac I had the image. I would then copy that image to the T mode macbook using super duper. Can this still be done through USB with new models and if so will I also need to press T at startup ?

No, USB connection does not qualify for this, only firewire and thunderbolt, as I read (but cannot test, for the time being I have only one such mac around).
This is why the short series of alu MBs (2008) are not qualified for target mode either.
p.s. What ‘new models’ do you refer to?

  • Connecting 6720 Classic via USB crash PC USB devic...

When connecting 6720 Classic via USB cable to my Acer laptop all USB ports on laptop seize to work and Windows display a message that the USB device has malfunctioned. Eventually the PC is permanently stucked and only way to proceed is reset laptop on power button and prior to that remove the laptop charger to entirely power it off and let it reboot on battery. Harddisk controller is permanently indicating with a green light but harddisk is not spinning. When this happens the Nokia phone does not prompt for USB usage (connection type) and is also hanging in application execution for a while. I would like to be able to configure the phone not to charge via USB, but have not found a way to do that. I believe that the charging via USB is creating a low level hw driver and power surge problem in my laptop. Problem is not consistent but happens from time to time. When connecting the normal 230 VAC charger to Nokia device so the Nokia device is charging when connecting to laptop via USB the problem does not occur. In this situation the Nokia device will not try to charge from USB connection.
Any possibility to disable the charging over USB on the Nokia 6720 Classic device??

I had the same problem with my 6720 when I connected it to my HP laptop via USB to download maps. It crashed my computer making all USB ports unusable until I restarted the computer again. I think it happened after I downloaded the necessary software upgrade. I had to eventually use bluetooth to transfer maps data to my phone. It worked without any hitches. Can someone at Nokia fix this problem with the USB?

  • What is the difference between connecting a printer via USB or Ethernet ?

What is the difference between connecting a printer via USB or Ethernet ?

When a Printer with an Ethernet connector is connected via Ethernet, it becomes a peer device on your Network. It is available whenever it is on for all users on your Network.
When connected via USB, it relies on your computer to "Share" it onto the local Network. It is only available when the attached computer is on. It takes resources from that computer to facilitate printing for any User.

  • Wi-Fi won't work when mac restarted after connecting Samsung Galaxy s3 via USB

I've been having this problem for a few months now, and it's stopping me from syncing my Samsung Galaxy s3 (I changed from iPhone and expect responses telling me to go back, but that's not helpful right now).
1.) I have Wi-Fi connection working fine on my mac,
2.) Connect Galaxy s3 to sync it with Kies,  - WIFI working fine on mac still however notice Samsung modem connection appears in my network connections on mac.
3.) Remove Galaxy s3 and at some point in the next few days reboot my mac.
4.) Wifi is automatically switched off, when turned on, can't find any networks. Forcing me to go to network connections, make the wifi service in-active and then click apply, then remove the service all-together and click apply. Then reboot my mac and create a new wi-fi connection into my network connections to finally get wi-fi to work again. Wi-Fi automatically connects back to my wifi network.
I'm sick of doing this every time I connect my phone. Mountain Lion 10.8.2, MacBook (alluminium unibody) 8gb ram, 2.4 ghz core2Duo.
Any ideas how to prevent the samsung creating it's own modem in my network connections?
Anyone with similar set up experiencing the same problem?
    Thanks
    Matt

Try accessing the router through your favorite Web Browser and enabling Wi-Fi through there. The Wi-FI should be enabled by default on this router.
    Web Admin: http://192.168.1.1/
The default login should be one of the following:
    admin/password
    admin/password1
    admin/admin
    admin/admin1
    admin/verizon
    admin/verizon1
If the username and password is admin/password, the modem will ask you to change at least the password to something else. Once in, you should be able to check the Wi-Fi settings and network name. Finally, once you've saved the settings, take a backup of the modem's configuration file if possible, and then reboot the modem to ensure the settings stick.
As a note, I strongly suggest using WPA2-PSK AES Encryption as the only form of encryption. Mixed mode or WEP can cause issues, especially with Apple Devices, and presents a security risk to the network. Also as a note, make sure SSID Broadcasting is enabled for the ActionTec. Otherwise, you won't see the name by simply scanning for it, and will have to manually enter in the name of the network.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 - connect to pc via USB, can I print from android tablet as well?

    Hi,
I've just bought a HP Deskjet 2540 all in one printer.
I have set it up via USB connection to my windows 7 pc, and it is printing fine.
I also have an android tablet.  Can I also print from this whilst using the printer via USB on my pc.
Any help on if this is possible and what steps I need to do if it is would be appreciated (I have been reaeding the help section on the website but I am just getting more confused).
     Lesley

    Hi @Lesley54R,
You don’t need to have the printer listed with the two different connections unless you’ll be switching back and forth from being connected by USB cable and wireless.  You can delete the one you don't think you'll be using.
To print the web page, please use the browser found within the app. I’ve included the ePrint Mobile App FAQs document for your reference.
In addition I’ve also included the ePrint Product Specifications document. This document has the list of supported email programs, file types and print limitations.
    Hope this helps!

  • Job stops (HP DJ 3550 connected to AEX via USB)

    Hi everybody,
    Here is the setup:
    1- PB G4 15" w/ MacOS X 10.4.2 uptodate w/ Airport Extreme card installed
2- Airport Express base (firmware 6.2) setted using Airport Admin Utility 4.2:
    - Home router
    - WAN: ADSL modem connected using PPPoE
    - USB: HP DeskJet 3550 (recognized by system)
    - Network managed by DHCP & NAT
    - No Port Mapping, no Access Control, no WDS, no Music
3- HP DeskJet 3550 connected via USB to AEX
4- Printer added to PB using Printer Setup Utility V4.1 (157.2):
    - hp deskjet 3500, connected through Bonjour
    - Driver HP Inkjet 2.7.1
From whatsoever application I print, it starts the job in the printer queue then stops (msg Jobs stopped).
I included the console file for the experts...
I tried reset, driver, update... you name it, it still doesn't work.
It works using the USB and a Airport Extreme Base Station.
I know that this printer is not in the compatibility list, but it really works with my AEBS!!
Any help would be very appreciated as I am completly clueless...
    Thank you in advance... Pascal

Hi Chris, thank you for the update and the trick.
I have also some (good) news on my side.
I tried the same as you did (restarting/reseting the AEX several times) and, effectively, the printer worked... until it stopped again a few prints after.
So I went with the hard way (no, it is not throwing the AEX by the window).
I installed the HPIJS and declared the printer as a network component with an IP address (like if it has a JetDirect). Now the problem is definitly fixed.
    Here are the steps:
    (see also page http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1300.html)
go to page http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/ and download both softwares:
         - hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.ppc.dmg
         - espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg
    Install them.
    Go to Printer Setup Utility
    Add a new printer
    Select IP Printer
Select Protocol HP Jet Direct - Socket
Enter address: 10.0.1.2 (or the address of your AEX)
    Queue: leave blank
Name: HP DeskJet 3550 - HPIJS (or the name you want)
Location: Airport Express Base (or the location you want)
    Print using: HP
Select model: HP DeskJet 3550C HPIJS (or your model)
Set the printer as default if necessary

Its also popping in and out of the device manger screen like its keeps getting unplugged andplugged back in . Ive tried both the cd driver and downloadable one.

I never had any problem on my old cpompuer which was running Vista32 Home prem
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Hello JalenTigh, Welcome to the Palm Support Community.
Unfortunately, Palm Desktop software has never had a driver for any 64-bit operating system.  This has been true for XP64, Vista64, and now Windows 7 64bit.
If I could direct your attention to the Windows HotSync section of this forum you will find many large threads discussing your issue at the top of the section.
You will only be able to sync via a Wireless connection - on your Centro, this would be via BlueTooth.

  • Connecting G4 hardrive via USB

My G4 won't boot and I would like to try to get some files from the hard drive. Someone mentioned connecting the hard drive to another computer via USB but wasn't exactly sure if it could be done. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You may be able to boot your iBook G4 in Firewire target disk mode and connect it via FireWire to another Mac to recover the files. If that doesn't work, you would need to remove the hard drive from the iBook, place the drive in an external drive enclosure (or some type of USB/FireWire adapter), and then connect it to another Mac.

  • Connecting Two Monitors VIA USB

I was wondering if there are any setups for connecting two external DVI monitors VIA USB to my Macbook Pro late 2011.
    OS X Mavericks 10.9.5

For external displays you will have to use the Thunderbolt port ( with appropriate adapters) .
    Ciao.

  • Read/Write rights connecting NAS drive via USB

I made it. The AEBS is working with my external iomega hard drive, different users and an iTunes library with 130GB data. All files are shown correctly and I am having full access. Just one thing, which I can't handle actually: I connected the formatted harddrive to the AEBS, configured the users. I copied all files into the shared- and some into the user folder. When connecting the usb drive directly with the mac via usb, I don't have access to the folders (permission denied). Since I can't change the right when it's connected to the AEBS, how can I get access to my files with a direct connection? Just worried, in case that the AEBS makes problems, so that I can still access my files when connecting the hard drive directly to my mac.
    Thanks for advice!

I haven't dealt with this yet, but my guess is you might have to plug the drive back into the AEB and remove the Users and Passwords. Once you plug that drive into the AEB and setup security on it, that information, I would assume is used like File Vault. It's setup on the actual drive, not the AEB.
    Hope that helps,
    AL
